Ben P. Conley
Died: Wednesday, May 22, 2002
Ben P. Conley, 72, of Ada, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
He was born April 4, 1930 in Bonanza, Kentucky, to Ottis and Grace (Harmon) Conley.
On November 2, 1949, he married Reita M. Woods, and she died on May 7, 1988. He then married Lois Myers Mathews on on July 7, 1997 and she survives in Ada.
Other survivors include a son, Mike (Sandra) Conley of Ada; two step-daughters: Karen (Rick) Smith of Lafayette and Sheri (John) Woodland of Findlay; a brother, Donald (Lois) Conley of Chantilly, Virginia; and three grandsons: Christopher Conley of Ada, Bryan Conley of Ada and Steven Conley of Ada.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Conley and by a granddaughter, Kathryn Conley.
Mr. Conley retired from Sheller Globe in 1982 after 32 years and he then worked in the maintenance department of the Oakwood Correctional Institute, and retired from there in 1991.
He was a Sergeant 1st Class in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He retired from the Army Reserves after 26 years as Master Sergeant. He was a life member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 and a member of the Ada Lodge #344 F&AM. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent #6 of Lima, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3615, and the Royal Order of the Moose #1533 of Indian Lake. He was also a life member of the AMVETS of Kenton and a member of the Northside Bassmasters Association.
Services were held on Saturday, May 25 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor H.M. "Gus" Guthrie officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, with graveside military services by the Ada VFW Post #9381.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation and the American Heart Association.

Cecil T. Freytag
Died: Sunday, May 19, 2002
Cecil T. Freytag, 43, died May 19, 2002 at SCCI Hospital of Lima.
He was born August 1, 1958 in Lima to Robert and Barbara (Patterson) Freytag, who survive in Harrod.
On July 22, 1977, he married Jean M. McGrath, who survives in Harrod.
Also surviving is a son, Cecil T. Freytag II, of Harrod; a daughter, Donna Freytag, of Fostoria; a brother, Bob Freytag, of Lima; a sister, Kimberly Bingham, of Alger; and two grandchildren, Hailey and Troy Freytag.
He formerly worked at Associated Plastics of Ada and Metal Coating Company in Lima. He was a graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School in 1977.
Services were Wednesday, May 22 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Pastor Calvin Waugh officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

Leon Turnwald
Died: Sunday, May 19, 2002
Leon Turnwald, 83, died May 19, 2002 at Van Crest Care Center of Van Wert.
He was born January 30, 1919 in Lenawee County, Mich., to William and Mary (Landwehr) Turnwald, who are deceased.
On June 21, 1944, he married Rita Miller, who survives in Ottoville.
Also surviving is a son, Steve (Ann) Turnwald of Fort Wayne, Ind.; five daughters, Dorothy (Jose) Flores and Irene (Roger) Helms, both of Ottoville; Jeanette (Kenneth) Hazelton of Ada; Agnes (James) Ellebrock of Ottawa and Nancy (Lawrence) Suer of Cincinnati; a brother, John (Dolores) Turnwald of Ottoville; two sisters, Anna Marie Eickholt of Ottoville and Betty (Karl) Schumacher of Columbus Grove; a sister-in-law, Betty (Elmer) Friemoth of Delphos; and 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvester and William Turnwald Jr.; a brother-in-law, Jerome Eickholt; a grandchild, Andy Helms, and a great-grandchild, Myka Turnwald.
He retired as a farmer in 1981 and from Ottoville Lumber Co. He had also worked at National Lime and Stone Co. for 17 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and its Holy Name Society. He was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church on Nov. 17, 1984, and retired from active ministry in 2000. He had served on the Ottoville Local school board.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday May 23 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, with the Rev. Tony Borgia officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Ottoville.
Arrangements are in charge of Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Madge E. Carey
Died: Friday, May 17, 2002
Madge E. Carey, 91, of Cridersville, and formerly of Ada, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at Cridersville Health Care Center.
She was born June 24, 1910 in Hardin County, to Melvin E. and Nioma M. (Ikenberry) Carey.
Survivors include a son, Jack L. (Kathryn) Pisel, Jr. of Lima; three grandchildren: Jeff (Kim) Pisel of Lima, Kalra (Michael) Strange of Lima, and Kaleen (Gerald) Wineinger of Tokyo, Japan; a brother, Dwight Carey of Winterhaven, Florida; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Max Carey.
Ms. Carey was a clerk at Gregg's Department Store and their retail stores in Lima. Madge was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church of Lima.
Public graveside services were held on Monday, May 20 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, with Pastor Larry Hopkins officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Shirley R. McClure
Died: Saturday, May 11, 2002
Shirley R. McClure, 73, of Ruskin, Florida, formerly of Harrod, died May 11, 2002, at her residence in Ruskin, Florida.
She was born July 10, 1928, in Lima, to Alonzo and Ethel (Golden) Lyons, born of whom are deceased.
On November 10, 1946, she married Bill J. McClure, who survives in Ruskin, Florida.
Also surviving is one son, David W. (Lalita) McClure, of Bastrop, Texas; two daughters: Linda (Gregg) Sawyer of Montgomery, Texas, and Chris (Hal) Nungester of Harrod; two brothers: James Lyons and Robert (Sue) Lyons, all of Lima; and one sister, Patricia (Larry) Swaney of Ruskin, Florida; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Richard McClure; one daughter, Rebecca McClure; one brother, Al Lyons, and one sister, Mary Huber.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Harrod Christian Church, Harrod and attended Ruskin United Methodist Church, Ruskin, Florida.
Services were held Wednesday, May 15, at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Pastor Rich Biclawski officiating. Burial was in Harrod Cemetery, Harrod.

