Alverta S. Waltrip
Alverta S. Waltrip, age 89, of Campbell, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2006, Jasper, Florida, at the home of her daughter. Ms. Waltrip was born in Kennett, Missouri, on January 28, 1917, to the late Walter and Nancy Jane Summers. She was a homemaker. Ms. Waltrip was preceded in death by her husbands, J.E. Sale in 1973, and Virgil Waltrip in 1982. She was also preceded by three daughters: Betty McMillin, Margaret Burleson and Martha Jane Sale; one son: James Henry Sale; three sisters: Palestine Welty, Mabel Reeves and Lucille Summers; four grandchildren: Paul Sale, Danny Lee McMillin, Bryan Burleson and Terry Sale.
Survivors include two sons: David Sale (Barbara) of Swartz Creek, Michigan, and Billy Joe Sale (Peggy) of Newton, Alabama; two daughters: Wilma Ezell (Gary) of Jasper, and Peggy Waltrip (Jack) of Gaines, Michigan; one step daughter, Mary Ann Waltrip Isaacs of Clarkton, Missouri; two sisters: Mary Tucker of Mackesney Park, Illinois, and Rosetta Wayne of Kennett, Missouri; three special daughters-in-laws: Gladys Morris, Barbara Sale and Ola Marie Sale; 36 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Missouri with burial in Stanfield Cemetery, Clarkton, Missouri.

Sybil Smith Williams
Sybil Smith Williams, age 81, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006, in Lake City, Florida, following a brief illness. The Hamilton County native was born October 9, 1924, to the late Horace and Pearl Bass. She was a homemaker and was a member of Jasper Church of God.
Survivors include one son, Michael Smith of Lake City; four daughters: Bonnie Price of Lake City, Nora Dees of Jasper, Deborah McMillan of Lake City, and Cynthia Hurst of Jasper; three brothers: James “Brownie” Bass of O’Brien, Florida, Billy Bass of Cross City, Florida, and Jimmy Lee Bass of Zephyrhills, Florida; two sisters: Mabel Hunter of Jasper, and Betty Jo Foster of Jennings, Florida; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 30, 2006, in the Jasper Church of God with Reverend Gary Thigpen officiating. Interment
followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Andrea Lynn McGrew
Andrea Lynn McGrew, age 58, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Mrs. McGrew was born November 28, 1947, in Kearney, New Jersey and lived for a time in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She moved to the Jasper area from Atlanta, Georgia, five years ago. Mrs. McGrew was a retired medical records clerk and former employee of the Jasper News. She was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, George McGrew of Jasper; one son, David Koda of Ft. Lauderdale; one daughter, Debra Simone of Hollywood, Florida; seven step-children: Myles, Brian and Patrick McGrew, Colleen Carrol, Shawn Perez, Erin Bland and Megan McGrew; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, April 29, 2006, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Floyd officiating. Mrs. Vonnie Wood sang. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church (Building and Grounds) 207 NE 2nd St., Jasper, FL 32052.

Larry Brean Castleberry
Larry Brean Castleberry, age 66, of Statenville, Georgia, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. Mr. Castleberry was born March 2, 1940, to the late Rhoden Stephen Castleberry and Clariece Castleberry. He was employed by Allison Metal Fabrication, Inc. in Valdosta, Georgia.
Survivors include three sons: Gary Castleberry of Statenville, James Castleberry (Christina) of Haylow, Georgia, and Joey Castleberry (Susan) of Statenville; two brothers: Jimmy Castleberry (Yvonne) of Hahira, Georgia, and Gilbert Castleberry (Joyce) of Moultrie, Georgia; three sisters: Shalyne Wilson (Kenny), Sharie Yarbourgh (James), and Jan Castleberry, all of Valdosta; eight grandchildren: Alexis, Brean, Heather, Jamie, Megan, Chelsie, Dalton and Jaycee Castleberry; and one great-grandchild, Hunter Brean Castleberry.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 27, 2006, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Reverend Chris McCain officiating. Interment
followed in Hebron Cemetery.

Joe Lee Goodbread
Joe Lee Goodbread, age 83, of Jasper, Florida, passed away Friday morning in a local nursing home. Mr. Goodbread was a native of Suwannee County and had lived in Jasper for the past 29 years after moving here from Fort Lauderdale Florida. He was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church, a retired farmer and served in the United States Navy for four years.
Survivors include his wife, Vi Goodbread of Jasper; one daughter, Sheryl Goodbread of Jasper; two sisters: Mary King of Avon Park, Florida, and Rae Kiser of Pompano, Florida; several nieces and nephews as well as great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday, April 17, 2006, in the Evergreen Cemetery of Jasper with the Reverend Dale Ames officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Jasper United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1298, Jasper, Florida 32052, or Florida’s Sheriffs Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, Florida 32064.

