Phyllis M. Conley
Died: Saturday, October 13, 2001
Phyllis M. Conley, 74, of McGuffey, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Ravenwood Care Center in Kenton.
She was born November 8, 1926 in Hardin County, to Orville and Mildred (Daniels) Cockerell, both of whom are deceased.
On April 30, 1946, she married Bill J. Conley, and he passed away on October 24, 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathie (Larry) Smith of Dola; four grandchildren: Bill Smith, Angie (Gary) Hall, Jackie Tackett and Christy (Michael) Curry; five great-grandchildren: Kendra and Colton Hall, Macy Tackett, Bryce and Kane Curry; and two brothers: Bud (Jane) Cockerell and Danny (Nancy) Cockerell, both of Ada.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Lee Tackett; two sisters: Berniece Morrison and Marian Balliett; and a brother, Delbert Tink Cockerell.
Mrs. Conley retired from Wilson Sporting Goods on June 1, 1993 where she worked as a Lacer and Packer for 36 years. She was also a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ.
Services were held Tuesday October 16 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. D. Ray Miller officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

L. E. "Skeet" McCloud
Died: Saturday, October 13, 2001
L. E. Skeet McCloud, 60, of Alger, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at his residence in Alger.
He was born November 5, 1941 in Essex, Ohio, to James Lewis and Etta (Ingersol) McCloud, both of whom are deceased.
Survivors include a son, Scott McCloud of Kenton; a daughter, Kathy A. (Paul) Dick of Ridgeway; five grandchildren: Amanda, Ashley, Michael and Kyle McCloud and Shayla Dick; and a brother, Maynard (Bunnie) McCloud of Richwood.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Marie Rebman.
Mr. McCloud was a farm laborer at Cook's Beef Farms in Alger.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 18 at 1 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Burial will be in Price Cemetery, Essex, Ohio.
Friends may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. to time of services at 1 p.m. at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger.

Byron D. "Barney" Boehm
Died: Friday, October 12, 2001
Byron D. Barney Boehm, 73, died on Friday, October 12, 2001 at his residence.
He was born November 22, 1927, in Washington Township, Hardin County, to the late Harvey and Anna (Price) Boehm.
On March 12, 1950, he married Mildred O. Wilson, who survives.
Other survivors include two sons: B. Lynn (Nadine) Boehm of Dunkirk and Thomas M. (Cindy) Boehm of rural Forest; four daughters: Anna M. (David) Wolford of Jenera, Laurie J. Henson of Ada, Mary L. (Harold) Vergiels of Harrod and Nancy C. (Patrick) Tobin of Dunkirk; two foster daughters: Susan (Eric) Doerzbacker of St. Paris and Vicky (Aaron) Weinandy of Carey; two stepbrothers: Richard Patterson of Nashville, TN and Gaylord Ault of Bradenton, FL; a sister, Naomi (Norman) Schaller of rural Dunkirk; 12 grandchildren; five foster grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: an infant and Robert L. Boehm; two sisters: Velma Boehm and Florine vonStein; and a grandchild.
Mr. Boehm was a farmer and had been a bus driver for Hardin Northern Schools. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Van Buren Township, Hancock County, where he was a member of the choir, Christian Fellowship, Men of the Church, and served on church council and held several offices. Mr. Boehm was a former member of the Good Samaritan Center Advisory Board, the Hardin Northern School Board, the former Dola Elevator and the Farm Bureau Council. He was an associate member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bradenton, Florida.
Services were held Tuesday, October 16 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, with Rev. Dr. John Stroup officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Crates Funeral Home, Arlington, was in charge of the interment.
Dorothy L. Young
Died: Wednesday, October 10, 2001
Dorothy L. Young, 99, of Ada, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
She was born December 20, 1901 in Ada, to Isaiah and Margaret (Rowles) Klingler, both of whom are deceased.
On May 21, 1927, she married Lloyd Young, who died April 25, 1977.
Survivors include two daughters: Susan (Roger) Rohrs of Wauseon and Shirley (Allan) Botkin of Springfield; eight grandchildren: Robert (Melanie) Edwards, Randy (Getta) Edwards, Robin (Angie) Edwards, Wes Rohrs, Jodi (Kris) Burkett, David (Tatjana) Rohrs, Lori (Rick) Cole and Michael Botkin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Margaret Young; a son, William Lloyd Young; two brothers: Paul and Keith Klingler; two sisters-in-law: Jessie and Annabelle Klingler.
Mrs. Young was a school teacher for 26 years in the Ada School system as a fourth grade elementary teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada and the Wesleyan Circle of the Church. She was a member of the former Order of Eastern Star Chapter #6 of Ada and the Ada Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the Hardin County Retired Teachers Association and of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Services were held Saturday, October 13 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home of Ada with Chaplain Bill Herr, Rev. Wayne Albertson and Pastor Thomas Dearth officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Christopher Mark Ladwig
Died: Tuesday, October 9, 2001
Christopher Mark Ladwig passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2001, at the University of Utah Hospital due to complications resulting from a recent double lung transplant and Cystic Fibrosis.
He was born July 31, 1970 in Findlay, to Ronald V. and Gale L. Ladwig. He lived with his family in Ada and Kenton until their move to Utah. He attended Weber State University and Mt. Hood College in Portland, Oregon, where he received his degree. He practiced his profession in Ogden, Nevada, and Washington, until two years ago when he became debilitated with Cystic Fibrosis. At that time, he moved back to Ogden where he lived until his death.
A memorial service was held on October 13th at First Presbyterian Church. A memorial plaque will be placed in Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park.

