Obituaries for the Suwannee Democrat Dec. 10, 2003 issue

James Elbert Cochran

James Elbert Cochran, 79, of Ocala, passed away at his home on Dec. 5, 2003. A lifetime resident of Ocala he was president of J.B. Cochran & Sons Construction and Jiffy Food Stores, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Ocala Elks Lodge No. 286.

He is survived by: two daughters, Valerie Joy Cochran, Mayo and Lisa Marie Cochran, Ocala; one son, James Ronnie Cochran, Live Oak; two sisters, Theresa C. Daniels, Ocala and Joyce C. Miller, Jasper; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lynn Starkey, and a son Steve Cochran.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Dec. 7, at Hiers Funeral Home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, with Brother Ron Lumpkin officiating.

Hiers Funeral Home of Ocala was in charge of all arrangements.

A. J. Touchton

A. J. Touchton, 69, passed away, Dec. 9, 2003, in a local hospital. A native of Mayo, he was born Feb. 15, 1934, to Crawford and Susie Rodgers Touchton. He has been a resident of DeFuniak Springs since 1969 moving from Ft. Walton Beach after retiring from the United States Air Force as a Tech Sgt after 22 years service. Touchton worked with the Walton County Road Department and also with the DeFuniak Springs Housing Authority. He was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Center Ridge Methodist church and he enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren and being surrounded by his family.

Survivors include: three sons, Andy Touchton and wife Vickey of DeFuniak Springs, Joe Touchton and wife Joyce of Sigonella, Italy and Chuck Touchton and wife Pamela of DeFuniak Springs; two daughters, Lynn Snell and husband Ed of Ozark, Ala. and Lori Thorsen of Pensacola; one sister, Myrtis Jones of Branford; nine grandchildren, Frankie Touchton, Dillan Touchton, Megan Hessler, Drew Touchton, Wendell Kelly and wife Heather, Melissa Pinner and husband David, Erin Mixon and husband Monnie, Richard Thorsen and wife Amber and Ben Thorsen and fianc/ Lola; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Tyler, Chelsea, Olivia and Mackenzie; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Crawford and Susie Touchton and one brother Gene Touchton.

Funeral services will be held in Branford at 2 p.m., today, Dec. 12, at the Branford Church of God, 306 SW US 27, 1/386/935-6806, with the Rev. Dale Dansby officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery, Branford.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Dec. 11, at 2 p.m., at the Chapel of Clary-Godwin-Comander Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Cook officiating.

In lieu of floral arrangements the family requests you may make donations to your favorite charity.

Clary-Godwin-Comander Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements in DeFuniak Springs and Daniels Funeral Home of Branford is in charge of local arrangements.

Alene L. Peddie

Alene L. Peddie, 72, a resident of Live Oak, passed away Dec. 4, 2003, in the Shands at AGH Hospital, Gainesville, following a long illness. A native of Suwannee County, the daughter of the late Preston "Loke" and Mary Louise Hamm Jowers, she resided in Suwannee county for most of her life, was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: her husband, Reginald D. Peddie of Live Oak; three step-sons, Reginald Peddie III, Ronnie Peddie and Donnie Peddie all of Burdolph, N.C.; four step-daughters, Edna Peddie and Veda Peddie, both of Burdolph, N.C, Sharon Peddie of Florida and Glenda Peddie of Texas; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Suwannee Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 68, Live Oak, FL 32064.

Suwannee Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

William "Bill" Williams

William "Bill" Williams, 45, passed away at his home in McAlpin, Dec. 8, 2003, after an extended illness. Born in Boynton Beach, Aug. 28, 1958, he moved to North Florida from West Palm Beach in 1998.

Survivors include: his companion, Linda Brooks, McAlpin; his mother, Kitty Rankin, O'Brien; daughter, Rose Elizabeth Williams, Tavares; three brothers, Dexter Williams, Ocala, Dillard Williams, Bronson, and Mack Williams, Springfield, Ill.; and one sister, Debbie Armstrong, Lake City.

