John Travis Goss, 34, of 1501 Cochran Road, Madison, died at his residence on Tuesday, May 17, 2005. He was born December 28, 1970 in Morgan County the son of Riccardo "Ricky" Goss Sr. and Cathy Booth Goss.
He is survived by a daughter, Sierra Goss of Rockmart; a sister, Angie Goss of Gainesville, a brother, Riccardo Steven Goss Jr. of Eatonton; three nephews, Peyton Goss of White Plains, Bradly Moore and Brayden Goss, both of Eatonton.
A graveside service was held at the Goss Family Cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, with the Rev. John McMillian officiating.
Pallbearers were Donnie Booth, Ryan Booth, Jason Booth, Ed Booth, Sean Booth, Danny Booth, James David Booth and Andrew Pittman Spell.

Arthur Gordon Hendrix
Arthur Gordon Hendrix, 75, of 111 Roosevelt Blvd., Commerce, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at his residence.
He was born April 3, 1930 in Jackson County, the son of Mamie Bearden Hemperley and the late Roy Hendrix. He was a retired elementary school teacher and was a member of Willow Springs Church.
He is survived by his mother, Mamie Hendrix Hemperley of Commerce, two sons, Thomas Hendrix of Loganville and Tim Hendrix of Rutledge, two brothers, Jimmy Hendrix of Madison and Paul Hendrix of Columbia, S.C., and five grandchildren.
Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Madison City Cemetery with the Rev. J. C. Studdard officiating.

Charles Carlton "Cot" Vaughters
Carlton "Cot" Vaughters, 83, of Madison died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at his home. He was born December 5, 1921 to Soloman and Cody Vaughters in Dawson County.
Mr. Vaughters lived most of his life in Morgan County. He was married to Mary Lillian Lankford. He served in the United States Army and retired from the Madison Post Office where he was a clerk. He attended Harvest Time Church.
Mr. Vaughters was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lankford Vaughters and a grandson, KC Vaughters.
He is survived by four sons: Charles Carlton Vaughters Jr., William Russell Vaughters, Roy Lamar Vaughters and Kenny Vaughteres; two brothers, Cleveland and Claude Vaughters and five grandchildren, Jay, Amy, Paul, Lindsey Rae and Kody Russell Vaughters.

Hulda Minish Youngblood
Mrs. Hulda Minish Youngblood of Madison, died Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in Athens. She was the wife of James Howard Youngblood who died in 1970. They were married in May of 1924 in Jackson County.
Mrs. Youngblood was born in Jackson County, Georgia on May 31, 1905 to James "Jim" Elijah and Valentine "Vallie" Allen Minish. Mrs. Youngblood had one brother, W.D. Minish and four sisters, Emma Minish Evans, Hester Minish Evans, Florence Minish Hardy, and Ada Knox Minish Clevenger.
Mrs. Youngblood is survived by six children: Howard Rogers and Betty Morris Youngblood, Jack and Frances Randall Youngblood, William Johnny and Brenda Hawkins Youngblood, Mary Sue Youngblood all of Madison; Toby and Betty Jo Youngblood Tarpley and Jimmy Gerald Youngblood of Madison, daughter-in-laws Charlotte King Youngblood of Jekyll Island and Geraldine Phelps Youngblood of Macon. Two sons, James Ottis Youngblood and Bobby Joe Youngblood preceded her in death. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Youngblood and her husband moved their family to Morgan County in 1939 and remained here until she entered St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Athens in 1997. Mrs. Youngblood was a homemaker who enjoyed working in her flower garden. She was an active member of the Morgan County Senior Citizens Center where she was honored for her volunteer work.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at A.E. Carter Funeral Home with burial at Bethany Church Cemetery.

Edna Louise Patrick, 80, of 1070 Prior Circle, Madison, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at Morgan Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Lee Williams and the late Willie Black Williams. She was born January 1, 1925 in Morgan County.
She is survived by her husband, William Marvin Patrick of Madison, a son, Marvin Julian Patrick of Taylorsville, Kentucky, two daughters, Betty Ann Jackson of Round Oak and Patricia P. Bishop of Madison; a brother, Robert Williams of Gray, a sister, Lucille Davis of Madison, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, in Simmons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Segars and Rev. Les Roberts officiating. Interment

