Susan Irene Mitcham
Susan Irene Mitcham of Buckhead died at her residence on Monday, October 17, 2000.
She was 51.
A native of Putnam County, Mrs. Mitcham was born on September 14, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Dan Trubey Jr. and Mrs. Dorothy Cranford Fuller of Eatonton and she was the wife of Mr. Charles Eugene Mitcham.
The funeral was held Thursday, October 19, 2000 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mitcham is survived by her husband, Mr. Gene Mitcham of Buckhead; her mother, Mrs. Dorothy C. Fuller of Eatonton; two sons, Mr. Gene Mitcham of Social Circle, Ga. and Mr. J. C. Mitcham of Watkinsville, Ga.; four brothers, Mr. Steve Trubey of California, Mr. Danny Trubey of Ohio, Mr. Lenny Truby of Florida and Mr. David Trubey of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Liz Denham of Eatonton, Ga. and Mrs. Teresa Crutchfield of Toomsboro, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Svea Margarete von Hanstein
Svea Margarete von Hanstein, 79, of Madison died Friday, October 29, 2004. She was born in 1925 in Berlin, Germany to the late Count Rabe and Countess Margarete Oeynhausen.
The von Hansteins moved to Madison in 1981 from Bad Driburg, Germany. Mrs. von Hanstein operated the family’s cattle operation, Indian Creek Farm on the Monticello Road in Madison. She was also an expert horsewoman, breeder, competitor in jumping, eventing, dressage and driving. She was a certified Master Gardner and was of the Luthern faith.
Mrs. Von Hanstein is survived by her husband of 44 years, Werner von Hanstein, one son, Philipp von Hanstein and his wife, Shauna of Madison and a daughter, Melanie von Hanstein of London, England, a brother, Casper Count Oeynhausen and one granddaughter, Alexa (Lexie) von Hanstein of Madison.
A reception was held in her memory at Indian Creek Farm at the home of Philipp and Shauna von Hanstein Sunday, October 31 from 3 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Georgia Equine Rescue League, P.O Box 787, Locust Grove, GA 30248.
A.E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Willimaye Stone Hall
Willimaye Hall died October 11, 2004 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. where she had lived since the death of her husband.
She was born in Jollystreet, S.C. on September 5, 1907 to Tullie Ellis Stone and Daisy Margaret Kinard Stone. She was a 1928 graduate of Newberry College and later trained as a nurse at Newberry Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James DeLeon Hall, and an infant daughter, by her parents and by her brother and all of her sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, June Hall McCash, her son-in-law, Richard Douglas Gleaves Jr., two grandsons, Michael Douglas Hall of Washington State and Christopher Brenden Hall of Murfreesboro, Tenn., four great-grandsons, seven step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie Gailey Bell of Buckhead and three nephews, Richard Bell, Clifford Bell and David Bell, all of Buckhead.
Services were held at her church in Murfreesboro and in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Pomaria, S.C. with burial in the church cemetery beside her husband and infant daughter.

Walter Ray Shockley
Walter Ray Shockley, 80, former Sunday Editor of the "Atlanta Journal-Constitution," died at his home November 3, 2004. He was a combat veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Navy stationed aboard the USS St. Louis in the Pacific Theatre, serving as an anti-aircraft gunner. The St. Louis was the first ship to sustain Kamikaze attacks. Know for his qualities of excellence and persistence, he left the AJC in 1956 to become a public relations man for the American Textile Manufacturers Institute. He worked his way up to Executive Vice President, the top staff job, before leaving in 1985. Later he became president of the American Society of Travel Agents and retired in 1990. He and his wife Virginia moved back to Georgia and settled in Winterville just outside of Athens later that year.
The Shockleys were happy to be back in Georgia and busied themselves doing volunteer work. He joined the Athens Chamber of Commerce where he worked until kv1k. A graduate of the University of Georgia Journalism School, Shockley attended all of the Bulldog’s home football games and many of the out-of-town games. He was a life long Rotarian and traveled extensively around the world. He enjoyed gardening and walking their dog, Baron. Following an illness, the Shockleys moved to Atlanta.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Virginia Davis Shockely, their three children, Lisa Shockley Moery of Atlanta, David Wray Shockley of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Jenifer Wray Shockley of New York City; two grandchildren, Sophia Katharine Moery and Phillippa Leye Moery; brothers and sisters, Martha Shockley Kemp, Hugh Harris Shockley Sr., Leonard Henry Shockley, Annette Shockley Riden, Barbara Shockley Smith, John Hattaway Shockley, Peter Saffold Shockley and Joseph Truman Shockley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at Apalachee United Methodist Church in the Apalachee community near Madison. Interment was in Oconee Hill, Athens.
Ray Shockley above all else was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a proud Georgia, a patriotic American and a soldier of God.

