Florence Amado
Florence Amado, 85, of Ojai, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000 at the Ojai Valley Community Hospital from an extended illness. She was born Oct. 9, 1915 in Springfield, Mass.
Mrs. Amado lived in Ojai for 21 years, coming from Gardena, Calif. She worked with her husband for 40 years as owners of a real estate business. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Armand Russ Amado of Ojai; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Linda Scalise of Chatsworth, Calif.; brother Harold Gottlieb of El Paso, Texas; and one grandson.
A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai.

Robert Allen Kell
Robert Allen Kell, 63, of Channel Islands, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at his home following liver failure. He was born in Illinois and had lived in Ventura County for 30 years.
Mr. Kell was a self-employed stockbroker.
He is survived by his daughter Karen MacAuley of Moorpark; son Mark Kell of Oxnard; brother Lindy Kell of Ojai; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Robert M. Komura
Robert M. Komura, 66, of Ojai, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000. He was an orthodontist in Ojai and Ventura for 33 years.
Dr. Komura was born in 1934, grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and graduated from North Hollywood High School before completing undergraduate work at the University of Southern California (USC). He married Lucy "Skip" Tanaka in 1957 and completed dental school at Case Western of Ohio, where he was named to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dental honor society. After serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, stationed at Port Hueneme, he returned to USC to complete a master's degree in orthodontics.
Dr. Komura's hobbies included biking, backpacking, skiing and foreign travel. He was a member of the USC Alumni Assocition and the Century Club, and was an anonymous donor to numerous philanthropies.
He is survived by his wife Skip of Ojai; daughters Jill and Jan; sister Ann Teschler; a maternal aunt and uncle; and several cousins.
Private services for the family are pending.

Pearl Peterson
Pearl Peterson, 86, of Ojai, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001. She was born July 5, 1914 in Lancaster County, Neb., and had lived in Ojai since 1950.
Mrs. Peterson was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ojai. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and singing.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Arlene and Troy Lawson of Ojai; sisters and brothers-in-law Ferne and Ellis Smith of Ojai, Clarice and George Schrader of Ventura, and Audrey and Herbert Gobel of Arroyo Grande; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Peterson in 1980 and her brother Raymond Miller.
Friends may call at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai today from noon to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the First Baptist Church of Ojai, with Dr. Wilbur Skeels officiating. Interment at Ivy Lawn Cemetary will immediately follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ojai.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai.

Cathy Marsha Putnam
Cathy Marsha Putnam, 51, of Oak View, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001 at her home following a brief illness. She was born March 12, 1949 in New York, and lived in the Ojai Valley for 38 years. She was a retired store manager.
Mrs. Putnam is survived by her husband Donald Putnam Sr. of Oak View; daughters Katy Lopez of Ventura, Mary Robles of Oak View, and Dominique Putnam of Taft; son Donald Putnam Jr. of Oak View; sister Connie Flores of Ventura; brother William P. Greenrock Jr. of Oak View; mother Mary Greenrock of Oak View; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father William P. Greenrock Sr.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Ivy Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam Family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Art McDonald
Art McDonald, 58, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Denver Medical Health Center in Denver, Colo. He was born May 4, 1942 in Visalia, Calif.
He grew up and attended school in Visalia and graduated from Mount Whitney High School in 1961. He attended Sioux Falls College from 1961 through 1964 and graduated from Fresno Pacific College in 1972. Mr. McDonald received his master's degree from California State University-Fresno in 1974.
He married Barbara Chapman on June 12, 1964 in Visalia. In 1977, they moved to Ojai, where Mr. McDonald founded the first for-profit Federal Halfway House. Before his retirement, he had established 17 Halfway Houses throughout the United States. In 1992, the McDonalds moved to Sioux Falls.
Mr. McDonald was a member of the Oak Hills Baptist Church. He was currently serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Sioux Falls, and was a board member of the University of Sioux Falls Foundation, Fresno Pacific College Foundation, North American Baptist Seminary Leadership Foundation and the Carroll Institute. He was past-president of the International Halfway House Association.
He is survived by his wife Barbara McDonald of Sioux Falls; son and daughter-in-law John and Yvonne of Sioux Falls; daughter and son-in-law Deb and Harlan Elrich of Sioux Falls; sister Beverly Chapman of California; sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and Jack Medina of Oregon; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Stewart Center at the University of Sioux Falls with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Fresno Pacific College Foundation.
Arrangements were under the direction of Miller Funeral Home-Valley View Chapel in Sioux Falls.

