Robert E. Kenton
Died: Saturday, July 27, 2002
Robert E. Kenton, 84, of Beverly Hills, Florida, and formerly of McGuffey, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Brentwood Health Center, Citrus County, Lecanto, Florida.
He was born June 23, 1918 in McGuffey to Daisy Gossard and Albert Kenton.
His grandparents were B. Kenton and Mary Kempsell (AKA Mollie Fox/Fuchs) and Willis Rowe Gossard and Martha Susan Cummins.
His great-grandparents were Arthur T. Kenton and Rebecca Irwin; Richard Kempsell; John Gossard and Elizabeth Newland; and Rody Cummins and Dilana Brentlinger.
Survivors include a son (Roger of Columbus) and a sister (Alberta Hopper of Connersville, Indiana).
He was preceded in death by his first wife (Vera Mae Scoles); and his second wife (Wilda Ratcliffe); two sons (Michael Ray and Donald Dean) and a sister (Violet).
He was awarded the Purple Heart for his services with the 5th Army Division during World War II.
He worked as a machinist for the steel foundry in Lima; farmed 50 acres on Hancock County Road 27 north of Ada; roofer for Musser Roofing; mechanic for Miller Ferguson, Cole Motors and Christy John Deere; and yard manager for Steinman Lumber of Jenera. He often spoke of working on his step-uncle Armentrout's ranch in Alberta, Canada, and weeding/topping onions on the Scioto Marsh (McGuffey area). He lived in McGuffey until 1957.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Bob Seymour officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Richland Township, Bluffton.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until time of service on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Dallas W. Hoffman
Died: Tuesday, July 23, 2002
Dallas W. Hoffman, 52, of Ada, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at his residence.
He was born October 28, 1949 in Lima, to Gene and Jane (Blosser) Hoffman, both of whom survive in Ada.
He had been married to Linda Moore; they are divorced.
Other survivors include two sons: Craig J. Hoffman of Elida and Dallas J. Hoffman of Ada; two daughters: Angie Cox of Elida and Aimee (Jay) Cotten of Lima; four sisters: Becky (Tom) Wade of Pottersville, NY, Jan (Zoony) Staniecki of Toronto, Canada, Bobbi (George) Fee of Dola, and GiGi (Randy) Fetter of Ada; and one granddaughter, Kaitlin Nicole Cox.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Vernon Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was retired from Proctor & Gamble Co. in Lima after 25 years, where he worked in the Shipping Office. He was presently working part-time for Liberty Township of Ada.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada. He was also a member of the Hardin County Veterans Affairs Board and the Ada American Legion Post #185. He was an Associate Member of the Ada VFW Post #9381. He was a past member of the Farmers and Merchants Picnic Board of Ada. He was in the U.S. Army and served in Italy during the Vietnam Era.
A Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. It was his request that there be no visitation or funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ada American Legion Post #185, 109 N. Main Street, Ada, Ohio 45810.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.

Dale Vaughn Ludwig
Died: Sunday, July 21, 2002
Dale Vaughn Ludwig, 83, of Parker, AZ, died on Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the Senior Lodge in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
He was born on January 16, 1919 in Dola, to Irvin Dale and Bertha Coyle (Eggerman) Ludwig.
On September 21, 1940, he married Betty A. McQuown in Tuscon, AZ.
Survivors include a daughter, Della Jean Hatch; a son, Rev. Charles Franklin Ludwig; a grandson, Chris I. Roper; a granddaughter, Samantha D. Meadows; a great-grandson, Brandon G. Roper; his long-time loving friend, Marie Cobb; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles William and Everett Franklin Ludwig.
Dale was a lifetime farmer, retiring after many years of farming in the Wellton Mohawk Valley, as well as the Parker C.R.I.T. Valley. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the VFW Post #7061 as well as a life member and PER of the Elks Lodge #1929, both in Parker.
Memorial services were held at the Grace Assembly of God Church in Parker, AZ, with his son, Rev. Charles Franklin Ludwig officiating.

Vincent R. Reichert
Died: Friday, July 19, 2002
Vincent R. Reichert, 76, of Ada, died Friday, July 19, 2002 at his residence.
He was born September 13, 1925 in Napoleon to Raymond and Marie (Zenz) Reichert.
He married Joan Shaw on Jan 7, 1952 and she survives in Ada.
Other survivors include two sons: Fred (Kristie) Reichert of Ada and Mark (Lori) Reichert of Dearborn, MI.; one daughter, Nancy Reichert of Hudson, FLA; one sister, Geraldine Weber of Napoleon and six grandchildren: Brendan Reichert, Jared Reichert, Joel Reichert, Erin Reichert, Rachelle Reichert and Kyle Reichert.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Joan Reichert and three sisters.
He was owner and operator of Reichert's Clothing and Shoe Store in Ada from 1952-1990. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada; a graduate of Napoleon High School; attended John Carroll University; a former member of the Ada Kiwanis Club and member of the Elks Lodge #157 of Kenton and a member of the American Legion Post #185 of Ada. He was in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Services were held Monday, July 22 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Dan Millisor officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ada Public Library and/or St. Rita's Hospice of Lima.

