M. Ruth Morrison
Died: Wednesday, January 9, 2002
M. Ruth Morrison, 82, of Dola, died Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at her residence in Dola.
She was born July 20, 1919 in rural Ada, Hancock County, to Dale and Ethel (Tressel) Tarr, both of whom are deceased.
She married William Ray Tallman of Ada, and he passed away on December 26, 1946. She then married Dale K. Morrison on March 13, 1948, and he passed away on June 17, 1983.
Survivors include two sons: Robert D. (Jenny) Morrison of Dola and Randy L. Morrison of Chehalis, Washington; two daughters: Teresa (Donald) Mathews of Manistique, Michigan and Nancy (Robert) Steele of Middletown, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Cleo Kahl.
Mrs. Morrison was a homemaker who was also an Avon representative for 50 years. She was a correspondent for The Kenton Times and The Ada Herald for many years. She graduated from Ada High School in 1937.
She was chairwoman for the Hardin County Republican Party for Washington Township. She was a life-long member of the Bethel Church of Christ of Ada. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who also enjoyed gardening, cooking and people. Her outgoing personality helped her in serving for many years as a newspaper correspondent and fifty years of selling Avon. In later years she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved her numerous visits to her son and grandchildren in Washington state.
Services were held on Saturday, January 12 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Chaplain Vernon LaSala officiating.
Burial was in Dola Cemetery, Dola.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Hospice Care of Kenton and/or Hardin County Cancer Society.

Thelma Holbrook Puterbaugh
Died: Friday, January 4, 2002
Thelma Holbrook Puterbaugh, 79, of Portland, Indiana, and formerly of Lima, died Friday, January 4, 2002 in the Jay County Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born July 9, 1922 in Portland, Indiana, to Marvel and Sarah (Ambrose) Ferris.
On September 30, 1950, she married Ballard Holbrook. He passed away on October 30, 1986. She married Dubois Puterbaugh on November 3, 1989, and he survives.
Other survivors include a step-sister, Jacqueline (George) Barber of Muncie, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Puterbaugh was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Portland, Ind., where she belonged to the Lutheran Church Women's Group and served as their treasurer. She had also been a member of the Portland Eagles Lodge. She had been a resident of Lima and worked for many years as a cashier at Krogers in Lima.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 6 in Portland, Ind., and then again on Monday, January 7 in Alger at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Holbrook and Pastor James Holbrook officiated.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church of Portland, Indiana.

Donald Carl VanAtta
Died: Wednesday, January 2, 2002
Donald Carl VanAtta, 67, of Mesa, Arizona, and formerly of Ada, passed away January 2, 2002 at Mesa Lutheran Heart Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1934 in Hardin County, to John and Grace VanAtta.
Don moved to Arizona in 1968 and had lived there ever since. Don served in the U.S. Armed Forces and later in the National Guard, 148th Infantry.
Survivors include a son, Rex VanAtta; three daughters: Melanie VanAtta, Melissa (Vernon) Flake and Carla (Phil) Epley; five step-children: Megan, Rob, Peggy, Mike and Skip, along with eight step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; and eight brothers and sisters: Willard (Mattie) VanAtta, Harold (Jean) VanAtta, Johnny VanAtta, Lloyd (Mary) VanAtta, Paul (Rosemary) VanAtta, Mildred (Bernie) Robinson, Marie Wolgamot and Lola (Jack) Mullins.
A private memorial is being held in Arizona. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were handled by Best Funeral Services of Phoenix.

Donald L. Tidd
Died: Saturday, December 29, 2001
Donald L. Tidd, 52, of Ada, died Saturday, December 29, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born January 19, 1949 in Lima, to Delno Eugene and Eunice (Farrar) Tidd, both of whom are deceased.
On January 8, 1972, he married Rachel Vanscoy, who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include two sons: Charles E. Tidd of Lima and Delno L. (Darcy) Tidd of Ada; a daughter, Nancy J. Tidd and significant other, Daryl Reichenbach of Ada; a brother, Larry (Phyllis) Tidd of Ada; two grandchildren, Ryley Jo Tidd and Bryce E. Tidd.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Tidd.
Mr. Tidd was a retired truck driver from Central Transport Company of Lima. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam on the USS H. J. Thomas DD833 in the 7th Fleet, San Diego, California. He was a member of the Ada Church of Christ (Disciples) and a graduate of Ada High School. He was a life member of the Ada VFW Post 9381; a member of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge # 1533; a member of the Eagles Nest #3619 of Indian Lake; and a former member of the Liberty Conservation Club of Ada.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Robert Dye and Pastor Bob Seymour officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Ada VFW Post 9381.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, January 2 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and until time of services on Thursday.

