Ruth Elizabeth Kay
Died: Wednesday, July 31, 2002
Ruth Elizabeth Kay, 94, of St. Mary's and formerly of Ada, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Otterbein of St. Mary's.
She was born October 8, 1907 in Elyria, to Frank P. and Anne (Henson) Blakeslee.
On January 18, 1927 she married George G. Kay, and he died on December 1, 1975.
Survivors include two daughters: Ruth (Charles Tom) Cassell of Ada, and Mary Lou (James) Nay of Zelienople, Penn.; a sister, Anna Mae Fisher of Norwalk, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Thomas Cassell, Denise Walsh, Mark Nay, Marilee Beebe, Laura Yarzebinski, James Nay, Beth Howard, and Amy Fixis; 21 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Frank, Howard, Harold and Russell Blakeslee; and a sister, Harriett Shoulter.
Mrs. Kay was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 60 years and had been active in the United Methodist Women.
Services were held on Saturday, August 3 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Pat Searfoss officiating.
A memorial service was held for family in Norwalk, Ohio, on Wednesday, August 7.
Burial was in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio, at the discretion of the family.

Orville Prater
Died: Wednesday, July 31, 2002
Orville Prater, 73, of Middlepoint, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at VanWert County Hospital.
He was born January 29, 1929 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, to Newte and Essie (Holbrook) Prater.
On October 10, 1952 he married Ruth Thatcher, who survives in Middlepoint.
Other survivors include three brothers: Luther Prater of California, Hershel (Eileen) Prater of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Don (Helen) Prater of Cleveland, Georgia.
Mr. Prater was in charge of Ward 21 at Lima State Hospital. He was a member of the Auglaize United Baptist Church, Maysville.
Services were held Sunday, August 4 at the Auglaize United Baptist Church, Maysville, with Rev. Russell Manns and Rev. Willy Collins officiating. Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Elizabeth Prine Ross
Died: Tuesday, July 30, 2002
Elizabeth Prine Ross, 74, of Harrod, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born September 5, 1927 in Hardin County, to Louis Poe and Hazel (Ford) Patrick.
She married Richard Prine on April 23, 1949 and he died on October 27, 1975. She then married Rodney Ross on April 3, 1981 and he died on March 7, 1992.
Survivors include two sons: Stephen (Sherry) Prine of Ostrander, Ohio, and Thomas (Jackie) Prine of Harrod; four grandchildren: Staci Prine of Sidney, Scott Prine of Delaware, Ohio, Ric (Christina) Prine of Kenton, and Jayna (Jason) Fry of Harrod; two great-grandchildren: Abbey Fry of Harrod, and Lindsay Fry of Harrod; eight step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Prine.
Mrs. Ross worked for the West Ohio Gas Co.; was a store clerk for Adams Market in Alger for 25 years; and later was a secretary for the Highway Oil Co.
She graduated from Alger High School and attended Ohio Northern University for two years. She was a member of the West Newton Methodist Church and she was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of the Alger Royal Neighbors. She was also a member and past president of the West Newton Garden Club for 25 years.
Services were held Friday, August 2 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating.
Burial was in Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead.

Robert E. Kenton
Died: Saturday, July 27, 2002
Robert E. Kenton, 84, of Beverly Hills, Florida, and formerly of McGuffey, died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Brentwood Health Center, Citrus County, Lecanto, Florida.
He was born June 23, 1918 in McGuffey to Daisy Gossard and Albert Kenton.
His grandparents were B. Kenton and Mary Kempsell (AKA Mollie Fox/Fuchs) and Willis Rowe Gossard and Martha Susan Cummins.
His great-grandparents were Arthur T. Kenton and Rebecca Irwin; Richard Kempsell; John Gossard and Elizabeth Newland; and Rody Cummins and Dilana Brentlinger.
Survivors include a son (Roger of Columbus) and a sister (Alberta Hopper of Connersville, Indiana).
He was preceded in death by his first wife (Vera Mae Scoles); and his second wife (Wilda Ratcliffe); two sons (Michael Ray and Donald Dean) and a sister (Violet).
He was awarded the Purple Heart for his services with the 5th Army Division during World War II.
He worked as a machinist for the steel foundry in Lima; farmed 50 acres on Hancock County Road 27 north of Ada; roofer for Musser Roofing; mechanic for Miller Ferguson, Cole Motors and Christy John Deere; and yard manager for Steinman Lumber of Jenera. He often spoke of working on his step-uncle Armentrout's ranch in Alberta, Canada, and weeding/topping onions on the Scioto Marsh (McGuffey area). He lived in McGuffey until 1957.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 2 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Bob Seymour officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Richland Township, Bluffton.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until time of service on Friday.

