GERTRUDE WELTRING
Gertrude Taquino Weltring passed away in the loving arms of her daughter Debra and son-in-law Frank on Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the age of 93.
Gertrude was a native of Franklin and a long-time resident of New Orleans. She was residing in Independence with her daughter and son-in-law at the time of her death. Mimi touched the lives of many with her warm smile and laugh.
"Mimi," as she was affectionately known, is survived by her daughter, Debra Grass Impastato and her husband, Frank; two grandsons, Jason and Matthew Grass; her nephew, Audie Taquino of Morgan City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William A. Weltring; three sisters, Irma Dixon, Olie Bonin and Thelma Arceneaux; and three brothers, Randolph, Vernon and Claude Taquino.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 13, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans (504) 486-0880.

MELVIN R. YOUNG
Melvin Ronnie Young, 63, born in Raleigh, North Carolina and a resident of Franklin for the past 17 years, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Audra Hebert Young of Franklin; his two sons, Melvin Joseph Young of Richmond, Virginia and Michael Ryan Young of Franklin; his two daughters, Christine Young of Richmond, Virginia and Samantha Young of Franklin; one grandson, Zachary Young of Richmond, Virginia; his stepfather, Billy Thorne of North Carolina; and numerous aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Joseph Young; his mother, Mildred Pearce Young Thorne; and one sister, Jacquelyn Thorne.
The family requests that a Graveside Memorial Service be held on Friday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., at the Franklin Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Whatley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.
Local retired businessman J.W. Walden died Wednesday, following a short illness. He was 86.
Born and raised in Clarksville, Texas, Walden settled in Franklin more than 50 years ago where he established Walden's Gulf service station on Main Street at the corner of Wilson.
Some years earlier he had met and courted a local lass, Vivian Naquin, while employed by the Austin Bridge Co. to build the Baldwin bridge.
The couple wedded a year later in 1941. Their time together was interrupted by World War II while J.W. joined the U.S. Army and served in Italy. After his honorable discharge they traveled together for several years on his job with Austin.
On their return to Franklin, J.W. opened the gas station on "Walden's Corner" in 1955 and ran the business until his retirement in 1985. He also drove a school bus for almost 20 years.
J.W. loved the outdoors and spent time fishing the local waters but most of all was an avid golfer.
He also was considered by friends and family members to be "a jack of all trades when it came to fixing things."
J.W. succumbed Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at 7:10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
He leaves behind Mrs. Vivian, his wife of 66 years; one son, Johnny Walden of Franklin; two daughters, Linda Walden Boudreaux and husband, Gary, of Greenwell Springs, and Debbie Walden Von Werder and husband, Allan, of Franklin; four brothers, E.F. Walden of Ada, Okla., Don Walden of Ada, Okla., Gene Walden of Memphis, Tenn., and Bill Walden of Ada, Okla.; three grandchildren, Barbara Boudreaux Gilley and her husband, Hal, of Destin, Florida, Rowdy Boudreaux and his wife, Wendy, of Franklin, and Angel Delcambre Higgins and her husband, Joey, of Charenton; and six great grandchildren, Cameron and Tyler Gilley, both of Destin, Kane and Koby Boudreaux, both of Franklin, Kale Delcambre of Charenton and McKayla Higgins of Charenton.
He was preceded in death by parents, James Mitt Walden and Jewel Woods Walden; and three brothers, Elmer, Randy, and Ed Walden.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, with the rosary being prayed at 12:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will officiate the services.

JULES ALEXANDER SR.
Jules Alexander Sr., 76, a resident of Charenton and native of Franklin, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at 11:25 a.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital, following a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Selena Alexander of Charenton; four sons, Jules Alexander Jr. of Austin, Texas, Verdice Alexander and Daryl Alexander, both of Charenton, and Earl Alexander of Baldwin; six daughters, Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Robinson II and Ophelia Lowe, both of Port Arthur, Texas, Mrs. Lee (Martha) Armelin, Mrs. Michael (Carlix) Randle and Penney Alexander, all of Charenton, and Mrs. Christopher (Sandra) Bourgeois of Jacksonville, Florida; one sister, Viola Delasbour; 21 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitations will be observed Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Charenton.
Funeral rites will be Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church. Interment will follow in the Godman Cemetery in Charenton.
The Jones Funeral Home, Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

ELLEANOR ARCENEAUX
Elleanor Arceneaux, 53, a resident of Houston, Texas and native of Baldwin, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Memorial Hermann Center in Houston.
She is survived by her mother, Hester Perston Arceneaux of Ashton; three sons, Jamie Laday of Ashton, Charles and Jeremy Laday of Houston; two daughters, Charlene Lawand Hill of Kingston, N.Y. and Tamara Arceneaux of Ashton; two brothers, Cleveland Arceneaux Jr. of Gettsburgh, Texas and Charles Arceneaux of New Iberia; four sisters, Dora Jackson and Mana Arceneaux, both of Ashton, Cathy Notto of Ashton and Dianne Arceneaux of Houston; and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Arceneaux was preceded in death by her father.
Visitations will be observed Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Burial rites will be read Tuesday, at 1 p.m., at that church. Interment will follow in the Sorrell Community Cemetery.
The Jones Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

