Lorene Mahoney
Mrs. Lorene (Gasaway) Mahoney, 86, of 1801 Organ St., Eldorado, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997 in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was the widow of Lawrence Mahoney.
Mrs. Mahoney was born on March 13, 1911, in Wasson, to the late Benjamin and Stella Parks Gasaway.
She was a retired clerk and a member of Eldorado First Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school.
Surviving are a brother, Kenneth Gasaway of Eldorado; a niece, Nancy Hise of Eldorado; a nephew, Jim Gasaway of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Anna Gasaway of Eldorado and Faye Gasaway of Cottage Hills; and five stepsons, Chuck, Leo, John, Larry and Bob Mahoney. Two brothers, Douglas Gasaway and Eugene Gasaway, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from noon until funeral time. The Rev. David Gilley will officiate and burial will be in Webber Camp Ground Cemetery at Galatia.

Marjorie Whyte
Mrs. Marjorie Whyte, 86, of 3955 Raleigh Road, Eldorado, died at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Her husband, William Whyte, preceded her in death on June 19, 1993.
She was born in Eldorado, June 17, 1911, to the late Hancel E. and Bessie Jones Choisser.
Mrs. Whyte was a member of the Eldorado First Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pat Whyte of Eldorado, and Gordon and Collen Whyte of Mount Carmel; a daughter, Carolyn Etienne of Flippin, Ark.; six grandchildren, Lisa Etienne Davis of Elizabethtown, Ludenia Etienne Austin of Cave-in-Rock, Michelle Whyte Richerson of Keyser, W. Va., Marsha Whyte Johnston of Eldorado, Matthew Whyte of Eldorado and Kent R.B. Whyte of Mount Carmel; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Howard Scott will officiate and burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery at Eldorado.

Bernice Latham Schubel
Mrs. Bernice Latham Schubel, 85, of Eldorado, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, in Eldorado City Care Center.
In May, 1940, she married Clyde F. Latham, who preceded her in death in September, 1968. In May 1976, she married Floyd Schubel, who preceded her in death in August, 1983. She was also preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Schubel was born on August 26, 1912, in Eldorado to the late Alfred Alden and Ora Mae Merrick Miller.
She was a retired nurse, who had worked at Ferrell Hospital and Pearce Hospital in Eldorado. She had also worked at Harrisburg Hospital and did private nursing for a number of years.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Latham Fowler; a sister, Kay Miller Bowers and brother-in-law, Quentin Bowers of Eldorado; and one grandson, Josh Fowler of Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with President James L. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Verdie Reed
Mrs. Verdie Reed, 89, of 1001 South Main St., Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at her home.
She was the widow of Earl Reed.
Further family details and arrangements will be announced later from Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Charles Woodrow Frailey
Charles Woodrow Frailey, 84, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at 7:35 a.m. at his home.
He was a member of Elizabethtown Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane Frailey; a daughter, Sharon Ingram of San Antonio, Texas; two stepdaughters, Lynn Summers of Gallatin, Tenn., and Dana Douglas of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Juanita Adcock of Moultrie, Ga., Geneva Wooton of Elizabethtown, and Wanda Knopinski of Boulder, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Janice Dyanne Bailey, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elizabethtown Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Willison officiating.
The body will be cremated.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock, where Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Carl E. Erwin
Carl E. Erwin, 56, of Route 5, McLeansboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at 12:55 a.m. in Welborn Hospital, Evansville, Ind.
He was born in Woodstock on Dec. 12, 1948, to James and Fern L. Erwin.
Mr. Erwin was a retired oil field worker and a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia A. Hutcheson. They were married on Nov. 28, 1962. Also surviving are his mother, Fern L. Erwin of McLeansboro; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Carla) Anderson of Dale; two brothers, Ralph Erwin of Dahlgren and Paul Erwin of McLeansboro; a sister, Sandra McBride of Mount Vernon; and two grandchildren, Bethany Erwin and Cory Nathan Anderson. He was preceded in death by his father, James Riley Erwin.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Garlin Burris and Bro. Robert Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Digby Hill Cemetery near Dale.

Charles Lee Lenard Sr.
Services for Charles Lee Lenard Sr., 76, of Route 1, Broughton, will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at 11 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and where the Masonic rites will be said at 7 p.m. The Rev. David Mays and the Rev. Bill Lenard will officiate. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery at McLeansboro with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 106.
Memorials may be made to Hospice in his memory.

Bernice Stephenson
Mrs. Bernice Stephenson, 76, wife of Bill Stephenson, 1150 Jefferson St., Eldorado died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at 8:57 p.m. in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was born on May 4, 1921, in Chicago, to the late William and Lillian (Hasse) Schroeder.
She was a retired factory worker and a member of Star General Baptist Church near Eldorado.
On Aug. 23, 1974, in Eldorado, she was married to Mr. Stephenson, who survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Rusteberg of Chicago and Edna Schutt of Arlington Heights; a brother, Leroy Schroeder of Park Ridge; several nieces; and nephews in the Chicago area; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Pauline Stephenson of Eldorado; two sisters-in-law, Edith Garris of Eldorado and Donna Grisham of Rantoul. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Earl Schroeder.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate and burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery at Eldorado.

Verdie Reed
Mrs. Verdie Reed, 88, died Tuesday at her home at 1001 South Main St., Harrisburg. She married Earl Reed on January 8, 1930. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1930.
Mrs. Reed was born on Jan. 19, 1909, in Stonefort to the late George and Cordelia Barger Kerr.
She was a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Gertrude Cook of Carrier Mills; a nephew, Donald Cook of Harrisburg; two nieces, Janet Kibler of Harrisburg and Trena Chaney of Terre Haute, Ind.; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Earl Reed Jr., in infancy, and two brothers, Clyde Kerr and Wayne Kerr.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Reed Funeral Church in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Harold Williams. will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral chapel.

Jim Lee Anderson
Jim Lee Anderson, of Madison, Miss., died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997 at his home following a brief illness.
He was self-employed.
He was born in Eldorado, on May 1, 1941, to the late Frank Henry and Edith Marie Auton Anderson.
Surviving are a son, Jade Lee Anderson of Meridian, Miss.; a brother, Fred Anderson of Stauton; and a sister, Barbara Childers, East Alton.

Marilyn "Kitty" Lloyd Hutson
Mrs. Marilyn "Kitty" Lloyd Hutson, 50, of 417 North Mill St., Carrier Mills, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at her home.
She was a teacher for 20 years and presently taught fifth grade at Carrier Mills Middle School.
She was born in Eldorado on Feb. 26, 1947, to Eugene and Naomi Street Lloyd.
Mrs. Hutson was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and was a member of Illinois Teacher's Association and Eldorado First Church of Christ.
Surviving are her mother, Naomi Lloyd of Carrier Mills; a daughter and her fiance, Lonna Kay Hutson and Adrian Clover, of Murphysboro; two sisters, Patricia and husband, Jerry Sweat of Benton and Jennifer Lloyd of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Lloyd and a brother, Terry Lloyd.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. It was Mrs. Hutson's request that services be private. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery at Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, Kitty requested that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the Marilyn Hutson Scholarship Fund and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Carrier Mills Elementary School.
