Boyd Marion Sobers
Died: Thursday, April 26, 2001
Boyd Marion Sobers, 87, died at his home on Thursday, April 26, 2001.
He was born on March 24, 1914 in Wyandot County, Ohio to Irma and Wilbur Sobers.
He graduated from Eden High School near Upper Sandusky, then from Ohio Northern University (B.A.) in Ada, and received a master's degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland.
In 1942, he married Martha Frieda Schilling. Mr. Sobers was a WWII veteran of the United States Air Force, having taken officer training in Charleston, West Virginia and an assignment to Hickam Field in Hawaii.
A teacher by profession, he taught in Roundhead, New London and Indian Hills High Schools.
The remainder of his teaching career he was a professor of history and political science at Ohio Northern University.
During that tenure, he gained a reputation as an expert in Ohio history and wrote the Collier's Encyclopedia annual yearbook section on activities in the state.
Mr. Sobers was active in community affairs, serving on the Village Council in Ada.
He was also active in the Ada Republican Party (Central Committeeman), Community Improvement Corporation, the United Way, and the First Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, and three children: Sharon Jo Sobers, of Montgomery, Ohio; Ellen Rose (Sobers) Marshall and husband, John, of Mainville, Ohio; and Stephen J. Sobers and wife, Helen, of Washington Court House, Ohio, as well as four grandchildren:
Jennifer (Sobers) Johnson and husband, Lee, of Greer, South Carolina; Philip Sobers of Washington Court House, Ohio; John Marshall of Washington, D.C. and wife Julie, of Baltimore, Maryland; and one great-grandchild, Olivia Marshall.
Mr. Sobers had been a resident of Washington Court House since 1998.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 at the Salem United Methodist Church near Upper Sandusky.
Friends may call at the Morrow Funeral Home in Washington Court House from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Marilynne Shanks Ellery
Died: Tuesday, April 10, 2001
Marilynne Ruth Shanks Ellery, 78, Houston, Texas, died on April 10, 2001.
She was born Feb. 16, 1923 in Toledo.
Survivors include her sister, Jane (Robert) Rimer, Houston, Tx.; a nephew, John (Melissa) Rimer, Massillion, Ohio; two nieces: Elizabeth Rimer, Houston, Tx., and Amy Rimer (Kenneth) Largesse, Oxford, Ma.
Mrs. Shanks graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor's degree, and from the University of Toledo with a master's degree. She was an educator in the Toledo Public Schools and at Ohio Northern University. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and Pi Lambda Theta, Kappa Delta Pi, and Delta Kappa Gamma honoraries. She volunteered at the Houston Heritage Society, Twice Blessed, and Holly Hall. She was a member of Westbury United Methodist Church and she was an avid traveler.

Patricia Ann "Patty" Krummrey
Died: Monday, January 3, 2000
Patricia Ann Patty Krummrey, 67, McGuffey, died Jan. 3, 2000 at her residence.
She was born April 8, 1932 in McGuffey, to Frank and Cleo (Wies) Winegardner. On Nov. 16, 1950, she married Alfred Lee Krummrey, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Debra) Krummrey of Alger, and Duane (Treena) Krummrey of McGuffey; one daughter, Dawn (Bob) Bischoff of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Nicky Krummrey, Matt Warren, Nikki and Pam Bischoff, Amber (Aaron) Brown, Drake, Michael and Wesley Krummrey and Mindy Bischoff; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Luke Brown; two brothers, Russell (Joan) Winegardner of Kenton, and Bill Combs of McGuffey; four sisters, Shirley (Ron) Dearth and Sherry (Charlie) Dunson, both of Ada, Diane (Ben) Berry of Kenton and Rhonda (Jerry) Spradlin of Roundhead; and several close nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Randall Lee Krummrey; and two sisters, June Allen and Norma J. Winegardner.
Mrs. Krummrey retired in 1994 from Wilson's Sporting Goods where she was president of the AFL-CIO Textile Workers Union for several years. She was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christ in McGuffey.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger, with Pastor Scot Caley officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and until time of service at the funeral home in Alger on Thursday.

