Dr. Terry Dean Rainey, D.C.
Died: Tuesday, November 13, 2001
Dr. Terry Dean Rainey, D.C., 57, of VanWert, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at his office.
He was born May 20, 1944 in Lima, to the late Doyle Rainey and Mary Jean (Harris) Houghton. His step-father is James Houghton. James and Mary Jean survive in Sarasota, Florida.
On September 22, 1990, he married Sharon (Bellman) Rainey, who survives in VanWert.
Other survivors include: three sons: Todd Dean (Amy) Rainey of Cincinnati, Ian Robert Rainey of VanWert and Rian Carl Rainey of VanWert; two daughters: Dawn Michelle (Mark) Eberle of Oviedo, Florida and Nichole Lynn (Adam) Nygren of Ohio City; a step-daughter, Emily Anne Poppe of VanWert; a step-son, Joseph Jon Poppe of VanWert; a brother, Dennis Rainey of Miami, Florida; and four grandchildren: Daniel Eberle, Victoria Elizabeth Rainey, Brandon Joseph Rainey and Tyler David Nygren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Rainey.
Dr. Rainey graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1967, served four years in the US Navy (1968-1972) where he received special Vietnam training as a medical corpsman in Camp Lejeune, NC and was attached to various Marine divisions. He served stateside at Bethesda Naval Hospital, US Naval Academy Preparatory School and Bainbridge Naval Training Center. Dr. Rainey was a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the Ohio State Chiropractic Association, the District 7 Chiropractic Association, the Diplomat of International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture, the International Brotherhood of Magicians and VanWert Elks. He was also an avid National Rifle Association supporter and an active participant of the United States Practical Shooting Association. An avid lover and proud owner of Corvettes, he was a member of the Glass Society Corvette Club of Lima.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The funeral home in charge of the arrangements is Cowan & Son Funeral Home, VanWert.

William "Bill" Leonard
Died: Monday, November 12, 2001
William Bill Leonard, 73, of McGuffey, died Monday November 12, 2001, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
He was born May 7, 1928 in Hardin County, to William D. and Gertrude (Armentrout) Leonard. His father and Step-father Richard Coats preceded him in death. His mother Gertrude Coats survives in McGuffey.
On June 21, 1952 he married Norma L. Dorman, and she survives in McGuffey.
Other survivors include three sons: Jeffrey (Barbara) Leonard of Alger, Greg (Peble) Leonard of Alger, and William D. (Stephanie) Leonard of McGuffey, a daughter: Lori (Ronald) Stevenson of Alger, a brother: Ronald (Nancy) Leonard of Ada, nine grandchildren and two great grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Rachel Stevenson.
Mr. Leonard worked for Ex-Cello Corp. in Lima for 20 years and retired from General Dynamics, after 10 years. He also worked for the Hardin County Sheriff's Department and the Hardin County Juvenile Department.
He was a member of the Belle Center Masonic Lodge, #347 F & AM. He was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ, He was raised in Galion, Ohio.
Services will be held Friday, November 16, at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger and prior to services on Friday.
Pastor Scot Caley will be officiating the service.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Shirley Phillips Rettig
Died: Monday, November 12, 2001
Shirley Phillips Rettig, 55, of Ada, died Monday, November 12, 2001, at her residence in Ada.
She was born January 10, 1946 in Tip Top, Kentucky, to Hager and Beatrice (Bailey) Coburn, both of whom are deceased.
On November 20, 1997, she married Michael D. Rettig, who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include a son, James Keith Phillips of Ada; a daughter, Hollie M. (Bryan) Crabtree of Kenton; a step-son, Daniel Rettig of Ada; a step-daughter, Sheri Rettig of Ada; a grandson, Bryan Crabtree, Jr.; three brothers: James (June) Coburn of Shelby, NC, Tom (Cathy) Coburn of Ada, and Tod (Roz) Coburn of McGuffey; three sisters: Patricia (William) Staley of Ada, Ruth (Steve) Scott of Harrod and Judy (Keith) Stone of Ada.
Mrs. Rettig was a homemaker and she attended the Cornerstone Harvest Church in Lima. She was a member of the Hardin County Board of MRDD (Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities) for 16 years. She also served as an EMT on the USV Rescue Squad.
Services will be held Thursday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at Alger Assembly of God Church, Alger.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and one hour prior to the services on Thursday at the Alger Assembly of God Church, Alger.
Rev Kenneth VanHoose and Rev. Randall Wilson will officiate.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Patricia Slone