Services are pending.

Edgar Coventry

Edgar Coventry, 67, passed away Dec. 8, 2003 in Gainesville. A native of Corrine, Okla. he moved to Live Oak from Hollywood in 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Coventry was employed by Wal-Mart and a member of the Luraville Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Betty Coventry of Live Oak; two daughters, Cheryl Lombardo of Davie and Stacy Flores of Tallahassee; one son, Scott Coventry, Weston; a sister, Elma Miraglia, Richmond Heights, Mo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Obituary for the Branford News Dec. 11, 2003 issue

David Keith Lewis

David Keith Lewis, 72 passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, at his home following a short illness.

The Ashtabula, Ohio native was born July 29, 1931. He was owner/operator of Lewis Pharmacy in Safety Harbor, Fl. He retired in 1989 and moved to the Branford area.

Mr. Lewis was an officer/treasurer of Save Our Suwannee Association and member of San Juan Catholic Mission in Branford.

Survivors include, his wife, Rose Marie Lewis of Branford; six daughters, Jeanne Schultz of Clearwater, Terry S. Lewis, Orlando, Michelle West of Nashville, TN, Elaine Davis of Oldsmar, Mary Lovell of Jacksonville, and Vicki Abramowitz of Clearwater; one son David Kirk Lewis of Maynard, Mass. Eleven grandchildren also survive.

Funeral mass was conducted Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. in San Juan Catholic Mission with Father Edward Murphy officiating.

Visitation was held Monday, evening 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to San Juan Catholic Church 304 Plant Ave., Branford, Florida, 32008; Save Our Suwannee, P. O. Box 669, Bell, Florida, 32619 or Hospice of North Central Florida, 801 SW 2nd Ave. Gainesville, Fl.

Daniels Funeral Home of Branford was in charge of all arrangements.

Obituaries for the Jasper News Dec. 11, 2003 issue

Lieutenant Mallory R. Daniels

Lieutenant Mallory R. Daniels, 58, of Jasper, passed away at his home, Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003. Daniels was a native and life resident of Jasper. He was employed by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office for twenty-nine years where he served the community as deputy and investigator. He was a Mason and Shriner and was a member of Jasper First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-five years, Cheryl Daniels, Jasper; one son, Greg Daniels (Dawn), Ozark, Alabama; two daughters, Kim Croft, Valdosta, GA. and Erica Stubbs (Richard), Jasper; one brother, Tommy Daniels (Diane), Jasper; four grandchildren, Tory Croft, Zach Daniels, Dawson Daniels and Cara Stubbs.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Jasper First Baptist Church with Rev. Kent Crow officiating. Baker County Sheriff's Office provided an Honor Guard with full honors provided at the graveside. Pallbearers were: Mel Black, David Ehlert, Bill Pfile, Harrell Belote, Greg Beck, Denny Minnett, Trammel Dees and Frank Osborne. Honorary pallbearers were: Dale Waters, Rod Rodgers, Charles Thompkins, David Bembry, John Peach, Albert Jones and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The "Last Call" from Hamilton County Sheriff's Office went out to 56-3.

"Jasper to 56-3, attention all units, 56-3 is now 10-7, 10-42 Rest in Peace."

Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Paul E. Carter

Paul E. Carter, Sr., 77, of Horseshoe, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at Gainesville VA Medical Center, Gainesville following an illness of some time. Paul retired from Occidental Chemcial Co. where he worked for many years in the sanitation dept. and was a Veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Carter and a son, Pace Randall Carter.

Survivors include two sons, Paul E. Carter Jr., Albany, GA and Raymond "Charlie" Carter, Lake Park, GA.; one daughter, Patsy Rogers, Lake Park, Ga.; two sisters, Floy Williams and opal Medders; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Carter, Jennings, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 3 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Rev. Timmy Smith officiating.

Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