Margie M. Miller
Died: Sunday, December 23, 2001
Margie M. Miller, 88, of Lima and formerly of Alger, died Sunday, December 23, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 16, 1913 in Alger, to John Quincy and Hattie (Fultz) Ellis, both of whom are deceased.
Survivors include two sons: Larry K. (Diane) Miller of Wapakoneta and Dennis D. (Peggy A.) Miller of Toledo; a daughter, Janet L. (David) Bushong of Lima; eight grandchildren: Tony Williams, Michael Williams, Steven Williams, Kenneth Williams, Robert Williams, Bradley Miller, Meagan Miller and Melissa Kallstrom; ten great-grandchildren: Jennifer Williams, Derrick Williams, Dallas Williams, Eric Williams, Caytlin Williams, Dakota Williams, Justin Williams, Marissa Jo Williams, Allison Kallstrom and MacKenzie Kallstrom; eight step-great-grandchildren: Nick Dallenbaugh, Dan Dallenbaugh, Joe Sterling, Heather Sheridan, Aaron Sheridan, Kelsey Sheridan, Bonnie Robinson and Danny Robinson; and two sisters: Irene Craig of Toledo and Doris Thorton of Toledo.
She was preceded in death by five sisters: Helen Alcock, Ruth Dicus, Iris Eckenrode, Kathryn Leis and Letha Fensler; and by two brothers: Charles Ellis and Lloyd Ellis.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and was formerly a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Alger.
Services were held Wednesday, December 26 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Jerry Craig officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Everett Edwin "Ted" Hadley Jr.
Died: Saturday, December 22, 2001
Everett Edwin Ted Hadley Jr., 48, of Ada, died Saturday, December 22, 2001 at his residence.
He was born January 15, 1953 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Had Everett Edwin and Carolyn (Walch) Hadley Sr., both of whom survive in Ada.
On June 16, 1978, he married Kristie Campbell, who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include a son, John Michael Hadley of Ada; three sisters: Susan (Scott) Hamilton of Wooster, Massachusetts, Karen (Scott) Keim of Corinth, Maine, and Lynn Hadley of Dayton; and two grandsons: Theodore Lee Hadley and Austin Michael Hadley, both of Ada.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hadley, who died in 1987.
Mr. Hadley sold insurance in Des Moines, Iowa; he then became manager of a coffee supply firm, Coffee Systems of Iowa; he sold real estate for Iowas Realty in Des Moines, Iowa for several years; he purchased and managed The Sports Page restaurant in Des Moines. He moved to Ada in 1991 and worked in Lima restaurants before joining the work force at Wilson's Sporting Goods in Ada.
He attended Parsons College and the University of Iowa before graduating from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a 1971 graduate of Fairfield, Iowa High School.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Findlay.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 27 at 11 a.m. in the English Chapel on the Ohio Northern University campus, with Rev. Elden Smith officiating.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, December 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Hospice Care of Kenton.

Paul A. Burns
Died: Friday, December 21, 2001
Paul A. Burns, 51, of Harrod, died Friday, December 21, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
He was born September 7, 1950 in Piqua, to Paul Lee and Virginia L. (Mabbitt) Burns. His mother, Virginia L. Wireman, survives in Harrod.
On June 25, 1987, he married Sharon L. Coomes, who survives in Harrod.
Other survivors include two sons: Paul Burns, Jr. and Jonathon Burns, both at home; three daughters: Tasha, Emily and Jessica Burns, all at home; three brothers: Dave (Millie) Wireman of Waynesfield, John Wireman, Jr. of Harrod, and Jay Wireman of Columbus; three sisters: Noreen (Mike) Smith of Harrod, Diane Bowen of Harrod, and Tammie Wireman of Lima.
He was preceded in death by the step-father who raised him, John Wireman.
Mr. Burns was a self-employed contractor. He attended Lafayette 1st United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 27 at 1 p.m. at Chiles & Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel with Pastor Mickey A. Kimball officiating.
Burial will be in Auglaize Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post #1275.
Friends may call on the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chiles & Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel.

Kenneth R. Myers Sr.
Died: Friday, December 21, 2001
Kenneth R. Myers Sr., 59, of Columbus Grove, died Friday, December 21, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
He was born November 24, 1942 in Wapakoneta, to Harold and Essie Howard (Legg) Myers, both of whom are deceased.
On February 15, 1974 , he married Dorothy J. Dotty Smith.
Other survivors include three sons: Kenneth R. Russ (Laura) Myers of Ada, Steve D. (Dorothy) Myers of Lima, and Tom (Lisa) Myers of Huntsville, Ohio; a daughter, Judy L. (Lon) Brite of Ada; a brother, Max Myers of Fort Myers, Florida; a sister, Marlene LaMaster of Costa Mesa, California; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his dad who raised him, Paul Legg of Deshler, Ohio; and his ex-wife, Julie Brush.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Myers and a sister, Patty Myers.
Mr. Myers was a machinist at CBC (EZ-PAK), and previously worked at Sheller-Globe and Ex-Cello. He was a graduate of Ada High School. He was a member of Moose Lodge #199, the Eagles Aries #370, and enjoyed working outdoors on his pond. He was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard 148th Infantry.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 28 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, with Rev. David Schneer officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post #1275.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Diabetes Clinic.

Anita M. Hawbecker
Died: Wednesday, December 19, 2001
Anita M. Hawbecker, 68, of Ada, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima.
She was born August 16, 1933 in Pine City, Minnesota, to Earl and Mae (Rosene) Luxmore, both of whom survive in Galesburg, Illinois.
On June 24, 1961, she married Byron L. Hawbecker, who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include two daughters: Denise (Robert) Sutherland of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Melissa (Michael) Miller of Lima; a grand-daughter, Kendra Miller; three sisters: Virginia (John) Haun of Galesburg, Illinois, Delores (Phillip) Corbin of New Port Richey, Florida, and Betty (Robert) Dowd of Viola, Illinois.
Mrs. Hawbecker was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada, where she was Church organist for over 20 years. She was a member and former President of the Church Women's Missionary Society. She also taught Sunday School and was a Bible School teacher. In 1952, she graduated from Knoxville Illinois High School. She worked for the A.S.C. Farm Administration for several years in Galesburg, Illinois. She then attended the University of Arizona for 1 1/2 years. While a student, she worked as a secretary in the Chemistry department. She also served one year as secretary to the President and the Chemistry Department at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.
Services were held Saturday, December 22 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Jack Duffy officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ada.