Ellis D. Vandemark
Died: Saturday, June 23, 2001
Ellis D. Vandemark, 91, of Lima, died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.
He was born July 15, 1909 in Kalida, to Emmet Art and Ida Margaret (Irvin) Vandemark.
On August 12, 1933, he married Treva O. Huber, who passed away December 31, 1991.
Survivors include two daughters: Sue (Merwyn) Rockhold of Alger and Sharon (Carl) Hennon of Lima; a brother, Milford Vandemark of Ada; three sisters: Imogene Schlosser of Lima, Frieda Kindle of Ada, and Vida Preston of Dola; six grandchildren: Julie Rockhold, Dennis (Beth) Rockhold, Darren (Laura) Rockhold, Stacie Rockhold, Karen (Tim) Blanchong, and Brian (Paulette) Hennon; six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Irvin and Myron Vandemark; and two sisters: Venna Schaller and Ethel Frankhauser.
Mr. Vandemark started as a patrolman with the Lima Police Department on February 8, 1943 and worked there for 28 years. He retired in 1970 and was honored with a gold badge. He was a 50-year member of the St. Marks United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the F.O.P. Lodge #21. He was also a lifetime member of the Allen County Conservation Club. He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1929.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 26 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Lewis Memorial Chapel, Lima, with the Rev. Howard Allison officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Honor Guard provided by the Lima Police Dept.