Dallas W. Hoffman
Died: Tuesday, July 23, 2002
Dallas W. Hoffman, 52, of Ada, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at his residence.
He was born October 28, 1949 in Lima, to Gene and Jane (Blosser) Hoffman, both of whom survive in Ada.
He had been married to Linda Moore; they are divorced.
Other survivors include two sons: Craig J. Hoffman of Elida and Dallas J. Hoffman of Ada; two daughters: Angie Cox of Elida and Aimee (Jay) Cotten of Lima; four sisters: Becky (Tom) Wade of Pottersville, NY, Jan (Zoony) Staniecki of Toronto, Canada, Bobbi (George) Fee of Dola, and GiGi (Randy) Fetter of Ada; and one granddaughter, Kaitlin Nicole Cox.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Vernon Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was retired from Proctor & Gamble Co. in Lima after 25 years, where he worked in the Shipping Office. He was presently working part-time for Liberty Township of Ada.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada. He was also a member of the Hardin County Veterans Affairs Board and the Ada American Legion Post #185. He was an Associate Member of the Ada VFW Post #9381. He was a past member of the Farmers and Merchants Picnic Board of Ada. He was in the U.S. Army and served in Italy during the Vietnam Era.
A Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. It was his request that there be no visitation or funeral service.

Dale Vaughn Ludwig
Died: Sunday, July 21, 2002
Dale Vaughn Ludwig, 83, of Parker, AZ, died on Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the Senior Lodge in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
He was born on January 16, 1919 in Dola, to Irvin Dale and Bertha Coyle (Eggerman) Ludwig.
On September 21, 1940, he married Betty A. McQuown in Tuscon, AZ.
Survivors include a daughter, Della Jean Hatch; a son, Rev. Charles Franklin Ludwig; a grandson, Chris I. Roper; a granddaughter, Samantha D. Meadows; a great-grandson, Brandon G. Roper; his long-time loving friend, Marie Cobb; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Charles William and Everett Franklin Ludwig.
Dale was a lifetime farmer, retiring after many years of farming in the Wellton Mohawk Valley, as well as the Parker C.R.I.T. Valley. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the VFW Post #7061 as well as a life member and PER of the Elks Lodge #1929, both in Parker.
Memorial services were held at the Grace Assembly of God Church in Parker, AZ, with his son, Rev. Charles Franklin Ludwig officiating.
Vincent R. Reichert
Died: Friday, July 19, 2002
Vincent R. Reichert, 76, of Ada, died Friday, July 19, 2002 at his residence.
He was born September 13, 1925 in Napoleon to Raymond and Marie (Zenz) Reichert.
He married Joan Shaw on Jan 7, 1952 and she survives in Ada.
Other survivors include two sons: Fred (Kristie) Reichert of Ada and Mark (Lori) Reichert of Dearborn, MI.; one daughter, Nancy Reichert of Hudson, FLA; one sister, Geraldine Weber of Napoleon and six grandchildren: Brendan Reichert, Jared Reichert, Joel Reichert, Erin Reichert, Rachelle Reichert and Kyle Reichert.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Joan Reichert and three sisters.
He was owner and operator of Reichert's Clothing and Shoe Store in Ada from 1952-1990. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada; a graduate of Napoleon High School; attended John Carroll University; a former member of the Ada Kiwanis Club and member of the Elks Lodge #157 of Kenton and a member of the American Legion Post #185 of Ada. He was in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Services were held Monday, July 22 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Dan Millisor officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Asbury "A.B." Patrick

