Randy Carl Trammell
Randy Carl Trammell, 42, of Doran, died Oct. 8 at his home in Doran.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Carl and Wilma Hagerman Trammell, both Buchanan County natives.
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, NC. He was a former coal miner and had worked as a pinner man and first responder. He was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith, and had spent most of his life in Buchanan County.
Survivors: wife, Deidre Trammell of Grundy; daughter, Bobbie Trammell of Grundy; son, James Foster of Grundy; sisters, Kimberly Trammell and Amanda Keen, both of Grundy; and grandchildren, Dylan Ty Lester, Brent Trammell and Kylee Trammell.
The funeral will be held Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at the North Springs Old Regular Baptist Church of Hurley. Preachers will be Josh Junior Justus, Danny Cooper Justus, Billy McCoy, James Stacey, Willis Conrad and other Elders of the Church.
Interment will follow at a family cemetery on Slate Creek.
Visitation will be held at the church Oct. 10 and 11 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Dollie Wagner
Virginia Dollie Patton Wagner, 86, of Bluefield, VA, departed this life Sept. 24 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born Jan. 16, 1920 at Bailey, she was the daughter of the late Adolphis and Mary Jane Patton.
She spent her entire life in the Bluefield, VA area. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Circle and the Adult Class. She loved to cook for family outings and loved to travel and fish whenever possible. She was a devoted wife, mother and a friend to all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Taft J. Wagner, two brothers and five sisters and a twin sister who died at birth.
Survivors: sons, Fredric Wagner and wife, Sheila, of Mechanicsville, William Wagner and wife, Joyce, of Troutville, Allen Wagner and wife, Judy, of Christiansburg, Lynn Wagner and wife, Barbara, of Midlothian, Larry Wagner and wife, Lynda, of Bluefield, VA; daughter, Lois Hodges and husband, Stanley, of Bluewell, WV; sister, Pauline Childress of Bluefield, VA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road with Rev. Ray Amos, Dr. Don Scott and Rev. Steve Aker officiating.
Burial followed in the Grandview Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA, was in charge of arrangements.

Tabatha L. Whited
Tabatha Leann Whited, 22, of Cedar Bluff, died Oct. 7 at her home as the result of a tragic house fire.
Born in Richlands, she was the daughter of Rocky and Leshia Mullins Hagerman of Bandy.
She was a Richlands High School Class of 2003 graduate.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Beth Joy Hagerman; maternal grandfather, Wesley Mullins; and one uncle, Alva Mullins.
Additional survivors: husband, Jason Whited; sisters, Angie Quesenberry and husband, Anthony, of Amonate, Melinda Lawson and husband, Derek, of Tazewell, Kimberly Hagerman of Bandy; mother-in-law, Susan Ball of Pounding Mill; father-in-law, Mark Whited of Cedar Bluff; special nieces, Autumn Quesenberry, Katlin Lawson, and Chelsey Lawson; maternal grandmother, Lillian Johnson of Richlands; paternal grandparents, Emory Hagerman and Emma Carroll, both of Defiance, OH; her two precious dogs, Gizmo and Kilo; and several aunts and uncles.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands with Pastor Herman Day and Pastor Ellis Hagerman officiating.
Interment followed in Tom Sparks Cemetery on Bradshaw Mountain near Jolo, WV.

Lee Wright
Lee Wright, 62, of North Tazewell, died Oct. 5 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born Nov. 13, 1943 at Marshall, he was a son of the late Garland and Gertrude Fewell Wright.
He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He was co-owner of B & W Auto in North Tazewell.
He was a beloved husband and father, who never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Garland Wright, Jr. and one infant sister.
Survivors: wife of 22 years, Debbie Wright; daughter, Pam Slater of Springville; step-son, Jr. McGuire of North Tazewell; brothers, Franklin Wright, Woodrow Wright, Henry Wright, James Wright and Bill Wright, all of Northern Virginia; sisters, Judy Jones of Charleston, WV, Frances Lillard, Patricia Maslock, and Gertrude Wright, all of Northern Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and his loving pets, Kiki and Blondie.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Wayne Mullins officiating.
Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell.

