Warren "Buck" Staley
Died: Saturday, May 4, 2002
Warren "Buck" Staley, 86, of Lafayette, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.
He was born February 26, 1916 in Jackson Township, Allen County, to George and Edith (Ackerman) Staley.
On July 4, 1939 he married Leah Hall, and she survives in Lafayette.
Other survivors include a son, Byron (Jane) Staley of Lima; a daughter, Anita (Joe) Fetter of Waynesfield; a brother, Russell (Winifred) Staley of Lafayette; a sister, Iona (Richard) Fisher of Lima; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Albert Staley, Eugene Staley, Richard Staley and Brice "Bud" Staley; and five sisters: Shirley Reichenbaugh, Laura Hirneise, Agnes Black, Marcille "Tood" Coon, and Ilma Rudy.
Mr. Staley retired in 1978 from Teledyne Ohio Steel Company of Lima, where he was a tool grinder for 27 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lafayette. He was also a member of the Lafayette Senior Group.
Services were held on Tuesday, May 7, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Chaplain David Gerber and Rev. Mickey Kimball officiating.
Burial was in Liberty Chapel Cemetery, Lafayette.

Gerald "Jerry" R. Motter
Died: Monday, April 29, 2002
Gerald "Jerry" R. Motter, 76, died April 29, 2002 at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.
He was born October 30, 1925 in Lima, to Andrew R. and Osa E. (Hamilton) Motter.
On January 21, 1948, he married Pauline M. Binkley, who survives in Lima.
Other survivors include three daughters: Cathy M. (Bruce) Miller of Hilliard, Debbi S. (Greek) Czeto of Lima and Jeri Renee (Chuck) Cunningham of Lima; and five grandchildren: Andy and Sara Miller, Jessica Czeto, Brittany and Nick Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Errett R. Motter and a sister, Gladys L. Harmony.
Mr. Motter was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served with the Occupation Forces in Japan in WWII.
He retired in 1982 as a furniture salesman with Dean Griffin & Sons after 32 years. He was the previous secretary to the president of Westinghouse Corp. and was also a self-employed woodworking contractor.
He formerly attended the Ada First United Methodist Church and was a member of the BPOE #54. He was a past President of the Exchange Club, and bowled for the Elks Bowling League. He was an avid golfer with the Springbrook Seniors golfing league and was a member of the American Legion #96.
Services were held on Friday, May 3 at Chiles & Sons-Laman Shawnee Chapel with Chaplain Dick Coon officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Chapel.

Wilbur Henry Weihrauch

Wilber Henry Weihrauch, 74, of rural Dunkirk, died Monday, April 29, 2002 at the emergency room of Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay.
He was born July 31, 1927 in Washington Township, Hardin County, to Peter and Elvina (Arras) Weihrauch, both of whom are deceased.
On September 3, 1950 he married Barbara E. Shadley in Ada, and she survives in rural Dunkirk.
Other survivors include two sons: Steven E. Weihrauch of rural Jenera and David E. Weihrauch of rural Jenera; three daughters: Lois E. (Howard W.) Achey of Bancroft, Mich., Jane A. (Mark N.) Boehm of rural Rawson, and Beth L. (William B.) Hull of Kenton; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn E. (Gerald) Redick of Jenera; and a half-sister, Loretta Wolber of Arlington.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Weihrauch and a half-brother, Woodrow Rausch.
Mr. Weihrauch retired from Lima Ford Engine Plant, Lima, in 1989 after 30 years of service. He was also a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, and served on the church council. He was also a member of Builders for Christ.
Services were held Friday, May 3 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, with Rev. Alois Schmitzer III and Rev. Philip Henning officiating.
Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Jenera.
Funeral home in charge of arrangements was Crates Funeral Home of Arlington.

Inise C. Lawrence

Inise C. Lawrence, 80, of Alger, died Saturday, April 27, 2002 at her residence in Alger.
She was born January 27, 1922 in Auglaize County, to Herman and Elsie (Bayliff) Lee, both of whom are deceased.
On August 7, 1939, she married Howard L. Lawrence, and he died on December 4, 1985.
Survivors include five sons: Lee (Sharon ) Lawrence of Alger, David (Glenda) Lawrence of Alger, John (Jill) Lawrence of Alger, Wink (Dolly ) Lawrence of Alger, and Ron Lawrence of Findlay; five daughters: Carolyn (Michael) Schaffner of Naples, Florida, Kay Sanders of Alger, Patty (Michael) Lenhart of Ada, Genny (Hank) Manns of Aurora, Colorado, and Shirley (Michael) Ingham of Haverhill, Massachusetts; two brothers: John Lee of Waynesfield and Donald Lee of Sun City, Arizona; a sister, Louise Motter of Cridersville; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lawrence; a brother, Virgil Lee; and two sisters: Lois Orchard and Lana Cox.
Mrs. Lawrence was a homemaker and mother. She retired as a custodian from the Upper Scioto Valley Schools.
She was formerly a member of the Calvary Tabernacle. She answered the Alger Fire and Rescue Squad Telephone in her home for 17 years. She was a member of the Alger Women's Fire Auxiliary.
Services were held Tuesday, April 30 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Rev. Donald Morris officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Edmund "Pat" Taylor