HORACE A. BILLIOT SR.
Horace A. Billiot Sr., 81, a native of Morgan City and resident of Franklin since 1942, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at 6:30 p.m., at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia. He is survived by his wife, Ula Marie Sauce Billiot of Franklin; three sons, Larry Billiot and Lee Billiot Sr. of Franklin and Keith Billiot of Lafayette; four daughters, Ruby B. Mendoza of Franklin, Delores B. Frizzell of New Iberia and Dale B. Gauthier and Shelia B. Baudoin of Verdunville; two brothers, Floyd Billiot of Houma and Elton Billiot of Franklin; two sisters, Hazel Temple of Franklin and Lillian Kohlmiller of Marrero; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Mr. Billiot was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Katie Lovell Billiot; one son, Horace Billiot Jr.; one daughter, Brenda Billiot; five brothers, Willard, Morris, Elwood, Bobby and Gerald Billiot; one sister, Wilma Graham; and two grandchildren, Lee Billiot Jr. and Lia Maria Baudoin. Visitation will be held Friday, April 4, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary. Service will be Friday, at 4 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary. The Rev. Gott will officiate. Interment will be in the Perpetual Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

JUDY ASHLEY BILLIOT
Judy Ashley Billiot, 60, a native of Centerville and resident of Berwick, died Sunday, August 17, 2003 at 6:15 a.m. at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
Mrs. Billiot is survived by her husband, Joe Billiot of Berwick; one son, Bryan Billiot of Kenner; one daughter, Shannon Billiot Giroir, and her husband, Clint, of Morgan City; her mother, Ruth Mire Ashley of Franklin; one brother, Troy W. Ashley of Verdunville; and three grandchildren, Devin and Daryan Parvino and Austin Williams.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Franklin Ashley; and one brother, Don Malcolm Ashley.
Visitations will be held Monday, Aug. 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Calvary Bible Church in Centerville, and again on Tuesday at the church from 8 a.m. to service time.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the church, with the Rev. Paul Mortimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to help defray funeral expenses.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

RICHARD J. BONVILLAIN
Richard J. (Dickey) Bonvillain, 57, a former resident of Franklin, passed away June 16, 2006 in Oil City, Pennsylvania.
He was cremated in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Bonvillain is survived by his parents, Percy and Hilda Pichoff Bonvillain; one sister, Sharon Dupuy; two brothers, Gary and his wife, Johanna Bonvillain; Mitchell and his wife, Sheila Bonvillain; nine nieces and nephews; and special thanks to his caregiver, Edward Harris.
Locally, a memorial Mass, officiated by Father Michael Musso, will be celebrated Friday, June 23, at 3 p.m., at the Church of the Assumption.

DAVID 'LIL MAN' BORDELON
David "Lil Man" Bordelon, 38, a native and resident of Franklin, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at 6:25 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
He is survived by his life companion, Brandy L. Hope of Franklin; two brothers, Earl Bordelon Jr. and Mark J. Bordelon, both of Franklin; one sister, Nancy M. Bordelon of Franklin; and his mother, Mary Ann Fitch Bordelon of Thibodaux.
Mr. Bordelon was preceded in death by a son, Blaise Adam Bordelon; and his father, Earl L. Bordelon Sr.
Service will be Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m., at the Franklin Cemetery.

KENNETH BOUDREAUX SR.
Kenneth J. "Cannonball" Boudreaux Sr., 55, a native and former lifelong resident of Franklin, and a current resident of Abbeville for the past six months, died Monday, February 14, 2005, at 2:50 p.m., at his residence in Abbeville.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday, February 16, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
Visitations will resume Thursday morning at Ibert's from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Assumption. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
Mr. Boudreaux is survived by his wife, Jullaine "Jeannie" Eskind Boudreaux of Abbeville; three sons, Paul Boudreaux and his wife, Danielle, of Jeanerette; Kenneth 'Spit" Boudreaux Jr. and his wife, Kristie, of Lafayette; Jason E. and his wife, Iesha, of Franklin; one daughter, Suzi Boudreaux of Franklin; three sisters, Rose Mary B. Charpentier and her husband, Willie, of Baldwin; Joy B. Boudreaux and her husband, Wade, of Jeanerette; and Joyce B. Goodman and her husband, Dan, of Baldwin; sister-in-law, Ruth Boudreaux; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Carol Alcina Boudreaux; his parents, Roosevelt Louis Boudreaux and Roberta Darce Boudreaux; two sisters, Rosetta and Madge Boudreaux; and one brother, Larry Boudreaux Sr.
Mr. Boudreaux was formerly employed by Sterling Sugars in Franklin for 17 years. He was currently employed by Supreme Services of Broussard.
Pallbearers will be Paul Boudreaux, Kenneth Boudreaux Jr., Willie Charpentier Jr., Wade Boudreaux Jr., Ernest Landry and Danny Eskind.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Boudreaux and David Champagne.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