Aletha 'Lee' Lampson
Aletha "Lee" Margaret Lampson, 84, of Ojai, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at her home after a long battle with emphysema and a lung tumor. She was born June 24, 1916 in Grass Valley, Calif., to Della and George Simmons.
She was married twice. Her first marriage was to Richard G. Waring, who was the county recorder of Stanislaus County for 39 years. Together they started the Community Concert Series in Modesto where they lived. Later, she married Norman Lampson. They had a large walnut orchard in the San Joaquin Valley and did much traveling, especially to Mexico.
Mrs. Lampson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ojai.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Waring of Ojai; former husband Richard G. Waring of Modesto; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Lampson in 1982.
The family wishes to thank all the Hospice care-givers, especially Carol McCormick, her primary nurse, and Suzie Salguero of Help of Ojai.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Ojai, with Pastor Wilbur Skeels officiating.

Darwin McCredie
Darwin McCredie, 87, of Ojai, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 in Ojai from natural causes. He was born July 13, 1913 in Gaylord, Mich., and lived in Ojai for 19 years, coming from Camarillo.
He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in economics and served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot. Mr. McCredie's hobbies included baseball, investing and birds.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary J. McCredie of Ojai; daughters Christine Caputo of Ventura, Anne McCredie of Ojai, and Gail E. Massion of Aptos, Calif.; sons Darwin B. McCredie of San Francisco, and Mark P. McCredie of Ventura; sisters Opal Grace of Massachusetts, Evelyn Tucker of Kansas, and Katherine Vaughan and Suzanne Hecht of Michigan; brothers K.J. McCredie of Orange, Calif., and D.K. McCredie of Laguna, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at the McCredie residence at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Ross Hoiles Hilles
Ross Hoiles Hilles, 77, of Ojai, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2000 of natural causes. He was born Nov. 3, 1923 in Alliance, Ohio to Ross and Effie Hilles.
He was raised in Alliance and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the early 1940s, serving three years as a navigator during World War II. He later owned and operated a burial vault business.
In 1960, Mr. Hilles relocated to Ojai, where he married Betty Ragland. He co-owned and operated Ojai's Kentucky Fried Chicken with his brother-in-law Carl Ragland and worked as a real estate broker.
In 1984, he married Virginia Burke and moved to Grants Pass, Ore. He had returned to the Ojai Valley this past year to reunite with friends and live closer to his stepson Raymond Burke.
Mr. Hilles was an exalted ruler of Elks Lodge #1430 for one of the 51 years that he was a member.
He is survived by his stepsons Ray Burke of Ojai, and Michael Burke of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Ross and Effie Hilles, first wife Betty Ragland in 1982, and second wife Virginia Burke in 1999, and his brothers Richard, Walter and Wilbur and sister Carolyn.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Madelyn E. Gallio
Madelyn E. Gallio, 84, of Ojai, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at Ojai Valley Community Hospital. She was born April 23, 1916 in Tulare, Calif., and had lived in Ojai for 62 years.
Mrs. Gallio worked in retail sales. She also volunteered at the Little House, attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was active with social functions within her Mira Valley Mobile Park community.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim Gallio of Ojai; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Charlyn Gallio of Rancho Palos Verdes; and one granddaughter.
Rosary was recited Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9 a.m. Jan. 15 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Father William V. Olivas, O.S.A., officiating. Interment followed at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
Memorials may be made to Little House of Ojai.
Arrangements were under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Susan Bowie Mushaney
Susan Bowie Mushaney, 96, of Ojai, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. She was born April 16, 1904 in Edinburgh, Scotland. She lived in the Ojai Valley for 71 years
Her family came to Ventura County in 1914 to live in Fillmore.. She graduated from Fillmore High School in 1922 and was married in 1925 to J. Fred Mushaney in Ventura.
Mrs. Mushaney was a homemaker and belonged to the Ojai Presbyterian Church. She did volunteer work at Direct Relief International in Santa Barbara until she was unable to travel.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law John F. and Wanda of Murrieta, James L. and Marie of Torrance, and Melvin L. and Mary of Ojai; son Robert of Ojai; sister Isabel Mushaney of Bakersfield; sisters-in-law Hattie Bowie of Ojai, and Marie Bowie of Camarillo; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Mushaney in 1959, son Bill in 1968, grandsons Carey in 1964 and David in 1985, and daughter-in-law Jean in 1996.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at Clausen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leon Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
Memorials can be made to Direct Relief International, Santa Barbara.