Patricia Slone, 57, of Pippa Passes, Kentucky and formerly of Alger, died Saturday, November 10, 2001, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
She was born January 18, 1944 in Lima, to Howard P. and Edith (Fry) Currence. Her father is deceased, and her mother survives in Alger.
On November 18, 1968, she married Elzie Slone, who survives in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.
Other survivors include three sons: Donnie Slone of Pippa Passes, KY, Lonnie (Dawn) Slone of McGuffey, and Ronnie Slone of Pippa Passes, KY; four brothers: Howard Lee (Peggy) Currence of Roundhead, David (Kimberly) Currence of Alger, Clay Currence of Alger, and John Currence of Alger; two sisters: Sandra (Kenneth) McNeal of Roundhead and Gerry (William) Fowler of Big Clifty, KY; and three grandchildren: a grandson, Dylan Slone, and two granddaughters: Brooke Slone and Becca Slone.
Mrs. Slone was a homemaker. She was a member of the Caney Baptist Church in Pippa Passes, KY.
Services were held Tuesday, November 13 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Leslie Wireman officiating.
Burial was in Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead.
Rosie Rowe
Died: Thursday, November 8, 2001
Rosie Rowe, 88, of Dola and formerly of Alger, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
She was born March 14, 1913 in Floyd County, Kentucky, to Ira R. and Mirah (Yates) Puckett, both of whom are deceased.
On October 17, 1940, she married Archie Rowe, who passed away on May 1, 1991.
Survivors include six sons: Sam (Donna) Rowe of Dola, Ted (Georgette) Rowe of Alger, Oscar (Linda) Rowe of Alger, Robert (Lorna) Rowe of Kenton, Bill (Rita) Rowe of Rushsylvania, and Dean Rowe of Alger; a daughter, Mary Ann (Joel) Kritzler of Kenton; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Pearlie, Eliza and May Spencer; three brothers: Amos, Thomas and Jimmy Puckett; an infant son, Gerald Rowe; three daughters: Margaret Mulholland, Betty JoAnn Crowe and Anthy Rowe; and two grandsons: Jonathan Edward Rowe and Jerald Dean Mulholland.
Mrs. Rowe was a homemaker.
Services were held Monday, November 12 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Russell Manns officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Veva Stone
Died: Sunday, November 4, 2001
Veva Stone, 87, of Alger, died Sunday, November 4, 2001 at her sister, Elizabeth Anderson's residence in Alger.
She was born October 16, 1914 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, to Floyd and Maude (Spradlin) Collingsworth, both of whom are deceased.
On January 19, 1931 she married Linnie Stone, who died August 15, 1975.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Anderson of Alger; two sisters-in-law: Berniece Collingsworth of Alger and Arizona Collingsworth of Alger.
She was preceded in death by six brothers: Hershel, Paris Pat, Neri, Beri, Paul and Ottis Collingsworth; and by four sisters: Frances Driver, Ollie Risner, Ethel Collingsworth and Alla Marie Hall.
Mrs. Stone was a homemaker. She attended the Alger Assembly of God Church in Alger, and The House of Prayer in Kenton.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 1 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger. Chaplain Michael Collingsworth and Rev. Randall Wilson will officiate. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and until time of services on Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

John W. Shadley, Jr.