Edmond "Pat" Taylor, 70, of McGuffey, died Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima.
He was born August 29, 1931 in Watts, Oklahoma, to Jerry Lee and Virginia (Smith) Taylor, both of whom are deceased.
On May 6, 1955, he married Laudie Collins, who survives in McGuffey.
Other survivors include a son, Donald (Sherry) Taylor of McGuffey; a grandson, Christopher Taylor of McGuffey; three brothers: James (Eulene) Taylor of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Jerry (Irene) Taylor of Westville, Oklahoma, and John (Vicki) Taylor of Watts, Oklahoma; and four sisters: Carman (Richard) Wilcox of Montrose, California, Kathryn (Leon) Frazier of Watts, Oklahoma, Iva Jane Oxford of Teleguah, Oklahoma, and Margaret Crews of Kansas City, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Bonnie Taylor and Rusty Taylor; and a brother, Frank Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was retired from the United States Army in March of 1973 after 21 years. He was a member of the Ada Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9381. He was also a member of the McGuffey Conservation Club.
Services were held Tuesday, April 30 at Auglaize United Baptist Church of Maysville, with Rev. Russell Manns and Rev. Willie Collins officiating.
Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Dwain Gossard

Dwain Gossard, 90, of Lima, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at his residence.
He was born February 12, 1912 in Waynesfield, to Arthur and Lucy (Shaver) Gossard, both of whom are deceased.
Survivors include a daughter, Dawn (James) Epley of Ada; a brother, Donald Gossard of Belle Center; two sisters: Juanita Amweg of Kenton and Wilma Hopkinson of Bradner; four grandchildren: Angela (Kevin) Roeder, Lori (Vance) Stemen, Tammy (Tony) Luchini, and Stacy Merritt; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by spouse 1: Martha Henders, who died in March of 1962; spouse 2: Agnes German, who died in August of 1973; spouse 3: Mary I. Smith, who died in July of 1996; and two brothers: Derwin and Dwight Gossard.
Mr. Gossard was the owner of Gossard Tire Service until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church, the American Legion #96, and the VFW Post #1275. He was a veteran of the US Army, and served in WWII.
Services were held on Monday, April 29 at Chiles & Sons-Laman Shawnee Chapel with Rev. Douglas Adams officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

Helen S. Baker, 92, of Ada, died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Heatherdowns Rehabilitation & Residential Care Center in Toledo.
She was born October 25, 1909 in Jenera, to Jesse and Maggie (Houdeshell) Smith.
On March 10, 1928, she married Daryl E. Baker, and he died on January 15, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Edward (Shirley) Baker of Irvine, California; five grandchildren: Thomas (Sue) Stanley of Genoa, Ohio, Cynthia (Joseph) Licata of Sylvania, David (Harriet) Baker of Encinitas, California, Diane Baker of Irvine, California, and Jeffrey (Paula) Baker of Huntington Beach, California; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Ann Miller; a sister, Mary Jane McCoy; and a brother, Eugene H. Smith.
Helen and Daryl owned and operated Baker's Hardware in Ada from 1949 until their retirement in 1979.
She was a resident of the Care Center since 1997. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada. She was a graduate of Rawson High School in Rawson.
Services were held Wednesday, April 24 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Rev. Wayne Albertson officiating.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada.

Edna Hall

Edna Hall, 78, Kenton, died Oct. 15, 1999 at her residence.
She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Kentucky to Lacy and Mollie (Mann) Mann. In 1948, she married Lee Hall, and he preceded her in death in 1981.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Hensley of Alger, Herbert (Judy) Hensley of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Steve (Jean) Hall of Kenton; two daughters, Ida Mae (Larry) Steele of Kenton and Sharon Kay (Larry) McConnell of Urbana; two stepdaughters, Gladys Puckett of Warsaw, Ind. and Catherine Hall of Lima; one brother, Hearl (Emma) Mann of Alger; four sisters, Ethel Nichols of Kenton, Cleda (Warren) Dysert of Alger, Ruby Rose of Alger and Dorothy Beverly of Kenton; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Hensley; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; a brother, Herman Mann; and a stepdaughter, Dolly Ervin.
Mrs. Hall was a homemaker and she was a member of the House of Prayer in Kenton.
Services were held Oct. 18 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Burial was in Preston Cemetery.
James R. Sroufe
Died: Friday, October 15, 1999
A memorial service for James R. Sroufe, 62, Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Kenton, was held Oct. 15 at the Daytona Beach Christian Church, with the Rev. Ed Beute officiating. His body was cremated by Halifax Cremation Society.
A graveside military service will be held at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.
He was born in Lima to Ida and Clarence Sroufe. In 1978, he married Christine Salyers Holland, who survives.
Survivors also include local resident, daughter, Donna (Greg) Roberts of Ada.
Mr. Sroufe was a veteran of the Marine Corps and was employed by Daytona Beach Community College. He was a member of the Eagles, AMVETS and American Legion.

