Jean Dover Elliott
Jean D. Elliott, 58, died March 15, 2004, in Mosul, Iraq. She and her husband, Larry, were missionaries for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.
Jean was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Shelby to the late Robert and Irene Roberts Dover. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1963. She attended Appalachian State University for two years, where she met and married Larry Elliott of Granville County. She felt the call of God to missions in 1972. While Larry attended seminary in Wake Forest, Jean completed her degree in home economics from Meredith College. She graduated with honors in 1977 and completed a year of graduate study at the seminary. Larry and Jean were appointed Southern Baptist missionaries in June 1978. They spent the next 25 years ministering to the people of Honduras. Last year, yielding again to the call of God, she and Larry began making preparations to transfer to Baghdad, Iraq, to begin humanitarian work there.
Jean is survived by two sons, Scott Elliott and his wife, Leia, of Raleigh, Todd Elliott and wife, Carol, of Arlington, Va.; one daughter, Dr. Gina Kim and husband, Dr. H. Chu Kim, of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Jimmy (Barbara) Dover of Matthews and Bill (Judy) Dover of Shelby; four sisters, Nancy (Buford) Ellis and Carolyn (Jerry) Ledford, both of Shelby, Joyce (Ron) Whitten of Rising Sun, Ind., and Mary (Ronnie) Wilson of Kings Mountain; and nine grandchildren, Conner, Cody, Carson and Katie Elliott, Clark and Blake Elliott, and Addison, Meredith and Mackenzie Kim.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 25, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Cary, 218 S. Academy St. Burial will follow at Grassy Creek Baptist Church, 9142 Grassy Creek-Virgilina Road, Bullock.
The family received friends Wednesday evening, March 24, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.

Larry Thomas Elliott
Larry T. Elliott, 60, died March 15, 2004, in Mosul, Iraq. He and his wife, Jean, were missionaries for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.
Larry was born Oct. 12, 1943, in South Boston, Va., to the late Conway and Lelia Nolan Elliott. He was raised in Granville County and graduated valedictorian from Oak Hill High School in 1962. He earned a degree in textile engineering from N.C. State University in 1966. While in college, he met and married Jean Dover of Shelby. After college, he served three years as an officer of the U.S. Army in Germany and Vietnam. In 1975, he felt the call of God to missions. Answering the call, he moved his family to Wake Forest to attend seminary, where he received a master of divinity degree. He and Jean were appointed Southern Baptist missionaries in June 1978. Larry and Jean spent the next 25 years ministering to the people of Honduras. John Bruce Grimm
John B. Grimm, 61, died March 15, 2004. He was a former resident of Cary for the past 14 years and was retired from Nortel Networks.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Constance of Apex; son, Thomas Cali of Wixom, Mich.; two daughters, Sara Grimm of Apex and Julie Cali of Fife Lake, Mich.; father, Lavon Grimm of Westland, Mich.; three brothers, Thomas Grimm, Terry Grimm and Michael Grimm, all of Plymouth, Mich.; one sister, Mary Lee Groth of Massachussetts; one granddaughter, Gabrielle Poole of Apex; and a niece, Jillian Groth of Massachussetts.
A memorial service was held Friday, March 19, at 3 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
Roland Hughes Hayes
Roland H. Hayes, 87, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at Mayview Convalescent Center.
He was born to Jasper and Rosa Hayes in Lenoir County. He was a member of the Raleigh William G. Hill Masonic Lodge and the Scottish rite. Mr. Hayes retired as a sales representative from Boyle Midway, a division of American Home Products.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey of Cary; one daughter, Beverly Allen and her husband, Terry, of Cary; a twin brother, R.B. Hayes of Goldsboro; three sisters, Essie Mae Peterson of Kinston, Doris Grady of Deep Run and Mary Hill of Clayton; two grandchildren, Jennifer A. Rose and her husband, David, of Apex and Tyler Allen of Cary; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Thursday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh. The family received friends in the church parlor prior to the service. Burial followed at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to the staff at Mayview Convalescent Center for the loving care that Mr. Hayes received for the past two years.