Roy Alvin Nelson, 74, of Athens, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 1, 1930 in Albany, the son of the late Fred Nelson and the late Ossie Stinson Nelson.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Braswell Church Cemetery with the Rev. John McMillian officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Merle Viola Nelson of Athens, two daughters, Susan L. Harvey of Social Circle and Eddie Merle Armistead of Bostwick, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Audrey DeLoach Alexander
Audrey DeLoach Alexander, 81, of Buckhead, died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Madison Health and Rehab. She was born November 19, 1923 in Morgan County and was a lifelong resident of Buckhead. She was the youngest and last of 13 siblings born to the late George Washington DeLoach and Frances Lenorah Smith DeLoach. She attended school in Buckhead and later married Wayne Sylvester Alexander on February 24, 1939. During the 50’s and 60’s she worked for Morgan County Sewing Plant in Madison. Mrs. Alexander was a member of the Eastern Star in Madison and was a member of Buckhead Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Lola Gibson and husband George of Greensboro; a son, Charles Wayne Alexander and wife Carmen of Buckhead, five grandchildren, Rhonda Alexander, Jimmy and Cheryl Alexander, Laura and Scott Burden, Tammy and Chris Johnson and Debra and Todd Barber; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Sylvester Alexander and two sons, John Loring Alexander and Joe Marshall Alexander.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Buckhead Baptist Church with Rev. MaCrae Olinger and Rev. Steve Wallace officiating. Interment

Ernest T. Clark Jr.
Ernest T. Clark Jr., 86, died May 30, 2005. He was born April 9, 1919 to the late Ernest T. and Alice M. Clark in Jacksonville, Fla. He was a Master Sergeant and M.P. in the United States Army. He owned Clark’s Masonry Contractor and retired in 1970 from the masonry business. He and his wife then started Kuddle Korner Day Care in Atlanta.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Clark, a son, Ernest Stephen Clark, a daughter, Linda Jenkins preceded him in death; sisters, Margaret Ross and family, Annie R. Clark and family, Doris Askew and family, Eva Murray and family; brothers Willie Paul Clark and family, Eugene Clark and family, and Richard Clark and family. Brothers, Charles Clark, James Clark and Walter Clark and a sister, Carrie L. Billingslea, preceded him in death.

Dickey Freeman "Melvin Sims", 40, died Thursday, June 2, 2005. He was born June 21, 1964.
He joined New Faith Baptist Church. He attended Fulton County School and graduated from Clarkston Night School.
He is survived by his mother, Mary V. Martin, father, George (Hattie) Dunn, brother, Ray B. (Janis) Sims; two sisters, three aunts, Agnes Saggers of Atlanta, Jacquelyn Clark of Decatur, and Rosa Sims of Atlanta. One sister, Wanda Martin Rogers, preceded him in death.

Donald E. Greenway Sr.
Donald "Don" E. Greenway Sr., 85, of Fairplay, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Athens Regional Hospital. He owned and operated Greenway and Sons Logging Company for many years.
He was born August 16, 1919 in Banks County the son of the late Thomas Crawford Greenway and the late Iva Lee Maney Greenway. He was married to Ruby C. Arwood Greenway, who preceded him in death.

Burt of Madison; four sisters, Lillie Belle Holland of Shady Dale, Ruth Overby of Chatsworth, Louise Piotte of Milwaukee, Wis., and Virginia Turner of Valdosta; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his faithful caretaker, Mary Rakestraw, who cared for him a number of years following his stroke. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret G. Burt, two sons-in-law, Richard Moore and Larry Webb; five sisters, Mary Turner, Dollie Arwood, Stella Greenway, Peggy Greenway and Mildred Greenway; three brothers, Talley Greenway, Dorsey Greenway and William "Bo" Greenway.

Ida Lee Whisnante Hollis
Ida Lee Whisnante Hollis, 90, of Rutledge, died Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Walton Medical Center, where she had been a resident for over four years. Her husband, Boyce M. Hollis, and five brothers and sisters of which she was the oldest, preceded her in death.
Boyce and Ida were long time residents of Rutledge, where he built houses and she loving cared for her home and seven children. She was always busy gardening, canning, cooking and sewing for her family. Her special hobbies were quilting and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren are proud to have some of her handiwork. She was a member of Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church. For many years she fed many preachers with her cooking. In their retirement years, Boyce and Ida spent many enjoyable hours gardening in their beautiful yard making it a showplace in Rutledge.
Mrs. Hollis is survived by seven children, Morgan and Martha Hollis of Social Circle, Charlotte Wood of Rutledge, Michael and Nellie Hollis of Greensboro, Gregory Hollis of Rutledge, Peggy and David Moss of Newborn, Pam and Bill Pace of Forsyth and Selwyn Hollis of Savannah; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

