Archie Angelou Estes Pool
Archie Angelou Estes Pool, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006. She was surrounded by family both physically and in spirit, leaving this world only after hearing from her four dearly loved daughters.
Archie was born March 12, 1915 in a little cottage deep in the Oklahoma “Pawpaw Bottoms” near Onapa, she was one of 11 children born to Archie Adolpheus and Ruth Canzanda Estes. She married Conrad B. “Pete” Pool Oct. 31, 1933 in Arvin, Calif. He preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1989 at the age of 79.
Archie found her life’s calling at 16 and never looked back. She worked without ceasing to her last breath, bringing love, hope, truth and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to family, friends and strangers who once met, became a part of her flock. In a time when few women were in positions of leadership, she believed that God called her to plant churches in small towns throughout the northwest. She pioneered and pastored dozens of churches throughout Northern California and Oregon. During her career, the Rev. Archie Pool would establish and lead a congregation and her husband, a carpenter would build them a church. Once a church became strong and flourishing, they would begin their mission work in another community. Her ministry spanned more than 74 years and touched lives all over the world.
Through her faith and hard work, Assemblies of God churches sprang up in Oregon in Independence, Idanha, Warrenton and Clatskanie. She began churches in Fort Seward and Arcata, Calif. and revived churches in places like Trinidad, Canby, Anderson and Ferndale, Calif.; as well as Merrill. When she retired and eventually moved in to Lakewood Pointe Assisted Living, she continued to gather her flock holding Bible Studies and reaching out to those around her as a living example of God’s love and faithfulness. She believed that God had put her there to fill a need, and she intended to fill it.
Never known to tell a lie or speak a judgmental word, she was seen by many as a loving spirit full of laughter and wisdom. She loved family, young people and singing old Gospel songs. She especially loved mountains, the rock formations upon them and the sound of train whistles. Two of her most favorite bible verses were Psalm 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help...; and Psalm 118: ...The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust...
Archie, named for the father she adored, is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law; Treva and Chuck Kelley of Lakeview, Joanne and Frank Gilmore of Eureka, Calif., Connie and Ray Gleaton of Cottonwood, Calif. and Cindy Johnson and Jack Russell of Scottsmoore, Fla.; grandchildren; Sharon Liddycoat, Jimmy Norman, Kevin Clifton, Dennis Clifton, Sabrina Hagl, Shane Johnson, Isaac Gleaton, Rachael Gleaton, Tony Bishop, Michael Bishop, Kim, Scott and Glenn Kelley; brother, Ted Estes of Stockton, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David “Dave” Murphy
David (Dave) Murphy, 78, died of natural causes on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006 in Lakeview.
Dave was born June 25, 1928 at his family’s farm in Barleyhill, Newmarket, Co. Cork, Ireland to Maurice and Hannah (McAuliffe) Murphy. Dave was one of seven children.
His childhood was full of chores and farm activities and from an early age he fixed and built farm equipment. During his youth, Dave raised race horses and show pigs with his five brothers. He also enjoyed dancing and went every chance he got.
After his education at the Newmarket Boys School, Dave worked for a year at the local creamery making cheese and processing milk. He then moved on to Mallow, Co. Cork where he trained to be an auto mechanic and was employed as a driver by Senator O’Callaghan’s estate that is now the Longeville House Guest House. When his training was complete, he did his apprenticeship at Sullivan’s Garage in Newmarket, Co. Cork. During this time, he met the love of his life – Ann Murphy of Meelin, Newmarket Co. Cork. During their courtship, Dave received an offer to work as a mechanic in America from his long time friend Dan Collins. Dan had returned to Ireland seeking Dave out as a mechanic for his Lakeview garage. Dave confronted Ann about the offer and it was decided within a day that the couple would go west to America. Dave immigrated May 1957 and Ann followed in February 1958. They were married April 23, 1958 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lakeview. Dave and Ann raised a daughter Marie Goretti Murphy.
For 20 years Dave worked as a mechanic for the local Chevy dealership owned by friends Dan and Kit Collins. After retiring from the auto mechanic business Dave and Ann purchased the Rim Rock and 395 Motels which they operated for many years. Dave always loved the land and after selling the motel business purchased a ranch west of Lakeview where he enjoyed going each day until his health would not permit it. He also purchased his grandfathers farm in Upper Barleyhill, Newmarket Co. Cork, Ireland.
He was especially thrilled when his daughter, son-in law and three grandchildren moved to Lakeview. As the grandchildren grew, Dave loved going to their basketball, football and volleyball games or anything else they were involved in.
Dave made many trips to his native Ireland and never lost his Irish brogue and sense of humor. Dave and Ann also traveled to Canada, Alaska, New Zealand, the Mexican Riviera, Australia, Fiji and the Panama Canal. He was an avid golfer and hunter. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and anything to do with the outdoors.
