Fred Bradigan Jr.
Fred Bradigan Jr., 63, died November 2, 2005 at his home in Bostwick following a two year battle with throat cancer. Mr. Bradigan was born March 12, 1942 in New Kinsington, Pennsylvania to the late Fred Bradigan Sr. and Helen Sparks Bradigan.
He served in the United States Army.
He moved to Bostwick from the Atlanta area in 1999 but had spent most of his life in Greenville.
He was self-employed, owning an Aamco transmission business in Conyers. He was an active member of Rutledge United Methodist Church.
He loved his farm, his Tennessee Walking horses and trail riding. Mr. Bradigan will be remembered for his love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sally Williamson Bradigan, formerly of Greenville, Pennsylvania; and his mother, Helen S. Bradigan of Clarksville, Tennessee; a daughter, Lee Ann Lerner and Jay of Fayetteville and two step children, Song Ok and Soo Young Jo of Youngstown, Ohio and Song Su and Kwee Ilyun Kim of West Orange New Jersey; a grandson, Aidan Lerner, a sister, Sue Cook and two brothers, Terry Bradigan and Tim Bradigan, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutledge United Methodist Church, 136 E. Main Street, Rutledge, GA 30663 or to the American Cancer Society.

Sara Caraway Pennington
Sara Caraway Pennington, 84, of Buckhead died November 1, 2005.
She was born November 17, 1920, in Eufaula, Alabama, the daughter of the late Corbet and Victoria Caraway. She was married to Chester R. Pennington who preceded her in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Pennington lived for many years in Conyers. After Mr. Pennington’s death she moved to Louisville, Ala. to live with a sister, Lydia Helms. Later she came to stay with her children, primarily in Buckhead.
Mrs. Pennington was retired from Timber Products, Inc.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Louisville, Ala.
She was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the piano and organ and did so often for churches.
She is survived by a daughter, Vicky Honeycutt of San Diego, Calif. and three sons, Ken Pennington of Atlanta, Charles Ray Pennington of Orlando, Fla., and Larry and Linda Pennington of Buckhead; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren a brother, J. C. Caraway, a sister, Lydia Helms, both of Louisville, Ala., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 7, in the Chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment was at the New Covington Cemetery.

Margaret P. Crawford
Margaret Lucile Prince Crawford, 81, died at home on November 11, 2005 following a lengthy illness.
Born September 26, 1924 in Godfrey, Morgan County, to the late Annie Mae and Oscar Guy Prince, she attended grade school in Godfrey and graduated from Madison High School.
She was a 1946 graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics.
While working as a Home Demonstration Agent for the Cooperative Extension Service in Pike County, Georgia, she met and married Paul Augustus Crawford Jr. and they made their home in Athens.
Mrs. Crawford’s subsequent professional career included employment with the Clarke County Department of Family and Children’s Services, and some time as a substitute teacher in Clarke County schools before going to the Social Security Administration in the mid-1960s to help institute the Medicare program.
In 1968 she was offered the position of Patient Coordinator at Athens Heritage Nursing Home, where she worked until her retirement in 1991.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and David Hale; a granddaughter, Catherine Adair Hale; two sisters, Lautrelle Prince Love, Riverside, Rhode Island, and Winifred Prince Helmly of Athens, several nieces, great nieces, and her caregivers/companions Dietra Barnes, Tiffany Cooper, Martha Nunally and Lashaunda Lindsey.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul A. Crawford Jr., and a sister, Annie Maude Prince Daniel of Madison.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST. Rev. Grady Wigley officiated. Interment was Wednesday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at Madison City Cemetery.

Terry Allen Ray
Terry Allen Ray, 41, of Apalachee, died November 11, 2005.
He was born January 13, 1964 to Bobby Ray and Jo Ann Brown. He was a graduate of Newton County High School.
He moved to Morgan County in 1984 and most recently worked as a truck driver for B&W Waste Disposal.
He enjoyed fishing, auto racing, building birdhouses and collecting arrowheads. Ray loved to spend time with his friends and family.
He attended Apalachee Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Amanda Ray, Terry Ray Jr. and Mark Ray, his parents, Bobby and Sandra Ray and Jo Ann Brown, and his siblings, Sherry Archer, Angela Hood, Ricky Shields and Brian Shields, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 14 at Apalachee Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Cagle officiating. Interment was in Almond Cemetery.

