Jonathan Matthew Keen, 21, of North Tazewell, died June 17 at a Charlottesville hospital.
Born at Tazewell, he was the son of Dexter Keen of North Tazewell and Christine Shortt Taylor of Tazewell.
He had made his home in the Tazewell area his entire life.
Additional survivor: sister, Amanda Keen of Tazewell.
The funeral was conducted June 19 at 11 a.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel of Tazewell with Rev. Carlos Hess officiating.

Daniel "Danny" Lowe
Daniel "Danny" Matthew Lowe, 60, a resident of Bristol, VA, formerly of Richlands, died June 19 at his home.
He was the son of the late Ernest "Traveler" and Ina Hayes Lowe, both Tazewell County natives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Crinnie Steele, and one sister, Anna Ruth Lowe.
Survivors: son, Jonathan Lowe and wife, Lynn, of Cedar Bluff; daughter, Amy Austin and husband, Chris, of Norfolk; sisters, Omega Mitchell and husband, Ed, of Jewell Valley, Martha Lowe of Annandale, Margaret Cochran and husband, Wayne, of Bluefield, WV, Molly Swicegood and husband, Joey, of Fairfax; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted June 21 at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with Rev. Jimmy Cole officiating.
Interment
will follow at Knob Cemetery in Pea Patch.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service June 21.
Thelma Virginia Mabe
Thelma Virginia Mabe, 94, of Falls Mills, died June 13 in Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born in Falls Mills, she was a daughter of the late William Robert Sarver and Bertie Tabor Sarver Danley.
She was a member of the Falls Mills Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude R. Mabe; one son, Charles W. Mabe; two brothers, Paul Sarver and Aubrey Sarver; and one sister, Pearle Sarver. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: daughters, Evelyn Perdue and Zelma Lanier, both of Falls Mills; son, James C. Mabe and wife, Connie, of Moneta; daughter-in-law, Alberta Mabe of Falls Mills; grandchildren, Christie Szackacs of Bluefield, VA, Maria Tabor of East Bend, NC, Wayne Mabe of Rock, WV, Jennifer Collins of Pearisburg, Jeffrey Perdue of Cleveland, NC, Karen Mabe of Euclid, OH, Cynthia Ball of Moneta, Janie Davis of Waldorf, MD; and eight great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted June 17 at 2 p.m. at the Falls Mills Christian Church with Pastor Tom Reid and Frank Watkins officiating.
Burial followed in the Harry Cemetery.

Jackie David Miller
Jackie David Miller, 58, of Richlands, died June 13 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born Jan. 24, 1948 in Russell County, he was the son of the late Elbert P. and Gladys Plaster Miller.
He was a member of the Belfast United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Miller.
Survivors: his lifetime companion, Debbie Miller; brother, Eugene Miller and wife, Frances, of Cleveland; sisters, Peggy Crockett and husband, William, of Mission, TX, Doris Trent and husband, Arthur, of Pounding Mill, Loretta Hagy and husband, Vince (Mutt), of Swords Creek; four nephews; and two nieces.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. June 16 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Paul McNalley officiating.

Bobby G. Mitchem
Bobby G. Mitchem, 70, of Bluefield, VA, died June 15 at his home.
Born in Pageton, he was a son of the late Samuel Mitchem and Irene Griggs Mitchem.
He was retired from Aratex Uniform Co. in Bluefield, VA, after over 30 years of service and also was a former employee for Burketts Esso in Bluefield, VA. He was of the United Pentecostal faith and had served in the U.S. Air Force and was a former member of the Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Patton Mitchem; five brothers, Roy, Ran, Arnold, Orville and Danny Mitchem; and two sisters, Shirley Hartley and Kathleen Mitchem; and one granddaughter, Brandy Lynn Adkins.