John Guyton McLeod Jr.
John Guyton McLeod Jr., husband of Cassandra Elizabeth Baker McLeod of Dewees Island, S.C. entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 31, 2005 in a local hospital.
The relatives and friends of John Guyton McLeod Jr. were invited to attend his funeral service, Friday, June 3, in First United Methodist Church, Isle of Palms, S.C. at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. McLeod was born November 24, 1943 in Florence, S.C. He was the son of the late John Guyton McLeod and Margaret Powell McLeod, and the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Melvin McLeod and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bynum Powell. He was a 1966 graduate of Wofford College, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science degree.
He was Corporate Vice President of Avado Brands Inc. of Madison. He was a U.S. Army officer and veteran of the Vietnam war where he received the Bronze Star.
He served as president of Dewees Island Property Owners Association and as a member of the board of Dewees Island Utility Corp., the Board of Trustees of Madison-Morgan Cultural Center in Madison, and the Board of Directors for Morgan County (Ga.) Chamber of Commerce. He was Volunteer of the Year for the Madison Chamber of Commerce, and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee Chairman of First United Methodist Church of Madison. He was an active member and Finance Committee Chairman of First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms.
Surviving are his wife, Cassandra Elizabeth Baker McLeod of Dewees Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Rebecca Tilton McLeod Connelly and her husband, Paul Michael Connelly of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and Amanda Summers McLeod Groves and her husband, William Scott Rankin Groves of Savannah, two sisters, Margaret McLeod Ward of Mount Pleasant and Harriet Harllee McLeod of Charleston, S.C.; two nieces, Margaret Ward McClain of Raleigh, N.C., and Elizabeth Huff Ward of Mount Pleasant; and one grand-nephew, William Osce Holloway, of Raleigh.

Glennette Tedder, 60, died June 11, 2005 at Newton Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Glen and Annie Ruth Greenway Adams, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had been a resident of Covington for the past 24 years. She enjoyed reading and loved flowers.
Mrs. Tedder is survived by her husband, Raymond Tedder, children, Kathy and Jim Johnson of Loganville, Tammy and Jimmy Wielinga of Madison, Melinda and Charles Cline of Covington, Angie and Curtis Wilcox of Oxford, Kim and Taylor Temples of Rockmart, Wesley and Kevin Tedder of Covington, 17 grandchildren, a sister, Peggy Anglin of Covington and a brother, Pat Adams of Phoenix, Ariz.

Wenonah Martin Mitcham
Wenonah Martin Mitcham, 90, of Buckhead, died June 7, 2005 at her home. She was born September 7, 1914 in Morgan County to Paul and Nannie Morris Martin. She married Herman A. Mitcham and together they raised seven children in Morgan County.
Mrs. Mitcham was a dedicated teacher, spending 28 years teaching in Morgan County schools. During that time she taught every grade except the twelfth. She retired from teaching in 1980 from Morgan County Elementary School. She was a long time member of Swords United Methodist Church in Buckhead and was a member of the Retired Educators.
Mrs. Mitcham was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. Mitcham in May of 2002. Two children preceded her in death, Virginia M. Harwood of Buckhead and Allone Mitcham of Milledgeville.
She is survived by five children, John Paul Mitcham of Milledgeville, Felton Mitcham of Haddock, Eugene Mitcham and Carl Mitcham, both of Buckhead and Peggy Wood of Haddock; a sister, Nancy M. West of Madison, 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Nicholson — Annie Lee House, 71, died Thursday, June 9, 2005. Mrs. House was born in Oconee County. to the late Emory Lee Brown and Mary Ideal Barber. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and a seamstress for Wilkins Industries. She was preceded in death by two daughters; Brenda Ann House and Earnestine House, a son, Junior House and a brother, Kenneth Brown.

Kathryn Cathey, 79, of Madison, died June 15, 2005. She was born in Walton County on December 31, 1925 to the late Justin Richardson and the late Lillie Adcock Richardson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodgers Bart Cathey, and her brothers, Hubert Richardson and Coley Richardson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Cathey and Seaby Saffold of Madison; grandchildren, Sean Saffold and Justin Saffold, both of Madison.

Elizabeth Mapp, 61, died at her home on June 14, 2005.
She is survived by three daughters, Nora Reynolds and Sandy Lumpkin, both of Madison, and Jovonne Vincent of Lithonia; a son, Gary Lumpkin of Madison, one son-in-law, Mack Reynolds, one daughter-in-law, Debra Lumpkin; a sister, Lucille Taylor of Madison, four brothers, David Mapp and Wilson Taylor, both of Madison, James Sanders of Lithonia and Marvin Mapp of New Jersey, 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a special devoted friend, Timothy Martin.