Ernest Albert Artis
Ernest Albert Artis, 86, of the Baptist Valley area of North Tazewell, died Oct. 11 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born Sept. 14, 1920 at Premier, WV, he was a son of the late Tom and Carlen Pennington Artis.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA Local #6025 at Bishop and Local #2322 at Amonate. He also had 15 years service with the Prince George County Schools and worked in the Senior Companion Program in Tazewell for 15 years. He attended the El Bethel Church in Baptist Valley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors: wife, Stella Hicks Artis; daughters, Pamela Hankins and husband, Keith, of St. Louis, IL, Charlotte Deskins and husband, Tom; grandsons, Nathan Hankins and Daniel Hankins; numerous nieces and nephews; very special neighbor, Curtis Neel and wife, Sue; and special friend, Josh Pennington.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Sammy Barnett officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

Rose May Artrip
Rose May Artrip, 63, of Lebanon, died Oct. 15 in a Lebanon nursing facility.
Born August 12, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Evelyn Warren. She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Artrip and one brother, Richard Warren.
Survivors include sons, Michael Artrip of Cleveland, Virginia and James Artrip and wife, Kim of Elkton, Maryland; granddaughter, Amanda Artrip of Elkton, Maryland; sister, Evelyn Wilson of Baltimore; brother, Nelson Warren of Baltimore.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Richard B. Smith officiating. Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Honaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy Carolyn Baxter
Nancy Carolyn McFall Baxter, 75, of Bristol, VA, died Oct. 14 at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, following an extended illness.
Born in Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Parker and Maude Looney McFall.
She was a graduate of Grundy High School and attended Roanoke College and Bluefield Business College. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a past member of the Grundy Women’s Club. She was a homemaker and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She worked alongside her husband, Dr. Robert F. Baxter for many years in his medical practice in Buchanan County. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Abingdon and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grundy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert F. Baxter on June 11, 1996; son, Robert F. Baxter, Jr. on Nov. 24, 1973, sisters, Billie Jo Lark and Bobbie Jean Smith; and one step-sister, Mildred Pierce.
Survivors: daughters, Mary Patricia and husband, Don Lynch, of Kingsport, TN, Frances Lee and husband, Rayburn Minton II, of Grundy, Nancy Jo and husband, William Testerman, of Kingsport, TN, Elizabeth Ann and husband, Rick Wright, of Abingdon; granddaughters, Aimee Baxter Cole of Cedar Bluff, JoBeth Baxter Wright of Abingdon, Emily Carolyn Testerman and Sarah Elizabeth Testerman, both of Kingsport, TN; and grandsons, Robert Rayburn Minton of Johnson City, TN, and Aaron Robert Wright of Abingdon.
Celebration of Life was held Oct. 17 at 12 noon at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grundy with Father Dan Bain and Father Paul Maier officiating.
Burial followed in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock.
Friends called at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. Oct. 16 with services by the Daughters of the American Revolution followed by The Rosary. She was moved to the Church Oct. 17 for the service.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Robert F. Baxter Health Care Scholarship, Southwest Virginia Community College, P.O. Box SVCC, Richlands, VA 24641.

Noah "Hammer" Boyd
Noah Alexander "Hammer" Boyd, 79, of Portsmouth, died Oct. 5.
A native of Russell County, he retired as a supervisor of the Paint Department at NORSHIPCO, was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Khedive Temple Desert Patrol for more than 20 years.
Survivors: wife of 59 years, Vella I. Boyd; daughter, Deborah Brenneman and son-in-law Terry; sons, Bobby Allen Boyd and James A. Boyd; grandson, Brian Allen Boyd and wife Amneris; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Grace; great-grandson, Cole Daniel; sister, Norma Jean Boyd; and brothers, John and Danny Boyd.
Services were private.
Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or American Cancer Society.

