Christopher Hollings
Christopher D. Hollings, a lifelong Mobilian, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 21.
Survivors include his parents, Gloria L. Hollings and Elishey Watts III, both of Mobile; five sisters, Karen Nickole Hollings, Elisha Hollings, Elizabeth Hollings, Nadine Watts and Victoria Watts; a brother, Carlos G. Law; and his grandmothers, Ernestine Law and Daisy Watts, both of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services Friday at Reese Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Robert Poellinetz
Robert Poellinetz, who had worked many years as a longshoreman in Mobile, died Saturday at a local health care facility. He was 83.
Poellinetz, a Mobile resident, was a native of Livingston and had attended Sumter County Training School.
Survivors include his wife, Velma S. Poellinetz; and four daughters, Josephine P. Williams of Ohio, Vernita Robinson of Tennessee, Melvina McCarthy of Wisconsin, and Irene Westerfield of Alabama.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing also will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church, Pecan and Live Oak streets, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Casher Cemetery.

Jesse E. Gardner
MYRTLEWOOD - Jesse Eugene Gardner, a former beta engineer with James River Corp., died Tuesday at his home. He was 74.
Gardner, a native of Uniontown, was a member of Myrtlewood Baptist Church. He also was a member of Nanafalia Lodge F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, R.T. Gardner, and a son, Jesse David Gardner, both of Myrtlewood; a daughter, Peggy Joyce Scott of Linden; two sisters, Geneva Ousley and Mildred Lolley, both of Pasadena, Texas; a brother, Jeff Gardner of Port O Call, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden. Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Myrtlewood Cemetery.

Charlie B. Glover
LINDEN - Charlie Barrett Glover, a homemaker, died Wednesday at an area nursing facility. She was 87.
Mrs. Glover was a native of Wayne, Ala., and a resident of Linden. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Sweet Water.
Survivors include five daughters, Joan Strickland of Myrtlewood, Joyce Pritchett of Sweet Water, Sallie Jones of Dixons Mills, Olene Vice of Nanafalia and Pauline Vice of Toxey; two sons, Edgar B. Glover of Chunchula and David Glover of Sweet Water; three sisters, Sadie Parten of Madisonville, Texas, Ida Mae Pritchett of Sweet Water and Louise Vice of Linden; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden, where services are set for 4 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Sweet Water Cemetery.

Alce W. Coleman
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Alce W. Coleman, a native Mobilian and a resident of Tallahassee, died Jan. 25 in Tallahassee. He was 75.
Coleman, a carpenter, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roeger Wayne Coleman and Alfred Coleman, and his primary caregiver, Mattie Mobley, all of Tallahassee; and five grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Strong & Jones Funeral Home in Tallahassee. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery in Tallahassee.

Robert Peter Findlay
BIRMINGHAM - Robert Peter "Pete" Findlay, a resident of Birmingham, died Tuesday.
Findlay, 48, was a graduate of Marion Military Institute. He was an Episcopalian.
Survivors include a daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Findlay of Mobile; and his father, Robert E. Findlay of Homewood.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Birmingham. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Friday in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.

William C. Menendez
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Bishop William C. Menendez, founding pastor of the Wilson Avenue Church of God in Prichard, died Sunday at his home in Melbourne. He was 75.
Menendez was pastor at the Prichard church from 1969 to 1974. He moved to Florida, where he served as state overseer of the Church of God.
Menendez, a native of West Palm Beach, Fla., was educated at the Church of God Sunday School and Bible Training College in West Palm Beach and Philadelphia.
He was pastor at Freehold Church of God in New Jersey and was a former overseer for the denomination in New Jersey. He also had served as a missionary evangelist from the General Church of God of Cleveland, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Menendez of Melbourne; a daughter, Pat Johnson; two brothers; a sister; three stepdaughters; two stepsons; and 15 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Blue Heron Church of God in Riviera Beach, Fla. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Wabasso Church of God in Wabasso, Fla. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in West Palm Beach.
Arrangements are by Stevens Brothers Funeral Home in West Palm Beach.

Louis W. Raben Jr.
ELLIJAY, Ga. - Louis William Raben Jr., a native Mobilian and a resident of Ellijay, died Tuesday at the age of 72.
The Spring Hill College graduate retired from Sears Corp. after 37 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Parker Raben of Ellijay; his children, Jan Raben Rice of Jacksonville, Fla., Louis William Raben III, and Michael Parker Raben of Columbus, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Catholic Church in Ellijay, followed by graveside services in Ellijay City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Logan Funeral Home of Ellijay.
Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Catholic Church of Ellijay, 27 Church St., Ellijay, GA 30540.