Asbury "A.B." Patrick
Died: Sunday, July 14, 2002
Asbury "A.B." Patrick, 79, of Alger, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
He was born October 10, 1922 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, to Jack and Mary (Prater) Patrick.
Mr. Patrick was first married to Sylvania Jones in 1947 and they were divorced. On August 15, 1969, he married Maxine Bailey and she survives in Alger.
Other survivors include three daughters: Mary Lou Stone-White of Kenton, Alice Campbell of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Bonnie Roberts of Springfield; a step-daughter, Millie (Ron) Pulfer of Alger; a step-son, John (Wilma) Bailey of Alger; a sister, Myrtle Brown of Jackson, Michigan; six grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two step-daughters: Norma Lee Combs and June Bailey; a step-great-grandson, Scott Combs; seven brothers; three sisters; one half sister and two half brothers.
Mr. Patrick was retired from Lima Armature Company as a Guard. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle on St. Rt. 235S of Alger.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Wilkie Shepherd and Rev. Dave Mowery officiating.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and until time of service on Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Erma J. Umphress
Died: Sunday, July 14, 2002
Erma J. Umphress, 84, of McGuffey, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at her residence in McGuffey.
She was born November 14, 1917 in Hardin County, to P. Clayborne and Bessie (Dunson) Chalfin.
On November 14, 1939, she married Nelson H. Umphress, who died January 15, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Steven (Sharon) Umphress of Mt. Blanchard; a daughter, Evelyn Umphress of McGuffey; a brother, Loren (Rosemary) Chalfin of Huron; and two grandchildren: Stephanie Umphress of Hillsdale, Mich., and Nathan Umphress of Mt. Blanchard.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Krock.
Mrs. Umphress was a retired Registered Nurse from Upper Scioto Valley, where she was the School Nurse. She was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ.
Services were held Wednesday, July 17 at McGuffey Church of Christ, McGuffey, with Pastors Scot Claey, Don Johnson, and Steven Umphress officiating.
Burial was in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, Roundhead.

Alta M. Blue
Died: Saturday, July 13, 2002
Alta M. Blue, 80, of Harrod, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at her residence in rural Harrod.
She was born October 16, 1921 in Santa Fe, Ohio, to Benjamin H. and Minerva (Musser) Parr.
On December 31, 1940 she married Roger M. Blue, who died July 11, 2001.
Survivors include two sons: Russel (Mary Kay) Blue of Alger and Keith (Bobbie Britt) Blue of Harrod; a granddaughter, Diane (Kevin) Shepherd of Kenton; a grandson, Alan R. Blue of Urbana; four great-grandsons: Joshua and Jarrod Blue, and Derrick and Philip Shepherd; a brother, Robert Parr of Marion; and four sisters: Annabel Smith of Lima, Juanita Bourland of Marion, Betty Nogle of Columbus, and Charlotte Brendahl of Cooksville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney F. Blue in 1963; and by five brothers: Merle, Charles, Orville, Bernard and Junior Parr.
Mrs. Blue attended the Alger First United Methodist Church. She was a beautician and owned a beauty shop, and later was a Correction Officer at the Marysville Women's Prison and Lima Correctional Institution. She was an active member of the family farm, and she was a school bus driver for Logan County and the Alger School District. She was a former member of the Three Arts Club of Alger and a former advisor for the 4-H Club of Logan County. She was a member of the Logan County Agrarians and a member of the Oliver Gang. She was a graduate of Lakeview High School.
Services were held Wednesday, July 17 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Barbara Dafler officiating.
Burial was in Zanesfield Cemetery, Zanesfield.

Rev. Rodney Lloyd Fry
Died: Saturday, July 13, 2002
Rev. Rodney Lloyd Fry, 39, of Pennsauken, NJ, and formerly of Alger, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Pennsauken, NJ.
He was born January 8, 1963 in Kenton, to Rev. Ronald L. and Dorothy J. (Lamb) Fry, both of whom survive in Alger.
He was never married.
Other survivors include two sisters: Deanna (Jack) Jordan of Alger and Donna (Tom) Yaussy of Alger; three nieces: Joslyn Sanders, Alicia Yaussy and Olivia Yaussy; a step-niece, Jackie Jordan Cowan; three nephews: Jacob Sanders, Lyle Yaussy and Christian Yaussy; and a step-nephew, Shane Jordan.
Rev. Fry was the Regional Director of Health Care Services at the Philadelphia Prison.
He was a graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School in 1981, and graduated from Lima Technical College in 1983 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. He graduated from the Atlanta School of Ministry in 1997.
He was a member of the National Nurses Association, and a member of the National Commission of Correction Health Care. He was a Deacon and Youth Pastor at the Baptist Worship Center in Philadelphia, Penn. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1985 from The Ohio State University. He had one year toward a law degree at Atlanta, Georgia.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Pastor Dave Schneer officiating.
Burial will be in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, Kenton.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 and until the time of service on Friday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger.