Mary Elizabeth Ragan Laseter
Mary Elizabeth Ragan Laseter, age 90, of Jennings, Florida, passed away at her home Tuesday, April 4, 2006. The Hamilton County native and lifelong resident was a homemaker and member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Laseter was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Laseter.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, W.C. “Billy” And Jo Ann Laseter of Jasper, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Richard Howard of Foley, Alabama; one brother, Byron Ragan of Waterford, Ohio; four grandchildren: Debbie Crowley, Johnny Chandler, Cary Laseter and Gretchen Laseter; three great-grandchildren: Hope Chandler, Garrett Laseter and Trayson Laseter.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, 2006, at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Cordero officiating.
Interment
followed in the church cemetery.

Juan Samuel Hernandez Sr.
Juan Samuel Hernandez Sr., age 77, of Jennings, Florida, died Saturday, in a local nursing home. Mr. Hernandez was a native of Donna, Texas, and a resident of Jennings since 1986 when he moved from Suwannee County. He attended Calvary Baptist of Lake Park and was a retired heavy equipment mechanic.
Survivors include three sons: Nieves Hernandez of Jennings, Juan Hernandez Jr. and Abraham Hernandez both of Live Oak, Florida; two daughters: Cecilia McElwain of Jennings and Rosa Hernandez of Luraville, Florida; two brothers: Lino Hernandez of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Reyes Hernandez of Donna; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Sarah E. Peterson
Sarah E. Peterson, age 90, of Jennings, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006, in Port Orange, Florida, following a brief illness. Ms. Peterson was born November 17, 1915, to the late Arthur and Texas Missouri Markham and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Daphine Condrey and a son, Jacky Lee Drury.
Survivors include one son, Buddy Drury of Jennings, Florida; two daughters: Margie Lee and Sandra Kay Davis of Port Orange; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, 2006, at Jennings Assembly of God Church with Reverend Ralph Blackman officiating.
Interment
followed in Chiefland Cemetery, Chiefland, Florida.

Arthur O. Houle
Arthur O. Houle, age 73, of Holly Hill, Florida, passed away Monday, March 20, 2006, in Volusia County. He was born in Lowville, New York, and was a former resident of Valdosta, Georgia. Mr. Houle retired from Owens-Illinois in Clyattville, Georgia, after 20 years and was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Gladys Latrelle Houle, and a son, Larry A. Houle.
Survivors include his wife, (formerly of Hamilton County) Margaret Drury Houle of Holly Hill; three children: Jerome Houle (Kathy) of Chula, Georgia, Steven Houle (Kelly) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sandra Houle Hagin of Jacksonville, Florida; four step-daughters: Denise Depew (Mike) of Jennings, Florida, Connie Moore (Jimmy) of Lakeland, Georgia, Donna Deas of Valdosta, Georgia, and Mary Wachob (Nathan) of Tallahassee, Florida; one sister, Terry Boss (Leonard) of Titusville, Florida; a sister-in-law, Betty Albritton of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and one step-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 25, 2006, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Reverend Nathan Wachob officiating. Interment

Genester Louise Cooper
Genester Louise Cooper, age 77, of Live Oak, Florida, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Kindred Hospital North Florida in Green Cove Springs, Florida. The Hamilton County native was born June 21, 1928, to the late John and Rena Cumbess. She was a manger for Suwannee Swifty Stores for 16 years and was a former employee of Kayo’s Drug Store in Jasper, Florida. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Jasper Church of God.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Burnice Cooper of Live Oak; two sons: Bobby Cooper of Live Oak, and Andy Cooper of Jasper; two daughters: Yonna Lanier of Live Oak, and Sheila Bennett of Jasper; one brother, Jeremiah Cumbess of Jasper; one sister, Judy Lee of Live Oak; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 10, 2006, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Reverend Justin Young officiating. Interment

Ivey Fernell Hester, age 63, of Fargo, Georgia, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006, in Cleveland, Tennessee, at the home of his daughter. Hester was born in Hamilton County, Florida, on January 28, 1943, to the late Ivey and Leola Hester and was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church in Colquitt, Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Lue Bell Hester of Fargo, eight children: Jody Hester Carver of Blackshear, Georgia; Spence Hester Carver of West Virginia; Cindy Parson of Cleveland, Tennessee; Cathy Merkison of Bainbridge, Georgia; Clara Thomas of Blacksheer; Johnny Ellis of Memphis, Tennessee; Danny Ellis of Jacksonville, Florida; and Joey Ellis of Naylor, Georgia; two sisters: Maureen Fourakre of Atlanta, Georgia, and Valorie Rohe of Garfield, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Lucille Hester of Jasper, Florida; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Wendell Hill officiating. Interment
followed in Fargo Cemetery.

Johnnie “John” Norman Hudson
Johnnie “John” Norman Hudson, age 67, of Mayo, Florida, passed away early Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. John was born in Tarpon Springs, Florida, on February 21, 1939, to the late John and Leola Hudson. He was a retired contractor in the fiber optics cable business and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hudson of Mayo; three sons: John Keith Hudson of O’Brien, Florida; Robert Lee Hudson of Immokalee, Florida; and Charles F. Brantley Jr. of Jasper, Florida; one daughter, Norma Jo Cobb of Arcadia, Alabama; two sisters: Sheral Hamlin and Patricia Ingle, both of Mayo; and ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 9, 2006, in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Home in Jasper, Florida. Reverend Euley Hudson officiated the services.