Mary Helen Puckett
Mary Helen Puckett, 92, of Westwood Health Care Center, Bluefield, VA, and formerly from Keister St., Bluefield, VA, died June 10 at Westwood.
Born in Thompson Valley, she was a daughter of the late William Grubb and Rebecca Sanders Grubb.
She was an active member of the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA and was a former employee for Bluefield Casket Co.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill R. Puckett, and one son, Douglas R. Pucklett. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Lonnie Ray Roberts
Lonnie Ray Roberts, 44, of Danville, died June 14 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 13, 1962 at Jewell Ridge, he was the son of Betty Sparks Roberts of Jewell Ridge and the late William Sidney Roberts. He attended Trinity Church of God.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Dean Roberts.

Robert A. Rose, Sr.
Robert Augusta Rose, Sr., 94, of Tazewell, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died June 15 at Heritage Hall in Tazewell following a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late George Beverly and Eva Stevenson Rose, both Tazewell County natives.
He had been a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff area and was a retired factory worker. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Rose; two sisters, Rachel Dickenson and Mildred Rose; and four brothers, Bill, Ed, Andy and Pedro Rose.
Survivors: daughter, Mary Roark and husband, Harold, of Gloucester Point; son, Robert A. Rose, Jr. and wife, Georgia, of Wartrace, TN; sisters, Ocie R. Angles of Tazewell, Nell Farmer of Lebanon, Alta Novack; brother, Beverly J. (B.J.) Rose of Richlands; grandchildren, Wesley Roark, Melissa Foote, and Waylon Rose; and one great-grandchild.

Patrick "Bub" Smith
Patrick "Bub" Neal Smith, 33, of Rowe, died June 18 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, following an extended illness.
Born in Tazewell County, he was a son of Jerry Lee and Jackie Lee Rasnick Smith of Rowe.
He had been a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School Class of 1991. He was a truck driver for Claude V. Keen Trucking and was a member of Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was a loving father to his son, Cody Ryan, of Rowe, VA.
Additional survivors: brother, Jonathan Emmitt Smith of Rowe; special aunt and uncle, Jimmy and wife, Reba Carter; and several Aunts and Uncles and a Host of Friends.

Donnie Lee Webb
Donnie Lee Webb, 47, a resident of Richlands, died June 15 at his home.
He was the son of Harman Major and Thelma Marie Shortt Webb of Richlands.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of ’76 and had worked for Virginia Metal in Richlands. He was a member of Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Coaldan.

Danny Ray Blankenship, 48, of Rosedale, died June 22 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 7, 1958 in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Robert and Mable Meadows Blankenship.

Henry Clyde Blankenship, 78, of Powhatan, died June 23.
He was a member of Powhatan Masonic Lodge 295 AF & AM.

Christopher Shane Campbell, 19, of Raven, went to be with his Lord June 23 in a Bristol hospital with family and friends at his side.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of Ralph Campbell, Jr. of Raven and Rita Faye Campbell of North Tazewell.
He was preceded in death by great grandfather, Ora Campbell; great grandfather, Perry Whited; great grandparents, Ernest and Lula Keene; great grandfather, Leonard Lambert; and great grandmother, Cassie Lambert.

Rev. Joe Orvel Gross
Rev. Joe Orvel Gross, 68, of Whitewood, went to be with the Lord to receive his reward June 22 in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Bartley, WV, he was the son of the late Jacob Kent and Stella B. Estep Gross, both Bartley natives.
He had made his home in Whitewood most of his life and was the minister for the Rosa Cole Pentecostal Holiness Church at Jewell Valley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Adair, and one brother, Jim Gross.
Survivors: wife, Shirley Dorothy Gross; daughter, Donna Osborne and husband, Ricky, of Lebanon; sons, Michael Gross and wife, Pam, and Keith Gross and wife, Linda, all of Whitewood; sisters, Katherine Bowman of War, WV, Gladys Akers of Raven, Margaret Tolliver of Raysal, WV, Beatrice Fay Christian of Eckman, WV, Brenda Linkous of Beckley, WV; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James M. Harshbarger
James Michael Harshbarger, 50, of Raven, formerly of Moultrie, GA, went to be with the Lord June 20 following an accident at his home.
He was born in Moultrie and was the son of John Millard Perkins of Louisiana and Susie Jynell Perkins Harrison of Winston Salem, NC.
He was a loving husband and father, who was happiest when he was using his talents in woodworking to create a gift for someone. He was passionate about being a member of the Mountain Men Rendezvouser’s, who reenacted the battles of Pre- 1840. He had devotedly served his country in the U.S. Army and then as a policeman for the Moultrie Police Department in Moultrie. After retiring, he spent a lot of time outdoors caring for his land and his goats. He enjoyed serving the Lord and ministering to others about the love of God.

