MOSES LANCELIN
Mr. Moses Lamar Lancelin, 71, a resident and native of Baldwin, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at 5:25 a.m., at his residence following a short illness.
He is survived by three sons, Lamar B. Lancelin of Livingston, Alabama, Bryant Lancelin and Bruce Lancelin, both of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two daughters, Karen Lancelin Tomlinson and Janice A. Lancelin, both of Stone Mountain; a host of grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Lancelin was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and five brothers.
Visitations and burial rites will be read Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baldwin, with interment following.
The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

Lawrence Lewis
Lawrence "Mamou" Lewis, 87, a native and resident of Ashton, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at his home following a short illness.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptised in 1946 by the Rev. Martin Widow at Macedonia Baptist Church in Ashton. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Alberta Collins on Dec. 25, 1948 and was a lifetime member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
In 1949 he was raised as a Mason and received his lifetime membership as a Mason on May 17, 1999. He served as chaplin of Leonidas Lodge No. 29 for many years.
He was actively involved in Macedonia Baptist Church as a deacon, a member of Bible study and prayer services, Sunday school, home mission and other church activities. He was involved in Christian fellowship at various churches in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Milton Thomas, Frank Lewis and Carlton Lewis, and four sisters, Lelia Lewis, Ella Jones, Ora Balka and Maggie Lewis.
He is survived by five daughters, Emily Marsh of Beaumont, Texas, Lillie (Wallace) Gabriel of Houston, Donna Lewis (Joseph) Lanceslin and Leola (Nolan) Chatman, both of Baldwin, and Ada Lewis of Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends who accept that his departure is Heaven's gain.
Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home in Franklin, on Monday, Aug. 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Baldwin from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral rites will follow at 11 a.m., with interment in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Ashton. The Rev. Ulysses Mitchell is officiating.
The Jones Funeral Home of Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.

IDA MAE MAXIE-GREEN
Ida Mae Maxie-Green, 65, a resident and native of Jeanerette, died Friday, June 8, 2007, at Iberia Medical Center following a long illness.
She is survived by her spouse, Bolden Green of Calumet; one son, James Maxie Jr. of Dallas, Texas; two stepsons, Gregory Lewis of Four Corners and Andrius Vitto of New Iberia; two daughters, Wanda Maxie of Jeanerette and Linda Faye Jackson of Jeanerette; three brothers, Roman (Gisella) Wesley of Jeanerette, Marshall Wesley Jr. of Cade, Charles Wesley of Cecilia; three sisters, Learney Sharp of Jeanerette, Mrs. Clyde (Mary) George of Cade and Mrs. Emanuel (Ella) Chaney of Lafayette; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mrs. Maxie-Green was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, her first husband and one daughter.
Visitation and funeral rites were observed Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at the Jones Funeral Home in Franklin. Remains will be cremated.
The Jones Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

CARMEN P. MAZONE
Mrs. Carmen Phillips Mazone, 68, a resident of Palmetto and native of New Orleans, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at 12:30 a.m., at Opelousas General Health Care following a short illness.
She is survived by one son, Charles J. Mazone of Opelousas; one brother, Alfred Phillips of California; two sisters, Mrs. Delores Reynolds of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Janice Doutherd of Charenton; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitations will be observed Thursday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Otis Mortuary in Franklin.
Burial rites will be read Thursday, at 11 a.m., at the mortuary. The Rev. James F. Otis will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, 1262 Bobtown Road in Charenton.

Karl Patterson
Karl Patterson, 71, a native of Verdunville and a resident of New York, New York, died following a short illness Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 1 a.m. at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, New York.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Patterson, of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Brent Patterson of Washington, D.C. and Wyndell Earl Eatmon of Birmingham, Ala.; one daughter, Myrtis Patterson of New York, New York; five brothers, Rev. Donnie (Rev. Idele) Fontonet and Hnery (Eliza) Fontonet, both of Verdunville; Rayfield Fontonet of Franklin, Harold Fontonet of Lafayette and Preston (Bernice) Fontonet of Toledo, Ohio.
Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald United Methodist Church in Verdunville, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral rights held at the church at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment fill follow at Little Zion cemetery.

MRS. SYLVESTER PAYTON
Mrs. Sylvester H. Payton, 64, a resident of Franklin and native of Katy, died Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 3 p.m., at her residence following a short illness.
She is survived by one uncle, Joseph Lowe of Franklin; and a host of cousins.
Mrs. Payton was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitations will be observed Friday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Otis Mortuary Chapel in Franklin.
Burial rites will be read Friday, at 11 a.m., at the mortuary. The Rev. W.J. Otis will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery in Franklin.