Asbury "A.B." Patrick, 79, of Alger, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
He was born October 10, 1922 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, to Jack and Mary (Prater) Patrick.
Mr. Patrick was first married to Sylvania Jones in 1947 and they were divorced. On August 15, 1969, he married Maxine Bailey and she survives in Alger.
Other survivors include three daughters: Mary Lou Stone-White of Kenton, Alice Campbell of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Bonnie Roberts of Springfield; a step-daughter, Millie (Ron) Pulfer of Alger; a step-son, John (Wilma) Bailey of Alger; a sister, Myrtle Brown of Jackson, Michigan; six grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two step-daughters: Norma Lee Combs and June Bailey; a step-great-grandson, Scott Combs; seven brothers; three sisters; one half sister and two half brothers.
Mr. Patrick was retired from Lima Armature Company as a Guard. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle on St. Rt. 235S of Alger.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Wilkie Shepherd and Rev. Dave Mowery officiating.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and until time of service on Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.

Erma J. Umphress
Died: Sunday, July 14, 2002
Erma J. Umphress, 84, of McGuffey, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at her residence in McGuffey.
She was born November 14, 1917 in Hardin County, to P. Clayborne and Bessie (Dunson) Chalfin.
On November 14, 1939, she married Nelson H. Umphress, who died January 15, 1995.
Survivors include a son, Steven (Sharon) Umphress of Mt. Blanchard; a daughter, Evelyn Umphress of McGuffey; a brother, Loren (Rosemary) Chalfin of Huron; and two grandchildren: Stephanie Umphress of Hillsdale, Mich., and Nathan Umphress of Mt. Blanchard.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Krock.
Mrs. Umphress was a retired Registered Nurse from Upper Scioto Valley, where she was the School Nurse. She was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ.
Services were held Wednesday, July 17 at McGuffey Church of Christ, McGuffey, with Pastors Scot Claey, Don Johnson, and Steven Umphress officiating.
Burial was in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, Roundhead.

Alta M. Blue
Died: Saturday, July 13, 2002
Alta M. Blue, 80, of Harrod, died Saturday, July 13, 2002 at her residence in rural Harrod.
She was born October 16, 1921 in Santa Fe, Ohio, to Benjamin H. and Minerva (Musser) Parr.
On December 31, 1940 she married Roger M. Blue, who died July 11, 2001.
Survivors include two sons: Russel (Mary Kay) Blue of Alger and Keith (Bobbie Britt) Blue of Harrod; a granddaughter, Diane (Kevin) Shepherd of Kenton; a grandson, Alan R. Blue of Urbana; four great-grandsons: Joshua and Jarrod Blue, and Derrick and Philip Shepherd; a brother, Robert Parr of Marion; and four sisters: Annabel Smith of Lima, Juanita Bourland of Marion, Betty Nogle of Columbus, and Charlotte Brendahl of Cooksville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney F. Blue in 1963; and by five brothers: Merle, Charles, Orville, Bernard and Junior Parr.
Mrs. Blue attended the Alger First United Methodist Church. She was a beautician and owned a beauty shop, and later was a Correction Officer at the Marysville Women's Prison and Lima Correctional Institution. She was an active member of the family farm, and she was a school bus driver for Logan County and the Alger School District. She was a former member of the Three Arts Club of Alger and a former advisor for the 4-H Club of Logan County. She was a member of the Logan County Agrarians and a member of the Oliver Gang. She was a graduate of Lakeview High School.
Services were held Wednesday, July 17 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Barbara Dafler officiating.
Burial was in Zanesfield Cemetery, Zanesfield.
