Angeline Hume
Died: Monday, August 16, 1999
Angeline Hume, 82, Lima, died Aug. 16, 1999 at her daughter's residence.
She was born Jan. 29, 1917, in Lima, to Angelo and Ignatia (Alonsba) Brunette. On April 9, 1949, she married Andrew D. Hume, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1976.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosemary Gipson of McGuffey, Theresa (Donald) Routson of Ada, and Linda Hadding of Lima; one sister, Leela Mauri of Lima; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Albert and Eugene Beam; two brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Hume was a retired machine operator working at Westinghouse Electric in Lima.
Private services have been held.
Arrangements were made by Bayliff and Son Funeral Home.
Monroe Shepherd
Died: Monday, August 16, 1999
Monroe Shepherd, 72, Kenton, died Aug. 16, 1999 at Baldwin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kenton.
He was born Dec. 6, 1926 in Magoffin County, Ky., to Sam and Cora (Shepherd) Shepherd. Companion and mother of his children, Audrey Shepherd, died in October of 1986.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Shepherd and Sam Shepherd, both of Antwerp; three daughters, Cora Evans of Oakwood, Patricia Pat Sutton of Hicksville and Kathy Lowe of Grabill, Ind.; five stepdaughters, Ethel Handshoe of Hueysville, Ky., Barbara Hull of Cecil, Martha Shepherd and Shirley McMichael, both of Antwerp, and Cynthia Howard of Salyersville, Ky.; two brothers, Merle Shepherd and Wilkie Shepherd of Belle Center; two sisters, Madge Moore and Lonna Fraley, both of Kenton; 11 grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Beecher, Mitchell, Chandler and Hargis Shepherd; and three sisters, Sadie, Myrtle and Birdie Mae Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd was retired from the construction business where he worked many years.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with the Rev. Lewis Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Roundhead Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday 2 and 6 p.m. and until time of the services at the funeral home in Alger on Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Hardin County Cancer Society.
Waldo Clark Stober
Died: Monday, August 16, 1999
Waldo Clark Stober, 78, Pennsylvania, formerly of Ada, died Aug. 16, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Ada, to Arthur and Mila Stober. He lived in Lower Frederick, Pa., He was formerly a Shiloh resident.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Meck Stober; a daughter, Karen Kay (William) Krupp; a son, Kevin Clark (Patricia) Stober; a sister, Grace Dawson of Plymouth; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Doyt Stober.
Mr. Stober was a service technician at Sears and Roebuck in Pottstown, Pa., for 33 years. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard in World War II where he was a motor machinist's mate first class. He was a long time member of Heidelberg U.C.C. of Schwenksville. Other memberships include the American Legion Post 203 of Schwenksville, a 32nd degree Mason with Shiloh Lodge of Ohio, and a member of Lehigh Consistory. In addition, he was a member of the Family Motorhome Club of America, the Pikeville Rod and Gun Club, the lower Frederick Fire Company and a 50-year member of the Schwenksville Fire Company. His hobby was collecting old farm tractors.
Visitation and services were held at Williams Funeral Home in Worcester, Pa. The Rev. David Clemens officiated. Burial was in the Schwenksville, Pa., Cemetery.
Harriet A. Bowdle
Died: Sunday, August 15, 1999
Harriet A. Bowdle, 92, Waynesfield, died Aug. 15, 1999 at Richland Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 24, 1906, in Lima to George and Zelpha Stoner Muntis. On Aug. 29, 1928, she married John T. Bowdle, who died June 9, 1970.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including James Long of Ada and Theresa Kramer.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Tschanz and Margaret Long.
There will be no services. The body has been cremated.

Ellsworth P. Kohli
Died: Sunday, August 15, 1999
Ellsworth P. Kohli, 85, Beaverdam, died Aug. 15, 1999 at Richland Manor in Beaverdam.
He was born July 1, 1914 in Lima to Theodore and Lena (Swick) Kohli. On Feb. 18, 1939 he married Ruth I. Elwood and she survives in Lima.