Arlie Junior Cardwell
Arlie Junior Cardwell, 62 of Richlands died Oct. 15 at a Richlands area hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Rock, West Virginia and was the son of the late Cyrus and Sally Mae Cardwell, both Princeton, West Virginia natives.Arlie worked as a coal miner for 37 years, 28 of that for Island Creek/Consol Coal Company, before retiring in 2005.Mr. Cardwell and his wife Darlene, took their marriage vows very seriously and were united in love for 39 ½ years.He was a loving husband and father and good provider for his family.
Mr. and Mrs. Cardwell were members of the Bible Way Church in Raven and loved their pastor and his wife, the Rev.Dannie Short and Mae Short and all their church family.
Mr. Cardwell was a man that loved God and his family with all his heart, and he and his wife walked the last mile together. He may be gone, but is not forgotten.He is absent from body, but present with the Lord.His wife Darlene knows when God calls her home they will be reunited and walk many more miles together.Their wish for their family is to see their children and grandchildren saved, so the circle will not be broken and they can all be one happy family again in Heaven. In Jesus name, they pray their wish fulfilled.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Basil Cardwell.
Survivors includehis loving wife, Darlene Cardwell of Richlands; daughter, Jarika Darlene Lawson of Tennessee; sons, Laymon Darrell Sasser, Jr.and fiancé Yolonda of Bossier City, Louisiana and Arlie Anthony Cardwell of Tazewell; sisters, Goldie Darlene Cardwell and Louise Cardwell, both of Illinois; brothers, Arthur Cardwell and wife Sally of Bluefield and Bernard Dale Cardwell of Richlands; grandchildren, Laymon Darrell Sasser III of Bossier City, Joseph Michael Sasser ofSouth Carolina, and Megan Miranda Lawson of Pineville, Kentucky.
Funeral services for Arlie J. Cardwell will be held Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Dannie Short officiating.

Nancy E. Costello
Nancy Estella Costello, 53, of Cedar Bluff, died Oct. 9 in a Johnson City, TN, hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Richlands, she was the daughter of Shirley "Jean" Shelton Stiltner of Cedar Bluff and the late Gratho Stiltner.
She had made her home in the Cedar Bluff area most of her life and was a retired customer service representative from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. She was a Richlands High School Class of 1971 graduate and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Costello, and one brother, Larry Stiltner.
Additional survivors: son, Larry "J.R." Costello of Cedar Bluff; sister, Pat Stiltner of Cedar Bluff; brother, Teddy Stiltner of Canton, PA; sister-in-law, Karen Stiltner of Silsbee, TX; and grandson, Ethan Chandler Costello.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating.
Interment followed at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.

Eva Wimmer Goodman
Eva Wimmer Goodman, 81, of Whitewood, died Oct. 14 at her home following a sudden illness.
She was born Aug. 15, 1925 in Buchanan County and was the daughter of the late Suel and Alta Perkins Wimmer.
She had been a lifelong resident of the Whitewood area and was a member of the Flatwoods Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peerless S. Goodman; two brothers; one sister; and one son, Roy Dean Wimmer.
Survivors: daughters, Nola Faye Herron and husband, Nicholas, of San Mateo, FL, Betty Smith and husband, Don, of Cedar Bluff; sons, Richard Goodman and wife, Sue, of Damascus, Ricky Goodman and wife, Melisa, of Whitewood; sisters, Hazel Andrews of Hudson, NC, Shirley Wimmer of Abingdon, Orphie McCoy of Lecanto, FL, June Horn of Whitewood, Bobbie Harper of Florahome, FL; brother, Bill Wimmer of Whitewood; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with Preacher Clarence Herron and Preacher Hobert Kennedy officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Christopher Harrison
Christopher Dewayne Harrison, 37, of Abingdon, died Oct. 10 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Jan. 23, 1969 in Richlands, he was a son of the late Isaac and Kathleen Barrett Harrison.
He was a graduate of Grundy High School and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his adoptive parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nevada Lee Harrison, and two brothers, Charles Randall Harrison and Maynard Douglas Harrison.
Survivors: wife, Kristi Grubb Harrison of Bristol, TN; daughters, Amber Harrison and Loryn Harrison, both of Bristol, TN; his mother, Loretta Hagy of Abingdon; his father, George Cresswell of Elkton, MD; brothers, Wayne David Harrison of Honaker, Isaac Edward Harrison of Abingdon, and Ted Andrew Harrison of Dublin; half-sister, Tonya Heath of Bristol, VA; and step-sisters, Linda Gail Matney of Vansant, Kathy Jordan of Kingsport, and Amy Knight of Myrtle Beach.
The funeral was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Mark Grubb officiating.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Fife Cemetery in Finney.