Lucille Hearne Swaney
Lucille Hearne Swaney, a long-time resident of Cary and previously of Norfolk, Va., died at Western Wake Medical Center on Sunday, March 21, 2004. She was 97.
A native of Greenville, she was the oldest living of 10 children born to Louisa Star May and W.A.B. Hearne. She received her bachelor's degree from East Carolina University and her master's from the University of Virginia. She was a junior high school science teacher for 35 years and retired at age 66. Lucille taught in Kitty Hawk and Washington, N.C., and Norfolk, Va. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Society and a charter member at Woodland Terrace in Cary.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Bill Hearne of Clifton Forge, Va., Champ Hearne of Virginia Beach, Va., and her sister, Laura Marcus of Pasadena, Calif. She is survived by her brother, Marcellus B. Hearne of Woodland Terrace, Cary; and Star May Williams of Phoenix, Ariz., Ada Ray of Cary and Venetia Pentecost of Cary.

LeRoy 'Roy' Smith
LeRoy "Roy" Smith of Raleigh, a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and friend of many, died Sunday, March 21 , 2004. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Judy Edwards Smith; sons, Kevin LaRoy Smith and wife, Amanda Ellen, of Wilmington, and Jeffrey Beal Smith and wife, Amanda Lanclos, of League City, Texas; grandchildren, Harrison Lee Smith and Tylar Cotton; and his special nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Retha Mae Corbett Smith.
He attended Whiteville High School, graduating in 1957, and continued his education at N.C. State University. LeRoy was employed as an engineer with the N.C. Department of Transportation, Roadway Design, for 30 years. An advocate for youth sports, he spent many hours at the Wilders Grove Youth Center. He enjoyed bowling and golf with his friends in Raleigh, Apex and the Carpenter community. For 35 years, fishing with the "McClammers" and his "buddies" at the N.C. Outer Banks was also one of his great passions.
A memorial service conducted by Pastor Mike Gast will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at St. James United Methodist Church, Raleigh, where LeRoy was a member. The family will receive friends after the service at the church and at all other times at the home. The Rev. Jim Boltz will conduct a private graveside service in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Carpenter.

Myrtle Ann Dean
Myrtle Ann Dean, 56, of Raleigh, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at her home.
A graveside service conducted by the Rev. Peter Dubbleman was held Wednesday, March 24, at New Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, New Hill.
Mrs. Dean is survived by her daughter, Erika Dean of the home; mother, Meriam Matthews of Cary; stepsons, Eric and Michael Dean of Raleigh; nieces, Jennifer Smith of Apex and Cindy Deleur of Apex; and many other family and friends who loved her.
The family received friends Tuesday evening, March 23, at Apex Funeral Home.
Carl L. Dasen
Carl Leroy Dasen, 82, of Cary died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Western Wake Medical Center in Cary.
Mr. Dasen was one of nine children born to the late Theodore and Louise R. Dasen. He grew up in Flint, Mich., and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. The family lived in Saginaw, Mich., where he was an engineer with Lufkin Rule (now Cooper Tools), moving to North Carolina in the late 1960s when the new plant was opened in Apex. He retired from Cooper Tools several years ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Mae Winch Dasen, who died in 1995, as well as brothers, Harold, Gerald, Arnold and Ted, and sisters, Marguerite, Dorothy and Alice.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Barnhardt of Apex; sons, Alan Dasen and his wife, Faye, of Southern Pines, Dale Dasen and his wife, Carrie, of Youngsville, Wayne Dasen and Dennis Dasen, both of Cary; a sister, Loretta Oberpriller and her husband, Herb, of Flint, Mich.; and grandchildren, Wesley and Lenora Dasen of Southern Pines, David and Lindsey Barnhardt of Apex and Rachel and Laura Dasen of Youngsville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 25, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Anthony A. Ceccarelli
A memorial Mass for Anthony A. Ceccarelli will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary, on Friday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
Mr. Ceccarelli, 46, of Cary, formerly of Aliquippa, Pa., died at home on Dec. 22, 2003, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 23, 1957, in Aliquippa, he was a son of the late Nazzareno and Theresa (Mandity) Ceccarelli.
Anthony was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. He was a 1976 graduate of Quigley High School and a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College. He was employed by Mine Safety Appliances as a senior regional sales representative for North Carolina.
Surviving are his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Donald Berbel, Baden, Pa.; a brother and sister-in-law, Ned and Shirley Ceccarelli, Hopewell Township, and their children, Rachel Bryson and her husband John, Robin and Ryan Ceccarelli; a brother, James Ceccarelli, Center Township, and his children, Tarah and Brooke Ceccarelli and his beloved soul mate, Lori McKittrick, Hopewell Township.
Anthony was a kind and loving man who fully enjoyed life. He touched many lives and his memory will fondly remain in the hearts of all those who loved him.
A luncheon will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Center immediately following the memorial Mass.