A military service was held at the church by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post # 9640 of Richlands.

Marie Tobelmann Hay
Marie Tobelmann Hay, 95, of Orlando, FL, died June 16 at the home of her daughter in Orlando.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA and was the daughter of the late John and Theressa Grimm Mackey, both Philadelphia natives.
In 1935 Fred and Marie Tobelmann came from Philadelphia to Bearwallow to do missionary work. They spent 48 years ministering in the community, establishing the Bearwallow Bible Church and spending years teaching Bible lessons in the schools throughout Tazewell County. After Fred’s death in 1983 Marie continued in the work until 1993 when she married James Hay from Lancaster County, PA. James died in 1996 and she returned to Bearwallow to live until 2000.At that time, she moved to Orlando to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Alice Fredricks and her husband, Gary, due to advanced Parkinson’s disease.She resided in Orlando until the time of her death.She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: daughter, Alice Fredricks and husband, Gary, of Orlando; sons, Jonathan Tobelmann and wife, Jean, of Fairfax, David Tobelmann and wife, Dorothy, of Bearwallow, Philip Tobelmann and wife, Mary, of Wytheville; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Rocky D. Lane
Rocky D. Lane, 47, of the Thompson Valley Community of Tazewell, formerly of Grundy, died June 22 in Buchanan County.
Born May 10, 1959 at Grundy, he was a son of the late Estil and Kathleen Mullins Lane.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors: wife, Deborah J. Lane; loving son, Chadrick Lane of Charlottesville; sisters, Diane Dotson and husband, Doug, and Stephanie Stiltner and husband, Johnny, all of Grundy; brothers, Curtis Lane and wife, Patricia, of Tazewell, Jerry Lane of Grundy; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert “Bob” Richardson
Robert “Bob” Coy Richardson, 67, of the Maple Gap section of Swords Creek, died June 26 in a Tazewell hospital.
Born Aug. 19, 1938 in Richlands, he was a son of Ida Altizer of Cedar Bluff and the late Robert Coy Reedy.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the United States Army.

Carrie Elizabeth Tiller
Carrie Elizabeth Wright Tiller, 83, of Vansant, died June 22 at her home following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Mahalia Kansas Stiltner Wright.
She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was of the Regular Baptist Faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was a wonderful homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Muncie Rell Tiller, 1976; three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors: daughters, Arlene Howard of Culpepper, Loraine Adkins of Dumfries, Mavis and husband, Roger Stacy, and Donna and husband, Tolbert Adkins, all of Vansant, Kay and husband, Jerry Brown, of Bedford, Anita and husband, Chester Donahue, of Moneta, Audrey and husband, Jennings Boyd of Bishop; sons, Dean and wife, Sandy Tiller, of Vansant, Gary Tiller of Lebanon, Alvery Tiller of Abingdon; 33 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

