Dorothy Evelyn Gardner
Dorothy Evelyn Gardner, 78, of Atascadero, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 10, 1922 in Petty, Texas, and had been a resident of Atascadero for two years.
Mrs. Gardner lived in Ojai from 1954 through 1998, coming from Ventura. She was active in the Ojai Valley Grange and a member of Ojai Valley Community Church. She was a homemaker whose hobbies included cooking, gardening and playing cards.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by her son John Gardner of Atascadero; son and daughter-in-law Fred and Donna Gardner of Ventura; brother and sister-in-law L.P. and Dorothy Skinner of Oregon; and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Cecil Gardner, in 1998.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 16, at 3 p.m. at the Ojai Valley Grange Hall at the corner of El Centro and Cruzero streets with Pastor Scott Harrell officiating. Call 646-4024 for more information.

Georgena Nix
Georgena Nix, 97, of Oak View, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at a Ventura convalescent hospital after a brief illness. She was born June 23, 1903 in Ojai, and was a lifelong Ventura County resident.
Mrs. Nix was a homemaker and volunteered for Help of Ojai, R.S.V.P. and Senior Nutrition.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Velma and Darrell Prader of Camarillo, and Lillie and Lee Walton of Pahrump, Nev.; brother Ralph Hansen of Upper Ojai; sister-in-law Lois Hansen of Upper Ojai; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, two sons and one daughter.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chapel of the Pines at the corner of Mahoney Avenue and Apricot Street in Oak View.

Emily Cornwall Colson
Emily Cornwall Colson, 94, of Ojai, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Ojai. She was born March 31, 1906 in New York City, N.Y., and had lived in Ojai for the past 25 years.
Before marriage, she traveled in Europe with her father who decoded Shakespearean ciphers. She was the president of the PTA and a member of the Central Council of the PTA in Rockville Centre, N.Y. She traveled extensively and lived in Mexico City, Mexico; Caracas, Venezuela; and Panama City, Panama. Her hobbies included taking motion pictures of her travels and collecting seashells.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Edward A. Colson of Ojai; daughter and son-in-law Lucy and Gene English of Santa Fe, N.M.; son and daughter-in-law Edward C. and Oksana Marie Colson of Greensboro, N.C.; and brother-in-law Paul M. and his wife Vera Colson of Massachusetts.

Pedro Alingod Dumaua
Pedro Alingod Dumaua, 70, of Ojai, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his home after a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1931, in Isabela, Philippines, and had lived in Ojai for 10 years, coming from the Philippines.
Mr. Dumaua had been a police officer in Isabela, and he was a member of the El Shaddai Prayer Partners.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dominga Dumaua of the Philippines; sons Jun Dumaua, Ray Dumaua, and Jaycee Dumaua; daughters Emma Unthank, Tess Dumaua, Necitas Hornsby, Fanny Manuel, Grace Magday, and Flor Alcazar; 14 grandchildren; four sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, with a vigil/prayer service Saturday at 6 p.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
Interment
will be at Isabela Cemetery in the Philippines.

Leona Ruth Morris
Leona Ruth Morris, 75, of Ojai, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Camarillo Convalescent Hospital. She was born March 21, 1925, in Cortland, Neb., and had lived in Ojai for 50 years.
Mrs. Morris had been a residential care giver.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Melvin Stene of Yucca, Ariz., and Sharon and John Cabrera of Oxnard; daughter Linda Morris of Ojai; sister Margaret Sapp of Canoga Park; twin sister Lille Robinson of Nixon, Texas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 23, at 10 a.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai, with Chaplain Bill Glaser officiating.
Private inurnment will take place at Nordhoff Cemetery in Ojai.

Dennis Charles Vaglica
Dennis Charles Vaglica, 56, of Ojai, died of a sudden illness Monday, March 19, 2001 in Ojai. He was born Oct. 6, 1944 in Glendale, Calif., and had lived in Ojai for 48 years.
Mr. Vaglica was retired from the Plumbers & Steam-fitters Local #484. He was a 1963 graduate of Nordhoff High School and worked on the reunion committee. He was also a member of the Ventura County Model A Club.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Connie Vaglica of Ojai; brother John and wife Nancy of Palm Desert; daughter and son-in-law Denise and Stephen Miller of Pocatello, Idaho; sons and daughters-in-law Darin and Tammy Vaglica of Ojai, and Chad and Amy Vaglica of Ventura; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Josephine Vaglica.
Friends may call at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai Thursday, March 22, from noon to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. at the Ojai Valley Community Church, with Pastor Larry Skinner officiating.

Rubye Lee Rich
Rubye Lee Rich, 87, of Ojai, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in Ventura. She was born Nov. 6, 1913 in Davis, Okla., to Evie and George Eddy, the oldest of five children. On Oct. 15, 1931 she married Loris V. Rich in Hallis, Okla.
Mrs. Rich had been a resident of Santa Maria for more than 55 years before moving to Ojai four years ago to be near her family. She was known in the Santa Maria area for her cooking talents, working for many restaurants locally for more than 35 years. She owned the Oak Knoll Restaurant until her retirement, and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Rich is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Kathleen Rich of Ojai, and Richard and Patricia Rich of Sacramento; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Loris V. Rich and son Bobby Loris Rich.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ, 795 E. Foster Road, Santa Maria. Burial will follow in the Santa Maria District Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Monday in the church only.

Timothy "Alex" Zinich
Timothy "Alex" Zinich, 44, of Ojai, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at his home. He was born March 31, 1956 in Altoona, Pa., and had been a Ventura County resident for 21 years.
Mr. Zinich was a judicial assistant for the Ventura County Superior Court for 18 years. His hobbies included dollmaking, gardening and country-western music and dancing.
He is survived by his partner of 18-1/2 years, Ron Martinez of Ojai; sisters Layna Zinich of San Jose, Calif., Serise Zinich of Caruthers, Calif., and Renay Holcomb of Alabama; brothers and sisters-in-law Evan and Cheryl Zinich and Brad and Desiree Zinich, all of Coarse Gold, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 31, at 10 a.m. in the San Roque Church in Santa Barbara with Father James M. Ford. Burial will follow in the Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard. Visitation and Rosary will be private.

Clayton Paul Robinson
Clayton Paul "Robbie" Robinson, 80, of Ojai, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at a Ventura hospital following a long illness. He was born May 3, 1920 in Parma, Idaho, and moved to California in 1932.
He graduated from Long Beach Wilson High School in 1938, after which he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He worked for the Department of the Navy as an electronic technician at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard until he retired in 1976. He moved to Ojai in 1967 from Bellflower.
Mr. Robinson's hobbies included sports and walking in Matilija Canyon. He and his wife traveled extensively following his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bette Robinson; daughter Celia Ann Demers of Kentucky; sons Steven Robinson of Carmel Valley, and Casey Robinson of Ojai; sister Mary Smith of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the fall at the Fountain Youth Spa in Niland, Calif., where the Robinsons spent the last 25 winters.

Wilmer "Bill" Soest
Wilmer "Bill" Soest, 93, of Ojai, died of natural causes Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Ojai Valley Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1907 in Fort Wayne, Ind., and lived in Ojai for six years, coming from Los Angeles.
Mr. Soest was a mechanic for 30 years, working on Volkswagen "bugs." He was known as "the bird man," being able to feed blue jays from his fingers. He was a gardener and a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Ojai.
He is survived by his stepdaughters Margaret G. Jarvis of Ojai, and Anna Gomez of Bakersfield; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and son Donald Soest.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Ojai, with Pastor Eric Malmstrom officiating. A private interment
service will be held.