David George Karstedt
David Karstedt, 55, died November 7, 2004 in Eden, N.Y. following a long illness. He was born March 9, 1949 to Harold Karstedt and the late Elizabeth Dunst Karstedt in Lackawanna, N.Y.
He graduated from Morrisville College in New York. He was a former dairy farmer in Morgan County and later had his own trucking company.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Agle Karstedt of Watkinsville, four sons, Jason David Karstedt (Lydia) of Columbia, S.C., Nathan Charles, Justin Erin, and Ethan Grant Karstedt of Watkinsville; two daughters, Nichole Marie Karstedt of Watkinsville and Gretchen Elizabeth Hilario (Rawin) of Laguna, Philippines; four grandchildren, his parents, Harold and Hilda Karstedt; two brothers, Kevin (Lucinda) and Gordon (Amy) Karstedt, one sister, Martha Podyma (Jim) and nine nieces and nephews all from Eden, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held on November 13 at Churchill Memorial Church in Boston, N.Y.

Douglas A. Burnett
Douglas A. Burnett, 61, of Monroe, formerly of Covington, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004.
He was born in Jersey on July 19, 1943, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Burnett Jr. and Grace Burnett. He was retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He was affiliated with the Lakewood Division and Shreveport, Louisiana Division.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in the Chapel of Harwell Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Standard officiating. Interment was in Sewell Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Burnett is survived by his mother, Grace Burnett of Jackson; children, Shane and Tonya Burnett of Social Circle and Shey and Russell Daniel of Madison; sisters, Shirley Lee of Covington and Margie Treadwell of Jackson; brothers, Charles Allen of Americus, Clarence Allen of Porterdale, Tony Burnett of Monticello; granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Burnett of Social Circle; several nieces and nephews.
J. C. Harwell & Son were in charge of arrangements.

Toby Powell
Toby Hugh Powell, 77, of Athens, died November 9, 2004.
He was born in Savannah and was the son of the late Frank D. and Lilly Joyner Powell and widower of Polly Gillis Powell.
A longtime resident of Athens, he was a United States Navy veteran and was retired from Williams Hardware in Watkinsville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 13, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home East with Rev. Don Leaptrott and Dr. Tom Elliott officiating. Interment was in Oconee Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by three daughters, Debora Ondracek of Madison, Diane Beaty of Roswell and Jayne Evans of Lexington; sister, Mrs. Moi M. Monroe Jr. of Waycross; brother, Robert Powell of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Ondracek, Brett Beaty, Brandon Beaty, Bradley Beaty, Kathy Evans, Will Evans and Dillon Evans.