Maredia Allen Wright

Maredia Allen Wright, 67, Ada, died Oct. 15, 1999 at Lima Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lima.
She was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Royalton, Ky., to Andrew and Teda (Marshall) Allen. Her mother died in 1956. Her father and stepmother, Lillian (Holbrook) Allen survive in Lima. On Aug. 4, 1951, she married Cecil Wright and he survives in Ada.
Survivors also include two brothers, Warnie Allen of McGuffey, and Timothy S. Tim Allen of Lima; three sisters, Roberta (Ezra) Moore of Lima, Brenda (Thomas) Keller of Lima, and Catherine Cathy Burton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and nine nieces and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Darvin D. Wright in 1987 and sister, Barbara Allen in 1945.
Mrs. Wright was a private duty nurse aide who worked also at the Hardin County Home and for Ada Nursing Home. She was a member of the Auglaize United Baptist Church of Maysville. She attended McGuffey High School.
Services were held Oct. 18 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with pastors Russell Manns and Willie Collins officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Howard Lawrence Conrad

Howard Lawrence Conrad, 81, Rimer, died Oct. 13, 1999 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Cairo to Harmon Lester and Anna Bloom Conrad. He married Mary Jane Bowersock, who survives.
Survivors also include an area resident, daughter Cathy (Errol) Eley of Ada.
Mr. Conrad was a farmer. He was a life member of American Legion Post 715, Fort Jennings, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Services were held Oct. 16 at Harter and Son Memorial Chapel, Delphos. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos.

Lulu Belle Gasser

Lulu Belle Gasser, 68, Ottoville, died Oct. 13, 1999 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Venedocia to William and Easter Hickle Eutsler. On Feb. 16, 1957, she married Eugene S. Red Gasser, who survives.
Survivors also include area resident, brother, Art Eutsler of Harrod.
Mrs. Gasser was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 16 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Sylvan Obergefell officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville.
Neil W. Sutherland
Died: Wednesday, October 13, 1999
Neil W. Sutherland, 72, Kenton, died Oct. 13, 1999 at Winebrenner Village in Findlay.
He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Hardin County to Harold and Ruth (Woodard) Sutherland. On Aug. 28, 1949, he married Imogene Runser, who survives.
Survivors also include area resident, sister Elinor (Donald) Powell of Ada.
Mr. Sutherland was a retired farmer and a member of the First Christian Church in Kenton, the Elks Lodge 157, the Farm Bureau and the Farm Bureau Council. He was also a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy and he was a former 4-H adviser and a former member of the Wolf Creek Grange.
Services were held Oct. 16 at Schindewolf-Stevens-Stout Funeral Home by Pastor Mark Davis. Burial with military services followed in Grove Cemetery in Kenton.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Winebrenner Alzheimer Unit in Findlay.
Rosemary C. Fultz
Died: Monday, October 11, 1999
Rosemary C. Fultz, 79, Lima, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Plus Health Care Center Lima, Ohio.
She was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Wapakoneta to Ben and Clara Borges Horman. She married Donald E. Fultz Sr., who is deceased.
Survivors include one son Donald E. (Cathy) Fultz Jr. of Lima; two brothers, Edward C. (Maxine) Horman of Wapakoneta and Bernard (Ann) Homan of Hot Springs, Ark.; one sister, Mary Katherine Owens of Orlando, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Fritz Horman and a sister, Bernadine Horman.
Mrs. Fultz had been a cook at Allen Inn. She attended Grace Gospel Church in Ada.
Services were held this morning at Siferd Westwood Chapel with Pastor Dan Reed officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima.

Betty F. Risner
Died: Monday, October 11, 1999
Betty F. Risner, 60, Lima, formerly of Kenton, died Oct. 11, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 9, 1939 in Alger to James and Stella (Howard) Stone.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Nancy) Risner of Fremont, and Greg Risner of Lima; two grandchildren, Joy and Ricky Risner; one brother, Larry (Martha) Davis of Conroc, Texas; five sisters, Imogene (Bill) Pack of Washington, Jeri Sparks of Kenton, Nora (Michael) Giovinazzo of Bluffton, Barbara (Mark) Evenson of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Mary Jane Allen of Jackson, Mich.; and over 100 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James Jr., Homer and Seward Stone; and one sister, Maxine Collins.
Ms. Risner taught for several years at Upper Scioto Valley Junior High School. She attended Port Clinton Pentecostal Church of God.
A memorial service was held Oct. 16 at Sunrise Foursquare Church, Findlay, with the Rev. Wayne Baldridge officiating. The body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Port Clinton Pentecostal Church of God.