AUDREY MAE PICKNEY
Audrey Mae Rideaux Pickney, 62, a native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette, died Sunday, August 19, 2007, at Lafayette General Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Jeanerette. The Rev. Agustinus Seran will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will begin Friday, at 7:30 a.m., at the church until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.
Mrs. Pickney is survived by two sons, William Charles Pickney Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Jeanerette, and Anthony Pickney of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Connie (Henry) Thomas of Baldwin, Carla P. Ezell and her husband, John, of El Paso, Texas, and Amy Fay Pickney Durley and her husband, Kenny, of Alabama; two brothers, Darryln Rideaux of California and Raymond Rideaux of Abbeville; one sister, Shirley Mae Rideaux of New Iberia; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles Pickney Sr.; parents, Raymond and Hazel V. Rideaux; one daughter, Cynthia Pickney; one granddaughter, Olivia Pickney; and two nephews, Carlton Rideaux and Carlton Michael Rideaux.
Mrs. Pickney was employed by the Iberia Parish Recreation Dept. as a Janitorial Technician. She also assisted with many youth programs.

KAREN D. PROVOST
Miss Karen D. Provost, 48, a resident and native of Baldwin, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at 11:45 a.m., at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia following a short illness.
She is survived by her mother, Hazel M. Bowser Provost of Baldwin; five brothers, Ronald Keith Provost Sr., Kim Provost Sr. and Damon Provost of Baldwin, Raymond Provost Jr. of Franklin and Mark Provost of New Orleans; three sisters, Paula Stevens of Port Arthur, Texas, Debra Charles of Jeanerette and Robin Clark of Baldwin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitations will be observed Monday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Crossing Place in Franklin.
Burial rites will be read Monday, at 2 p.m., at that church. The Rev. Brad Bullock will officiate. Interment will follow in the Special Providence Cemetery in Baldwin.

J.C. "BLACK" ROGERS
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at 10 a.m., for J. C. "Black" Rogers, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at his home on Saturday, August 18.
Mr. Rogers was a proud veteran of WWII and will be laid to rest with military honors.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the fuel distribution industry as a bulk fuel agent for Canal Refining Company. He was an avid sports enthusiast having participated as a boxer and football player at Abbeville High School where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2000 honored as one of Acadiana's top 100 athletes of the 20th Century.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. His golfing activities and his support of his children and grandchildren's sporting activities continued until his death.
Black is survived by his wife of 60 years, Effie Broussard Rogers. He is also survived by his sons, David Rogers and his wife, Lana, of Abbeville; Tommie Rogers and his wife, Janice, of Lafayette; Kelly Rogers and his wife, Jes-sie, of Abbeville; and his daughter, Mary Katherine Rogers of Abbeville. He is also survived by his sisters, Velta Firmin of Franklin and Jane Bohrer of New Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Leaving to also mourn Popoo's passing are his 10 grandchildren, Maria Phares, Baron Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Erin Hebert, Lindsay Trahan, Kyla Rogers, Karla Rogers, Amy Rogers, Ryan Rogers and Phillip Rogers; and his four great grandchildren, Payton and Addison Phares, Stella Rogers and Hollyn Hebert.
In addition to his parents, Wilfred B. and Eliseman S. Rogers, his in-laws, Thartule and Theoza Broussard, and his sister, Flora Holt, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Benjamin Jude Rogers.
Pallbearers will be Baron Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Kern Meyers and Paul "Bubba" Trahan.
Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
The family requests that visitation be observed from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

TERRY RUFFIN
Mr. Terry Ruffin, 53, a resident and native of Morgan City, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at 3:04 a.m., at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson Parish following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Engleton Ruffin of Morgan City; two sons, Titus Trimm of Morgan City and Marvel Smith of San Francisco, California; one daughter, Carlissa Brown of New Orleans; six brothers, Larry Ruffin of Lake Charles, Don Ruffin of Lafayette, Marvin Ruffin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Darryl Ruffin of Morgan City, Billy Reaux of Baton Rouge and Nathan Wheeler of New Orleans; five sisters, Marion Lee of Lake Charles, Pervy Ruffin of Lafayette, Annette Rochelle of Berwick, Darlene Reaux of Baton Rouge and Marlene Reaux of New Iberia; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Ruffin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Visitations will be observed Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Morgan City.
Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church. The Rev. C.F. Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

