A native of New York City, N.Y., he moved to Inverness from Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1977. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of Penno VFW Post number 4864. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

OCALA - James G. Stewart, 83, a retired National Football League recruiter and former owner of Stewart Steaks Restaurant in Miami, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 at Oakhurt Nursing Center.
A native of Harland County, Ky., he came here from Miami in 1980. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Ocala, Kiwanis Club and Elks Lodge and worked for the Salvation Army in Ocala. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Harry Brecheen, pitcher, 89
BETHANY, Okla. - Harry Brecheen, an All-Star pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals who won three games in their 1946 World Series victory over the Boston Red Sox, died Saturday in Bethany, Okla. He was 89.
Brecheen, who lived in Ada, Okla., had been in failing health and broke a hip last month, his son, Steven, said.
A slender left-handed screwballer, Brecheen (pronounced Bra-KEEN) finished off the Cardinals' victory in their pennant-playoff series against the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946 by striking out two batters with the bases loaded in the ninth inning of Game 2 as a reliever.
In the World Series against the Red Sox, he pitched complete games in Game 2, a 3-0 triumph, and in Game 6, a 4-1 victory. Then, on one day's rest, he pitched the final two innings in Game 7, earning the victory on Enos Slaughter's "mad dash" home from first base on a hit to short left-center field in the eighth inning.
He became the first left-hander to gain three victories in a single World Series; eight right-handers had done it before him.
Brecheen had been fatigued while warming up in the bullpen at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis in Game 7.
"You're going to rest all winter, who cares?" he told The Tulsa World in 2001. "Tired arm? You're playing for all the marbles, you don't just say, 'I'm tired, I can't pitch.' "

ANTHONY - Thelma Christine Ambrose, 86, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004.
Mrs. Ambrose was a native and a lifelong resident of Anthony. She was a member of Greater St. Joseph African Methodist Episcopal Church.

HIGHLAND, Ill. - Michael Jerome Cain, 83, a retired salesman, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004.
A native of Detroit, he was a former longtime resident of Ocala. Mr. Cain was a founding member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1945.

Mrs. Kennedy was a native of Bridgeport, Conn. Mrs. Kennedy was formerly a Rockette, a member of The Three Rays, and performed on the Milton Berle Show and the Jack Haley Show. She retired from show business after the birth of her first child.

A native of Chicago, he moved here from Downers Grove, Ill., in 1997. Mr. Miskelly was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 503 and attended Ascension Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army, 7th Infantry Division, during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Mr. O'Connor was a member of On Top of the World's Men's Golf Association, OTOW's Monday Divot Diggers, and Angela Santos Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4781. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army's 20th Armored Division.
