Frances Howes Woznicki

Frances Howes Woznicki, 75, of Athens, went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, April 24, 1999, at Parkwest Hospital in Knoxville.
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., she was a former resident of Trenton, Mich., and a resident of McMinn County for 15 years.
A daughter of the late Clarence E. and Mary Bessie Rimer Howes, she was active in her younger years and was married in Prospect Avenue Baptist Church in Buffalo, N.Y.
She was a member of Trenton First Baptist Church in Trenton, Mich., and attended Lakeside Baptist Church and Athens First Baptist. She was also a volunteer in the reading program at City Park School and was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth H. Seychew Lapp.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Carl Thomas Woznicki of Athens; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Joan Louise Cashin of Wyalusing, Pa., Kathleen Ann and Thomas Lawson of Owatonna, Minn., Patricia Jean Beaty of Englewood, and Carol Jane and Jay Hill of Georgetown, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold E. and Dorothy Howes of Oakley, Calif., one sister and brother-in-law, Helen Howes and Carl Place of Westfield, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Alanna S. Beaty, Thomas N. Lawson, Andrew Beaty, Jennifer L. Lawson, Amy J. Lawson, Tyler J. Beaty and Whitney P. Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Brown and Dr. Carlos Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Athens.
Iowa T. Bledsoe Womac

Iowa T. Bledsoe Womac, 74, of Athens, died Sunday morning, April 25, 1999, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Roosevelt and Bertie Jack Teague.
She was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Riden; and one brother, Wayne Teague and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Doc Womac of Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh Ann and Chris Hampton of Etowah and Janis and Will Noel Edwards of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Shufford Teague and Austin and Betty Teague, all of Athens; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Keely, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Hampton, Sula Riden and Amanda and Veronica Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Emily Girton.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Wendell "Bear" Lewis

Wendell “Bear” Lewis, 58, of Ten Mile, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 24, 1999.
A native of Bledsoe County, he had lived in Ten Mile for many years. A retired employee of Plastic Industries, he was a lifetime member of the Meigs County Rescue Squad. A son of the late Thomas B. and Bertha Irene Lewis, he attended Watts Bar Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Evone Lewis of Ten Mile and Liddia Lewis Bivens of Athens; one sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Freddie Harden of Chattanooga; one grandson, Tanner Bivens of Athens; two nephews, Mark and Steve Cordell, both of Chattanooga; and one special friend, Rita Martin of Ten Mile.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Goins officiating. Burial will be in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be members of the Meigs County Rescue Squad.

Ruby Miller Brown, 75, of Athens, died Sunday evening, April 25, 1999, at Life Care Center of Athens.
A native of Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late George and Lenore Loven Miller.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia and Hershell Jack of Englewood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles C. and Linda Brown of Athens and Gary C. and Judi Brown of Chattanooga; four granddaughters, Traci Hill of Philadelphia, Diane Jack Freeman of Sylvania, Ga., Julie Jack Warren of Athens and Lisa Grayson Lowe of Johnson City; three grandsons, Ray Jack of Atlanta, Travis Brown of Riceville and Chris Grayson of Athens; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ann and Art Gibbs of Knoxville, Lola and Raymond McJunkins and Tommie Huskey, all of Philadelphia; one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Laverne Miller of Etowah and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Michael Doty officiating. The body has been cremated.

Gladys Evelyn Long Lambert

Gladys Evelyn Long Lambert, 97, of Etowah, passed away, Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native of Grayson County, Va., she had lived in Bristol before making her home in Etowah. A daughter of the late Fields Alexander and Sarah Ann Virginia Long, she was a member of the Athens Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil A. Lambert; one son, Cecil A. Lambert Jr.; three brothers, Walter, Guy and Charles Long; two sisters, June Delozier and Lessie Keller.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Marie Lambert Sr.; three grandchildren and spouses, Robert A. and Sandy Lambert Jr., Thomas C. and Shannon Lambert and Patricia G. and Rick Hooper; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
By her request, there will be no visitation or memorial service held.
Charles Edward West