Mr. Roy Lee Barnes, Sr.:
Age 66, of Calvert, Alabama, died January 29, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Ann Barnes; three sons - Roy Lee Barnes, Jr., Cedric L. Barnes, and Ronald G. Barnes; seven daughters - Sarah M. Witherspoon, Mary (Andrew) Ferrell, Brenda L. Hardy, Janet (Chris) Flott, Lydia (Mike) Jack son, Donna Barnes and Marisa Barnes; twenty-eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and an abundance of family members and friends. Visitation will be held at the Friendship Baptist Church of Calvert, Alabama, Friday, February 2, 2001, from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral hour with Rev. Victor Dubose, Pastor, officiating. 72. A native and life long resident of Mobile, AL died on Monday, January 29, 2001 at her residence. Mr. Robert Grant:
A retired Merchant Seaman, native and life long resident of Mobile, AL was born on November 7, 1920 and departed this life on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara ``Mama Clara'' Stevenson. He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Geneva Williams of Tuscaloosa, AL and Monica (Harry) Hardy of Columbus, SC; one brother, Sheadrick Stevenson; sister-in-law, Sandra Jean Stevenson and on step sister, Mary Louise White, all of Mobile, AL four nephews, Charles H. (Lula) Williams of Tuscaloosa, AL, Milton A . (Althea) Parker of Houston, TX, Sheadrick David (Carol) Stevenson of Stone Mountain, GA and Kenneth Bryant Stevenson, all of Mobile, AL; four nieces, Sandra (Cleveland) Leatherwood of Columbia, SC, Joyclen Parker of Houston, TX, Lynette Stevenson and Shawn Stevenson, both of Mobile, AL; four great nephews, two great nieces and a host of cousins and friends. Minnie Thomas Lawrence:
Age 86, died Sunday afternoon at The summit in Asheville. There she had received loving care for more than 7 years. She was a charter member of the Crossroads Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Following graduation from high school in Hallstead, PA, Mrs. Lawrence had attended the Philadelphia college of the Bible. Her life was dedicated to teaching the Bible to children of all ages while raising her own children in Bainbridge, NY. She moved to Georgia in 1971 to participate in the daily nurturing of two of her grandchildren until their college years and then realized her life-long goal of completing her own college education when she received a Bachelor of Science from Mobile College in Mobile, AL at the age of 74! She is survived by daughter, Micki L. Cabaniss, M.D.; Duane A Lawrence, M.D.; two sisters, Dewave Briggs and Lottie Thomas; and 4 grandchildren, Lt. John Souma, Michele Souma, Catherine Papenfuse and Duane M. Lawrence. She was p re ceded in death by her husband, Duane E. Lawrence and her son, Bergen Thomas Lawrence, a missionary to China. Funeral services will be at her former church, the First Baptist Church of Sidney, NY, 11 AM, 2-3-01 followed by a gathering of family and friends at the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Bettye C. Ludlam:

Osborne Aldridge Marrow, Sr:
Age 83. A native of New Bern, NC and resident of Selma, AL died Tuesday, January 30, 2001. Mr. Marrow was born on February 12, 1917. Later his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Marrow moved to Roper, N.C. He graduated from Louisburg College and then went to work for Wyerhauser Paper Co. in Plymouth, NC. It was there that he met and married Helen McCain Marrow. While in Plymouth, Mr. Marrow was president of the Veterans of Foreign War and was active in community and church. He served in the European Theater in World War II 8th and 9th Air Force. Mr. Marrow is listed in the Who's Who of the South East. From Plymouth, he and his family moved to Riegelwood, N.C. where he became manager of Riegel Paper Company. Here he was president of the Lions Club, and president of the rotary Club. He became chairman of the South Eastern Industrial Management Association. Mr. Marrow was instrumental in building a 9 hole golf course for the community of Riegelwood. It remains one of the finest golf courses in Columbus Co. and still holds the ``Ozzie'' Marrow golf tournament each October. From Riegel, Mr. Marrow and his family moved to Selma, Alabama in 1965 where he accepted the position of Hammermill's (now International Paper Riverdale Division's) first manager. Mr. Marrow was elected chairman of the Alabama Industrial Association, now the chamber of commerce in Birmingham. Mr. Marrow was active in Selma Community activities and First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Marrow was preceded in death by his wife, Helen McCain Marrow. He is survived by two sons, Osborne Aldridge Marrow, Jr. of Selma, AL and Marv in McCain (Beverly) Marrow of Excel, AL; five grandchildren, Lance McCain (Jennifer) Marrow of Atlanta, GA, Melissa Marrow of Alpharetta, GA, Robbie Renea Marrow of Tuscaloosa, AL, Ana Marrow of Selma and Alden Marrow of Selma, AL; two great grandchildren, Lance McCain Marrow, Jr. and McKenzie Grace Marrow, children of Lance Marrow. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Friday, February 2, 2001 at 1 p.m. with Dr. Stuart Wilson officiating. Mrs. Lucile Mills:
A native and long time resident of Mobile passed in Altadena, CA on Tuesday, January 23, 2001. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for more than 65 years where she served as a Deaconess. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Mills, daughter, Helen Mills and son, Clarence Mills. She is survived by four devoted children, a son, Albert (Laverne) Mills, North Highlands, CA, three daughters, Ms. Mary F. Mills, Jamaica, NY, Mrs. Barbara Mills Burks, Mobile, AL and Mrs. Patricia (Donald) Gause, Altadena, CA; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Davis, Hollis, NY and Mrs. Marguerite Brown, Bronx, NY; daughter-in-law, Thirley Mills, Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Willie Ann Mills, Selma, AL. A native and lifelong resident of Tensaw, Alabama born March 28, 1917 passed Thursday, January 25, 2001 at a local hospital. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church of Tensaw, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glo Ethel Porter and one son, Edward Porter. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, seven devoted children, James (Carolyn) Porter of Panama City, FL, Ezell (Ruby) Porter, Jr., Mary Porter Robinson and Carolyn Porter Robinson of Bay Minette, AL, Solomon (Hattie) Porter of Foley, AL, Freddie (Eunice) Porter of Jacksonville, FL and Michelle (Carl) Washington of Huntsville, AL; one sister, Doletha Smith of Daphne, AL; 30 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, two foster grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Ala Mae (Harville) Stewart:
Age 90, born in Rabun, AL and a resident of Mobile, AL died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Lynwood Nursing Home. She was a homemaker. She is survived by four daughters, Eva (Mike) Bailey, Mobile, AL. Syville Blackmon, Robertsdale, AL, Mildred (William) Hadley, Bay Minette, AL, Betty Blankenship, Bay Minette, AL; two sons, John B. (Nina) Stewart, Atmore, AL and Albert B. Stewart, Bay Minette, AL; one sister, Lucy Taylor, Rabun, AL; a special niece, Lillian Stewart, Rabun, AL; 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Stewart and a son, Marvin Stewart. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the New Providence Baptist Church with Rev. C. J. Hogan and Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Dean Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 31, 2001 from 6 p.m. until service time at the New Providence Baptist Church. Mrs. AzeLee Brill Rush:
A native of Bay Minette, AL and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL departed this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Nicholas Rush; and daughter, Carole Rush McLean; and two grandsons. She is survived by two daughters, Miriam R. (Kenneth) Joyner of Theodore, AL, and Gloria R. (Raymond) McMichael of Benion, UT; one sister, Ila Mae Andrews of Mobile, AL; twelve grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, February 2, 2001 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Helen Anita Young:
Age 80. A native Mobilian died January 30 of complications from advanced Alzheimers. Helen graduated from Murphy High and attended the University of Alabama. Helen worked for the L&N Railroad until her retirement. Helen was a dedicated member and past President of the Electra Simms U.D.C. She was a faithful Christian who had read the complete Bible. In her earlier years, Helen attended the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Mobile and later joined Ashland Place Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. J. Melvin Young of Pensacola, FL and her parents, Leslie Bullen and John Melvin Young, Sr., of Mobile, AL. Helen leaves a devoted niece from Pensacola, Robyn Young Linton and her husband, Alllen. She also leaves Jill Berry of Denver, Colorado, Samantha Young of Seminole, AL, Johnny and Lynda Young of Biloxi, MS; a sister-in-law, H.L. Burks of Pen sacola, FL. Our family wished to thank Dr. Martin Lester and the entire staff for his years of care. A thanks to our special friend, Charity Hunter and Audrey Moore for their support and love.