Al Jeter Jr.
Al Jeter Jr., 29, of Raleigh, went to be with his heavenly father on March 24, 2004.
A graveside service conducted by Pastors Ronnie Saville and Rodney Finch was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family received friends at the graveside.
Al is survived by his mother, Pat Jeter of Raleigh; father, Al Jeter Sr., and wife, Pat, of Apex; sisters, Shannon Jeter of Raleigh, Karen Jeter and Savanah Banta, both of Apex; fiancée, Stephanie Daye of Raleigh; paternal grandmother, Eve Agnes Jeter; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Jo Ann Mullinix
Jo Ann Mullinix, 51, of 728 Kingswood Drive, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 27, 2004. Jo Ann died with her family at her side.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary. Services were held Tuesday, March 30, at 2 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 Lochmere Drive.
Jo Ann requested that all in attendance dress casual.
She was born Jan. 27, 1953, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Gerald and Emma Giles. Jo Ann was a 1975 University of South Dakota graduate and held the position of magistrate and city finance officer for North Sioux City, S.D., from 1976 to 1980. Jo Ann was wed to Tam A. Mullinix on Aug. 18, 1979, in Elk Point, S.D. Jo Ann remained a resident of Elk Point for over 10 years, during which time she retired from the position of magistrate to raise her family.
"Dakota Jo" and her family moved to Cary in 1990. For the past five years, Jo enjoyed working at Ashworth's Drugs in Cary.
Jo Ann cared deeply for those she loved and was part of the closest, most loving family one could imagine. Jo Ann's favorite hobbies were bingo, baking and collecting a wide variety of items.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by Tam Mullinix and leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Joshua and Justin Mullinix; two sisters, Jackie Giles and Julie Brown; two brothers, Michael and Daniel Giles; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Jessie Paul Cash Sr.
Jessie Paul Cash Sr., 78, of Apex went to be with his Lord Saturday, March 27, 2004 at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Cash was a member of Bell's Baptist Church and member of Columbus Lodge 102 in Pittsboro. Mr. Cash served his country in World War II in Infantry Unit No. 1 in Europe.
A funeral service was conducted by Dr. Andrew Pickens at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Cash; daughters, Pamella Cash Roper and husband Keith of Apex and Teresa Cash Nixon of Sanford; son, Jessie Paul “Shorty” Cash Jr. and wife Cathy of Pittsboro; sisters, Alma Hunt of Apex, Betty Sparrow of Carboro and Frances McGhee of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Diana Huff, Jessie Robert Huff, Melissa Korey, Joanna Martin, Tony Cash, Brad Cash, Jocelyn Collins, Kristy Patton and Elizabeth Nixon; and great-grandchildren, Jessie Stedman Huff, Christopher Lancaster, Kali Corey, Makenna Martin, Jordan Collins, Jackson Collins and Riley Patton.

Panise Morris Jenks
Panise Morris Jenks, 89, of Apex died Saturday, March 27, 2004.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard J. Jenks and wife Monnie of Apex and Albert B. Jenks and wife Linda of Broadway; one daughter, Patsy Baumgarten and husband Dan of Wilmington; one sister, Dorlas Clayton of Greenville; one brother, Melvin "Dick" Morris and wife Clara of Apex; 11 grandchildren; and 28 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Jenks, and a son, Howard L. "Plug" Jenks.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, at Olive Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Long officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, at Apex Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Richard J. Jenks in Apex.

Quentin Jenkins
Quentin Jenkins, 66, of Apex died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Rex Hospital. He was a member of Collins Grove Baptist Church, having served as a deacon, and a former member of the Apex Lions Club.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Friday, April 2, at 11 a.m. in the Collins Grove Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Quentin is survived by his wife, Claire G. Jenkins of the home; four sons, Jeff Jenkins and wife Lora, Richard Jenkins and wife Marie, Steven Jenkins and Chris Jenkins; one daughter, Lisa Jenkins; a step-daughter, Lois Weathers; and seven grandchildren, Kirstey, Summer, Michael, Amanda, Kyanne, Odin and Kim; four brothers, Irwin Jenkins and wife Peggy, Norman Jenkins and wife Pat, Hayden Jenkins and wife Julie, and Benjamin Jenkins; and two sisters, Carolyn Jenkins and Marion Carter.
The Jenkins family will receive friends Thursday, April 1, at the Collins Grove Baptist Church, 3400 Avent Ferry Road, Holly Springs, from 6 to 8 p.m., and other times at the home.
