Dimple Lee Hampton, 81, of Jackson, Ohio, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in Jackson, Ohio.
A native of Litton and resident of Jackson, Ohio, for more than 20 years, she was a veteran of World War II and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
A daughter of the late Oscar Nolthus and Neddie Gertrude Hale Lee, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Snyder and Jessie Patton; and one brother, Willard Lee.
Survivors include her husband, Luther P. Hampton Jr., of Jackson, Ohio; three sons, Luther P. Hampton III of Alexandria, Va., Michael L. Hampton of Newport, R.I., and Jeffrey R. Hampton of Sunnyvale, Calif.; her grandchildren, Rachel, David, Sarah and Aaron Hampton; two sisters, Cleneyria Harrison of Chattanooga and Louise Keaton of Crossville.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Hubble, the Rev. Tom Reed and the Rev. Rebecca Reed officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the United Way.

Lillian Harmon Davis

Lillian Harmon Davis, 87, of Etowah, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native of Meigs County and resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late William L. and Lydia Baker Harmon and was preceded in death by her husband, Joel C. Davis. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Davis of Etowah; three sisters, Idella Bryan of Etowah, Edna Wilson of Chattanooga and Mary Lou Denton of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Thursday at McMinn Memory Gardens for graveside services with the Rev. R.B. Bryan officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bordwine Funeral Home.

Edward E. Nichols Sr., 76, of Athens, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 29, 2000, at Life Care Center of Athens.
A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of VFW Post No. 5146. Retired from Don’s Food Center and Harrod’s Supermarket after 40 years of service, he was of the Baptist faith.
A son of the late Fred and Amelia Everhart Nichols, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Faye Nichols and Trula Mae Nichols; and three brothers, Hobert, Lester and Troy Nichols.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Burns Nichols of Athens; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Farris Vaughn, Martha and Larry Floyd, Tina Nichols, Carol Nichols, and Edwina and Thomas Redman, all of Athens; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Edward E. Nichols Jr., Doug and Phyllis Nichols, Timmy and Tammy Nichols and Steven Nichols, all of Athens; 13 grandchildren, Teresea, Wayne, Arvella, Doyle, Tammy, Greg, Allen, Priscilla, English, Matt, Adam, Amanda and Deanna; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Cora Raper, Dulcie Nichols and Bertha Nichols, all of Nashville.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The body is in state at Jerry Smith Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Roy Wayne Blair

Roy Wayne Blair, 69, of Etowah, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah.
A native and resident of Etowah for most of his life, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Athens Seventh-day Adventist Church. A son of the late Harless H. and Mattie Bell Culpepper Blair, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Shell; and three brothers, Archie, Bill and Dennis Blair.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Blair of Athens and Kerry Blair of Riceville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Paul Coleman of Etowah; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Betty Blair and Broughton and Betty Blair, all of Etowah, and Van Allen and Debbie Blair of Seymour; a dear friend, Caroline Roberts of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Rowland and the Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sunrise Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Coleman, Matt Blair, Terry Blair, Steve Blair, Jodie Blair and Scott Blair.

Roy Lee Torbett, 86, of Englewood, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah.
A native of Monroe County and resident of McMinn County for 60 years, he was a son of the late Ollie and Della Gamble Torbett. He was a member of Englewood First Church of God and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Crofts Torbett of Englewood; a foster son, Scott Crofts of Englewood; two brothers, Reece Torbett of Englewood and Ruel Torbett of Dallas, Ga.; three sisters, Zeola Massengale of Murfreesboro, Thelma Cooley of Gulfport, Miss., and Polly Cardin of Liberty Center, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Will Hughes officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Sunrise Cemetery in Englewood.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Torbett, Kenneth Gay, Ernest Moses, W.J. Harris, Claude Derrick and Johnny Burris. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Chase and Cecil Gay.

Daisy Thurman, 96, of Decatur, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at SunBridge Health Care and Rehabilitation in Decatur.
She was a member of Cottonport Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Gladys Thurman and Hubert and Vickie Thurman, all of Decatur; one daughter, Rosie Jack of Etowah; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, in the Bowers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Max Redman officiating. Burial will be in Cottonport Cemetery.

Gladys Genevieve “Dood” McGann Cooley, 82, of Athens, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
A native of Spring City, she was a former resident of Meigs County and was a resident of McMinn County for many years. She was a daughter of the late O.W. and Clara Barger McGann Sr., and was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Cooley. She was a charter member of Peakland Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Cooley and James Winston McDonald of Athens; one grandson, Tilman McDonald of Athens; one great-granddaughter, Jocelyn McDonald of Athens; two sisters, Kay Perkinson of Dayton and Bernice Morrison of Decatur; two brothers, O.W. McGann Jr., of Decatur and C.B. McGann of Murfreesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Purdie officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Rocky Springs Cemetery.