BERT HENRY BURGESS
Bert Henry Burgess, 85, a native and lifelong resident of Charenton, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at 4 p.m., at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Marcotte Burgess of Charenton; five sons, Rev. Michael Bert Burgess of Flora, Mississippi, Kenneth Burgess of Abbeville, Gerald James Burgess of Wasailla, Alaska, Ernest Oneal Burgess of Virginia and Craig Henry Burgess of Charenton; five daughters, Carolyn Ann Savage of Charenton, Linda Ball of Gansevoort, New York, Annies Lee Burgess of Charenton, Diane Marie Turner of Homer, Alaska and Melissa Lynn Andujo of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; one brother, LeRoy Burgess of Charenton; one sister, Seniolla proctor of Charenton; 28 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his father, William Burgess; his mother, Mamie Vilcan Burgess; two brothers, Harvey Adam Burgess and Norwood Huey Burgess; and one sister, Helen Marie Marcotte.
Visitation will be held Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to time of service, at Little Pass Baptist Church in Charenton.
Service will be Thursday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m., at that church. The Rev. Michael Bert Burgess and the Rev. Bobby Hodnett will officiate.
Entombment will follow in the Chitimacha Mausoleum.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

LORENA M. BUTEAUX
Lorena Miguez Buteaux, 80, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, died Thursday, January 27, 2005, at 5:20 a.m., at Maison De Lafayette Nursing Home in Lafayette.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed Friday, January 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary, with a rosary service at 1:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary, with Deacon Douglas Hebert officiating. Interment followed in the Franklin Cemetery.
Ms. Buteaux is survived by three sons Thonis Lose Buteaux Jr. and his wife, Nell, of Patterson; Harry Paul Buteaux and his wife, Ayliffe, of Lafayette and Ovide Anthony Buteaux and his wife, Cheryl "Sue," of New Iberia; two sisters, Esther M. Richard and Eula Mae M. Harrison, both of Franklin; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Ms. Buteaux was preceded in death her husband, Thonis Lose Buteaux; four brothers, Robert, Ovide, Henry and Herman Miguez; one sister, Rita M. Hood; and her parents, Desire Miguez and Olivia Hebert Miguez.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

WARREN BUTLER JR.
Warren Butler Jr., 53, a resident of Port Arthur, Texas and native of Patterson, died suddenly Friday, July 18, 2003, in Port Arthur.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn Butler of Port Arthur; parents, Mrs. James Etta Butler of Patterson and Warren Butler Sr. of Port Arthur; five sons, Warren Butler III, Gregory Butler, Dion Cage, all of Patterson, Corey Smith and Derrick Butler of Port Arthur; four daughters, Iris Antoinetta Butler, Felicia Williams, both of Port Arthur, Carolyn Rambo of Houston, Texas and Mireyea Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Mary Etta Johnson of Houston; two aunts, Lizzie M. Cooper of Sacramento, California and Annie Augustine of Patterson; and 15 grandchildren.
Visitations will be observed Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at New Salem Baptist Church.
Burial rites will be read Friday, at 1 p.m., at that church. The Rev. Calhoun will officiate. Lafayette Crematory will handle the interment.
The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

WALTER BUTLER
Mr. Walter Butler, 79, a resident of Patterson and native of Berwick, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at 2:10 p.m., at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, following a short illness.
He is survived by his formal wife, Shirley Moton Williams of Patterson; one stepson, Reginald Augman of Patterson; one daughter, Regina Butler James of Patterson; one stepdaughter, Renita Garrison of Patterson; one brother, Leroy Butler of Patterson; one sister, Dorothy Butler McGuire of Patterson; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; and one step grandson.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitations will be observed Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Little Zion Baptist Church in Berwick.
Burial rites will be read Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at that church. The Rev. W.J. Otis will officiate. Interment will follow in the Patterson Memorial Cemetery.
The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

LEROY BUTLER SR.
Leroy "Sport" Butler Sr., 78, a resident of Verdunville and native of Centerville, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at 11:12 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital following a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Iris K. Butler of Verdunville; four sons, Johnny (Constance) Butler, Fred (Faye) Butler of Franklin, Leroy Jr. (Brenda) Butler of California and Brett Butler of Lafayette; one adopted son, Brian K. Thomas of Verdunville; two daughters, Barbara B. Notto and Brenda B. Phillips of Franklin; one stepdaughter, Debra Ann Narcisse of New Jersey; one daughter-in-law, Lejoy Butler of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; seven brothers, Henry (Lillian) Butler of Carencro, Joseph (Mary), Lloyd (Mary Ann), Hilliard (Lillie), all of Verdunville, William (Ethel) of Beaumont, Texas, Floyd (Earline), Paul (Darlene) Butler, both of Houston, Texas; one sister, Wanda B. (Marshall) Lee of Baldwin; one sister-in-law, Rose Butler of Boutte, La.; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Nazarene Baptist Church in Verdunville.
Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church. The Rev. Charles Moncriffe will officiate. Interment will follow in the Nazarene Cemetery.