Larry L. Cheney
Died: Wednesday, June 20, 2001
Larry L. Cheney, 60, of Upper Sandusky, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his residence.
He was born November 8, 1940 in Wyandot County to Chester H. and Marguerite A. (Bolyard) Cheney.
On July 2, 1960, he married Dorothy A. Coldiron in New Winchester, Ohio, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons: Richard A. Cheney and Michael L. Cheney, both of Upper Sandusky; three grandchildren: Jennifer, Jevon and Alexandra; five brothers: James Cheney of Carey; Steven Cheney of Upper Sandusky; Dennis Cheney of Weston; Roger Cheney of Ashland and Randy Cheney of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a sister, Judith Lianos of Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Cheney was a 1958 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. He retired in July 2000 after 33 years as a lineman for AEP-Ohio Power. He had also worked ten years for the former Kroger store in Upper Sandusky. For the past year, he had worked part-time at Fine Furniture Gallery in Upper Sandusky.
He was a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. He was also a member of the Wyandot County Rod and Gun Club and the Wyandot Classics and Cruisers Car Club. He played on the AEP Golf League and was a charter member of the Upper Sandusky Police Department Auxiliary. He enjoyed playing golf, watching his grandchildren participate in sports, walking, classic cars, riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing and watching Western movies.
Services were held Saturday, June 23 at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Charles Steward officiating.
Burial was in Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Roberta Charlotte Mauk
Died: Saturday, June 16, 2001
Roberta Charlotte Mauk, 79, of Lafayette, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at her residence.
She was born on September 13, 1921 in Lima, to William F. and Lina B. (Danz) Zwick.
On August 8, 1940, she married Carey E. Mauk, who died on July 21, 1972.
Survivors include two sons: Clinton (Lillian) Mauk of Wapakoneta and David (Marit Dale) Mauk of Trondheim, Norway; three daughters: Leslie (Jerry) Thais of Terre Haute, Indiana, Ann (Paul) Bonito of Lima, and Sara Mauk (Michael O'Connor) of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Doris A. Zwick of Lima; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by a brother, Frederick Zwick.
Mrs. Mauk had been a Librarian for the Lafayette Branch of the Lima Public Library.
She had also been a study hall monitor and cook at Allen East Local School for 15 years. She had sold antiques with her brother Fred Zwick. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lafayette and taught Sunday School there. She was a great chef, an avid reader, a constant encouragement and inspiration to her family.
Her creativity was apparent in her enjoyment of painting, judgement of fine antiques, knitting, crocheting, sewing and independence. Roberta also valued her close friends.
Services will be held Thursday, June 21 at 10 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lafayette. Rev. Larry Trover will be officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Siferd Funeral Home - Westwood Chapel, 506 N. Cable Rd., Lima. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Public Library or to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lafayette.

Gladys Grant-Fleming-Smith
Died: Wednesday, June 13, 2001
Gladys Grant-Fleming-Smith, 88, of Ada, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
She was born May 11, 1913 in Jackson Township, Allen County. She was the fifth child of Jacob Ira and Nettie Pearl (Snyder) Grant. Her grandparents were Jacob and Sarah (Anspach) Grant and Ambrose and Millianna (Shrider) Snyder.
She attended Peanut Primary School and Lafayette-Jackson High School, which she graduated from in 1931. Among her activities was four years on the girls basketball team.
On December 29, 1934, she married Cecil William Fleming and they moved to Toledo. Three of their four children: Sandra (Frederick) Gebhardt, Beverly (Vernon) Stevens and Dennis Cecil (Marty) Fleming, were born there. Another daughter, Linda (Thomas) Harrelson, was born in the Allen County area after the family moved back to Jackson Township in 1948. On July 17, 1952, Cecil passed away.
On July 31, 1953, Gladys married Eugene H. Smith and he died December 1, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Dennis (Marty) Fleming of Lima; three daughters: Sandra (Frederick) Gebhardt of Barnstable, Massachusetts, Beverly (Vernon) Stevens of Dublin, Ohio and Linda (Thomas) Harrelson of San Carlos, California; two sisters-in-law: Alice Grant of Bluffton and Lennie Grant of Lima; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Morscheck, and four brothers: Clyde, Carl, Harold and Morris Grant.
Mrs. Smith was a farmer and homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ada, and a member of the Zetetic Club in Ada. She was a member of Farm Bureau Council #5 and a member of the Allen County Extension. She was also a member of both the Ada and Bluffton Senior Groups.
Services were held Saturday, June 16 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ada, with Pastor Thomas Arheit officiating. Burial will be in Candler Cemetery, Ada. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Ada.

