Edna Shelter
Mrs. Edna Shelter, 85, of Galatia, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 1997 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
She was married to Bernard Shetler and he preceded her in death in December, 1973.
Mrs. Shetler was born on May 20, 1911, in Saline County to the late Sam and Allie McFarland Galbraith.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. She was retired from the State Hospital in Kalazamoo, Mich. as a Ward Attendant.
Surviving are an aunt, Ella Shelton and a sister-in-law, Lorene Shetler, both of Galatia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Richey and Sophie Gabraith.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and prayer service at 7 p.m. The Rev. Jack Stallings will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Elizabethtown.
Martha G. Thomas
Mrs. Martha G. Thomas, 77, of Ozark, died at March 8, 1997 at 4:50 p.m. in Hillview Health Care Center at Vienna.
She was a retired U.S. Post Mistress in Ozark after 38 years. She was a member of National Post Masters League and the Taylor United Methodist Church.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1920, in Johnson County to Canna and Eva Martin Burke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas on April 26, 1996, her parents, Canna and Eva Martin Burke, one son, John Franklin Thomas, 10 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a son, Allen and wife, Karen Thomas of Carterville; a daughter, Sue and husband, Edward Treat of Ozark; two sisters, Lillie Askew of Peoria and Lula "Doodie" Barlas of Saint Charles; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Aly Funeral Home in Vienna, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Bobby Moore and the Rev. Jim Shipley will officiate. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Tip of Illinois Hospice Program.
James Lewis Turner
James Lewis Turner, 62, of Rt. 1, Herod, died Tuesday night, June 3, 1997 at his home.
He worked for the EJE railroad 20 years and was a Vietnam Army veteran with service in Germany and a member of Rosiclare Free Pentecostal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce; three daughters, Loretta Lynn Turner and Debra Ann Turner, both of Joliet, and Javanna Berry of Ohio; three stepdaughters, Laura Pedroza of Merrillville, Ind., Theann Jarman of Cheboygan, Mich. and Leonida Tolbert of Rosiclare and James Allen of Joliet; a stepson, Theodore Trautman of Fort Payne, Ala.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hughey and Mary Ledbetter Turner; and a sister, Freda Smock.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The Revs. Vernon Shaw Jr., Escol Smith Jr. and Steve Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery with military rites.
Gene Sanders
The Rev. Gene Sanders, 74, formerly of Shawneetown, and surrounding area, died Wednesday morning in St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was the husband of Dorothy Sanders of St. Louis.
Services will be held Friday at Bayliss Baptist Church in St. Louis. Burial will be in St. Louis.
The Ziegenhein Funeral Home of St. Louis is in charge of the arrangements.
Nelle Mae Smith
Services for Ms. Nelle Mae Smith, 53, of Indianapolis, Ind. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 1997 at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Lawrence Nathaniel Cole

John Tillman Childs
John Tillman Childs, 88, of Harco, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997 at 6:03 a.m. in Veterans Affairs Hospital in Marion.
He was a member of Harco Baptist Church and Harrisburg American Legion Post 167.
Mr. Childs was a retired miner and a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born on April 19, 1909, in La Follette, Tenn., to the late William and Emma Brymer Childs.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Emily Propes; two daughters, Judy Sivok and Nellie Childs, both of Harco; a sister, Mrs. C.D. (Ruth) Moore of Manteno; three brothers, Charles Childs of Harco, Ira and wife, Rhoda Childs of Washington and Kenneth Childs of Peoria; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to service time Friday. The Rev. Art Donley will officiate. Burial will be in Brushy Cemetery.

Aliene Frailey
Mrs. Aliene Frailey, 81, of Cave-in-Rock, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997 in Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner Frailey in 1989.
Surviving are one son, Gary Frailey of Cave-in-Rock; and one daughter, Barbara Elkins of University Park.
Mrs. Frailey was a member of the United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

Pearl Friend
Pearl Friend, 89, of Winter Haven, Fla. died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was married to the former Josephine Wakefield and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Mr. Friend was an electric engineer for Union Electric Co.
He was born on May 21, 1908, in Keens, Ill., to the late Frederick and Frances Friend.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Rita Friend of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Terri Wright and Brad Friend, both of Harrisburg, and Angela Smith of LaGrange Park; a sister, Agnes; and two brothers, Oran and Wilbur Friend.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lambert Family Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service time Sunday. Burial will be in Winter Haven, Fla.
James and Jymme Murphy
James Murphy, 27, and wife, Jymme Murphy, 28, son and daughter-in-law of Donald and Stella Murphy, were murdered in their home Saturday, June 28, 1997 in Marseilles. Donald Murphy is a former resident of Eldorado.
Jim and Jymme leave three children, Adam, 7, Kelsey, 5, and Taylor, 18 months. James is also survived by his parents, Donald and Stella Murphy; two brothers, Paul Murphy and Donald Murphy of Joliet; and six sisters, Kathleen, Nancy, Laura, Audrey, Annette and Roxanne; numerous nephews and nieces; and his grandmother, Audrey Taylor.
He is also survived by uncles, Glen Murphy of Galatia and Bill Murphy of Joliet; and aunts, Ethel Barton, Helen Kelley, Margaret Mundy and Nell Dolden of Eldorado.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at the Sontag Funeral Home in Joliet.
A trust fund has been established for the Murphy children at the Turn Oaks Savings Bank, 125 West Bluff St., Marseilles, IL 61341.
Leon Cossey
Leon Cossey, 72, of Golconda, died Saturday afternoon, June 28, 1997 at his home.
He was a World War II veteran, and a member of Teamsters Local in Phoenix and the Pope County Golden Circle Seniors Group.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Cossey of Phoenix and Ronald Cossey of Golconda; a sister, Shirley Goba of Swainsboro, N.C.; a stepsister, Helen McDuffee of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a brother, Larry Cossey of Golconda; and a stepbrother, Frank Elam of Peoria.
His wife, the former Faye Broadway, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery, south of Eddyville.
William Paul Ledbetter
William Paul Ledbetter, 52, of Huntington Beach, Calif., passed away Saturday evening, as a result of a plane crash.
He was born in Hardin County on Dec. 25, 1944, to the late Howard and Viola Brown Ledbetter.
He was employed by General Tel in California and a 1963 graduate of Cave-in-Rock High School.
Surviving are his wife, Jan Ledbetter; and children, Rebekah, Mark, Rachel and John; a sister and brother-in-law, Gertie and Jack Quertermous of Harrisburg and Bob and Norma Ledbetter of Louisville, Ky.. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laverne Patterson; and a brother in infancy.
Funeral and burial will be in California at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Harold "Lee" Kielhorn Jr.
Services for Harold "Lee" Kielhorn Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 1997 at Gaskins Funeral Home, where friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 30.
Lee Kielhorn was born August 2, 1952, a Saturday, at Eldorado, Ill. and departed this earth on June 28, 1997, also a Saturday, in Harrisburg, Ill. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va. He later attended Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg.
He is survived by his mother, Marjorie, of Harrisburg. His father, Harold Kielhorn, preceded him in death on August 29, 1982. Lee is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.
Lee was an artist, specializing in painting landscapes and animals, before being disabled in 1989 with Cystic Fibrosis. He was a Christian by faith and baptized at Liberty Baptist Church and was a member of the Ledford Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Graves, pastor of Ledford Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Ledford Cemetery.