Noami Elizabeth Clifton
Noami Elizabeth Clifton, 80, of Clifton Fork, died July 2.
Born Jan. 30, 1926 in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Allie Osborne Burke.
She lived her whole life in the Clifton Fork Section of Buchanan County. She was a member of the Living Word Outreach Church at Pilgrim Knob. She devoted her whole life to her children and family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Clifton; one grandson, Johnny Mac Rogers; four brothers, Albert Burke, Lewis Burke, Lee Burke and Jessee Burke; and four sisters, Susie Terry, Gurtie Boyd, Eula Burke and Trula Burke.
Survivors: daughters, Shirley Sue Hylton and husband, Billy, of Raven, Darline Mabe and husband, Jim, of Bristol, VA, Linda Ann Ward and husband, Jerry, of Swords Creek; daughter-in-law Linda Clifton of Clifton Fork, Va.; sons, David Clifton and wife, Donna, and Cloyd Clifton and wife, Trudy, all of Richlands, Andy Clifton and wife, Cathy, of Swords Creek, Rick Clifton and wife, Lorie, of Pounding Mill, Joe Clifton and fiancée, Jennifer Haas, of Charlottesville; brother, Thurman Burke of Raven; sister, Madiline Thompson and husband, Virgil, of Greencastle, IN; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; special friends, Mary Jane Keen and Berlin Viers; nephew, Tommy Brown; several nieces and nephews; and little friend, Roxanne.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. July 6 at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain with Pastor James Ray and Rev. Walter Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 5 with a service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frankie Lee Coxton, Sr.
Frankie Lee Coxton, Sr., 41, of Tazewell, died June 28 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born Aug. 11, 1964 in Richlands, he was a son of Lester Adam Coxton and Rosie Johnson Coxton of Tazewell.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Robert Coxton, and his paternal grandmother, Elva Coxton.
Additional survivors: daughter, Sara Jo Coxton of Howell, MI; sons, Frankie Lee Coxton, Jr. of Blue Ridge, GA, Christopher Adam Coxton, Jason Adam Coxton, and Roby Lee Coxton, all of Tazewell; sisters, Melissa Sue Brown and Dolores Linda Brown, both of Tazewell; brother, Johnny Dean Coxton of Tazewell; grandchild, Shelby Lynn Coxton; maternal grandmother, Hazel Johnson of Honaker; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 1 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Michael Justice and the Rev. Dr. Janice Harris officiating.
Burial followed at the Coxton Family Cemetery in Thompson Valley.
Flora Mae Davis Dills
Flora Mae Davis Dills, 90, of Cedar Bluff, died July 3 in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Eva Mae Cox Davis, both Tazewell County natives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of the Cedar Bluff Community Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Dills, and three brothers, Oliver, Gratt, and Joe Ed Davis.
Survivors: sister, Mary Pearl Davis Nipper and husband, June, of Steelesburg; special nieces, Sylvia Davis Dye and husband, James, and Geraldine Davis, widow of the late Curtis Davis, all of Cedar Bluff; and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted July 5 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Richard Smith and Lawrence Davis officiating.
Interment
will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Shirley Alice Dye
Shirley Alice Dye, 65, a resident of Swords Creek, died June 30 at her home following a brief illness.
She had spent most of her life in the area and was the daughter of the late Visty and Pansy Dye Osborne.
She was a member of Calvary Lighthouse Ministries Church in Honaker and was very active with the Calvary Lighthouse Ladies Ministry. She was also a volunteer at the food pantry in Honaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior, Hubert, and Curtis Osborne; and one grandson, Ronnie Lee Hurt II.
Survivors: husband, Bobby Dean Dye; daughters, Bobbie Jane “Trixie” Hurt and Kimberly De Anna Dye and husband, Keith, all of Swords Creek, Brandi Marie Helton and husband, David, of Statesville, NC; sons, Larry Dean Dye and wife, Teresa, of Paintlick, Timothy Dwayne Dye of Swords Creek; sister, Beatrice Whited of Honaker; brothers, Worley Osborne and Hershel Osborne, both of Swords Creek, James Osborne of Lebanon; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. July 2 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with Rev. Grady McGlothlin and Rev. Mike Ryan officiating.
Interment
followed in the Dye Family Cemetery at Swords Creek.