Ann H. Stanton
Ann Head Stanton, 80, died at home in Rutledge on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. She was born in 1925 to J. Frank Head and Vallie Crossley Head.
A graduate of Rutledge High School, she worked as a young lady for Western Union. She was a secretary and a housewife.
Mrs. Stanton and her husband J. Hubert Stanton were members of Rutledge Baptist Church where she taught Girls Auxiliary, Sunbeams, and Sunday school.
She was a member of the Stay & See Georgia Foundation and of Rutledge Civic Club.
Her interests included pets, antiques and flowers
Survivors include her husband, James Hubert Stanton, a daughter, Brenda D. Stanton, a brother, C. M. Head, all of Rutledge and a brother, Homer A. Head of Monroe.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 10, at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Rutledge City Cemetery.

Raymond Watson "Monk" Jones
Raymond Watson "Monk" Jones, 85, of Madison died November 28, 2005. He was a native of Morgan County, born April 28, 1920 to Will and Ludie Hawkins Jones.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of World War II, a member of the United States Army from 1941 through 1945. During this time he served in Germany, Northern France and Normandy. On June 14, 1943 he married Inez Collier. Together they raised three daughters here in Morgan County. Mr. Jones was retired having worked for 45 years in the insurance industry. He was a member of Madison Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Madison Lions Club and Field and Stream. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Inez Collier Jones and their children, Denny Jones Ewing and Doug, Laura Jones Smith and Bobby, and Rae Jones; grandchildren, Rusty Ewing, Shane Ewing, Jennifer Tillery, Robert James, Hunter James, Amy Ozburn and Will Little and great-grandchildren, Alex Ewing, Levi Ewing, Sydney Ozburn and Meg Ozburn.
Graveside services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Madison Memorial Park with Dr. Jim Ross officiating. His grandsons served as pallbearers and military honors were provided by Calvin George Post of the American Legion.

Barnett Hardeman Malcom
Barnett Hardeman Malcom, 69, of Bostwick died Wednesday, November 23, 2005. He was born August 23, 1936 to Beeson H. and Ann Preston Malcom in Bostwick. He was a graduate of Morgan County High School and the University of Georgia.
Mr. Malcom married Drusilla Smith on March 23, 1961. Together they raised four children on their farm in Bostwick. He was a life-long resident of Morgan County. He was a member of Bostwick United Methodist Church and the Wellington Masonic Lodge. He spent his life working in agriculture related businesses. He grew cotton, soybeans and raised beef cattle. Most recently he was co-owner of Duvall Livestock Market in Greensboro where he greatly enjoyed meeting and talking with area farmers.
Mr. Malcom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Drusilla Smith Malcom, and children, Stacy M. Nabors and Stan, Sandy M. Warbington and Jimmy, Bucky Malcom and Jim Malcom and Tonya; six grandchildren, James and Bethany Warbington, Macy and Marlee Malcom, Kaitlyn and Cally Malcom, and two sisters, Ruby M. Field and Russell and Bebe M. Ruark and Marvin, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beeson and Ann.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bostwick City Cemetery with a celebration of life immediately following at Bostwick United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Bostwick United Methodist Church General Fund, P.O. Box 257, Bostwick, GA 30623.

Bennie Malcom
Bennie Malcom, 83, of Madison died Monday November 21, 2005. He was born January 23, 1922 in Morgan County to the late Bart Emery Malcom and the late Mattie Armistead Malcom. His son, Ben Malcom, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Daniel Malcom of Madison, sister and brother-in-law, Mary Nell and Charlie Boyd Walker of Madison, brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Carolyn Malcom of Madison; grandson, Keith and Lisa Malcom of Hampton; and great-grandchildren, Lindsay Malcom and Gregory Malcom, both of Hampton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23 at Sandy Creek Baptist Church with interment at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kent Adams, Clint Milford, Ricky Adams, Darrell Malcom, Keith Malcom and David Malcom.

