Geraline J. Johnson
Geraline Jones Johnson, 54, of Fuquay-Varina died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.
A funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 30, at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Fuquay-Varina. Burial followed in Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Ray Johnson; daughter, Carrie Ann Johnson-Dobbs of Holly Springs; sons, Raymond David Johnson of Fuquay-Varina and Michael Ray Johnson of Morehead City; grandchildren, Anji Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Scarlett Dobbs, Savannah Jade Dobbs and Isabella Dobbs; parents, Joseph David and Della Mae Mills Jones of New Bern; and sisters, Rebecca Humphrey of Cary and Jo Ann Canaday of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The family received friends Saturday afternoon, Nov. 29, at Thomas Funeral Home.
Eugene Elmond Holt
Eugene Elmond Holt, 80, of Apex died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro. A graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 29, in Martha's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Brinson officiated.
Mr. Holt is survived by his wife, Marie Briggs Holt; son, Stacy Holt, and daughter, Linda Smith, both of the home; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Friday evening, Nov. 28, at Apex Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Sandra Stammely
Sandra Stammely of Cary passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at Rex Hospital.
Sandra was born June 15, 1945 in Wilson, the daughter of Lana (Gay) Cone and Paul Jeffrey Cone of Middlesex.
She was preceded in death by her father and brothers, Charles, Donald and Jerry Cone, and a twin sister, Andra Skinner, on Aug. 21.
She is survived by her mother; her loving husband Tom; and daughters, Kimberly Lynn of Fuquay-Varina, Heather, wife of Todd Shearin, Apex, and Melanie Leigh of the home. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren, Kristen Alanna Bridgers, Brooke Christen Shearin and Gage Thomas Shearin, a loving family and a wonderful group of friends. She touched the lives of many people with her compassion, humor and caring manner.
Sandra was retired secretary of Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church after 13 years of devoted service. She was active in Girl Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Pine Cone Award, the highest award given to a Girl Scout volunteer. She was a Brownie troop leader, an untiring Meal on Wheels volunteer and one of the first Avon representatives in Cary.
Friends were received Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. A funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3, at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, with a brief gathering of friends and loved ones following the service. Interment
was to be at Samaria Baptist Church Cemetery.
Sandra was a loving wife, wonderful mother, adoring grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.
Dan Marcus Lane
Dan Marcus Lane, 42, of Garner died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at his home. He was born in Anderson, S.C., on Feb. 25, 1961, the son of Helen B. Lane and the late Daniel F. Lane.
Mr. Lane was employed at First Union Bank until he was disabled in 1994. He was a member of New Life Wesleyan Church.
Dan had a strong determination to survive the adversities of stroke and heart disease. He was a recipient of a heart transplant that gave him a bonus of life. He spent much of his time helping and encouraging other people. He was a thoughtful and generous person who never considered the alternatives, but pressed forward believing there would be a better day. He frequently told his friends, "Don't put things off. Do it now." He had a strong faith in God and a dedication to honor.
Surviving are his three children, Alexander, Cory and Rebecca, all of Garner. He is survived by his mother, Helen B. Lane of Garner; his sister, Donna L. Sharifyazdi of Raleigh; and his dear friend, Nancy Seate of Goldsboro. He also is survived by his uncles and aunts, Carmen and Nelda Lane of Cary; Joseph and Alice Lane of Holden Beach; Lillian and Wayne Leggette of St. Simons Island, Ga.; and Lamon and Linda Blackburn of Greensboro.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel in Cary with the Rev. Gary Tesh officiating. The family received visitors Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, at Brown-Wynne. Burial was at Old Zion Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Tabor City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of New Life Wesleyan Church, 2967 Benson Road, Garner, NC 27529.
Lloyd T. Jenkins
Lloyd T. Jenkins, 84, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Wylodine R. Jenkins; daughter, Lynda J. Shipley (Tony L.) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and two sons, Richard L. Jenkins (Anna) of Houston, Texas, and Thomas A. Jenkins of Cincinnati, Ohio; and three grandchildren, John T. Jenkins, and Blake and Robyn Shipley. A sister, Anette M. Jenkins of Spearfish, S.D., a brother, William H. Jenkins (Helen) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Joanne R. Garnett of Florence, Ala., also survive him.
Mr. Jenkins was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He retired after 26 years from Monsanto Colo., as a research chemist. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Swingin' Saints Square Dance Club and a very active volunteer in many community services.
Visitation was held Thursday evening, Dec. 4, at Harper-Morris Funeral Home. Services were held Friday, Dec. 5, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, in Pensacola, Fla., followed by burial at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, Fla.

William Errol Spencer Jr.
William Errol Spencer Jr., 83, of Apex died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Lawndale Manor in Garner. Mr. Spencer was born in Stockton, Calif., on May 29, 1920.
A funeral service was held Saturday morning, Dec. 6, in Apex Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Apex Cemetery.
William Spencer graduated from San Jose State College with a bachelor of arts degree in economics, minoring in English. He served as a lieutenant second grade in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. He returned to San Jose and became assistant treasurer at FMC, and later vice president of insurance at Rexall Drugs in LA. His last position was as a broker for Lloyds of London.
He is survived by his sons, William E. Spencer III of Park Ridge, Chicago; Jon F. Spencer and his wife Nancy of Apex; Erle K. Spencer and his wife Paula of Los Angeles; Randall Lee Spencer of California; and Robert F. Spencer and his wife Lydia of Culver City, Calif.; as well as eight grandchildren.
His wife, Virginia Lee Kesling Spencer, preceded him in death. The family received friends Friday evening, Dec. 5, at Apex Funeral Home.
