Mildred DeMaris Hoot
Mrs. Mildred DeMaris Hoot, 80, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at her home.
She was the former Mildred Jones of the Dorrisville area.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1917, in Harrisburg to the late August and Katherine (McDowell) Jones.
Mrs. Hoot was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church and American Legion Navy Mothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Sobak of Port Orange, Fla., Phyllis Kay Parker of Daytona, Fla., and Eliece Petri of Hobart, Ind.; a sister, Elsie Ferrell of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren, David DeMaris of Texas, Dana DeMaris, of Illinois, Brandy Jo DeMaris, Suzanne DeMaris, and Sarah DeMaris, all of Indiana, Renee Carmody of Massachusetts, Anthony Sobak of Arizona, Earl Hafner, Lynn Ferguson, and Kelly Evans, all of Indiana; eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald DeMaris and Doug DeMaris, a grandson, Joey Sobak, four sisters, Stella Simpson, Etta Dillon, Mary Glass, and Nellie Jones, and six brothers, Claude, Hubert, Gussie, Daniel, and Vernor Jones, and Louie McDowell.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time, on Saturday. The Rev. Mark Haumschilt will officiate and burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.
Margaret Kibling
Mrs. Margaret Kibling, 82, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Mary L. Dillard
Mrs. Mary L. Dillard, 87, of 1712 Grove St., Eldorado, died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. She was the widow of Wallie Dillard.
She had been making her home with friends, Richard and Dora Trail, in Eldorado, for the past year and a half.
She was born on March 3, 1911, in New Haven, to the late Marion and Grace (Bonner) Trail.
Mrs. Dillard was a member of Star General Baptist Church.
Mrs. Dillard was a former employee at the Masonic Home in Sullivan, Ind.
Surviving are a brother, Carl Trail of Griffin, Ind.; two grandchildren, David Dillard and Steven Dillard, both of Joliet; two great-grandchildren, David Lee Dillard and Shawn Dillard, both of Joliet; a great-grandson; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Dillard of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Byford Dillard, three brothers, Charles, Wilburn and Henry Trail, and three sisters, Lela Clark, Grace Drone and Mamie Trail.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate and burial will be in Lindale Cemetery at Eldorado.
Charles K. 'Buck' Cannon
Charles K. "Buck" Cannon, 77, of 709 W. Sloan St., Harrisburg, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was owner and operator of Buck's Bar-B-Que for over 41 years. He was a veteran of World War II Army Air Corps.
On Dec. 29, 1945, he married the former Helen Smith. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1991.
Mr. Cannon was born on Aug. 30, 1921, in Harrisburg, to the late Jesse and Clara (Hutchinson) Cannon.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mike Barnhill and Kathy and Donnie Lane, all of Harrisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Grant (Norma) Mings of Broughton and Mary Hindmarsh of Marion; a special friend, Katie Dearing of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Brad Barnhill, Kasey Barnhill, Brett Lane, and Brittany Lane, all of Harrisburg.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Cannon; a sister, Jane Mings; and two brothers, Maynard Cannon and Clifford Cannon.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reed Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Ron Reed and the Rev. Keith Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery near Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Land Street Church of God in Harrisburg, where Mr. Cannon attended. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
James E. Beasley
James E. Beasley, 83, of Junction, died at 11:25 Thursday, Nov. 26, 199, in Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born on March 20, 1915, in the Big Ridge community to the late Sanford and Ethel (Johnson) Beasley.
He was a retired towboat tankerman and a World War II Army veteran.
He married the former Ethel Eleam on Sept. 8, 1975. She survives along with two stepdaughters, Brenda Sue Winters of Junction and Glenda Reeves of Herod; and three stepsons, James L. Morse of Junction, Francis R."Bud" Morse, and Larry "Butch" Morse, both of Shawneetown; a sister-in-law, Mary Beasley of Galesburg; and two nephews, John Beasley of Galesburg and James Beasley, of Roscoe.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown, where friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. The Rev. James Hubbard will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
Margaret Kibling
Margaret Kibling, 82, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
Burial was in Dodd Cemetery Friday, Nov. 27.
Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado was in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Lou (Johnson) Hicks
Services for Mrs. Betty Lou (Johnson) Hicks, 67, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Eldorado, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtrown Road, Evansville, Ind. The Rev. Mitch Stichler will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. The family will gather at Sunset Lawn at 1 p.m. on Saturday for graveside services.
Mrs. Hicks, wife of Charles "Tom" Hicks, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Death was due to an apparent heart attack.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Grattan Logsdon
James Grattan Logsdon, 87, of Ridgway, died at noon Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born on March 6, 1911 in Shawneetown, to the late Robert E. Lee and Margaret (Meek) Logsdon.
In 1936, he married the former Tommie Sherrick, who died this November.
He attended school in Shawneetown. He was in business with his brother, and in 1941 he and his wife moved to Ridgway, where Grattan owned and operated a tavern, but his heart was in training thoroughberd horses. He trained horses for more than half a century throughout the midwest and occasionally in Florida.
Some of the better horses from the '30s through the '80s were Moisson, Just Right, Jaimsie, Bar Ja and Bosunwood. There are few horsemen left with his insight of horses.
Surviving are two sons, James G. Logsdon Jr., who is a veterinarian in Hot Springs, Ark., and Robert Clay Logsdon, who is a pilot for American Airlines and lives in Dallas; four grandchildren, James G. Logsdon III of Atlanta, Ga., Jacqueline Holly Simpson of Wurzburg, Germany, Todd Logsdon of Little Rock, Ark, and Amy Kristen Weis of Kettering, Ohio; a great-grandson, Alexander Kyle Simpson of Wuzburg, Germany; two sisters, Jessie Wiseheart of Swansea, and Maude Gaskins of Marion.
Her was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Robert Logsdon, and a sister, Helen Beverly.
Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Bill Casey will officiate and burial will be in Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown.
Della (Slaton) Davis
Mrs. Della (Slaton) Davis, 90, of 215 South McKinley St., Harrisburg, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis on Jan. 29, 1972. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys McClusky and Beatrice Clark; three brothers, Harry and Quiller Slaton and Chris Cheek, and a sister-in-law, Elva Slaton.
Surviving are a brother, Edmond Slaton of Harrisburg, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Davis was born on July 18, 1908, in Union County, to the late James and Addie (Annis) Slaton.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Raleigh Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