Charles Edward West, 60, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he had been an employee of Athens Furniture Company for 29 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Temple.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur West; and two sons, Steve West and Michael West.
Survivors include his wife, Fay McMurtery West of Athens; one son, Wesley West of Riceville; four grandchildren, Sean West, Justin West, Johnathan West and Payge West; his mother, Martha Jeralds West Watts of Athens; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Alice West of Englewood, Claude and Thelma West of Riceville and Carey and Nancy West of Cleveland; three stepbrothers and sisters-in-law, Will D. and Judy Watts of Niota, Lee and Betty Watts of Cincinnati, Ohio and C.W. and Judy Watts of Niota; two stepsisters and one brother-in-law, Sally Self of Decatur and Bernice and James Ghorley of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank Moses
Died: 11/10/1999
Frank Moses, 73, of Athens, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 10, 1999, at the McMinn County Nursing Home in Etowah.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Ernie and Jody Malone Moses. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater. After the war, he joined the family automobile business and developed a love for stock car racing. He became a well-known racer throughout the state.
An owner and operator of Moses and Toomey, he was a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church where he had held positions as R.A. leader, Sunday school superintendent, training union director, Sunday school teacher, choir member and trustee. In April 1975, he was one of the seven men who helped organize the Athens Gideons in which he served as memorial Bible chairman. He also served as a bus driver for the Jolly Elders.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Gleana Martin Moses of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Frankie Moses and Joe Conar of Cleveland; one sister, Mrs. Herb (Velma) Henderson of Athens; two grandchildren and spouse, Ginger Conar and Russ Moore of Nashville and Lt. Jeff Conar of Ft. Riley, Kan.; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Grace Moore of Nashville; and a devoted niece and nephews, Patsy, Troy, Stacey and Marcus Shirk.
A homecoming celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Fraizer and the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be members of the King David Sunday school class. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Antioch Baptist Church, The Gideons and Auxiliary Wives.

Ida Lou Cardin Wilson, 93, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at the home of her niece.
A native of Baggs, Wyo. and a lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was retired from the McMinn County School System.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry S. and Carrie Burkett Cardin; her husband, William Burch Wilson; one sister, Ruby Thelma Cardin Sherlin; and one brother, Ernest Henry Cardin.
Survivors include one niece and her husband, Gwen Sherlin and Robert Lewis Jr. of Athens; and many friends.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

J.B. Fox, 77, of Loudon, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 10, 1999, at U.T. Hospital in Knoxville.
He was a native of White Pine and resident of Athens for 38 years. He was a retired employee of McMinn-Meigs Farmers Co-op and was a member of Valley Road Baptist Church.
A son of the late Clifford “C.W.” and Lilly B. Dawson Fox, he was preceded in death by one sister, Charlise Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Frank Fox of Loudon; one son and daughter-in-law, J.C. and Sue Fox of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Luther Clotfelter of Loudon; one brother, Carl Fox of Sweetwater; one sister, Bessie Monroe of Athens; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Chattanooga to the late Rev. Ernest Walker and Nannie Redman Walker, she was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Paul Walker. She was employed as a floral manager of Krogers in Roswell, Ga., and had worked for Southern Bell for several years.
Survivors include her husband, J.L. Shields of Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Shields Turner and Michael L. Turner of Roswell, Ga., and one sister, Charlotte Bishop of Powder Springs, Ga.

Joy Allen Ware

Joy Allen Ware died Nov. 13, 1999, in Life Care Center in Chattanooga.
A native of McMinn County and formerly of McMinnville, she was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ in Warren County. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Athens and Engelwood and at Fairview School in Warren County.
A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Allen, she was preceded in death by her husband Earl H. Ware; four sisters, Eva Rayl, Emma McKeown, Pearl Parris and Oma Wofford; and four brothers, Oscar, Colmer, Glen and Carson Allen.
Survivors include her sister, Reva Allen LaPoint of Silver Springs, Md; a niece, Elizabeth Lyon of Chattanooga with whom she had made her home since her husband’s death; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at High’s Funeral Home Chapel in McMinnville. Burial will follow at Smyrna Cemetery in Warren County.

James Richard Wildey, 66, of Sweetwater, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 6, 1933 in North Vernon, Ind., he was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Sweetwater where he served as outreach chairman. He was a member of the Lions Club and was actively involved with the Girl Scouts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margie and Malcolm Wildey; and one stepson, Gene.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Adele Wildey of Sweetwater; seven daughters, Kim Dontje and Cheryl, both of Michigan, Kathy Walters and Leslie Eder, both of Tennessee, Lorraine Hinman and Paula Clark, both of California, and Gwen Couto of Nevada; four sons, Tom Wildey of Michigan, Joe Clark of California, John Nelson of Georgia and Chip Nelson of South Carolina; one sister, Margie Phelps of Flint, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Dorothy Price.