Eugene McDaniel
Memorial services for Eugene McDaniel were held November 26, at Sugar Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Lou Comans officiating.
Mr. McDaniel, 74, died November 18, 2005 in Augusta. He had been sick with emphysema for 14 months. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Madison.
He was born in Ocee, Milton County, which is now Fulton County on December 3, 1930. He was the son of Howard and Lillie Mae Garmon McDaniel. He was the oldest of four children.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beatrice Wright McDaniel; 10 children and eight step-children; sons, Charles Barnes, James McDaniel and Bobby McDaniel of Winder; daughters, Bonnie Angel of Commerce, Myrtice Prince, Rhoda Rowan, Barbara Cambell, Sadie Parks, Sharon Rutledge of Winder, Susie Waldrop of Cumming and Linda Jay of Atlanta; step-sons, Ray Summers of Jacksonville, N.C., Jerry Summers and Roy Summers of Dahlonega; step-daughters, Alice Waddell of Madison, Dale Samples and Gail Beck of Dahlonega; sisters, Ruby Mae Kelly and Margie Kelly; brother, Fred McDaniel, 54 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew. A step-son, Ralph Summers of Lithonia preceded him in death.
At his request his remains were donated to The Medical College of Georgia for future research.

Nancy Reeves
Nancy Reeves died at her home in Rutledge on November 27, 2005. She was a Licensed Professional Counselor, serving clients in Greensboro and Madison.
In May, she received the "Counselor of the Year Award" of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association (LPCA) of Georgia. This honor goes to a member of the LPCA who has made significant contributions to the organization and to the profession of counseling in Georgia.
She served on the LPCA board of directors from 1995-2003; she was president 2000-02.
During her presidency the Georgia LPCA chapter was designated "Outstanding Chapter" by the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
Upon receiving the "Counselor of the Year Award" she said, "Everything that you have done has brought you to this moment. Let us celebrate all that we are; all those precious moments in our lives–glad ones, sad ones, and even those that we would rather forget.
"Let us celebrate our oneness and our uniqueness, keeping in mind that this day, this moment–this is it!
"May we remind ourselves every day of that fact; and recognize the hero that we are in our own sacred and special lives."
Reeves was counselor at Union Point Elementary School, Athens Academy, and Colegio Bolivar, Cali, Colombia.
The memorial service for Nancy Ann Reeves will be celebrated at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Madison, on December 2 at 11 a.m.
She was married to Jack Reeves.

Jimmy Gerald Youngblood
Jimmy Gerald Youngblood, 65, of Statham died Wednesday, November 23, 2005. He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late James H. and Hulda Minish Youngblood.
He is survived by two brothers, Roger Youngblood and William Johnny Youngblood, both of Madison, two sisters, Mary Sue Youngblood of Madison and Betty Jo Tarpley of Athens, and a beloved friend, Donna Wall of Statham.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ross officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 2680, N. Canton, Ohio 44720.

Geneva Dorothy O’Neal
Geneva Dorothy O’Neal, 52, of Madison died November 30, 2005 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. She was born February 2, 1953 to I. V. and Naomi Woody in Cobb County. She lived in Austell until moving to Madison.
She worked for 25 years for Waffle House restaurants. She attended Brownwood Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother Naomi Self and two brothers, James Larry Woody Sr. and Kenneth I. Woody.
A memorial service was held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brownwood Baptist Church.

Buddy James Lancaster
Buddy James Lancaster, 72 of Madison was welcomed home on December 9, 2005. He was born in Morgan County on August 21, 1933 the son of the late Arthur McKinley Lancaster and the late Lela Mary Lou Reed Lancaster.
He was the beloved husband of Shirley Jean Adcock Lancaster whom he was married to for 47 years. He was the father of three strapping boys and one loving daughter.
He was a graduate of Morgan County High School and the University of Georgia, from which he received his bachelor degree in Dairy Science and associate degree in Business Administration, He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Army Security Agency. He was a member and former quartermaster of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2557 and currently served the position of Service Officer. He was a member of Madison Baptist Church.
Mr. Lancaster was a retired dairyman, retired from Madison Gas & Oil, and retired from his own trucking business. He loved his family and especially doted on his grandchildren and his faithful companion "Brownie."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur McKinnley Lancaster and Lelia Mary Lou Reed Lancaster; his brothers, W. A. Lancaster and Boyd Lancaster and one sister, Dorothy Lancaster Hilsman.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Adcock Lancaster; his children, Mark A. Lancaster (Brenda) of Brooks, Lynne L. Cesarini (Dino) of Appling; Mike J. Lancaster (Francine) of Abbeville, S.C. and Jay M. Lancaster of Madison; two brothers, Charles Lancaster and Troy Lancaster, both of Hendersonville, N.C., two sisters, Margaret Bever of Tampa, Fla., and Patricia Stinchcomb (Randall) of Madison; grandchildren, Jennifer Cesarini, Michael Cline, Jonathan Lancaster, Anthony Cesarini, Josh Lancaster, and Alyssa Lancaster; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved "Brownie" and a multitude of friends through the years.
Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 11, at Madison Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Ross officiating. Interment was in Faith Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers were his nephews, Charlie Bever, Chip Lancaster, Dave Lancaster, Lee Stinchcomb, Ken Stinchcomb, Bart Hilsman, Jason Hilsman, and Matthew Knighten.

