Bernard Emmanuel Worne
Bernard Emmanuel Worne, 83, of Cary died Nov. 4, 2004. Born in 1920 in Atlantic City, N.J., he was the son of Edward H. Worne and Lillian Green Worne. Bernard retired from a career in the telecommunications industry.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Esther Niemi Worne; daughter, Laurel Goodwin and husband Benjamin of Cary; daughter-in-law Janet Worne of Lexington, Ky., and four grandchildren, Heather Worne and Hilary Worne of Lexington, Ky., and Paige and Olivia Goodwin of Cary. Bernard was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Worne, in 1987.
The family will hold a private memorial service in his memory.

Eon Alden Dodson
Eon Alden Dodson, 20, of Seminole, Fla., died Nov. 6, 2004. He was born in Hollywood, Fla., and moved to Seminole in 1995 from Cary.
He was a student at St. Petersburg College, Seminole campus, and was a Christian.
He is survived by his parents, Edsel G. Jr. and Bettina Dodson; brothers, Edsel G. III and Ryan E., all of Seminole; two aunts, an uncle and five cousins.
A memorial service was held at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel, Largo, Fla.
Elizabeth F. Miller
Elizabeth F. Miller, 76, of Raleigh died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 at Rex Hospital.
Elizabeth was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Newburyport, Mass. Elizabeth and her family have lived in the Raleigh-Cary area since moving there in 1968. She was an avid and talented painter, having studied at the Arts Students League in Woodstock, N.Y.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harry W. Miller of the home; daughters, Gwen M. Boyles and her husband Roger of Pittsboro and Jill Fournier of Raleigh; sons, Harry W. Miller Jr. and his wife Sandra of Alabama and Gregory E. Miller and his wife Katherine of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Leo, Glen, Phillip, Keith, Clay and Becky; and one great-grandchild, Lily Claire.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Browne-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at Browne-Wynne, 200 S.E. Maynard. Burial will be private.

June Marie Eagle
June Marie Eagle, 76, of Cary, beloved wife of William, entered into eternal rest Oct. 25, 2004 after a short illness.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Eagle is survived by two sons, Raymond D. Mendigorin and Albert S. Mendigorin, and one daughter, Joy Walter. Also surviving are two sisters, 11 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in Hollywood, Fla., where Mrs. Eagle previously resided. Burial was at Beth David Cemetery in Hollywood, Fla. The family received visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Walter. Local arrangements were by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
Roberta Merry Carter
Roberta Merry Carter, 76, of Heartsfield of Cary, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004. Mrs. Carter, cherished by her family, was a loving and devoted homemaker. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Berce Merry and Alpha Hobson Merry. Mrs. Carter was born May 20, 1928 in Fillmore, Calif. She is survived by her children, Terry Carter Barnes and husband, Ed of Apex, Gary Carter and wife, Debbie of Moncure, and Mike Carter and wife, Donna of Durham; grandchildren, Sloan Marie Barnes, Stacy Barnes-Hardy and husband, Jay, Eric and Ali Carter, Jill Duplessis and Heather Carter; great-granddaughter, Carter-Marie Barnes Hardy; brother, Stanley A. Merry and wife, Maxine of Fillmore, Calif.; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward M. Carter, who died Feb. 19, 2004.
The family received friends Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14, at Apex Funeral Home. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Apex Funeral Home. Burial followed in Apex Cemetery.

June Thompson Beach

June Thompson Beach, 68, of Apex, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004. She was born in Charlotte to Raymond and Virginia Thompson. Mrs. Beach was preceded in death by her husband of 11 years, Donald J. Beach. She was a 1954 graduate of Hampton High School, Hampton, Va. Mrs. Beach was a member of and served on the Vestry of St. George Episcopal Church, The Villages, Fla. She owned and operated Overman's Florist in Hampton, Va., for 25 years and The Sea Garden and The Holly Tree on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for eight years. She became a real estate broker for Stan White Realty before retiring to Summerfield, Fla. Throughout her life, June used her talents to inspire many with her original creations.
Mrs. Beach is survived by her children: Melissa Creamer and husband Kurt of Apex; Laurie Cavey and husband Pete of Harrisonburg, Va.; Victoria "Tori" Tolley and husband Larry of Fairbanks, Alaska; and Clyde "Buddy" Overman of Kill Devil Hills. She also is survived by her stepchildren, Deborah Taylor, Nancy Gray and James Beach; sisters, Sue Elliott, Ann Bruce and Lynn White; brother, Raymond Thompson; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life and The Holy Eucharist was held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Apex. An additional service will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. George Episcopal Church in The Villages, Fla., followed by a burial of Donald and June Beach.

