Ronald E. Howard, 63, of Holiday Park Drive, Plum, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. Born June 22, 1936, in New Kensington, he had been a resident of Plum most of his life. Mr. Howard was a 1954 graduate of Plum High School and a Navy veteran during the Korean conflict, where he attained the rank of Boiler Maker, 2nd Class. He was employed for 30 years by the H.J. Heinz Co. of Pittsburgh as an instrumentation technician, retiring in June of 1998. Mr. Howard was a member of Plum Creek Lodge Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Donna Eiler Howard; a son, Daniel C. Howard of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. John (Roni S.) Agnes G. Sefcheck Marchewka, 91, formerly of Everson, died Sunday morning, Nov. 7, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Jan. 5, 1908, in Owensdale, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Siwula (Sczwczyk) Sefcheck. Agnes was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson, and the church's Holy Rosary Society. She was a member of the Everson Senior Citizens Organization. Agnes was well-known for her crocheting of afghans, slippers and scarfs, and was an avid bingo player. Agnes leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Genevieve E. Anna Mary ``Pat'' McGann-Echement passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Country Meadows, Bridgeville, where she had been a resident since 1993, after the passing of her second husband, Roy Echement. Mary Pat, as she was known, was born Feb. 27, 1914, to O.E. and Florence Hartman, near Frostburg, Md. She was raised in Connellsville, where she married F.J. ``Mac'' McGann in 1934, and moved to Latrobe, where she raised two sons, Jim, who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and who has three daughters and four grandchildren; and Neil, who lives in Titusville, Fla., and has two children. After ``Mac'' McGann passed away, Mary Pat moved to Pittsburgh and trained to become a nurse's aide in acute care, and retired from St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon in 1981. Emmett Filmore Tweedy, 91, of 2036 Nursery Road, Clearwater, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in the Largo (Fla.) Medical Center. He was born Aug. 6, 1908, in Wilkins Township, a son of the late Robert S. and Elsie Gertrude Moyer Tweedy. Before retiring to Florida in 1972, he was a teacher, principal, and track and football coach in the Turtle Creek School District for 40 years. He graduated from Westminster College in 1931 with a B.S. in chemistry, and earned an M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to track and field, he played football in high school and college, and was inducted into the Westminster College Towering Titans Hall of Fame. He was also an outstanding gymnast and taught the sport in addition to his other school duties. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clearwater, the Masonic Blue Lodge 613, Syria Shrine Temple, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, all in Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Sholl Tweedy, and his second wife, Dorothy Bower Tweedy. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Daniel Roy and William O. Tweedy; and by sisters, Margaret Tweedy and Thelma Tweedy Wolak. In addition to his wife of 17 years, Louise Collins Howland Tweedy, he is survived by his daughter, Linda T. Kosak; his son-in-law, Carl C. Kosak; his grandson, Christopher C. Mary K. Urana, 86, of Herminie, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Mrs. Urana received her teaching degree from the University of Indiana and retired as an elementary teacher with over 30 years of service in the Sewickley Township School District. Her memberships included being a life member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, Herminie, and its Altar Rosary Society, a member of the Herminie S.N.P.J. Lodge #87 and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Mrs. Urana is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Urana; and also several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Edward Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. A St. Edward Parish Rosary was recited Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A parish wake service was held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Goldie M. Woodward, 91, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in the Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. She was born in Youngwood, May 20, 1908, the daughter of the late Levi and Lucy Zimmerman Nagle. She was a retired employee of Herrold's Jewelry Store and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Woodward, in 1977. She is survived by her son, Jay E. Woodward and his wife, Sue, of Greensburg; a daughter, Marjorie Steadman of Versailles, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Jeff and Caroline Woodward and Lynne Tapp. Family and friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James H. Nash officiating. Interment
will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. The family requests memorial contributions to either the First Presbyterian Church or the Salvation Army of Greensburg.
Robert A. ``Gus'' Zazac Sr., 86, of Greensburg, formerly of Monessen, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, surrounded by his family at UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. Born March 21, 1913, in Monessen, a son of the late Anthony and Fanny Zazac. His first job was as a paper carrier for the Valley Independent, a job he had from age 5 until he started working for Acco Page Wire-Tin Mill at age 16. He worked for Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel at the Monessen and Allenport plants during his 46 years with the company. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Army 618th Quartermaster Detachment, earning three Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a Meritorious Unit Award. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, the VFW Greensburg Post 33, a life member of the United Steel Workers, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 16-year survivor of stomach cancer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, including Stanley, who was killed in action during World War II; a sister, Mary Balant; and a granddaughter, Nicole Marie Sedunov. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susan Zazac; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Steven Sedunov of Indiana, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. Jr. and Gina Zazac of North Versailles; three grandsons, Jasen S. and his wife, Heather Sedunov, of Greensburg, Joshua S. Sedunov of Indiana, Pa., and Robert A. Zazac III of North Versailles; and a granddaughter, Mia Marie Zazac, also of North Versailles. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen, where a blessing service will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1 p.m. in the Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church. Interment
will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