Survivors also include two sons, Ellsworth (Paula) Kohli Jr. of Canada and Ronald (Judy) Kohli of Alger; two daughters, Lena (Ivan) Verhoff of Columbus Grove and Linda (Craig) Rone of Lima; 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, six brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Kohli was a retired farmer and Brown Swiss dairyman.
Services will be held today, Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Ottawa, with the Rev. Gary Hohman officiating. Burial will be in Rockport Cemetery in Rockport, Ohio.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home in Ottawa.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary E. (Plaugher) Klingler
Died: Friday, August 13, 1999
Mary E. (Plaugher) Klingler, 97, Harrod, died Aug. 13, 1999 at Lima Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1902, in Allen County to Peter Calvin and Zora Lee (Gibb) Plaugher. On Sept. 25, 1920, she married J. Weldon Klingler, and he died June 28, 1994.
Survivors include one son, Donald P. Klingler of Harrod; one daughter, Joan (Charles) Coates of New Hampshire, Ohio; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Calvin E. Klingler; two brothers, Orvin Dale Plaugher and Odie K. Plaugher; and two sisters, Velma Burden and Audra Hall.
Mrs. Klingler was a cafeteria manager with Auglaize Township Local Schools. She had previously worked for Westinghouse Corp. She was a member of the Happy Hour Club, Blue Star Mothers, the Farm Bureau Council and the East Elm Street Church of the Brethren.
Services were held Aug. 17 at Lewis Chapel of Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Home, with the Revs. Wesley and Sue Richard officiating. Burial was in Salem Westminster Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the East Elm Street Church of the Brethren or the Harrod Rescue Squad.
Jerry L. Stanfield
Died: Friday, August 13, 1999
Jerry L. Stanfield, 56, Findlay, died Aug. 13, 1999 at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
He was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Tiffin, to Lloyd and Myrtle (Smith) Stanfield. His mother survives in Findlay. On Nov. 26, 1969, he married Jill A. Roberts and she survives.
Survivors also include three sons, Robert L. Stanfield, Duane A. Stanfield and Matthew L. Stanfield, all of Ada; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Stanfield was an employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a life member of the Ada V.F.W., a 1963 graduate of Findlay High School. He attended College First Church of God. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam.
Services were held Aug. 16 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with Pastor Clarence Thorton officiating. Burial was in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, Leipsic. Graveside military rites were conducted by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Ruth MacBean Benson
Died: Tuesday, August 10, 1999
Ruth MacBean Benson, 95, formerly of Ada, died Aug. 10, 1999, in Livonia, New York.
She was born Feb. 11, 1904, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to Hector W. and Harriet Carr MacBean. In 1934, she married Gordon K. Benson, Sr., who died in 1979. Upon his death, she moved to Ada where she made her home for 10 years with her son David J. Benson, also formerly of Ada.
Survivors include a daughter, Elinor (Keith) Tyler of Livonia, N.Y.; two sons, Peter (Sydney) Benson of Medina and David (Dena) Benson of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gordon K. Benson, Jr., and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Benson graduated from Syracuse University and served for many years as the secretary of the United Church of Canandaigua, N.Y. While in Ada, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ada Branch of the American Association of University Women.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Kennedy and Sons Funeral Home, Canandaigua, N.Y. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua.
Marvin Burton
Died: Tuesday, August 10, 1999
Marvin Burton, 73, Kenton, died Aug. 10, 1999 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton.
He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Magoffin County, Ky., to Kelly and Eva (Holiday) Burton.
Survivors include a half brother, Garland (Carol) Cornwell of Kenton, a stepbrother, Chalmer (Gaye) Holliday of Hepburn; a sister-in-law, Shirley Burton of Kenton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepfather, Lewis Cornwell and a brother, Lawrence Eugene Burton.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Friends may call 2 and 6 p.m. on Friday, and until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton.
Lillian P. Shafer

Lillian P. Shafer, 80, Lafayette, died Aug. 10, 1999 at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.
She was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Springfield, Mass., to George W. and Lillian A. McCalligott Kimmel.