Aaron Head
Aaron Head, 53, died November 2, 2004 following a short illness.
He was born May 13, 1951 to the late Coral and Francile Head. He was the youngest of their children.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Cooper Head; two sons, Markus and Dwight; a daughter, Cassandra; son-in-law, Clarence Smith Jr.; two sisters, Pearl and Doris; three brothers-in-law, Sidney Simmons, David Williams and William Sheppard; two brothers, Samuel and Eddie; two sisters-in-law, Prophet Stella Head and Florine Head; mother-in-law, Clara Cooper; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, DeShawn, Branna, Alexia, Demetria, Aaliyah and Arkisha.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 7 at Wallace Grove Baptist Church, Rutledge with Pastor F. D. Clark officiating, assisted by Minister Reginald Williams and Minister Samuel Head Jr. Interment was in Greater Moses Baptist Church Cemetery in Rutledge.
Pallbearers were Sidney Simmons Jr., Kendrick Clark, Terry Simmons, Ray Simmons, Marvin Simmons and Earl Head. Flower girls were Donna Briney, Sandra Smith, Naomi S. Hunter, Mozell Burke, Jannie McGahe and Florine Head.
Mapp-Gilmore Pyramid Funeral Services, LLC was in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine Broach Smith
Geraldine Broach Smith, 65, of Dallas died Tuesday, November 9, 2004.
Mrs. Smith retired from General Electric as a personnel manager and was a member of New Georgia Baptist Church.
Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Friday, November 12 in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home with Rev. James Burdette officiating. Interment was in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Smith of Dallas; mother, Irene Broach of Bostwick; sons, Walter Bailey of Dallas, Jeffery Bailey of Hull and Christopher Smith of Dacula; brothers, Ronnie Broach, Charles Broach and Larry Broach, all of Bostwick; sisters, Ann Britt and Gaynelle Woodall, both of Bostwick, and nine grandchildren.

Joe Early Lietch
Joe Early Lietch, 79, of Buckhead died Friday, November 12, 2004 at Athens Regional Hospital. He was born March 9, 1925 in DeKalb County, the son of the late Willie Guston Lietch and the late Julie Gladys Gibbs Lietch. He was a retired warehouse manager and chef.
Mr. Lietch served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce C. Lietch of Buckhead; two sons and their wives, Larry and Margie Lietch of Lawrenceville and Robin and Joy Lietch of Hoschton; two daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Tony Harris of Social Circle and Sherry and Ross Fuller of Logansville; one step-son, Wayne Atkinson of Greensboro; two step-daughters and their husbands, Wanda and Billy Cantrell of Buckhead and Darlene and Larry Stuckey of Madison; two sisters, Sarah Green of Lilburn and Marie Flynt of Tampa, Fla., 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 13 at Buckhead City Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Shumate officiating
Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Mapp Davis
Mattie Mapp Davis "Ma Brixie", 101, died November 7, 2004. She was born on May 11, 1903 in Morgan County. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Rutlege, where she served on the Mother Board until her health failed.
She was married to Frank Davis Sr. who preceded her in death. Three children preceded her in death, James Walker, Ida Mae and Frank Jr.
Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Mattie B. Davis and Dorothy Davis, both of Rutledge, a son, Arthur Davis of East Point; a sister, Hallie Sims; two daughters-in-law, Betty Davis, Rutledge and Lula Mae Walker of Decatur; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 12, at Macedonia Baptist Church, Rutledge with the Rev. James Hawkins officiating assisted by Rev. F. D. Clark and Rev. Cecil Champion. Interment was in Greater Moses Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church; honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.
Flower girls were mothers of Macedonia Baptist Church; honorary flower girls were her granddaughters.
Mapp-Gilmore Pyramid Funeral Services, LLC was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Daniel Jaskowiak
Robert "Bob" Jaskowiak, 50, of Madison died November 9, 2004. He was born in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late Daniel T. Jaskowiak and Alice Folger Jaskowiak.
He and his wife Lynn moved their family to Madison about 10 years ago. He was a salesman for Thermospas and also served as a substitute teacher. His passion was his work as a volunteer coach. Mr. Jaskowiak volunteered his time with the Morgan County Wrestling team, the soccer and football and baseball teams. He was also coach for the athletic teams of Madison Presbyterian Church. Besides coaching he was a very active member of Madison Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir and ringing in the bell choir. He was also a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity.
Mr. Jaskowiak is survived by his wife, Lynn Bradley Jaskowiak, one son, Dylan Bradley Jaskowiak and one daughter, Alexandra Adair Jaskowiak, all of Madison; his mother, Alice F. Jaskowiak of Warrenton, Virginia; a brother, David Joseph Jaskowiak of Culpeper, Virginia and two sisters, Linda Katherine Urick of Fairfax, Virginia and Rhea Ann Mahrer of Culpeper, Virginia; nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 11, at Madison Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Boggus officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Madison Presbyterian Church or the Morgan County High School Takedown Club.
A.E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Ashley Mitchell
Thomas Ashley Mitchell, 40, of Madison died November 4, 2004 in Augusta. He was born in Fulton County but moved to Madison at a young age and was raised here. He was the son of the late Bill Mitchell and Klellie Eason Mitchell.
After graduating from Morgan County High School Mr. Mitchell joined the United States Air Force. He served four years and went on to become a x-ray technician.
He is survived by his mother, Klellie Mitchell, Madison; a daughter, Ashley Mitchell of Virginia; three brothers, William Mitchell, Ned Mooney and David Mooney; four sisters, Darlene Mitchell, Brenda Mitchell, Karen Mitchell and Dianne Burrows.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. at the Madison Christian Church Saturday, November 6, with Rev. Kevin Mooney and Rev. Dwight Webster officiating. Interment was in the Loganville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Madison Christian Church.