Waldo J. "Wally" Long
Died: Sunday, January 2, 2000
Waldo J. Wally Long, 79, Lafayette, died Jan. 2, 2000 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 23, 1920, in Hardin County, to Clarence Pete and Agnes (Long) Long. On Oct. 28, 1942, he married Mary Jeanette Guthrie, and she preceded him in death on July 9, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Deb (Gary) Richardson of Harrod; three grandchildren, Stacy Richardson of Columbus, Brian and Michele Richardson and Nick and Jammie Richardson, all of Harrod; seven great-grandchildren, Kyley, Courtney, Shelby, James, Tanner, London, and Kayne Richardson; and one sister, Betty Holland of Corona, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nanette Barbara Long; a brother, Dwight Long and a stepmother, Lola Long.
Mr. Long was a car salesman for White Chevrolet, and Lima and Conner Olds, where he was a general manager for several years. He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Ada VFW Post 9381, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates #8 of Lima (FOPA).
Services will begin at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 5 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor David Thompson officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Ada.
Visiting will be held at the funeral home until time of services.
Memorials may be made to the West Ohio Kidney Foundation or Lafayette-Jackson Rescue Squad.
Ira Howard
Died: Friday, December 31, 1999
Ira Howard, 87, Alger, died Dec. 31, 1999 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Jan. 27, 1912, in Floyd County, Ky., to Wild and Minnie (Manns) Howard. On Feb. 25, 1931, he married Ezza Allen and she died May 27, 1986. On March 20, 1988, he then married Ollie (Gibson) Crowe, and she survives in Alger.
Survivors also include five sons, Edd (Beatrice) Howard and Hayden Howard, both of Alger, Dayton (Dolores) Howard of Lima, Robert (Judy) Howard of Lakeview, and Ronnie (Sandra) Howard of Forest; two daughters, Myrtle Johns of Waynesfield, and Virgie (Hager) Lafferty of Alger; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charlie (Mary Rose) Howard of McGuffey, Tommy Howard of Florida, and Jimmy Howard of Tennessee; and one sister, Nellie Howard of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dallas Howard, and a grandson, Stevie Howard.
Mr. Howard retired after 30 years from the Pennsylvania Railroad where he was a machine operator. He was a member of the Auglaize United Baptist Church, Maysville.
Services were held the morning of Jan. 5 at Auglaize United Baptist Church, Maysville, with the Rev. Russell Manns and Rev. Willie Collins officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Margaret Lusk
Died: Thursday, December 30, 1999
Margaret Lusk, 76, Harrod, died Dec. 30, 1999 at her residence.
She was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Van Wert to Phillip F. and Susie (Douglas) Lee. On Nov. 16, 1946, she married Harold E. Lusk, and he died on Jan. 23, 1991.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Stoermer of Harrod, Peggy (Jerry) Patton of Columbus Grove, and Patty (Doug) Reed of Lima, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother,Rev. Charles (Theresa) Lee of Omaha, Neb., and one sister Ruth Jennings of Lima.
She was preceded in death by three brothers Paul, Earl Pete and Baccle Lee; and one sister Susan McKinley.
Mrs. Lusk was a homemaker and farmerette. She was a member of the Heidelburg Church of Lima, Lafayette Chapter #121 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Lima B.P.O.E. Elks. She was also a past volunteer at Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Services were held Jan. 4 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada, with Pastor David Thompson officiating. Burial was held at Fairmont Cemetery in Waynesfield.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Alice Mary (June) Lloyd
Died: Wednesday, December 29, 1999
Alice Mary (June) Lloyd, 75, Union City, Mich., died Dec. 29, 1999 at Battle Creek Health Center, Battle Creek, Mich.