John W. Shadley, Jr., 55, of Alger, died Saturday, November 3, 2001 at Dayton-Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born August 24, 1946 in Hardin County, to John W. Sr. and Wilma (Gibson) Shadley. His father is deceased and his mother, Wilma Mullennex survives in Kenton.
He was formerly married to Bonnie Chalfin and then he married Beverly Stone on November 26, 1994, and she survives in Alger.
Other survivors include a son, John Steven (Stacie) Shadley of Kenton; a step-son, Bob Dyer of Alger; a daughter, Lisa Joan (James) Hites of Alger; two step-daughters: Melissa (Bill) Leis of Harrod and Tina (Mike) Kerchenfaut of Harrod; a brother, Dennis F. Shadley of Alger; two sisters: Marilyn L. (Larry) Vivola of Oxnard, CA, and Cynthia S. (Jim) Logsdon of Findlay; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Mr. Shadley was a laborer at Arvin-Meritor, Inc. of Kenton. He was a member of the Alger Memorial Committee.
Services were held Wednesday, November 7 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Pastor Mark Bayliff officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Charles Dean Campbell

Charles Dean Campbell, 67, of Toledo, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, at St. Charles - Mercy Hospital in Toledo.
He was born September 23, 1934 in Lakeview, to Roy and Virginia Lee (Adams) Campbell.
He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War in the boiler room of an aircraft carrier. He was a graduate of Ada High School.
Survivors include stepchildren: Betty (Fred) Johnson, Dora (Ron) Kelser, Verlyn (Buz) Finch, Dan (Connie) Webster, and Carol (Paul) Schenavar; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers: Paul (Millie) Downing, Jr., Jerry Downing, Robert Downing and Leroy Downing; three sisters: Karen Campbell, Mary Downing and Sally Smith; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 29 years, Betty Ann (Cullen) Campbell on December 9, 1997; and his step-father, William Lloyd Downing.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 2 at Strabler Funeral Home, 1163 W. Sylvania at Lockwood, Toledo. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1 from 4-8 p.m.
Burial will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy.
Alberta Y. Wireman
Died: Sunday, October 28, 2001
Alberta Y. Wireman, 49, of Alger, died Sunday, October 28, 2001 at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehabilitation Center, Lakeview.
She was born December 22, 1951 in Martin, Kentucky, to Edward and Betty (Hicker) Crist, both of whom are surviving in Lima.
On March 28, 1978, she married William Bill Wireman, Jr., who survives in Waynesfield.
Other survivors include a son, Bryan (Tonya) Wireman of Waynesfield; a grandson, Brett Michael Wireman; two brothers: Ben (April) Crist of Lima and Bill (Jan) Crist of Elida; a half brother, Darrell Ratliff of Tennessee; three sisters: Brenda (Jeff) Pack of Ypsilanti, Mich., Debbie (Dale) Woods of Lima, and Tammy (Max) Zeigler of Wapakoneta; and a half sister, Lisa Riley of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Angela Crist.
Mrs. Wireman was the Breakfast Coordinator at Burger King restaurant in Wapakoneta. She attended the Lima Deliverance Tabernacle in Lima and was a Gospel Singer for God.
Services were held on Wednesday, October 31 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Marcus Brown officiating.
Burial was in Roundhead Cemetery, Roundhead.

Freddye L. West

Freddye L. West, 70, of Ada, died Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
She was born April 17, 1931 in Wellston, Ohio, to Orton and Helen (Stewart) Chapman, both of whom are deceased.
On October 21, 1951, she married John West, who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include a daughter, Brooke (Jeffrey) Muscarello of Ada and a sister, June (Hugh) Barnhill of Centerville, Ohio.
Mrs. West was a secretary at Ohio Northern University. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Hamden, Ohio. She graduated from Hamden High School in 1949.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 31 at Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston, Ohio. Funeral home in charge of the arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.

Bette Jane Dirmeyer

Bette Jane Dirmeyer, 80, of Lima, died Thursday, October 25, 2001 at Cridersville Nursing Home.
She was born November 29, 1920 in Buffalo, New York, to Arthur J. and Marie (Johnson) Wilson, both of whom are deceased.
On December 5, 1943 , she married Robert P. Dirmeyer, who survives.
Other survivors include a brother, Russell J. Wilson of Buffalo, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dirmeyer owned and operated Bette Jane School of Dance, and was a dance instructor for the YMCA. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 57 years.
Graveside services and burial were held Wednesday, October 31 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, with Dick Coon officiating. The funeral home in charge of arrangements was Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes of Lima.

