Philip Crosby, Bing's son, 69
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. - Philip Crosby, son of legendary crooner Bing Crosby and an entertainer in his own right, has died of a heart attack. He was 69.
He was found dead Tuesday in his home by his family, coroner's officials said.
Bing Crosby had four sons from his marriage to former jazz singer and actress Dixie Lee: Gary, Lindsay and twins Dennis and Philip.
The four brothers - all of whom have died - had mixed degrees of success after entering show business as young men. In the late 1950s, they teamed up as the Crosby Boys, a nightclub act, and performed gigs in Las Vegas and elsewhere, including appearances on their father's TV programs.
Philip Crosby's show business career was brief. He had some recordings and small parts in films such as "Robin and the Seven Hoods" and "None but the Brave," both starring Frank Sinatra.
Crosby's appearances on stage also were sporadic. He told People magazine in 1983 that his last gig was at an Elks Club party in Burbank.
He had been married four times by then. His first three wives were Las Vegas showgirls.

Norman Heatley, scientist, 92
LONDON - Norman Heatley, a scientist whose pioneering work on penicillin production helped save countless lives, has died. He was 92.
Heatley died Jan. 5 at his home near Oxford in southern England, his family said. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, an antibiotic produced by mold, by accident in 1928. But it was Heatley and his Oxford University colleagues who produced enough for the first clinical tests on humans.
Many felt Heatley should have shared the Nobel Prize for medicine awarded in 1945 to Fleming and two colleagues.
On his retirement from Oxford in 1978, Heatley was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. In 1990, Oxford awarded him an honorary doctorate in medicine, the first in its 800-year-history.

Ray Stark, producer, 88
LOS ANGELES - Ray Stark, a publicist and actors' agent who became a Hollywood power broker and producer of such movies as "Funny Girl," "The Way We Were," "The Night of the Iguana" and "The Sunshine Boys," died at his home early Saturday after a long illness, according to longtime friend Warren Cowan. He was 88.
Stark was considered the last of the great independent producers, following the pattern of Samuel Goldwyn and David O. Selznick. Like them, he made films that were often based on best-selling books or hit plays, rich in production value and cast with major stars.
But unlike Goldwyn and Selznick, who thrived on publicity, Stark preferred to remain out of the limelight.
He gave only a handful of interviews during his career, and then only if he had an ax to grind. He issued only a few details in his official biography and was even sketchy about his age. He indicated his birth date was 1914, but gave no month or day.
A news release from Stark's family Saturday said he was born Oct. 3, 1915.
