Donald J. Azevedo
Donald J. Azevedo, a registered electrical engineer, died Friday in a local hospital. He was 69.
A native of Concord, Calif., and a resident of Mobile, he was retired from Dupont.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley M. Azevedo of Mobile; two sons, Jim Azevedo and Steven Azevedo, both of Mobile; and three grandchildren.
A private service will be held by the family. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway is in charge of arrangements.

George E. Strickland
George Edward Strickland died Sunday at his home in Mobile.
He is survived by his wife, Helen C. "Pud" Strickland of Mobile; and two sons, Michael Strickland of Mobile and Alan Forbes of Denver, Colo.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Radney-Bellmany Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Rosalie P. Young
Rosalie Pierce Young, a retired bus driver for the Mobile County Public School System, died Friday in a local hospital. She was 76.
A lifelong resident of Mobile County, she is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Franklin and Darlene Phillips, both of Lucedale, Miss., and Elizabeth Jackson of Mobile; four sons, Marshall B. Young of Dover, Tenn., Raymond E. Young of Lucedale, and Clyde E. Young and David M. Young, both of Mobile; two sisters, Lucille Nix of Mobile, and Maurice Havens of Lucedale; a brother, Robert Pierce of Mobile; 27 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Magnolia Funeral Home on Grelot Road. Burial will be in Pierce Creek Cemetery.

Mildred E. Kirkham
SWEET WATER - Mildred Etheridge Kirkham, who had been an examiner at Vanity Fair in Demopolis, died Saturday at an area nursing home. She was 87.
A native and resident of Sweet Water, she is survived by her husband, B. Leo Kirkham of Sweet Water; three sons, Bobby Kirkham of Huntsville, Wallace Kirkham of Sweet Water, and Benny Kirkham of Tomball, Texas; a brother, Aaron Etheridge of Sweet Water; two sisters, Emma Hill of Demopolis, and Mattie Rhea Manderson of Selma; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral home in Thomasville. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Sweet Water. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.

Forrest K. Dowty Jr.
Forrest Kent Dowty Jr., a native of Lafayette, La., and a resident of Mandeville, La., died Friday. He was 50.
Survivors include his wife, Holly Francis Dowty of Mandeville, La.; a daughter, Courtney Dowty of Kansas City, Kansas; a stepson, Mitchell Francis; a stepdaughter, Shawnna Francis; his father, Forrest Kent Dowty Sr.; and two sisters, Kathleen Falgoust and Rhena Friloux.
Visitation is set for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schoen Funeral Home in Covington, La. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Willie ``Bill'' Collins
A native of Choctaw Bluff, AL and resident of Mobile, AL, born July 25, 1931 departed this life on Thursday, June 21, 2001 at a local hospital. He was an active and dedicated member of Central Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member. Mr. Collins was a member of the Morning Star Singers for over 47 years and was an employee at St. Mary's Home. He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Glover Collins; three loving children, Mary Portis, Brenda (Bonner) Nic holson and Gwendolyn (Willie) Henderson, all of Mobile, AL; five devoted grandchildren, Jevell Nicholson, Sommerlyn Mitchell, LaCren a Nicholson, Ashley Nicholson and Dana Mitchell; one sister, Zeola Perine; three brothers, John Henry Collins, Choctaw Bluff, AL, David Collins and Mack Vae (Lemelia) Collins, all of Mobile, AL; one devoted son-in-law, Willie Nicholson, III; three sisters-in-law a nd a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Ernest M. Flowers, Jr.
Age 81, a native of Mobile, Alabama and a resident of Saraland, Alabama died on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at a local veteran's home. He was a decorated Worl d War II veteran. Mr. Flowers was a member of Saraland United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Independent Grocers Association and held past memberships in the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Abba Temple and VFW Local #7320. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Manning Flowers, Sr. and Annie W. Flowers; son, Ernest M. Flowers, III; brother, John S. Flowers; two granddaughters, Brandi R. Hinton and Laura Along. A long time resident of Bay Minette, a member of the First Baptist Church, retired owner and operator of Genevieve's Kitchen, died Sunday morning, June 24, 20 01 at a local hospital. She was 85 years old. Helen Rae Lott
Helen was a retiree from International Pap er Company after 35 years. She was a native of Laure l, Mississippi but lived a long life in Mobile, Alabama. She died at the age of 69 in a local hospital on June 22, 2001. Helen was a member of Sage Avenue Baptist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and member of Amaranth, the Kiwanis Club, active in the Senior Citizens Club in Navarre Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Sam Allen Lott, Sr., her mother, Minnie Estelle Dew, her father, Roy Desmond Wolgamott, her sister, Minnie Faye Buckalew and her brother, Roy Wolgamott. Her survivors include her seven children, Amanda Crawford, Sam Allen ``Bubba'' Lott, Jr., Tony Lott, Gary Lott, Lois Munster, Brenda Donald, Ann Floyd; two brothers of Laurel, Mississippi, Vernon Wolgamott and Hollis Wolgamott. She also has a special granddaughter, Miranda Rae Crawford; 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many other relatives and many other relatives and friends. She has a husband of Navarre, FL, Mr. Frank Wells for the past five years. She will always be in our hearts and Souls for eternity. Dale M. Shannon
Ret. Sr. Master Sgt. USAF, of Moncks Corner died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at a local nursing home. Born in Clinton, Minnesota to the late Merlyn and Hazel Swank Shannon. He was the loving husband for 55 years to Miriam P. Shannon. He was a retired 27-year veteran of the United States Air Force. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Michael (Mick) H. Shannon and wife, Jo of Mobile, Alabama, David (Pat) Shannon and wife, Susie of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Donna Shannon Cowden and husband, Doug of Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Essie Eskridge Turner
Age 88, a resident of Atmore and Mobile for many years died on Friday, June 22, 2001 at a local nursing facility. She was born January 14, 1913 in Moro, Alabama in a log cabin on a cold snowy day to Nancy Virginia Chadwick and Luther B. Sanders. Mr. G.C. ``Clarence'' Vincent
A native of Talladega, AL and a resident of South Mobile County for 60 years died in his sleep Sunday, June 24, 2001 at his residence in Coden. Mr. Vincent was a practicing barber for 75 years, many times accepting barter or trade for his services and giving away many hair cuts over the years. He was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church and a member of Charles Haynes Masonic Lodge #627 F&AM for over 50 years. He accepted the Lord as his savior in 1947 ``under the tent'' at Coden Bible Church. Mr. Vincent holds a US patent on a medical device he developed. He was an enthusiastic hobbyist in clock making and repair, donating many to churches in the area. His greatest joy was sharing the gospel using time and the clock he made from bicycle parts. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Bertha Taylor Vincent and one sister, Edna Parker. He is survived by one daughter, Betty and her husband, Richard Vining of Coden; two brothers, Alfred (Lannie) Vincent and Eugene (Dixie) Vincent, both of Carthage, MS; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Taylor of Biloxi, MS and Rene Taylor of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Roderick (Dorothy) Vining of Irvington, AL and Roxanne (Peter) Garland of Goldendale, WA; two great grandchildren, William Vining and Benjamin Vining; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