Ruth Mayfield Edwards, 83, of White Plains, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at Oconee Regional Medical Center in Milledgeville. A lifelong resident of Hancock County she was born September 12, 1921 to the late Benjamin Cospert Mayfield and Ada Jeanette Smith Mayfield. She attended Siloam and Meadowcrest Schools. She was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Mt. Stephens Baptist Church of White Plains.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Edwards. She is survived by four daughters, Martha Jean Meadows of Eatonton, Mary E. Wilson of Madison, Emily E. Harris of Kennesaw, and Ann Edwards of White Plains; a sister, Julia Neese of Gainesville; nine grandchildren, Tommy Barnett, Lisa Wooten, Cathy Slaughter, Joy Wilson, Bubba Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson, Perry Johnson, Brittany Deweese and Jessica Sherrer; five great-grandchildren, Gerald Slaughter, James Slaughter, John Slaughter, Jeffery Wooten and Anna Wooten and a host of other relatives and friends.

Annette P. Landrum, 74, of Bostwick, died July 2, 2005. She was born in Morgan County on January 18, 1931 to the late Fred Peppers and the late Ludie Ruark Peppers.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Wayne Hardy of Monroe, Faye and Bo Craft of Bostwick, and Beth and Tim Bell of Bostwick; son, Bennie Norris of Douglas, sister and brother-in-law, Claudine and Joe Leachmon of Bostwick, brothers, Dewitt Peppers of Bostwick and Artis Peppers of Madison, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Seymour Robinson
Gertrude Robinson, 98, of Madison, died Saturday at Morgan Memorial Hospital. She was born April 7, 1907 to Charles and Ollie Seymour of Magnolia, Kentucky. She later married John Arthur Robinson. They spent most of their lives in Kentucky where Mrs. Robinson was a loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Robinson moved to Atlanta in 1993 and moved again in 1998 to Madison. She remained a member of the First Unitarian Church in Louisville, Ky. She loved cooking and created several prize-winning recipes.
Her husband, John Arthur Robinson, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Kimbell and husband Chuck of Reynolds Plantation, and two grandchildren, Jason Kimbell of Atlanta and Shelby Callinan and husband Bob of Charlotte, N.C., and two nieces, Kay Miller and Susan Miller.
A service will be held at a later date when Mr. and Mrs. Robinson will be laid to rest together at their home in Kentucky.

Stephen Alan Steinmann
"I’ve Gone Fishin!" Stephen Alan Steinmann, 59, died Thursday, June 30, at his home in Greensboro. He was born August 19, 1945 in Clarksburg, W. Va., son of the late Edwin Steinmann and Alice Steinmann of Taos, NM. His family moved to the Atlanta area around 1949, and he continued living there until he moved with his wife to Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro in early 2004.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, and a caring and loyal friend to many. He was an avid fisherman and could not pass a stream, river, lake or ocean without casting a line, always in search of the "big one." As a passionate gardener, he loved playing in the dirt and found great job in sharing his harvest with others. His generosity and kind-heartedness won for him the respect and admiration of many. Known for his quick wit and humor, he always had a joke or amusing story to share. Throughout his life he was a talented athlete, excelling in baseball, tennis and swimming, but was most proud of having run the Peachtree Road Race 12 consecutive years. His never ceasing optimism, courage and determination in facing his battles with Parkinson’s Disease, stroke impairments and cancer, was truly an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind and compassionate man who possessed a tremendous zest and love of life.
Steinmann graduated from the University of Georgia, Athens in 1967, and then served for two years as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a Finance and Disbursing Officer during the Vietnam War. In 1970 he joined his father in the family business, Corrosion Specialties, Tucker, and in 2001 after 31 years retired as president of the company.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Bowman Steinmann of Greensboro; three children, Joshua Locke of Atlanta and Ashley Birnbaurn of Alpharetta, Brittany Casalou of Suwanee; sister, Page Holley of Taos, NM; brothers, Matt Steinmann of Atlanta and Andy Steinmann of Gainesville; three grandchildren, Ariel, Keeley and Jake, and his loyal and devoted dog of nine years, Farmer.
His body was cremated. A. E. Carter Funeral Home, Madison. A gathering of family and friends for a dedication and celebration for the life of Stephen Steinmann will be held on his 60th birthday, Friday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at the Reflection Garden of Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro. A memorial bench and brick inscription paver, donated as a permanent symbol of his life by his wife and son, will be dedicated at that time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Reynolds Reflection Garden, 1090 Henry’s Hill, Greensboro, GA 30642.