Dorothy Sellers Bruce
Dorothy Sellers Bruce, 81, of Madison died Wednesday, November 17, 2004. She was a resident of Madison Health and Rehabilitation. She was born May 18, 1923 to Bratcher and Esther Morgan Sellers in Jackson County. Her family moved to Morgan County and Mrs. Bruce spent the rest of her life here. She worked as a homemaker and helped operate the family dairy. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Mrs. Bruce was preceded in death by her husband, John Benjamin "J. B." Bruce.
She is survived by three daughters, Faye Sisson of Blue Ridge, Ester Curry of Madison and Effie Powell of Hawaii, five sons, Roger Larry, John and Ben Bruce of Madison and Wayne Bruce of McDonough; a brother, Aubrey Sellers, 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of A.E. Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Tribble and Rev. Tom Duff officiating. Interment was in Bethany Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, Atlanta, GA 30345 or visit them online at www.alzga.org.

Samuel David Hicks
Samuel David Hicks, infant son of Andy and Jennifer Hicks of Madison died November 20, 2004 in Clarke County.
Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, at Brownwood Church Cemetery with the Rev. Calvin Johnson officiating. He is survived by his parents, Andy and Jennifer Hicks of Madison; paternal grandparents, Brad and Pauline Hicks of Madison; paternal great-grandfather, Ned Hicks of Anderson, S.C.; maternal great-grandmother, Frances L. Allen of Madison; maternal great-grandfather, William Kelley of Gainesville, and maternal grandparents, Dewayne and Janet Kelley of Madison. Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lillian (Sis) Davis, 69, died November 18, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. She was born October 7, 1935 to the late Elbert and Georgia Davis.
She is survived by one sister, Lucy D. Harris of Madison, a special niece, Lucy Bell Harris of Madison; three other nieces, Annie Ruth (Beve) Parks of Social Circle, Sylvia (Clifford) Miller and Cheryl D. Harris of Madison; three nephews, Ernest Davis of Madison, Larry Harris of Monroe and Roy lee Harris of Los Angeles, Calif. and special friends, Emmittie Williams, Carolyn Stewart and Lewis Smith; godson, Josh Thomas and godsister, Minnie M. Fitch and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 26 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Hoke L. Smith officiating assisted by Rev. W. J. Reid, Rev. Gazzara Mitchell and Rev. Joseph Williams. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Melvin Wade, James Allen, J. D. Sanders, Lewis Smith, Freddie L. Lewis, David Mathis, Thomas Davis and Larry Carter. Flower ladies were Carolyn Stewart, Virginia Campbell, Willie Ann Albrittian, Angela Daniels, Sara Sawyer and Patricia Brown.
Mapp-Gilmore Pyramid Funeral Services, LLC was in charge of arrangements.