She was born June 12, 1924, in Lafayette, to Charles W. and Alice L. (Plummer) Greenawalt. On Sept.. 11, 1954, she married Maurice E. Lloyd and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Charles L. Jenkins of Alger; a sister, Ruth I. Kahler of Alger; five grandchildren including Debra Case of Battle Creek, Mich., and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter; two grandchildren; and one sister.
Mrs. Lloyd was the owner and operator of the Tekonsha City Restaurant.
Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha, Mich.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Elsie M. Combs
Died: Saturday, December 25, 1999
Elsie M. Combs, 82, Jackson Center, died Dec. 25, 1999 at her residence.
She was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Lakeville, Ky. to Hamilton and Stella (Carty) Combs.
Survivors include two brothers, Roosevelt (Barbara) Combs of Findlay, and Hamilton (Maxine) Combs of Ada; four sisters, Ethel Hattery of Alger, Mary Neeley of Marshall, Mich., Delma Mullett of Lima, and Thelma Slusser of Jackson Center; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mitchell and Raymond Combs.
Ms. Combs retired after 28 years as an LPN (nurse) at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Mich.
Services were held Dec. 28 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Pastor Scot Caley officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Wilson Memorial Hospital Hospice in Sidney.
John M. Snyder
Died: Saturday, December 25, 1999
John M. Snyder, 91, died Dec. 25, 1999 at Heartland of Indian Lake, Lakeview.
He was born Aug. 26, 1908 in Indianapolis, Ind., to Vattier and Blanche (Bradford) Snyder. On June 13, 1931, he married Marjorie D. Detrick. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1995.
Mr. Snyder retired in 1972 after working for 32 years as a tax consultant for Gates McDonald Company in Columbus, Pittsburgh, Pa., and New York City, N.Y. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1931, with a degree in business administration. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Ada. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, the Masonic Lodge in Pittsburgh, Pa., and a 32 Degree Mason and Shriner. He was long time member of the Lima Beane Barbershop Chorus of Lima, and a senior active member of the Ada Rotary International for several years.
There will be no visitation or services. The body was cremated.

Fred E. Westphal
Died: Saturday, December 25, 1999
Fred E. Westphal, 84, Lafayette, died Dec. 25, 1999 at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.
He was born April 30, 1915, in Stettin, Germany, to Fred Otto and Martha Elizabeth (Schmidt) Westphal. On March 21, 1942, he married Mary Leah Long, and she survives in Lafayette.
Survivors also include a son, William I. (Therese) Westphal of Roswell, Ga.; and two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Westphal, both of Roswell, Ga.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Westphal.
Mr. Westphal worked at the Lima Locomotive as a pattern maker from 1943-1946. He then worked at Lima Armature Works for several years. He retired in 1979 from the Maintenance Department at Ohio Northern University of Ada. He also previously worked in the maintenance department at Manatee Junior College in Bradenton, Fla.
He was a member of the County Line Church of the Brethren, a member of the Jackson Grange and a member of the Pattern Maker Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a 1936 graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School.
Services were held Wednesday morning, Dec. 29, at County Line Church of the Brethren, Harrod, with Pastor Walt Powers officiating. He was buried in Lafayette Cemetery. Graveside military services were conducted by Ada VFW Post 9381.

Ruth Elizabeth Gunn
Died: Friday, December 24, 1999
Ruth Elizabeth Gunn, 82, died Dec. 24, 1999 at Hardin Hills Health Center in Kenton.
She was born Jan. 9, 1917 in Lima to John Madison and Goldie M. (Kilgore) Early. In 1938, she married Garland G. Gunn, and he survives in Ada.
Survivors also include three sons, John Jack (Nancy) Gunn of Kenton, Donald G. (Lin) Gunn of Brookville, Md., and Larry E. Gunn of Lima; one brother, Donald (Rozella) Early of Monroe, Mich.; one sister, Helen Bowers of Lima; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Early.
Mrs. Gunn was a homemaker, also working in food preparation at Ohio Northern University fraternity houses. She was a cook at Hal and Jean's restaurant in Ada.
Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Chaplain Roger Brown officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Madge Moore
Died: Sunday, December 19, 1999
Madge Moore, 87, Kenton, died Dec. 19, 1999 at Baldwin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kenton.
She was born April 1, 1912, in McGoffin County, Ky. to Sam and Cora (Shepherd) Shepherd. On Dec. 11, 1935, she married Robert L. Moore, and he died Aug. 3, 1984.
Survivors include six sons, Hazard (Wilma) Moore and Bill Dennis (Shirley) Moore, both of Belle Center, Otmer (Janice) Moore and Dayers Moore, both of Lima, and Charles (Wanda) Moore and Bob R. Moore, both of Kenton; one stepson, Clarence (Neomi) Moore of Alger; two daughters, Aleen (Don) Davis of Roundhead and Corine (Delmar) Moore of Kenton; two brothers, Merle Shepherd of Warsaw, Ind., and Wilkie (Ada) Shepherd of Belle Center; one sister, Lonnie (Bill) Fraley of Kenton; 31 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Beecher, Mitchell, Hargis and Monroe Shepherd; one stepdaughter, Goldie Moore; and two sisters, Sadie Shepherd and Birdie May Shepherd.
Mrs. Moore was a clerk at the Salvage Store in New Hampshire, Ohio. She also did domestic work and child care for 14 years. She was an avid singer of ballads of the mountains and played the harmonica since early childhood.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with the Rev. James Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.

Audrey M. Hunt
Died: Tuesday, November 30, 1999
Audrey M. Hunt, 93, Lima, died Nov. 30, 1999 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton.
She was born Nov. 28, 1906 in Lafayette to H.R. and Hazel (Heath) Frederick. On Dec. 24, 1925, she married Gerald W. Hunt, and he died Oct. 20, 1993.
Survivors include two brothers, William (Ruth) Frederick of N. Canton, and Bob (Mary) Frederick of Dunkirk; two sisters, Maxine Williams of Fairborn, and Betty Amstutz of Kenton; numerous nieces and nephews; and a caregiver, Opal Harvey of Harrod.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Frederick, William Kahler and Gene Frederick; and three sisters, Thelma Sherman, Janice Mankey and infant Patricia Frederick.
Mrs. Hunt was a coach designer at Superior Coach, Sheller Globe Division in Lima. Later she worked as a nurse's aide at Lima Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Lima. She was a member of Dola Presbyterian Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Trinity chapter, and attended Dola High School.
Services were held Dec. 4 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Mr. Thomas Gossel officiating. Burial was in Dola Cemetery.

Robert L. "Bob" Swart
Died: Sunday, November 28, 1999
Robert L. Bob Swart, 68, Painesville Twp., formerly of Ada, died Nov. 28, 1999 at LakeMed Nursing Home in Painesville Twp.
He was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y. He married Marilyn Whitford and they were married 50 years. She survives in Painesville Twp.
Survivors also include three daughters, Marcia Swart of Perry, Gayle (James) George of Mentor, and Cynthia (Randy) Campbell of Bedford; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher) Kovac of Eastlake, Stephanie Cowper of Mentor, Nicole Baldauf of Euclid, and Grace Campbell of Bedford; one sister Rita (Daniel) Nelson of Jamestown, N.Y.; and one nephew, Ronald Nelson of Chicago, Il.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Swart.
Mr. Swart was a Professional Engineer and engineering consultant. He was an engineering professor at Cleveland State University, Case Western Reserve University, Purdue University and Ohio Northern University. He was previously employed by Performed Line Products and Gould of Cleveland. He was a member of IEEE, ASME and SAE. He was a graduate of Purdue University in 1953, Case Western Reserve University in 1956 and Cleveland State University. He obtained a master's degrees in engineering mechanics and structural engineering. He was an active member of Perry United Methodist Church. He volunteered for the Perry Center and was a volunteer reader during story hour at Perry Elementary School. He also initiated the Community Dinner Program at Masters Church.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 3 at Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. 3rd St., Jamestown, N.Y.
Interment
will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, N.Y.