Sarah Marie Jackson
Sarah Marie Jackson, 22, of Oak Hill, WV, formerly of Tazewell, died Oct. 7, at Mt. Hope, WV.
Born Oct. 28, 1983 at Bluefield, WV, she was the daughter of Ginger Shrewsbury of Oak Hill and the late Charles Michael Jackson.
While residing in Tazewell, she had attended St. Theresa’s Catholic Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Charles Herman Jackson; paternal great grandfather, Bernie Jackson; maternal grandparents, John Bishop Hopson and Violet Hopson; and maternal great grandparents, Bill and Lake Hawkins.
Additional survivors: stepfather, Roger Shrewsbury of Oak Hill; brothers, Kenneth Hale and fiancée, Charity Pruitt, of North Carolina, Charles Jesse Jackson of Chatham; her paternal grandmother, Frances R. Jackson of Tazewell; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and loving family members and friends.
A Christian service was conducted at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Tazewell Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. with Father Gaudencio Pugat officiating.
Committal services and burial was held Oct. 12 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV.
Those attending the committal services were asked to meet at the church by 9:30 a.m., where a brief prayer and final song service was conducted.

Thomas R. Keen, Jr.
Thomas R. Keen, Jr., 64, of Cedar Bluff, died Oct. 12 at a Richlands hospital following a sudden illness.
Born in Paynesville, WV, he was the son of Bessie Stacy Keen of Baptist Valley and the late Thomas R. Keen, Sr.
He had made his home in the Baptist Valley area for the past 42 years and was a retired masonry carpenter for Jewell Smokeless and a former custodian and bus driver for the Tazewell County School System. He was an avid hunter and farmer who enjoyed life to the fullest. His world revolved around his grandchildren whom he loved more than life itself. He will be forever missed by his family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Edward Keen; grandmother, Rosie Keen; and one special uncle, Cecil Keen, who was like a brother to him.
Additional survivors: loving wife of 47 years, Elenore Christine Stilwell Keen; daughters, Patricia Cline of North Tazewell, Carrie Donithan and husband, Scott, of Tazewell; son, David Allen Keen; sisters, Patty Brown and husband, Jimmy, and Joyce Price and husband, Bob, all of Tazewell, Janice Keen of Pounding Mill, Peggy Osborne and husband, Harold, and Carol Keen, all of Baptist Valley; brothers, Lonnie "Pete" Keen and wife, Joyce, of Bland, Eddie "Popeye" Keen and wife, Moresa, of North Carolina, Earl Keen and wife, Mildred (Millie), of Baptist Valley; grandchildren, Andrew Cline, Christy Cline, Kimmy Cline, Gabriel Donithan, Chase Donithan, Carrie Davis and husband, Buzz, Kellie Rash and husband, Rob; great granddaughter, Melanie Ann Davis and a future great grandchild due in May; and many special nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Troy Lester, Rev. Doug Johnson, and Rev. James Green officiating.
Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill.