Esther M. (Hawk) McCague
Died: Tuesday, June 12, 2001
Esther M. (Hawk) McCague, 97, of LaFayette, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.
She was born on August 17, 1903, in Allen County to William B. and Cordelia (Albert) Hawk.
On May 9, 1925, she married James F. McCague, who died on May 29, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Ted (Laura) McCague of LaFayette; two daughters: Carolyn and Kathleen McCague, both of LaFayette; one granddaughter, Pamela Bloomfield; two great-granddaughters: Christina and Erica Bloomfield; one great-grandson, Bradley Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three grandsons: Steven James McCague, Gregory McCague, and Jeffery McCague and by a brother, Russell Hawk.
Mrs. McCague was a homemaker. She was a member of the LaFayette Congregational Christian Church, the Kings Daughters Class, and the Women's Fellowship of the church. She was a 4-H advisor for many years for the LaFayette Busy Bees and a Charter member of the Social Order of Beauceants. She was a 1921 graduate of LaFayette-Jackson High School.
Services were held Sat., June 16 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial was in LaFayette Cemetery.

Jonas Allen Neely

Jonas Allen Neely was stillborn at 1:33 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Survivors include parents Christopher Allen and Laura Marie (Wilson) Neely of Galloway, Ohio.
Maternal grandparents are Nathan and Ruth (Barnes) Wilson of Circleville, Ohio. Maternal great grandmother is Margaret Barnes of Williamsport, Ohio.
Paternal grandparents are Bruce and Saundra (Louthan) Neely of Ada.
Paternal great-grandparents are Ernest and Ruth Neely of Antwerp, Ohio.
Paternal great grandmother is Mary Louthan of Ada.
He was preceded in death by maternal great grandfather Robert O. Barnes, maternal great grandparents Wells and Janet Wilson, and paternal great grandfather LeRoy Louthan.
Family graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family by Pastor Ken Murphy of Cypress Wesleyan Church in Galloway, Ohio.
Arrangements will be handled by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Memorial contributions may be given to the Madison Christian School (Nursery) at 3635 Bixby Road, Groveport, Ohio 43125.

Alice Mae Brumett
Died: Saturday, June 9, 2001
Alice Mae Brumett, 69, Ada, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at her residence.
She was born December 12, 1931 in Lima, to Paul D. and Sarah Evelyn (Best) Miller.
On November 9, 1952, she married Marshall L. Brumett, who survives in Ada.
Other survivors include a son, Greg Brumett of Ada; four daughters: Tamara (Donald) Bryan of Ada, Tina (Thomas) Numbers of Lima, Teresa (Bruce) Music of Lima and Tracie (Robert) Simon of Ada; four sisters: Catherine (Norman) Case, Florence (Gerald) Crates, Gloria (Donald) Shulaw, and Sally Roof, all of Lima; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Sue Miller.
Mrs. Brumett was a homemaker, a hairdresser and a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a member of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church of Ada, the Ada VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9381: Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the former Ada Business Women's Club. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Mother Advisor for the Ada Rainbow Girls.
She was a 1950 graduate of Ada High School and a 1951 graduate of Frederick's Beauty College of Lima.
She worked for 16 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Richland Manor Nursing Home in Bluffton.
Services were held Tuesday, June 12 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Thomas Dearth officiating. Memorial services were also held by the Ada VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family and/or Ada Visiting Nurses and Hospice.

