Ralph M. Wooley
Ralph M. Wooley, 87, of Equality, died at 12:19 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born on May 16, 1911, in Equality to the late G.L. and Daisy Maxwell Wooley.
Mr. Wooley retired as a highway maintenance employee with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
On Feb. 15, 1933, he married the former Elsie McCaughan. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1994. Also preceeding him in death were a grandson, Mike Wooley, and four sisters, Hazel Barnett, Thelma Sisk, Ruth Martin and Mary Peronis.
Surviving are a son, Billy Gene Wooley of DaRidder, La.; a granddaughter, Tammy Phillips of DeRidder; two great-grandchildren, Kenny Wooley and Stephen Phillips; three sisters, Beulah Moore and Hazel Wathen, both of Equality, and Dorothy Gross of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two brothers, Lawrence Wooley of Alton, and Raymond Wooley of Gary, Ind.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Equality Methodist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
Friends may call at the Jones Funeral Home in Equality from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Russell N. Goldman
Russell N. Goldman, 90, of 2009 Old Broughton Road, Eldorado, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born on June 26, 1908, in Linton, Ind., son of the late Felix and Emma (Lanham) Goldman.
He married the former Mary Lena Lamb on Sept. 30, 1926, in Harrisburg. She survives. Also surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Norman L. and JoAnn Goldman of Bloomington; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Goldman of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Diane and husband, Corey Henson, and Kim Goldman of Eldorado, Lee Ann and husband, Michael Sewell of The Woodlands, Texas, Richard N. and wife, Dawn Goldman of Normal; seven great-grandchildren, Allison, Emily and Hannah Henson, Kristin Lee and Ross Sewell, Matthew Russell and Kyle Goldman, a brother, Ralph Goldman, and three sisters, Mary Ellen Hasenmyer, Ruth Mattingly, and Doris Lee of Evansville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald M. Goldman of Eldorado on Feb. 15, 1998, a brother, a sister, and a great-granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth.
Mr. Goldman was a member of Star General Baptist Church, a 50-year member of The Carpenters Union Local 638, Marion, and Masonic Lodge No. 730 A.F. &A.M. in Eldorado and the Scottish Rite Consistory of Belleville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, in Eldorado, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery at Eldorado.
Those who desire may donate to the Star General Baptist Building Fund.
Dorothy L. (Zimmer) Williams
Mrs. Dorothy L. (Zimmer) Williams, 71, of Herod, died at 12:57 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Deaconess Hospital at Evansville, Ind.
She was the widow of Clyde E. Williams.
Mrs. Williams was the youngest daughter of the late Matthew and Mary "Mae" Zimmer. She was born on June 24, 1927, in Harrisburg.
Surviving are five children, Linda Lea and Frank Kastelic of Sanford, Mich., Patricia Williams and Jim Thornberry of Port Allsworth, Alaska, Mark Edward and Sandee Williams, and Barbara and Jeff Sinchak of Highland, Ind.; Julie L. Williams and Dan Rotter of Apache Junction, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters, Margaret Hatcher of Harrisburg, Mary Silver of Evansville, Ind., Julia Carnett of Highland, Ind., and Saloma Grable Lindsey of Bloomfield, Ind.; and a brother, Thomas Zimmer of Lake Station, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Jewell Chambers of Golconda, and Geneva Williams of Elizabethtown; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Agnes (Beverage) Cohen and a brother, David Zimmer.
She had worked for Wal-Mart in Harrisburg for many years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. The Rev. Jack Stallings will officiate and burial will be in Lindale Cemetery at Eldorado.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Thetna Arnold
Mrs. Thetna Arnold, 75, died at 4:15 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in Harrisburg Care Center.
Survivors include a stepbrother, Homer Vinyard of Miami, Fla.; a step-sister, Mildred Trombitory of Tennessee; and a cousin, Farris Tadlock of New Orleans, La.
Graveside services will precede burial in Good Hope Cemetery at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Mike Davis will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
A.B. 'Blue' Colbert
A.B. "Blue" Colbert, 86, of Junction, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Marion VA Hospital.
He was born on July 21, 1912, in Junction, son of the late A.E. and Carrie (Vinyard) Colbert.
Mr. Colbert was a retired carpenter and a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Junction Odd Fellows Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Rosiclare.
On July 22, 1933, he married the former Velesta Crowe. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1956.
Surviving are four daughters, Charolette M. Davis of Glendale, Ariz., Claudette Tribuzizo of Dixon, Betty A. Moye of Phoenix, and Sharon Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Gary Colbert of Phoenix, Cyril Colbert of Londonderry, N.H., and Gregory Colbert of Kaulia, Hawaii; two sons from a second marriage, Brad Colbert of Metropolis, and Kevin Colbert of Audora. Also surviving are a sister, Reba and her husband, John Bradley of Phoenix; a brother, Burrell Colbert of Alton; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Callie Colbert and Margaret Robinson, and three brothers, Herschel, Herbert and Howard Colbert.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Vickery Funeral Home in Equality, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Roy Dale Orr will officiate. Burial will be in Colbert Cemetery with military rites by the Equality American Legion Post 595.