Survivors include three sons, Paul J. (Samantha) Shafer Jr. of Ottawa, Phillip G. (Cathy) Shafer of Lima and Christopher L. (Lucinda) Shafer of Lafayette; three daughters, Julienne (Roland John) Burkhart of Pandora, Melissa K. Shafer Jennison of Lima and Rebecca Jane (Kevin) Plaugher of Harrod; a brother, William R. Kimmel of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Leslie Kimmel.
Ms. Shafer was a live-in nurse's aide. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette, and was a volunteer at Lima Memorial Hospital for several years.
Services were held Aug. 13 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lafayette, with the Rev. Ronald Diemer officiating. Burial was in Fisher Cemetery, Lafayette.

Wava Lucille Davis
Died: Monday, August 9, 1999
Wava Lucille Davis, 89, Harrod, died Aug. 9, 1999 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 27, 1910, in Harrod, to John D. and Mazie Metzger Lowry.
Survivors include one brother, Edward Gene (Pamela) Lowry of Harrod; one sister, Ilene Bond of Harrod; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vaneta Sneary.
Ms. Davis was a machine operator with Buckeye Rubber Company. She was previously with Art Craft.
She was a member of the Westminster United Church of Christ, the Senior Citizens Craft Class and a former member of Eagles Auxiliary.
Services will be begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 at Chiles and Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel, with the Rev. Sandra Leichty officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Westminster.
Friends may call 2 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Howard Baughman
Died: Sunday, August 8, 1999
Howard Baughman, 80, Kenton, died Aug. 8, 1999, at the Corinthian Nursing Facility in Kenton.
He was born May 17, 1919, in Ada, to Sherman and Bessie (Smith) Baughman. On Dec. 9, 1950, he married Ruth K. Frazier who preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1991.
Survivors include one son, Michael (Gloria) of Kenton; one daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Marquis of Kenton; two brothers, Ralph (Gladys) of Kenton and Earl (Gertrude) of Ada; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, four sisters and one infant son.
Mr. Baughman was the former owner of Baughman Greenhouse. He was a 1937 graduate of Ada High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenton and a member of the VFW Post 3333. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
Services were held this morning, Aug. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Kenton with the Rev. George Pirtle officiating. Burial with military services followed at Roundhead Cemetery.
Eulia M. Spencer
Died: Tuesday, August 3, 1999
Eulia M. Spencer, 38, Dunkirk, died Aug. 3, 1999 at her residence.
She was born Feb. 24, 1961, in Lima to Clem and Lucille Elwood Curtis. On Aug. 13, 1992, she married Jonathan John Spencer, who survives in Dunkirk.
Survivors also include five sons, Curtis Bennett, Dennis Augsberger, Mike Augsberger and Santana Sky Spencer, all of Dunkirk, and Dustin Lee Spencer of Lima; a brother, Kenneth Curtis of Wharton; and three sisters, Debra Lawrence of Dunkirk, and Lucilea Myers and Sandy Myers, both of Ada.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael.
Mrs. Spencer had worked at Community Action Commission, Findlay. She was a member of Assembly of God Church, Dunkirk.
Services were held Aug. 6 at Price Funeral Home, Dunkirk, with the Rev. James Gatchell officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Glenn M. "Pete" Morrison
Died: Sunday, August 1, 1999
Glenn M. Pete Morrison, 86, Harrod, died Aug. 1, 1999 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 31, 1912, in Westminster to Charles W. and Grace A. Knief Morrison. On Sept. 20, 1940, he married Olive V. Dawson, who died July 5, 1991.
Survivors include a niece, Linda Peitz of Santa Barbara, Calif., and close friends and care givers, Lorene and Bob Whitaker and Charles Conkle, all of Westminster.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Walter L. and Dale L. Morrison; and a sister, Cara Morrison.
Mr. Morrison retired from Westinghouse Corp. He was co-founder of the Uniopolis Fire Dept.