Ethel VanDyne
Died: Tuesday, October 9, 2001
Ethel VanDyne, 93, of Alger, died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton.
She was born on November 12, 1907 in Hardin County, to John and Allie (Peoples) Preston.
In 1929, she married Okey VanDyne, and he died in December of 1959.
Survivors include a son, Charles VanDyne of Alger.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Delmar Preston.
Mrs. VanDyne was a legal secretary for the Okey and Charles VanDyne Law Offices in Ada for over 50 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 185 of Ada, and the Hardin County Republican Ladies Federation.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 12 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada with Rev. Wayne Albertson officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada and prior to the services on Friday.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Kathleen A. English
Died: Saturday, October 5, 2002
Kathleen A. English, 82, of Ada, died Saturday, October 5, 2002 at State Route 701 and County Road 135, Kenton.
She was born December 15, 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Jeremiah and Mary (O'Conner) Sullivan.
On June 22, 1940, she married Marvin V. English, who passed away on May 3, 2000.
Survivors include three sons: George Jerry (Ann) English of Glendwood Springs, Colorado, Timothy L. English of Rocky River, Ohio, and Thomas K. (Caroline Burton) English of Jersey City, New Jersey; two daughters: Linda English of Lafayette, and Mary K. (Larry) Edwards of Dayton; a brother, William J. Sullivan of Watkins Glen, New York; a sister, Mary T. Sullivan-Crouch of Valois, New York; and eight grandchildren.
Mrs. English was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ada.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 10 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ada, with Father Arthur Wiles officiating.
There will be no visitation.

Shirley L. Newman
Died: Saturday, October 5, 2002
Shirley L. Newman, 78, of Dunkirk, died Saturday, October 5, 2002 as a result of an auto accident.
She was born March 17, 1924 in Kenton, to Phillip and Ruby (French) Hart.
She was married to Lloyd Newman and later divorced.
Survivors include a son, William C. Newman of Dola; two grandchildren: Mark A. Newman of Arlington and William C. Newman of Dublin; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marjorie Predmore of Castalia and Marie Frazier of Norwalk; and a brother, Harry Hart of Sandusky.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Hart.
Mrs. Newman was retired from the Kuss Corporation of Findlay. She was a member of the Kenton Eagles #2163 Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Post #3333 Ladies Auxiliary.
Services were held Wednesday, October 9 at Price Funeral Home, Dunkirk, with Rev. Scott Johnson officiating.
Burial was in Dunkirk Cemetery.