Norman C. Miller Jr.
Norman C. Miller Jr. of Cary passed away at Rex Hospital on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004. Mr. Miller was born on July 2, 1925 in Fort Pierce, Fla., to Norman and Nellie Mae Miller. Mr. Miller was a veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Penn State University and was a professor of food science at N.C. State University.
Mr. Miller was very involved in the Masons. He was past Master of Raleigh Lodge 500. He was a founding member and first Master of Masters Lodge 754. He was District Deputy Grand Lecturer of the 225th Masonic District and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Luella Mae; daughter, Tamea Smith of Cary; son, Norman C. "Butch" Miller III and wife, Susan of Cary; son, Charles A. Miller of Carolina Beach; sister, Martha M. Penturelli and husband, Ben of Reading, Pa.; five grandsons, Rob Smith and wife, Carrie of Garner, Todd Smith of Wilmington, Matt Smith of Sarasota, Fla., Chris Miller and wife, Amy of Apex and Paul Miller of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Smith and Jordan Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, officiated by the Rev. Bill Snotherly. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph John Vita
Joseph John Vita, 82, of Apex, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, after a long and lingering illness. He was born on March 8, 1922, the son of the late Michael Angelo Vita and Antonia Sgroi Vita.
A graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23. Father David Fitzgerald officiated the service.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria M. Vita of the home; a son, Michael Vita and wife Loriann of Cary; a daughter, Susan Scutt and husband Jonathan of Apex; and four grandchildren, Michael Vita and wife Heather, Matthew Vita, Allison Vita and Melissa Scutt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be given to the Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's St., Fourth Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605. Arrangements are entrusted to Apex Funeral Directors, 511 W. Williams St., Apex, NC 27502.
Beatrice Ruth Pierce
Beatrice Ruth Pierce, 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004. She was born in El Centro, Calif., to the late Lundie and Mamie Ogburn. Her husband, Colean Pierce, and grandson, Todd West, also preceded her in death. After 30 years, she and her husband retired from operating E.C. Pierce's Grocery.
Mrs. Pierce was affectionately known as "Honey Bea" by her grandchildren and many others. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her many kind deeds to others. She is survived by her son, Lundie Pierce of Apex and wife, Donna; daughters, Janet Bell of Richmond, Va., and Mary Linda West and husband, Kenneth of Apex; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her sisters-in-law, Katherine Ogburn, Lane Pierce and Annie Jones, and many nieces and nephews also survive her.
The family received friends Thursday evening, Nov. 18, at Apex Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 19, at Catawba Springs Christian Church on Ten Ten Road in Apex. Flowers are welcome. Memorials also may be made to Catawba Springs Christian Church.

Eugenia H. Robinson
Eugenia H. Robinson, 72, of Cary died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at her home. She was born in Bainbridge Isle, Wash., to Eugene and Anna Hansen. Mrs. Robinson was a customer service representative for Bank of America. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, in the chapel of Apex Funeral Home. The Rev. Doug Duncan officiated. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Chapel Hill.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Lee; daughters, Lillian A. Hill and husband, Tim of Zebulon, Lisa M. A. Whitener and husband, Christopher of Santa Cruz, Calif., Judith L. Banks and husband, Doug, and Mary C. Swanger and husband, Tony, all of Hillsborough; stepchildren, Anthony Lee of Apex and Lissa L. Young and husband, Dwight of Pine Bluff; and brother, Franklin D. Hansen of New Port, Wash. She is also survived by three grandchildren, a great-grandchild and two stepgrandchildren.

Lelon C. Alexander
Lelon C. Alexander, 78, affectionately known to most people as "Bunk," went to be with the Lord on Nov. 19, 2004, after a very courageous 18-year battle with multiple myeloma.
He was born in Creswell on Oct. 16, 1926, the son of the late Charles Arthur and Rena Tarkington Alexander. An older brother, Charles Arthur Alexander Jr., preceded him in death.
Lelon was educated in the Washington County public schools, Hardbarger's Business School and UNC-Chapel Hill. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He received his CPA certificate in 1957 and worked in the accounting profession for 42 years. He retired as a partner with A.T. Allen and Company, LLP, in 1994. God blessed him with many good years during his retirement.
He was a hard worker, dedicated and loyal to his clients in the accounting business. He was a man of high moral character, quiet dignity and integrity. He could find contentment and beauty in life's simple pleasures. He loved his family, his country and his creator. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Stell Alexander; son, Robert Arthur and wife, Susan; and daughter, Kelly Alexander DeVane and husband, Ash, all of Cary. He also leaves behind four wonderful grandsons, Ladd and Stone Alexander, and Tom and Alexander DeVane.
A memorial service in celebration of his life was held Sunday, Nov. 21, at First Baptist Church in Cary. The family greeted friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