Services were held Aug. 5 at Lewis Chapel of Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Philip Bell officiating. Burial was in Auglaize Cemetery, Harrod.

Mary Louise Troyer
Died: Saturday, July 31, 1999
Mary Louise Troyer, 75, Elida, died July 31, 1999 at her residence.
She was born April 1, 1924, in Ada, to Elie and Laura Fox McCleary. On March 31, 1946, she married Robert Troyer, and he survives.
Survivors also include one son, Stevan (Susan) Troyer of Elida; three daughters, Joyce (Jay) Daniels of Elida, and Linda (Jim) Showalter and Becky (Dale) Kephart, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Golda (Maynard) Yeasting of Elmore; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Ray, Rush and Glenn McCleary.
Mrs. Troyer was a homemaker and a registered nurse. She was a member of Pike Mennonite Church.
Services were held Aug. 3 at Pike Mennonite Church with the Rev. Mervin Miller officiating. Burial was in Salem Mennonite Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mennonite Board of Missions, the Mennonite Central Committee, or Pike Mennonite Church.
Rev. Robert G. Binkley
Died: Wednesday, July 28, 1999
Word has been received that the Rev. Robert G. Binkley, 79, Coshocton, died July 28, 1999, at this home.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Lima, to Dr. Wilfred E. and Dora (Stotts) Binkley. On Sept. 4, 1943, he married Ruth C. Stager. She survives.
Survivors also include two sons, Philip R. (Debora) Binkley of Strongsville and Joel D. (Sue) Binkley of Pickerington; two daughters, Rebecca (Vernon) Mullett of Defiance and Deborah Grim of Athens; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wendell Binkley of Kent and Ludwell Binkley of Wyoming, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell.
Rev. Binkley was a 1938 graduate of Ada High School; a 1942 graduate of Ohio Northern University in Ada; and a 1945 graduate of Hamma School of Theology in Springfield. He was a Lutheran minster serving Adamsvill, Convoy, Millersburg, Holgate, Newton Falls, and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Coshocton from 1970 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Coshocton.
Services have already been held. Burial was in Roscoe Cemetery.

Thelma N. Frakes
Died: Wednesday, July 28, 1999
Thelma N. Frakes, 91, Alger, died July 28, 1999 at Friendship Village in Columbus. She was born Nov. 19, 1907 in Galena to Harley and Jenny (Whistler) Frakes.
Survivors include care givers, Ralph and Donna Smith Jr. of Plain City, and Ann and Rolland King of Columbus; four nephews, David Hathaway, George (Betty) Hathaway, Harley (Cora Etta) Hathaway and Don (Jenny) Smith; one niece, Rita Day; and a very dear and beloved sister, Alice L. Smith of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Hathaway, a brother, Fred Frakes, and long time companion, Otie Marshall.
Ms. Frakes was retired as a self-employed beautician. She was a graduate of Galena High School.
Services were held July 31 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with the Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating. Burial was in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Artie Francis Conley
Died: Saturday, July 24, 1999
Artie Francis Conley, 70, rural Edon, died July 24, 1999 in the home of her daughter after an extended illness.
She was born October 26, 1928 in Floyd County, Ky., to Joe Earlin and Julie Ann (Justice) Reffitt. On August 8, 1947 she married Johnnie Conley and he preceded her in death in 1992.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose L. (Sam) Winebernner, of Edon, Linda L. (Bud) Stantz, of Edon, and Mindy M. (Bill) Forrester, of Pioneer; one sister, Peachie Pitts, of David, Ky.; a half brother, Henry Reffitt of Dunkirk; a granddaughter, Lorinda S. Patten of Montpelier; nine other grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Conley, and one son, Billy Joe Conley.
Mrs. Conley was a maid at Potawatomi Inn in Angola, Ind., retiring in 1996, and was a former Hardin County resident.
Services were held on July 27 at Krill Funeral Home in Edon with Pastor Joe Everly officiating. Burial was in Edon Cemetery, Edon.
Memorials in the name of Artie F. Conley may be given to the American Cancer Society.