D. Lorraine Bryant
Died: Wednesday, October 2, 2002
D. Lorraine Bryant, 67, of Alger, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at State Route 235 and State Route 309, Ada.
She was born December 7, 1934 in Mohawk, Tennessee, to Victor Fay and Frances Pauline (Ricker) Sullivan.
On July 10, 1950 she married Clyde F. Bryant, who passed away on December 7, 1998.
Survivors include two sons: Vic (Debbie) Bryant of Lima and Gary (Joyce) Bryant of Alger; two daughters: Brenda (Mike) Collingsworth of Alger and Judy (Dan) Henkle of Roundhead; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Fay Sullivan.
Mrs. Bryant previously worked at Essex Wire in Kenton as an assembler. She also worked at Baldwin Manor Nursing Home, Kenton, and as a private care giver.
She attended the Alger Assembly of God Church in Alger.
Services were held Tuesday, October 8 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. John M. Ciardi officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Ruth L. McBride

Ruth L. McBride, 86, of Ada, died Saturday, September 28, 2002 at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.
She was born July 29, 1916 in Hardin County to Bert and Gwena (Stemen) McBride.
Survivors include three brothers: Robert (Anabel) McBride of Ada; Nelson (Margaret) McBride of Casa Grande, AZ; and Andrew (Doris) McBride of Ada; one brother-in-law John Pizor of Uniontown; two sisters: Gertrude Thompson of Rockford and Leota (Clarence) Barker of Westfield, IND; one sister-in-law Maxine McBride of Ada and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Pizor; one brother, Howard McBride and one infant sister Helen and one infant brother, Scotty.
She was a bookkeeper for Cole & Dome Insurance Company in Ada for 15 years. She also was a bookkeeper for 32 years for the accounting firm of Bolon, Hart and Turley, Columbus. She retired in July 1986.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada. She was also a former member of the Christian Business Women's Club of Columbus; Central Ohio YWCA Hiking Club and the YWCA Photography Club.
Services were held October 1 at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
Burial was in Allentown Cemetery, Lima.

Ellen Jane Reese Prater

Eileen Jane Reese Prater, 78, Bainbridge, GA, formerly of Lafayette, died Friday, September 27, 2002 in Bainbridge at her residence.
She was born August 13, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio to Paul DeWitt and Gladys (Frazier) Reese and they are both deceased.
She married Hershel Prater on May 20, 1971 and he survives in Bainbridge, GA.
Other survivors include three daughters: Rita (Jerry) Parker of Bainbridge, GA; Patricia (Robert) Karcher and Gail Carder, both of Lima; three brothers: William Lloyd Reese of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lawrence Reese and James Reese of Columbus; and one sister, Charlotte (Ralph) Yant of Lima; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Reeves of Bainbridge, GA; Elizabeth Stalnaker of St. Marys; Terrie Bradley of Minster; Bonnie Horetski of Spencerville; Becky Koeper of New Bremen; Laura Beebe of St. Marys; Susan Bradley of Wapakoneta; Deborah Bright of Lima; Shelly Warf of Lima; Bobby Karcher of Norfolk, VA; and Greg Carder of San Diego, CA.; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was a retired waitress from the Corner Cafe in Lima. She graduated from Marysville High school in Marysville, Ohio and was a member of the Faceville Baptist Church in Bainbridge, GA.
Services were held October 1 at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Ronald L. Spurgeon officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Denise L. Preston
Died: Thursday, September 26, 2002
Denise L. Preston, 33, Ada, died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born August 22, 1969 in Findlay to Harry J. Treen and Rose (Simon) Ratliff. Her mother survives in Ft. Seneca and her father in Lima.
On March 24, 2000 she married Dain L. Preston. He survives in Ada. She was formerly married to Ron Ring who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include three sons, Kinsey Ring, Jackson Preston, and Keaton Preston, all at home; one step-son, Hunter Preston, at home; one daughter, Samantha Ring, at home; three brothers, Troy J. (Jetone) Treen of Sandusky; Tod J. (Michelle) Treen of Ft. Seneca; and Adam Manley of Ada; and one sister, Natalie Price of Cincinnati.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jack J. Ratliff in 2001 and her grandmother, Ann Simon.
She worked at KMart of Lima for three years as a sporting goods manager. She was a graduate of Ada High School in 1987. She had recently worked for Springborn Medical Laboratory in Spencerville as a lab assistant.
Services were held September 30 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. Paul Finney officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