Harold Lee Mitchell
Harold Lee Mitchell, 64, of Council, died Oct. 12 in a Bristol, TN, hospital, following a brief battle with melanoma.
Born Feb. 25, 1942 in Drill, he was a son of Ruby Mitchell of Council and the late Thomas Mitchell.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1959 graduate of Council High School. He began working in factories after his high school graduation, but soon discovered the coal industry. During his employment he became a mine foreman, federal mine inspector and operated his own mines for many years. After ill health forced his retirement from the mines, he founded Jacket City, an internet business selling NASCAR jackets and hats.
A devout Christian, he was a member and deacon of Drill Chapel Church. He was a member of the board of directors of Council Fire Department and an Honorary Boy Scout Leader for Troop 711. He loved God, Drill Chapel Church, his family, the mountain cabin, playing and singing Gospel music, and spending time with "Dad’s Ol Boy," Dustin.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Krista Leigh Snead; two sisters, Barbara June Israel and Donna Sue Mitchell; and his mother-in-law, Iline Breeding.
Additional survivors: wife of 45 years, Joyce Breeding Mitchell; daughters, Tenita Mitchell of Garner, NC, Tracy Mitchell of Council; granddaughters, Casey Snead of Garner, Sarah Outen of Benson, NC, Emma Clevinger of Council; grandson, Dustin Clevinger of Council; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Outen and Macy Outen, both of Benson; special sons, Terry Snead and Dennis Clevinger, both of Honaker; brother, Dawyer Mitchell and wife, Pam, of Honaker; sisters, Philis Wilson and husband, Dan, of Lebanon, Mildred Baldwin and husband, Larry, and Debbie Barton and husband, Avery, all of Council; father-in-law, Charlie Breeding of Davenport; brothers-in-law, Larry Israel of Honaker, Harold Dean Breeding and Charlie Breeding, Jr., both of Davenport, Eddie and Edna Sue Breeding of Lebanon; sister-in-law, Phyllis Statzer of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Sullivan and Rev. Denver Barton officiating. Honorary clergy were Rev. Ancil Childress and Rev. Clyde Lambert.
Interment followed in the Baldwin Cemetery at Drill.

Sylvia Irene Harris Price
Sylvia Irene Harris Price, 60, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, died Oct. 15 at her home.
Born January 31, 1946 in Council, she was a daughter of the late Worley Harris and Vida Dye Harris. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Lynn Springs Free Will Baptist Church, where in the past, she had served as the pastor for several years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenford Price.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Monk of Swords Creek; granddaughter, Jerissa Monk of Swords Creek; brothers, Sherman Harris and wife, Debra of Richlands, Blake Harris and wife, Elizabeth and Curtis Harris and friend, Carolyn, all of Tazewell, James Ivan Harris and wife, Wanda, Curvin Harris and wife, Peggy, and Carter Harris, all of Swords Creek,; sisters, Hester Hess of Swords Creek, Madeline Boyd and her husband, Roy of Richlands, and Delores Honaker and husband, Scott of Raven; special friend, Sally Breedlove of Swords Creek, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker with Rev. Tommy Dye officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.

Donald J. Reedy
Donald Joseph Reedy, Sr., 72, of Richlands, died Oct. 11 at a Richlands hospital.
Born July 9, 1934 in Richlands, he was the son of the late Clyde and Ethel Cox Reedy.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Reedy and Carl Reedy, and one sister, Helen Costello.
Survivors: wife of 51 years, Kathleen Spencer Reedy; daughter, Diane Cole and husband, Rick, of Wardell; son, Donnie Reedy, Jr. of Richlands; sisters, Betty Harrison and Jean Pruitt, both of Richlands, Pauline Cox and husband, Jim, of Ft. Pierce, FL, Mary Evans and husband, Daniel, of Riverside, CA; brother, Jimmy Reedy and wife, Pauline, of Richlands; grandsons, Houston Cole and Josh Reedy; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 14 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Brandon Curtis and Rev. Doug Allen officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Veterans Honor Guard Association.

Martha Elizabeth Vencill
Martha Elizabeth Brown Vencill, 80, of Richlands, died Oct. 13 in a Richlands hospital following an illness of several weeks.
She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Cynthia Matilda Brewster Brown, both Tazewell County natives.
She had made her home in Richlands for the last 30 years and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Wayne Vencill; one son-in-law, Cecil Ray Melton; and one sister, Dolly Mae Brown.
Survivors: husband of 62 years, Homer M. Vencill; daughters, Cara Margarette Melton and Patsy Deloris Vencill, both of Richlands; sons, Robert Millard Vencill and wife, Alice, of Mechanicsville, Guy Thomas Vencill and wife, Debra, of Richlands; brother, James Henry Brown and wife, Arrene; nephew, Ricky Brown; grandchildren, Lisa K. Owens, Christopher R. Melton, Kim R. Traylor, Steven M. Melton, Karen S. Vencill, Gregory S. Melton, Jason A. Vencill, and Joseph W. Vencill; two unofficial grandchildren, Robert C. McAllister and Amanda L. Edwards; and ten great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands.
Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richlands Rescue Squad or a charity of choice.