Marvin R. (Bob) Cooper
Marvin R Cooper, known as "Bob" in his youth in Morgan County, passed away December 11, 2005 in Knoxville, Tenn. He was born in Buckhead, Morgan County, on December 31, 1914, the second of three sons of DeWitt Talmadge and Tommie (Cochran) Cooper. He grew up in the Buckhead, Swords and Bethany communities and was a 1932 graduate of the 8th District (Madison) A&M School.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the mid-1930s, working on development of Hard Labor Creek State Park and other Middle Georgia projects. He was a farmer in Morgan County for several years before moving to Tennessee in the early 1940s as a construction worker. He was employed in construction of the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tenn. and chose to remain in Knoxville after its completion. He embarked on a new and diversified career in sales, retiring in 1987 as a manufacturer’s representative in the automotive parts field.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sybil (formerly Sybil Stone, also from Morgan County); brother, William J. Cooper of LaGrange, Ky.; sons, John of Auburn, Wash., and George (Harry) of Asheville, N.C.; daughter, Gay Cooper Buddenhagen of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be placed in the family plot at Bethany Baptist Church.

Thomas Joe Knight
Thomas Joe Knight, 63, of Rutledge died December 8, 2005 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. He was born September 5, 1942 in Morgan County to Otha and Annie Autry Knight. He spent his entire life in Morgan County.
He married Dale Rivers in 1965. They made their home in Centennial where they raised their daughter Thomasia. Mr. Knight was self-employed as a farmer raising cotton and cattle. He enjoyed working around the farm whether it was restoring an antique tractor or feeding his cows. He found great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren, often including them in his work around the farm and taking them to tractor parades. He was known as a helper. He loved his friends and made many because he was always willing to help others.
Mr. Knight was a recipient of a heart transplant 12 years ago. He knew the importance of organ donors and worked tirelessly to raise awareness as well as raising money for the American Heart Association.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dale R. Knight and their daughter, Thomasia Alexander and her husband Matt; four grandchildren, Elijah, Joshua, Lydia and Caleb Alexander and his mother-in-law, Doris Rivers; two sisters, Shirley Minish and Lelia Knight, two brothers, Otha Knight Jr. and Bobby Lee Knight Sr., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aubie Wade Knight Sr.
Funeral service was held Sunday, December 11, at 2 p.m. at Centennial Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Wilburn Hill officiated, assisted by Matt Alexander, Elijah Alexander and Dr. Andrew Smith. Pallbearers were Otha Knight, Brandon Knight, Bobby West, Brian West, Robert Dalton and Shane Casper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centennial Baptist Church Building Fund or to the American Heart Association.

Emma Estelle Hendrix Wood
Estelle Hendrix Wood, 99, formerly of Madison died December 16, 2005. Mrs. Wood was born July 9, 1906 in Jackson County to the late William and Nora Whetsel Hendrix.
She spent most of her life here in Morgan County. She was married to Henry Wood of Madison who preceded her in death. She worked for many years as a sales clerk for Friedman’s and Gallant Belk. Most recently she lived in Dallas to be near her children. She was a member of Madison Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday school Class. She was active at the Morgan County Senior Center while living here. She especially enjoyed quilting, which she continued to do into her 90s.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her four children, Juanita W. Pardue of Cleveland, Nora W. Goodman of Dallas, Danny Wood and Nancy of Dallas and Clara W. Smith and Richard of Columbus; eight grandchildren, John Achter, Shannon Moore, Erik Pardue, Ashley Patterson, Jaime Wood, Justin Smith, Dr. Lindsay Sammons and Jeffery Wood; three great-grandchildren, Madison Moore, Grayson Moore and Colton Patterson; three sisters, Hassieleen and Ernest Ward, Gertrude and Ed Thurmond and Lena Moss; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Madison Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Ross officiating. Interment was in Madison Memorial Cemetery.