Zachary Alexander Landrum
Zachary Alexander Landrum, 4-day-old son of James M. and Paula J. (Brooks) Landrum, of Kansas City, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas
Besides the parents, he is survived by a brother, Nicholas Landrum of Kansas City; paternal grandmother, Judy Barkdull of Kokomo, Ind. paternal grandfather, Ted Landrum of Kokomo; maternal grandparents, Ron and Alice Brooks of Stonefort; maternal great-grandmother, Alice Brooks of Alton; and maternal great-great-grandmother, Edith Rose of Carrier Mills
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Joyner Cemetery at Stonefort. There will be no visitation and friends should go directly to the cemetery. The Rev. Doug Burkhamer will officiate.
Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Swinford
Howard Swinford, 89, of Golconda, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998 at the Pope County Care Home.
He was born on March 12, 1909, in Pope County, to the late Frank and Lula (Jeffords) Swinford.
On Sept. 29, 1928, he married the former Rosetta Musgrave. She preceded him in death in 1986.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Linda Swinford of DuQuoin; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Bettis of Jacksonville, and Elizabeth and Bill Cory of Williamsville; a brother, Wade Swinford of Havana; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Mr. Swinford was a retired star route mail carrier. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Golconda.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golconda. The Rev. Billy Green will officiate.
Friends may call at the Aly Funeral Home in Golconda from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial may be made to Southern Illinois Hospice.
Maude B. Kaegi
Mrs. Maude B. Kaegi, age 102, of Cave-in-Rock, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Surviving are two sons, Garcia "Red" Kaegi of Wood River, and Wendell "Slunch" Kaegi of Salem; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Kaegi; and two daughters, Lucille Moore and Beulah Kaegi.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Junior Austin will officiate and burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Robert C. 'Chris' Downen
Robert C. "Chris" Downen, 26, of 220 W. Townsend, Shawneetown, died 6:15 a.m. Sunday Dec. 27, 1998 as a result of an automobile accident on the Shawneetown-New Haven Road.
He was born on July 7, 1972, to Bobby and Katie (Mosby) Downen of Shawneetown.
He was an employee of the Black Beauty Coal Co.
Mr. Downen was a University of Southern Indiana graduate with a degree in agriculture. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Courtney Downen and Jordan Downen, both of Shawneetown; his grandparents, Bob and Betty Downen of Shawneetown and Joe and Willabea Mosby of Equality; and a nephew; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time. Fr. Ray Engelhart will officiate and burial will be in Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.

Mabel (Karnes) Hayes
Mrs. Mabel (Karnes) Hayes, 86, of Lake Village, Ind., formerly of Bradley and Galatia, died at 3:43 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.
She was married to Alwin "Red" Karnes. He preceded her in death in June 1947. She later married Leland Hayes and he died in January 1979.
She was born on May 10, 1912, in Brushy Township to the late James "Tip" and Anna (Baker) Golliher.
Mrs. Hayes retired from Manteno Mental Health Center in 1986. She was a member of the Galatia Order of Eastern Star and Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Galatia.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Gratton and Frankie Karnes of Galatia, David and Annette Karnes of Bradley, Richard and Nancy Hayes of Lake Village, and Marvin and Sandy Hayes of Bradley; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith and her husband "Zip" Dietz; and a nephew, James Golliher.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Brown, three brothers, Pete, M.D. and Otto Golliher, and a grandson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Vola Sittig and the Rev. Ernie Donoho will officiate. Burial will be in Rhine Cemetery near Raleigh.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
Clara Ellen Barker
Mrs. Clara Ellen Barker, 63, a resident of Harrisburg Care Center, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Mrs. Barker was born on May 9, 1935, in Wasson to the late William and Arvey (Conkel) Joyner.
She was a Baptist by faith.
In June of 1959, she married Isaac "Junior" Barker. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Bill Seets of Harrisburg, and Sandy Gibbs of Thompsonville; a son, William "Billy" Barker of Harrisburg; a brother, Gilbert Joyner of Enfield; a sister, Helen Newcomb of Harrisburg; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill "Shotgun" Joyner, and a sister, Gertrude Rose.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery near Herod.
Letha M. Waltz
Mrs. Letha M. Waltz, 75, of 2300 Chickasha St., in Eldorado, died at 4:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She married Eugene Waltz Jan. 1, 1946, in Eldorado. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Wendy Herbert of LaPiere, Mich.; a brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Lucille Wright of Flint, Mich.; four grandchildren, Don, Danny, Daniel, and Charlie, all of Flint; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; two brothers, and five sisters.
She was born on Aug. 11, 1923, in Raleigh, to the late Willis and Birdie (Pritchett) Wright.
She was a past member of Flinton Lawn Baptist Church of Flint.