CALVIN SMITH
Calvin Smith, 56, a resident of Amelia and native of New Orleans, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at his residence following a long illness.
He is survived by his spouse, Ora Singleton-Smith of Amelia; two sons, Calvin Singleton of Morgan City and Michael Singleton of Amelia; two stepsons, Rutherford Jones of Amelia and Staff Sgt. Clarence Jones of Fort Hood, Texas; four daughters, Nakithe S. Henderson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nakithe Singleton and Jessica Singleton of Amelia and Michel Singleton of Berwick; four stepdaughters Mona Clark, Lillian Diggs and Cheryl Singleton, all of Amelia, and Shantel McPherson of Houston, Texas; one brother, James Smith of New Orleans; two sisters, Louise Robinson of Avondale and Joann Smith Wallace of New Orleans; 23 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Union Bethel Church.
Funeral rites will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church. Interment will follow in the Union Bethel Cemetery.

CLAUDINE B. THOMAS
Mrs. Claudine Brown Thomas, 62, a resident of Bakertown and native of Bayou Sale, died Monday, August 20, 2007, at 4:06 a.m., at her residence following a short illness.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Roland Thomas Sr. of Bakertown; one son, Jimmy R. Thomas Jr. of New Iberia; three daughters, Renetta Orlette Washington of Gulfport, Mississippi, Raeschell LaVelle Franklin of Franklin and Alessia Thomas-Johnson of Cypress, Texas; one brother, Barry Trent Brown of Bakertown; one sister, Barbara A. Thomas of Bakertown; and 11 grandchildren.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Julia M. Brown and Isaac Brown Sr.; one son, Raylon Dewayne Brown; and two brothers, Stanley Brown and Isaac Brown Jr.
Visitations will be observed Friday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Otis Mortuary Chapel in Franklin.
Burial rites will be read Friday, at 1 p.m., at the mortuary. The Rev. Wilson Ferguson Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the Golden Queen Cemetery in Centerville.

JO ANNE V. TOUCHET
Mrs. Jo Anne Viguerie Touchet, 64, a lifelong resident of Charenton, died Monday, August 20, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
The family requests that visitation be observed Tuesday, August 21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume Wednesday, August 22, at 9 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charenton until time of services.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charenton. Father William Crumley will be officiating. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum.
Mrs. Touchet is survived by her husband of 46 years, Howard Touchet of Charenton; her mother, Gladys Funk Viguerie of Charenton; one son, Derek James Touchet and his wife, Missi, of Franklin; three daughters, Melanie Faye Baudoin and her husband, Victor, of Charenton; Christina Maria Reyerson and her husband, Clayton, of Youngsville; and Felicia Anna Gary and her husband, Francis "Peanut" of Baldwin; one brother, Roland "Sonny" Viguerie Jr. of Charenton; three sisters, Gwen Leedom of Centerville, Cindy Rogers of Charenton and Connie Durocher of Charenton; nine grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Blaise, Rebecca, Chelsea, Matthan, Benjamin, Raven and Saige; as well as many numerous nieces and nephews.
Her father, Roland Raphael Viguerie Sr. preceded her in death.
Mrs. Touchet lived in various places around the world. She will be missed by all that knew her.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hospice of Acadiana and the caretakers of Mrs. Touchet, including a special thanks to Ms. Sherry Carter and Ms. Leticia Chauvin.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

Doris Mae Walker
Private memorial services will be held for Doris Walker, age 79, the former Doris Mae Rogers, who passed away Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 11:45 p.m. at Louisiana Extended Acute Care in Lafayette.
Ms. Walker was a native of Franklin, and a resident of Carencro for over 15 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Lamaison Burley and her husband, Jimmy, of Youngsville, and Candice Walker Duhon and her husband, Allen, of Duson; three grandchildren, April Walker of Duson, Keith Burley and his wife, Haley, of Patterson, and Mark Burley and his fiance'. Jennifer, of Youngsville; four great grandchildren, Brandon Aldrich, Macy Walker, McKayla Burley, and Brielle Burley; and three brothers, Oray Rogers and his wife, Louise, of Franklin, LA, Ovay Rogers and his wife, Diane, of Berwick, and Uric Rogers and his wife, Vuearlee, of Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Connie Lamaison; her second husband, Bobby J. Walker; her parents, Whitney Rogers and the former Gladys Verret, both natives of Louisa; and one sister, Sadie Weathersby, and one brother Floyd Rogers..
The family would like to thank Maude, Beverly, Lillian, and Dottie, for the wonderful friends they were and also Lamm Home Health Service.
As per wishes of Doris, there will be no public viewing of the body.