DeForrest Elliott Roberts
DeForrest Elliott Roberts, 82, of Ojai, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 in Ventura as a result of cancer. He was born Aug. 22, 1918 in Los Angeles, and lived in Ventura County for 25 years, coming from the San Fernando Valley. He was best known as "Elliott."
Mr. Roberts served his country in World War II and fought in the European Theater in the Battle of the Bulge. He was placed in a field hospital with frozen feet and, due to circumstances beyond his control, was listed as missing in action. Upon his return to the United States, he received a Purple Heart.
After the war, he joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department where he served for 24 years and retired as a fire inspector. He then became the fire chief for Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National parks.
After moving to Ojai, he became a docent at the Ventura County Museum. He was later asked to come to the Ronald Reagan Library as a docent and to help train others before the library opened to the public. He was also a docent for the Ojai Valley Museum, working with Bob Browne. He was always active in the churches he attended, the last being Ojai Valley Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Armetia Roberts of Ojai; daughters and sons-in-law Cherrie and Dennis Johnson, and Merrie and Chuck Preston; son "Woody" DeForrest Elliott Roberts Jr.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his brother Warren Roberts, brother-in-law Robert Gregg, sister-in-law Reata Boerner and grandson Daniel Johnson.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at Clausen Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Moore officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Widows' and Orphans' Fund of the Los Angeles City Fire Department or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Stella Mae Wold Guest
Stella Mae Wold Guest, 87, of Ojai, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001. Her grandparents had emigrated from Norway. She was born Feb. 18, 1913 in South Dakota and moved with her family to Southern California in 1926.
After graduating from the University of California at Los Angeles, she taught elementary school, married, and raised three children. She served in many offices of the PTA and church groups to which she belonged, taught Sunday School for 18 years, and worked with the La Puente Historical Society. She was the sweepstakes amateur flower arrangement winner at the Los Angeles County Fair, then chairman and judge for two years.
Mrs. Guest moved to Ojai in 1976 after her husband's retirement as a school principal in La Puente-Hacience Heights. For seven years she was a docent at the Ventura Historical Museum. She and her husband traveled extensively.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Suppe of Princeton, N.J.; daughter Marilyn Izzi of Ojai; son Ken Guest of Carlsbad, N.M.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1290 E. Grand Ave. in Ojai. A reception will follow.
Donations may be made in her name to Lutheran Braille Workers, P.O. Box 5000, Yucaipa, CA 92399, or to Little House Senior Center, 111 W. Santa Ana St., Ojai, CA 93023.
Arrangements are under the direction of McDermott-Crockett Mortuary in Santa Barbara.

Dorothy "Toot" Mueller
Dorothy "Toot" Mueller, 77, of Ojai, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 at Ojai Valley Community Hospital after a short illness. She was born May 30, 1923 in Cove Springs, Ark., and had lived in Ojai for 51 years.
"Toot," as she was known to her friends, worked at Bill Baker's Bakery for 30 years. She was a sports fan and coached and organized girls' softball in Ojai. Her hobbies included fishing, bowling and bingo.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Zandy of Bakersfield, Gary and Bernadett of Tigard, Ore., and Bill and Rhonda of Spirit Lake, Idaho; daughter and son-in-law Vonna "Sharon" and Red Marsh of Oak View; brother Pete and wife Luci Vaughn of Ojai; sisters-in-law Erma Vaughn of Arkansas, Marie Vaughn of Louisiana, and Helen Vaughn of Ojai; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert J. Mueller and brothers Harman, John and Elmo Vaughn.
Services will be held at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai today at noon, with Curt Sharon officiating. Interment will be at Santa Paula Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation, 1306 Maricopa Highway, Ojai, CA 93023.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.

Francis T. Tymstra
Francis T. Tymstra, 85, of Ojai, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001 in Los Gatos after a brief illness. He was born July 11, 1915 in The Netherlands, coming to the United States at age 12.
Mr. Tymstra was a chemical engineer for Shell Chemical until his retirement in 1970. Following retirement, he lived in Ojai until the death of his wife Marie Tymstra in 1999.
He is survived by his children Frances VanZile, Peter Tymstra and Nancy Pfeiffer, daughter-in-law Jeanne Tymstra, son-in-law George Pfeiffer, sister and brother-in-law Sally and Jim True, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy or The World Wildlife Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos.