Roy L. Johns
Died: Friday, June 8, 2001
Roy L. Johns, 82, died June 8, 2001 at Colonial Care Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.
He was born June 25, 1918 in Middlepoint, Ohio to Oscar L. and Alice M. (Nungester) Johns.
He was married to Ila Mae (Hamilton) Johns, who died in September 1988.
Survivors include a son, Terry Lee (Carolyn) Lay of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Sandra G. Giles of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers: Gerald Johns of Waynesfield and Fred Johns of Wapakoneta; two sisters: Eileen Ryan of Lima and Maxine Ribley of Kingston, Georgia; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Donald Jack Johns and Carl Johns.
Mr. Johns was a truck driver for the Allen County Engineers Office. He was a member of the First Evangelical and Reformed Church. He was a veteran of World War II in the Army and a life member of the VFW Post 1275. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans #19 and the American Legion Post 96.
Services were held June 12 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial was also at Memorial Park Cemetery with VFW Post 1275 performing military rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Shirley A. Hudson
Died: Wednesday, June 6, 2001
Shirley A. Hudson, 65, of Lima, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
She was born October 27, 1935 in Alger, to Herbert C. and Vivian (Wineman) Hughes, both are deceased.
In 1956, she married Neil R. Armstrong, Sr. and they divorced. Later she married Donald Hudson and he is deceased. Her special friend and companion, Ishmel Red Orick, survives in Lima.
Other survivors include three sons: David E. Armstrong of Wapakoneta, Ernie G. (Mary) Armstrong of Wilmington, NC, and Neil R. Armstrong, Jr. of Ohio City; three daughters: Joyce C. (Buck) Rinaldi of Sidney, Ruth L. Armstrong of Lima and Denise A. Armstrong of Lima; one brother, LaVerne (Charlotte) Hughes, of Kenton; two sisters: Beverly DeLong of Alger and Sylvia (Jerry) LaCroix Kuykendall of Portland, Oregon; two step-brothers: Larry (Charlotte) Pratt of Alger and David (Cindy) Pratt of Marion; one step-sister, Saundra (Melvin) Hopson of Westminster; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Lucille (Pratt) Hughes.
Mrs. Hudson was a member of the Alger Assembly of God Church.
She also was a member of the Blue Star Mothers in Lima, the Orioles Nest #173 in Lima, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 0096 of Lima, Women of the Moose Chapter #52 in Lima, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #370 in Lima. She also enjoyed doing craft work.
Services were held Monday, June 11 at Alger Assembly of God Church, Alger, with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.

Mable E. Wilson
Died: Wednesday, June 6, 2001
Mable E. Wilson, 83, of Lima, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
She was born July 18, 1917 in Putnam County to Charles Gus and Maggie (McEowen) Hunt.
On October 19, 1974, she married William O. Wilson, who is deceased.
Survivors include one daughter, Alvada Elizabeth (Richard) Dicus, Ada; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Roy Hunt.
Mrs. Wilson was a cook in the restaurant business.
Memorial services were held Monday, June 11 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with the Rev. Wayne Albertson officiating.

Charles F. Conklin

Dr. Charles F. Conklin, 81, Little Rock, Ark. and formerly of Ada, died on Monday, May 14, 2001 in Little Rock.
He was born Sept. 25, 1919 in Waynesburg, Pa. to LeMoyne and Ida Mae Conklin. He married Betty Louise Clawson on Dec. 4, 1942, and she died on Dec. 21, 1986.
He is survived by a son, Charles S. Conklin of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Isherwood of La Jolla, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Carole Ottum of Racine, Wis.
Dr. Conklin was retired from Ohio Northern University in Ada, where he was former Chairman of the Department of Economics and Business. Dr. Conklin taught money and banking, economics, and marketing and held the George Willard Patton Chair of Economics during his tenure at ONU from 1966-1984. He earned his BA from Waynesburg College and his MA and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ada, Bethany Lodge No. 69 F&AM, 32 degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA, Wheeling, West Virginia and the American Economics Association. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 during World War II including active combat in the European Theatre with the 290th Infantry.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2001 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Rev. Patrick Allen will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or ONU.

Dexter Dyer
Died: Monday, May 14, 2001
Dexter Dyer, 78, died on Monday, May 14, 2001 at 1:05 p.m. at his home in rural Alger.
He was born Aug. 1, 1922 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Leonard and Dora (Watson) Dyer. Both parents are deceased. He married Dora Minix on Nov. 2, 1940 and she survives in Alger.
Dyer retired from Ford Motor Company in Lima after 28 years where he was a group 3 cleaner.
He was a member of the Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church in Lafayette. He was a member of the McGuffey Conservation Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener.
Survivors include three sons: Kenneth (Judy) Dyer of Harrod, Danny (Connie) Dyer of Alger, and Rick (Lori) Dyer of Alger; five daughters: Watha (Darrell) Guyton of Lafayette, Linda (Kenny) Rowe of Harrod, Doris Dyer of Bellefontaine, Cindy Dyer of Alger, and Jackie (Tony) DeCarlo of Johnstown, Ohio; two brothers: Hetzel (Mary Sue) Dyer of Ann Arbor, Mich. and J.B. (Martha) Dyer of Kalamazoo, Mich.; three sisters: Monnie (Cecil) Minix of Jackson, Mich., Iva Jean (Carl) Roe of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Melovette (Bill) Wadsworth of Glendale, Az.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, twin brothers Rex and Roy Dyer, and five sisters: Bonnie Barnette, Beulah Arnett, Maude Forsyth, Opal Williams and Mary Hoskins.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. The Rev. Ellis Puckett will officiate. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and until time of service on Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice Care of Lima.