Hugh Carroll Hanson
Hugh Carroll Hanson, 90, of Madison died December 25, 2005 at Piedmont-Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville. He was bon March 27, 1915 in Morgan County to George R. and Kittie Crawford Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was a lifelong resident of Morgan County. He married Edith Simons and they raised three daughters here. He was retired from Spears Motor Company where he worked as a salesman. He was a member of Madison Baptist Church and the Madison Masonic Lodge, where he received his 50 years pin. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking. He loved his family and cherished time spent with them.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edith S. Hanson, and their daughters, Jane H. Patterson and Bill of Brooks, Kitty H. Reeves of Fayetteville and Mary H. Parker and Ken of Newnan, grandchildren, James Reeves, Marilyn Gerrard and Laura Parker, one great grandchild, Isabella Reeves, a brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Beatrice Hanson, and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Hanson.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 3 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 30, in the chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Madison Memorial Cemetery.

Mamie Bearden Hendrix Hemperley
Mamie Bearden Hendrix Hemperley, 98, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005. She was born September 25, 1907 in Lumpkin County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ezelia Bearden.
Mrs. Hemperley was married to Roy Hendrix. They moved to Morgan County in 1936 from Commerce. They had six children. In 1946 Mr. Hendrix died. Mrs. Hendrix married W. C. Hemperley later on who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hemperley was a member of the Commerce Garden Club and Willow Springs Baptist Church. She had been an active member of Madison Baptist Church working with the Beginners Sunday school. She enjoyed cooking and reading and loved to fish. She especially enjoyed time with her family. Mrs. Hemperley was a florist and owned the Madison Flower Shop for many years. She spent the last months at Madison Health and Rehab where she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Hemperley is survived by two sons, Roy Paul Hendrix of Columbia, S.C. and Jimmy Bearden Hendrix and Lisa of Madison; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Roy Hendrix, W. C. Hemperley, four children, Joseph Walter Hendrix, Arthur Gordon Hendrix, Johnny Lee Hendrix and Virginia Jane Hendrix, and four grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, in the chapel at A. E. Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. J. C. Studdard officiating. Interment was in Madison City Cemetery. Her grandsons acted as pallbearers.
A.E. Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Rice Hill
Ruth Rice Hill, 89, of Madison died Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2005 at Morgan Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late James E. Rice and the late Lillie Letterman Rice.
She retired from Lockheed Aircraft and enjoyed reading, sewing, needlework and gardening. She was very active until about a month ago.
Mrs. Hill was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 29, at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kirk Bozeman officiating. Interment will be in Buckhead City Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, James C. Hill of Nokomia, Fla., and a daughter, Delicia Reynolds of Berkeley; two grandson, James C. Hill Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and David Hill of Stuart, Fla.; several great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Simmons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rilla Icelene Harwood
Rilla Icelene Harwood, 76, died January 2, 2006, at her residence in Buckhead. She was born January 1, 1930 in Doerun to the late John Henry Powell and the late Sallie Icelene Beasley.
She is survived by her husband, James Edward "Jimmy" Harwood of Buckhead; a son, Fred Wayne Johnson of Quincy, Fla., a daughter, Donna Meriwether of Newborn, three brothers, Rawlston Powell, Iverson Powell of Doerun, and Dale Powell of Thomasville; two sisters, Margaret Livingston of Moultrie and Peggy Smith of Tallahassee, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, at Simmons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Shumate officiating. Interment was in Buckhead City Cemetery.
Simmons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ben Collier Yarbrough
Augusta — The first Director of the CSRA Law Enforcement Training Center, Ben Collier Yarbrough, died at his home in Augusta on December 30, 2005.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Charles Michael officiating. Entombment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors.
He was born in Commerce and moved with his parents and three siblings, all now deceased, to Madison, where he lived until his high school graduation.
He was a graduate of North Georgia College and received his commission in the military police branch of the United States Army in 1948.
During his 22 years of military service he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel serving two tours of duty in Korea and one in Vietnam, as well as Provost Marshal in Ft. Polk, La. and Grafenwohr, Germany.
Following his military retirement in 1970, Mr., Yarbrough became the director of the newly formed CSRA Law Enforcement Training Center until his retirement in 1992. The center taught city police officers, sheriffs and college public safety officers from a 13-county area.
Mr. Yarbrough was an active member and head deacon of First American Baptist Church in Augusta, a Master Mason of Madison Lodge 376 for over 50 years and a member of Clarence Cohen Chapter of National Sojourners.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Johnston Yarbrough, formerly of McCredie, Mo., son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Angela Yarbrough of Carlisle, Pa., granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Nicole Yarbrough and Adam Goerge of Charlottesville, Va.
Special thanks to United Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