Earl Whited
Earl Whited, 73, of Swords Creek, died Oct. 14 in a Richlands hospital.
Born Jan. 3, 1933 in Swords Creek, he was a son of the late Walter and Jenny Keen Whited.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner and was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carlos Whited, Ferrell Whited, and Herald Whited, and two sisters, Lydia Hess and Martha Lively.
Survivors: daughters, Cathy Ward and husband, Dusty, of Swords Creek, Missy Skeens and husband, L.G., of Honaker; sons, Ferrell Whited and wife, Nova, of Honaker, Jake Whited and wife, Sue, and Michael Whited and wife, Helen, all of Swords Creek, Marty Whited and friend, Emma Davis, of Lebanon; sisters, Leona Shope and Corene Perkins, both of Rosedale, Arlene Compton of Honaker, and Goldie Hess of Swords Creek; brothers, Mason Whited of Swords Creek, Eugene Whited of Columbus, OH; special friends and ex-wives, Beulah Whited and Peggy Whited; step-children, Terry Rowe, Dreama Rowe, Dave Rowe, and Debbie Rowe; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. David Perkins and Rev. Tommy Dye officiating.
Interment followed in the Whited Cemetery near the home.

Bureda A. Whitt
Bureda Arlena Whitt, 80, of Cedar Bluff, formerly of Cliffield, died Oct. 13, following a long illness.
Born at Amonate, she was the daughter of the late Arch and Zenia Asbury Whitt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Whitt; two brothers, Eugene Whitt and Douglas Whitt; and two sisters, Myrll Asbury and Iantha Brewster.
Survivors: brother Dorsey Whitt and wife, Ola, of Cliffield, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Pastor Linda Helton officiating.
Burial followed in the Asbury Family Cemetery at Cliffield.

Bernard F. Akers
Bernard F. Akers, 85, of Springville, died Oct. 7 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Born in Milton, WV, he was a son of the late Charles Crede Akers and Anna Wroten Akers.
He was a retired miner after over 30 years of service, having worked for Bishop Coal Co. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was of the Church of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivory Goldine Akers in 1985, and one brother, Giggs Wroten.
Survivors: sons, Harold Jack Akers and wife, Judy, of Springville, Charles B. Akers and wife, Robin, of Siler City, NC; daughters, Margaret A. Snell and husband, Gerald, of Tucson, AZ, Debbie A. Cole and Virginia A. Angles and husband, Ronald, all of Blythwood, SC, Ethel M. Ward and husband, Kenneth, of Bluefield, VA; sister-in-law, Elsie Wroten of St. Albans, WV; daughter, Sherry Taylor of Hurricane, WV; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA, with the Rev. Don Elswick and Chaplain Phil Parker officiating.
Burial followed in the Grandview Memory Gardens.
Graveside services were conducted by the Bluefield, VA, VFW Memorial Post 9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion #14.

Margie E. Bowman
Margie Elizabeth Bowman, 95, of Tazewell, died Oct. 12 at her home.
Born Nov. 20, 1907 in Thompson Valley, she was a daughter of the late Joseph St.Clair Davidson and Sallie Lawson Davidson.
She was of the Presbyterian faith and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Frank Bowman; one daughter, Grace Marie Bowman White; four sisters, Nora Jane Peery, Bessie Mae Ward, Ollie Louise Alley, and Mary Marie Puckett Hess; three brothers, Johnny Davidson, William "Bill" McKinley Davidson, and Charles T. Davidson; and one grandson, Stockton W. White, Jr.
Survivors: son, Earl Hubert Bowman of Burkes Garden; grandchildren, Mary Lou Turner and husband, Roger, Earl Herbert Bowman, David Allen Bowman, Jeffery Scott Bowman, and Carol Riddle; eleven great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and special caregivers, Joan Harman, Elizabeth Rhudy, Lillie Asbury, and Delphine Wilson.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Oct. 14 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Meredith Williams and Elder Farley Beavers officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