Paul E. Fletcher
Died: Monday, May 14, 2001
Paul E. Fletcher, 74, of Ada, died on Monday, May 14, 2001 at 8 a.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Dec. 2, 1926 in Royalton, Ky. to Tracy and Alta (Marshall) Fletcher. Both parents are deceased.
He married Emogene Wright on March 21, 1951, and she survives in Ada.
Fletcher retired as a supervisor from United Telephone Company in 1983 after 27 years.
He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Lafayette and the Ada Masonic Lodge #344 F&A.M. of Ada. He was also a Past Worshipful Master of the Ada Lodge in 1965. He was a former member of the Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9381 of Ada. He formerly was a volunteer of the Ada-Liberty Fire Department and a volunteer for the Ada Village Police Department. He is a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Other survivors include two sons: Paul (Lin) Fletcher of Ada and Brian Fletcher of Lima; two daughters: Debbie (Rick) Tipple of Gallipolis, and Sandra Zsembik of Ada; one brother, Elmer (Mary Lou) Fletcher of Hobbs, New Mexico; three sisters: Jean Smith of Wooster, Ruth Fletcher of Ada, and Della Newland of Ada; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Duane Fletcher.
Ada Masonic Memorial Services will be held at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church, Lafayette, with the Rev. Ellis Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Ada VFW Post 9381 will conduct graveside military services.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Ada and one hour prior to services at the church in Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Central Ohio Kidney Foundation of Lima and/or Ada-Liberty Rescue Squad.

Seth Peters
Died: Monday, May 14, 2001
Seth R. Peters, 84, of Bellefontaine and formerly of Bald Knob, W. Va., died at 6:55 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, Ga.
Peters was born July 9, 1916 in Boone County, West Virginia to Rice and Arminnie (Honicker) Peters.
He first married Wanda Lay and later married Sybil Legg, and both deceased. On Sept. 3, 1985 he married Beatrice Sexton, who survives in Bellefontaine.
Peters was a coal miner. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Van, W. Va. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge of W. Virginia.
Survivors include one son, Bill (Brenda) Peters of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Sandra (Ronnie) Knight of Fayetteville, N.C.; six stepsons: Harold Sexton of Bellefontaine, Roger (Darlene) Sexton of Alger, Bob (Sue) Sexton of Jesup, Ga., Gary (Janet) Sexton of Rushsylvania, James (Kris) Sexton of Ada, and Steve Sexton of Bellefontaine; four stepdaughters: Geraldine (James) Cowen of Kenton, Phyllis (Emmett) McDaniels of Kenton, Linda (Leroy) McGregor of Lima, and Debbie Sexton of Jesup, Ga.; 32 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David; one great-granddaughter, Ashleigh Lowe; four brothers, and two sisters.
Services will be begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger and prior to services on Saturday.

George Shepherd
Died: Friday, May 11, 2001
George Shepherd, Jr., 64, of Harrod, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at Heartland of Indian Lake Rehab Center.
He was born June 6, 1936 in Floyd County, Ky., to George Sr. and Lucie Anna (Moore) Shepherd. His father is deceased and his mother, Lucie Anna Stalnaker, lives in Lima.
On Oct. 16, 1956, he married Junie Manns, who survives.
Survivors include two brothers: Eugene (Kay) Shepherd, Alger; and Ivory Shepherd, Lima; and one sister, Barbara (Paul) Bender, Lima.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Shepherd, and three infant daughters.
Mr. Shepherd was retired from the Hardin County Home in Kenton, where he worked in the maintenance dept. for 20 years. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Holden, Ohio, and his hobbies included fishing and gardening.
Services were held Tuesday, May 15, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger with the Rev. Virgil Hendrickson officiating.Burial was in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery in Kenton.