Dennis Allen Stewart
Died: Saturday, July 13, 2002
Dennis Allen Stewart, 53, of Greenfield, OH, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at Edgewood Manor, Greenfield.
He was born May 11, 1949 in Greenfield, to the late John Thomas and Ann (Ware) Stewart.
He was previously married to Beverly Carroll of Ada.
Survivors include a son, Brian Dalton of Urbana; two daughters: Beth Ann Stewart of Ada, and Danielle (Yousef Al-Akraf) Dalton of Ada; three grandchildren: Abraham Al-Akraf, Shaylin Dalton and Angelin Dalton; three sisters: Dara (Kevin) Conn, Freda Fent, and Kathy Jaunchi, all of Bainbridge, OH; two brothers: Scott (Dayna) Stewart and Richard Fent, both of Bainbridge, OH; his step-mother, Sharon Stewart of Bainbridge, OH; several nieces and nephews; special friends: Robert G. Anderson of Greenfield; Tony and Vicki Wolke, and Tom and Linda Vermillion, all of Ada.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas J. Stewart, and a sister, Salle Sue Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was a retired cafeteria worker.
He was a 1967 graduate of McClain High School, Greenfield, and a graduate of Southern State Community College. He also attended Ohio Northern University.
He was a member of the Greenfield First United Methodist Church. He had served as a volunteer fireman with the Ada Fire Department and had been caretaker of the Ada War Memorial Park.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Anderson-Strueve Funeral Home in Greenfield. Rev. John Gray will officiate at the service.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, OH.
There will be no calling hours.

John H. McDorman, Jr.
Died: Thursday, July 11, 2002
John H. McDorman, Jr., 61, of Lima, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
He was born September 26, 1940 in Lima, to John H. Sr. and Mary (Barber) McDorman. His father is deceased and his mother survives.
Other survivors include a son, Michael (Susan) McDorman of Bourbonnais, IL; three daughters: Michelle (Johnny) Eichert of Cridersville, Kathy (Joel) Wade of Wake Forest, NC, and Kelly (Douglas) Catlett of Delphos; 14 grandchildren; two brothers: David McDorman of Elida and Craig McDorman of St. Mary's; two sisters: Patricia Barrick of Toledo and Barbara Wedertz of Kenton; his companion, Sally Hawkins of Ada; and his former wife, Janice (Kraft) McDorman of Lima.
Mr. McDorman was a machine operator at Fruhoff/Holland Axle. He was a member of the VFW Post 9381 of Ada.
Services were held Monday, July 15 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, with Wanda Werking officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.

Matthew Alan Smith
Died: Wednesday, July 10, 2002
Matthew Alan Smith, 21, of Findlay, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at Nickel Plate Beach, Huron, Ohio.
He was born November 29, 1980 in Flushing Queens, New York, to Pastor Frank Paul Sr. and Belinda Sue (Wiford) Smith, both of whom survive in Kenton.
He was never married.
Other survivors include a paternal grandmother, Jane Regan of Decatur, Alabama; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Nancy Wiford of Sidney; two brothers: Frank P. Smith Jr. of Philadelphia, Penn. and Ryan M. P. Smith at home; and a sister, Jennifer E. Smith at home.
Matthew worked at Wal-Mart of Findlay on the Truck Crew.
He was a member of the Powell Memorial United Methodist Church of Findlay and a member of the Alger First United Methodist Church of Alger. He was a member of the OVI Civil War Reinactor Group and a member of the Salvation Army basketball team of Findlay. He was a graduate of Liberty Benton High School in 2000. He was a member of the School Drama Department and a member of the Liberty Benton School Choir. He was the District Three State Hurdle Champion in 2000.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, July 16 at Liberty Benton High School with Major Ed Davies, Findlay Salvation Army Corps Officer, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alger First United Methodist Church.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home of Alger.

Harry N. Winegardner
Died: Monday, July 8, 2002
Harry N. Winegardner, 90, of Belle Center, died Monday, July 8, 2002 at Springview Manor Nursing Home, Lima.
He was born March 21, 1912 in Allen County, to Bert and Nora (Miller) Winegardner.
On November 7, 1934, he married Wilda L. Gossard, and she passed away on August 12, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Larry Winegardner of Belle Center; two daughters: Carol (Steve) Flee of Oxford and Sherry (Robert) O'Keefe of Elida; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Ford; six brothers: Willis Winegardner, Merlin Williams, Eugene Winegardner, Tom Winegardner, Victor Winegardner and Frank Winegardner; and four sisters: Ruth Van Meter, Opal Stemen, Hazel Line and Frances Felkey.
Mr. Winegardner was a farmer. He was a graduate of Harrod High School. He was a member of the Roundhead United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee for the church. He was a former member of the Roundhead School Board.
Services will be held on Thursday, July 11 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. William Hanlon officiating.
Burial will be in Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead.
Friends may call from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until time of service on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roundhead United Methodist Church.