Richard V. Willeke
Died: Friday, October 8, 1999
Richard V. Willeke, 89, Dola, died Oct. 8, 1999, at Hardin Hills Health Center.
He was born Feb. 8, 1910, to Lawrence and Iva Dirmeyer Willeke. In 1932, he married Ida Affeld, who died in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Harold (Connee) of Dola, Rev. Rodney (Marjorie) of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Richard D. of Traverse City, Mich.; one sister Marguerite Ault of Dola; one brother, Kenneth of Dola; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Willeke graduated from Dola High School in 1927 and he was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Dola and had served on church council. He was a Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir for many years. He was also a former member and past president of Dola School Board.
Services were held Oct. 10 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dola by Pastor Hap Hasenauer. Burial was in Dola Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Dola or Hardin Hospice Care.
Daniel James Reini
Died: Wednesday, October 6, 1999
Daniel James Reini, infant son of Eric W. and Diana L. Thompson Reini of Delaware, was stillborn Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999 at Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware.
In addition to his parents, who are members of the faculty at the Delaware Christian School, Daniel is also survived by maternal grandparents Robert and Cynthia Thompson of Jackson, Tenn.; paternal grandparents George and Janet Reini of Ada; maternal great-grandparents Ira Thompson of Columbus and Lowell and Betty Nicodemus of Pickerington; paternal great-grandparents, Charlotte Reini of Ada and Margaret Ruby of Issaquah, Wash.; and aunts and uncles.
A private burial service was held for the family at Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware, on Oct. 9.
DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Harriett Lucille Cheney
Died: Tuesday, October 5, 1999
Harriett Lucille Cheney, 69, Dunkirk, died Oct. 5, 1999, at Hardin Memerial Hospital.
She was born May 24, 1930 to Frank and Doris Miller Winegardner. On June 11, 1949, she married Kenneth Van Scoy, who died in 1962. On Feb. 14, 1964, she married Brice D. Cheney, who died Jan. 4, 1993.
Survivors include one son, Bryan (Marilyn) Van Scoy of Bluffton; five daughters Phyllis (Kenneth) Hopson and Marty (Randall) Preston, both of Dunkirk, Rachel (Don) Tidd of Ada, Pauline Coldren, both of Kenton; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson.
Mrs. Cheney was a member of High street Freewill Baptist Church of Ada.
Services were held Oct. 7 at the High Street Freewill Baptist Church in Ada with the Pastor James K. Webb officiating. Burial followed at the Dola Cemetery, however, there were no graveside services at her request.
Elbert E. Bickle
Died: Monday, October 4, 1999
Elbert E. Bickle, 65, Newnan, Ga., died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 12, 1934 in Rose Lake, Wash. to William and Elsie (Collins) Bickle. He married and divorced Lona Dabe, who survives in Russells Point.
Survivors also include, four sons Michael, Wes and Dana of Kenton and Damon of Dunkirk; two daughters Sherry (Tom) Newland and Elania (Matt) Dicus, both of Kenton; 18 grandchildren; four brothers Calvert and Willis of Pasco, Wash., David of Spokane, Wash., and Billy of Lewiston, Wash.; and three sisters Lola Phar of LaGrange, Idaho, Mary Davis of Portland, Ore. and Bonnie Fitzsimmons of Mill Creek, Wash.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Delbert.
Mr. Bickle was a life member of the Ada VFW Post 9381 and a member of Orioles Fraternal Order, Lima.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 11 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Graveside military honors were conducted by Ada VFW Post 9381.
Gary E. Dunson Sr.
Died: Sunday, October 3, 1999
Gary E. Dunson Sr., 59, McGuffey, died Oct. 3, 1999 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.
He was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Foraker to Ralph Calvin and Ethel Evelyn Miller Dunson. On Oct. 1, 1960, he married Shirley Marshall, who survives.
Survivors also include a son, John (Trina) Dunson of Kenton; two daughters, Zora (Paul) Bailey and Evelyn (Timothy) Bailey, both of McGuffey; three brothers, Ralph Dunson of Forest and John A. Dunson and Clifford Dunson, both of Kenton; four sisters, Clara Mae Mulholland, Edith Denny, Evelyn Dunson and Linda Bolen, all of Kenton; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, three brothers and a sister.
Mr. Dunson retired as a machinist from the Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He was a life member of AMVETS Post 20, Kenton; the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an Army veteran, who had served in Korea.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, Kenton, with the Rev. Karew Manns officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