David A. Crowe
Died: Wednesday, May 9, 2001
David A. Crowe, 58, Palm Desert, Cal, formerly of Webster, NY, and Ada, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Rancho Mirage, Cal.
He was born April 5, 1943 in Celina to Arthur L. and Pauline (Neumann) Crowe.
His father died on Dec. 8, 2000, and his mother survives in Ada.
On Dec. 26, 1959, he married Arlene Sabol, who survives.
Survivors include one son, Tim Crowe, Chillicothe; one brother, Roger (Julie) Crowe, Kenton; one sister, Judith A. Crowe, Lima; two grandchildren: Jordan C. and Aubrey Mancl, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; mother-in-law, Vivian L. Sabol, Menomonie, WI; brother-in-law, John A. (Michelle) Sabol, Lima.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dean Crowe, and a daughter-in-law, Marcia Crowe.
Mr. Crowe was a mechanical engineer with 30 years experience at Eastman Kodak Company with focus on technology development for state-of-the-art optical systems.
His major achievement was Ultra-light mirror blank technologies for glass.
Memorial services were held May 14, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada with the Rev. Patrick Allen officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association.

Barbara H. Cooley
Died: Tuesday, May 8, 2001
Barbara H. Cooley, 69, of Lima, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 18, 1931 in Springfield, Ohio, to Harold and Helen (Jenkins) Turner.
On Jan. 31, 1951, she married Rev. Franklin Cooley, who survives in Lima.
Survivors include three sons: William M. Cooley, Lima, Dr. David (Amada) Cooley, Lima, and Kevin (Barbara) Cooley, Lima; one daughter, Sharon (Rev. William) Kelley, Goshen; two brothers: William Turner, Cambridge, Ohio, and Thomas Turner, of Florida; two half-sisters: Marian Hemphill, Huntsville, Ohio, and Eleanor Beacom, Delaware, Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, David Antonio Cooley.
Memorial services were held May 11 at Grace United Methodist Church, Lima, with Rev. Richard Steigleder officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Foundation Fund or to the Lima Branch AAUW Scholarship Fund.

Pamela S. Jaycox
Died: Monday, May 7, 2001
Pamela Sue Jaycox, Alger, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at approximately 12:45 a.m. due to an ATV accident near McGuffey.
She was born Dec. 7, 1959 in Granite City, Ill. to Vernon R. and Anna (Hulquist) Vasquez. Her father survives in Granite City, Ill. Her mother is deceased. She married Charles Harrison Jaycox on Jan. 22, 1983. He survives in Alger. She was a machine operator at International Paper in Kenton.
She was a member of The Holy Family Catholic Church of Granite City, Ill.
Survivors include two sons: Edward Gerber of Alger and Charles Harrison Jaycox, Jr. of Alger; two daughters: Amy (Rene) Ramirez of Alger and Patricia Gerber of Alger; one brother, Robert Vasquez of Granite City, Ill; seven sisters: Sharon Seifert of Rock Ledge, Fla., Doris (David) Fear of Hiawatha, Iowa, Evelyn (Larry) Harris of Granite City, Ill., Beverly (Glen) Wilson of Pontoon Beach, Ill., Katherine (Rick) Weissonborn of Granite City, Ill., Carol (Jim) Gerstner of Troy, Mo., and Theresa (Rich) Thomas of Edwardsville, Ill.; and two grandchildren: Christina Wallace and Andrew Ramirez. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Vasquez.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11 at The Holy Family Catholic Church, Granite City, Ill. Rev. Bill Fisherkeller will officiate.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Irwin Chapel in Granite City, Ill. where a Prayer Service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Jaycox family.
Funeral home handling arrangements were made by Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger.