Shawn Thomas, 17, of Ada, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
He was born July 24, 1984 in Toledo, to Jeffrey and Pamela Zachariah Thomas. His father, Jeffrey Thomas survives in Reynoldsburg. His mother, Pamela and step-father, Phil Moore survive in Ada.
Other survivors include a brother, Matthew Stobbe at home; a sister, Erin (Tom) Umphress of Ada; a step-brother, Jason Moore of Benzonia, Mich.; a step-sister, Kristi Moore of Benzonia, Mich.; a nephew, Caleb Stobbe of Ada; two maternal grandmothers: Rella Zachariah of Lima and Joan Zachariah of Ada.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ted Zachariah and his paternal grandparents Martin and Florence Thomas.
Shawn was a former member of the Ada High School basketball team and formerly attended Ada High School. He worked for the Ada War Memorial Park and at the Eagles Nest Restaurant in Bluffton.
Services were held Saturday, October 27 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Tom Dearth officiating.
Burial was held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Margaret LaDonna Conkle

Margaret LaDonna Conkle, 70, of Harrod, died Sunday, October 21, 2001 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.
She was born January 30, 1931 in Hardin County, to Ross E. and Ethel G. (Gildow) McGinnis, both of whom are deceased.
On January 19, 1950, she married John W. Jack Conkle, who survives in Harrod.
Mrs. Conkle was a homemaker who was a member of the Farm Women's Organization of Allen County.
Other survivors include a son, Lloyd Russell (Julie) Conkle of Lafayette; a daughter, Rebecca Younkman of Spring Arbor, Michigan; three granddaughters: Jennifer Younkman, Cathleen Younkman and Natalie Conkle; and a sister, Sue Krouskop of West Newton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Bradley Conkle, on January 28, 2001.
Services were held Wednesday, October 24 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada with Pastor Mark Bayliff officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

Mary C. Scott, 81, of Alger, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA.
She was born February 17, 1920 in Alger, to Joshua and Viola Mae (Boyd) Orders, both of whom are deceased.
On December 29, 1938, she married William W. Scott, who passed away on December 31, 1980.
Survivors include three sons: Richard Ward (Susan) Scott of Ada, William Walter (Betty) Scott, Jr. of Hinesville, GA, and Thomas Leroy (Lesa) Scott of Alger; three daughters: Joyce Mae Reiff of Savannah, GA, Sandra Sue McKinley of McGuffey, and Kaylene Faye Ward of Alger; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers: Ervil L., Russell E., Burdett Red, Kenneth R., Vincent E., and James O. Orders; five sisters: Sarah Naomi Spurlock, Emma Dorman, Marie Crawford, Juanita Smith and Eva L. Newfer; a grandson, Douglas C. Ward; and three sons-in-law: Eddy Reiff, John McKinley, and Larry Ward.
Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and a member of the Alger Assembly of God Church, Alger.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 20 at the Alger Assembly of God, Alger, with Rev. Randall C. Wilson officiating. Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, was in charge of the arrangements.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Phyllis M. Conley

Phyllis M. Conley, 74, of McGuffey, died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Ravenwood Care Center in Kenton.
She was born November 8, 1926 in Hardin County, to Orville and Mildred (Daniels) Cockerell, both of whom are deceased.
On April 30, 1946, she married Bill J. Conley, and he passed away on October 24, 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathie (Larry) Smith of Dola; four grandchildren: Bill Smith, Angie (Gary) Hall, Jackie Tackett and Christy (Michael) Curry; five great-grandchildren: Kendra and Colton Hall, Macy Tackett, Bryce and Kane Curry; and two brothers: Bud (Jane) Cockerell and Danny (Nancy) Cockerell, both of Ada.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Lee Tackett; two sisters: Berniece Morrison and Marian Balliett; and a brother, Delbert Tink Cockerell.
Mrs. Conley retired from Wilson Sporting Goods on June 1, 1993 where she worked as a Lacer and Packer for 36 years. She was also a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ.
Services were held Tuesday October 16 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. D. Ray Miller officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
