William Kenneth Webb
William "Ken" Webb, 46, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his home in Ventura. He was a fifth generation Ventura native, born March 7, 1955, in Ventura.
He graduated from Ventura High School in 1973, and then joined his father and brother Daniel in the building trade for 28 years. As a carpenter he built residential homes throughout Ventura County, San Fernando Valley and Hawaii. He lived on the big island of Hawaii from 1977 until 1982, when the Kelawai lava flow destroyed homes he and Daniel had built in the Royal Gardens and Kalapona, near the Black Sands Beach. His interests included water sports, surfing, sailing, and he had been on a Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing team that raced from Kona to HIlo.
In 1988, he married Dana Lin Convey and they resided in Ojai while he helped build the Mirror Lake Homes, which was a family project on lands from the Mira Monte Ranch.
In recent years, Mr. Webb helped his wife Dana operate Old Hat Vintage Clothing in downtown Ventura.
He is survived by his wife Dana of Ventura; parents Eugene and Nadine Webb; brother Daniel Webb and his son Andrew of Ojai; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Margie Webb and their children Ronnie, Erin and Matthew, all of Clovis; sister and brother-in-law Jeanine and Patrick Luttrell and their son Patrick, of Paso Robles.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

Carol Sidoti
Carol Sidoti, 78, of Ojai, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at St. John's Medical Center in Oxnard. She was born May 17, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio. She had been a chef for 30 years and worked at the Seafarers Restaurant.
Mrs. Sidoti moved to Ojai in 1980. She spent years working at Little House as a volunteer, and was one of the original Gillespie Girls. In 1993, she was nominated Volunteer of the Year and crowned queen, and she rode on the float in the Fourth of July parade.
Mrs. Sidoti is survived by her daughters Kathleen Ann Tyra of Emmet, Ark., and Carol Janet Delude of Cypress, Calif.; sons Michael Anthony Sidoti of Claremont, Calif., Timothy Francis Sidoti of Flagstaff, Ariz., Dennis Ralph Sidoti of San Clemente, Calif., William Bryan Sidoti of Lawndale, Calif., Peter Thomas Sidoti of Palmdale, Calif., and Patrick Sidoti of Rimrock Ariz.; brothers Thomas James Catalano of Parma, Ohio, and Anthony Joseph Catalano of Hollywood, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held April 17 at Clausen Funeral Home, with Pastor Gregory Sanders officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

G. John Zauner
G. John Zauner, 99, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Ojai Valley Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 13, 1902, in Hungary.
Mr. Zauner had a very active life. He had his own beauty salon in New York before moving to Santa Monica to continue his 45 years as a hair stylist. At age 65, he and his wife Frances retired to Ojai at the Mira Valle Mobile Home Park. He was the longest living charter member of the Soule Park Golf Club, where he won the President's Cup at the age of 93. He was still hitting golf balls up to age 97 and still putting at 99.
Mr. Zauner was a lifetime member of Food Share, which provided him with many friends and the opportunity to keep in shape while helping those in need.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews on both coasts. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Frances Zauner.
Family and friends will be invited to a memorial service in the near future. Memorial gifts may be sent to Food Share, which will apply gifts to charitable uses.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Geraldine "Gerry" Broadbent
Geraldine "Gerry" Broadbent, 90, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Ojai, about a month before her 91st birthday. She was born May 24, 1910, in Forest Grove, Ore.
While she was young, her family lived in several different states, but finally settled in Long Beach, Calif., where she attended junior high and high school and later worked at the lunch counter at Newberry's. She married Don Broadbent June 4, 1933, in Long Beach. After their marriage, they made their home in Ventura until they moved to the Ojai Valley in 1949.
In 1965, when both were in their mid-50s, they sold their Ojai property and bought 40 acres of mostly timberland in Battle Ground, Wash., where Mr. Broadbent built a one-bedroom home and worked on plans to build a two-bedroom home. After her husband's death in 1989, Mrs. Broadbent moved back to the Ojai Valley. She maintained her own home until mid-1998, when she began to need assistance with daily living.
Mrs. Broadbent has served as church treasurer and was a Sunday school teacher for many years, both in Oak View and Washington. After her return to Ojai Valley from Washington, she became an active member of Ojai Presbyterian Church and attended a Bible study group there. She was also a member of the Ojai Valley Grange and also the grange in Washington. Her interests included sewing, baking cookies, gardening and bird watching and feeding.
Mrs. Broadbent is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin Keith and Darlene Broadbent, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Richard Beall, of Oak View.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Broadbent in 1989.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the care and attention given to her at The Villa of Ojai residential care home and at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Ojai Valley Community Hospital.
Services were held April 21 at 2 p.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai. Private burial was held at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.

Edith M. Doherty
Edith M. Doherty, 93, of Santa Ana, Calif., died Friday, April 27, 2001. She was born Jan. 28, 1908, in Milwaukee, Wis. She and her husband Matt moved their family to Ojai in 1957, where Mrs. Doherty lived until 1993.
She is survived by her children Celia Haight of Santa Ana; Ronald Doherty of Londonderry, N.H.; and Michael Doherty of San Dimas, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband Matt Doherty.
Graveside services were held May 1 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shannon-Donegan Chapel in Orange, Calif.

Evelyn Adaska
Evelyn Adaska, 98, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Casa Blanca nursing home in Oak View where she had lived for the past eight years.
She was born Sept. 3, 1903, in Czechoslovakia, and came to this country as a young girl with her family. They settled in Cicero, Ill., where she later became employed by Western Electric (Lucent Technologies).
After retiring, she moved to Ojai, where she volunteered and served as treasurer for the Theosophical Book Institute for the Blind. She was a member of the Theosophical Society and Our Lady and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church in Ojai.
Ms. Adaska is survived by great-nephews and great-nieces Dan, Karen and Allison Kusenda of St. John's, Mich., and Ralph and Paula Kusenda of Orange, Calif.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated today at 9 a.m. at Our Lady and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church in Ojai.
Arrangements are under the direction of McDermott-Crockett Mortuary in Santa Barbara.

Janice Michelle Lane
Janice Michelle Lane (formerly Janice Mayeda), 76, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died Thursday, April 26, 2001 after a battle with lung cancer. She was born Oct. 23, 1924 in Thayer, Mo.
She managed the business she and her husband owned for 20 years, a wholesale flower business in Carpinteria. They traveled frequently to Hawaii where they eventually lived for several years.
Mrs. Lane had been a prima ballerina with the St. Louis Ballet Troupe, and sang with Benny Goodman's band briefly. She was also an artist and a professional photographer. At one time she was president of the Ojai Valley Camera Club, and she was a frequent first place contestant of the Santa Barbara Camera Club.
She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club since 1973 where she held numerous offices, including president, and won many honors such as Woman of Achievement. She was active in Zonta and worked for employment of youths and the betterment of women.
Mrs. Lane was active in church work with the First Baptist Church of Ojai, and then the Life in Christ Church in Sierra Vista.
She is survived by her daughter Trilby Arnold of Hereford, Ariz.; her life partner Al Pound; her first husband and his wife Richard and Darlin' Arnold; sisters Opal and Delores of Missouri; two nieces; and two cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, infant daughter, infant granddaughter and her second husband.
A memorial service will be held May 6 at 3 p.m. at the Life in Christ Church in Sierra Vista.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Cancer Society, or dried or silk flower arrangements are requested to be given to the care facilities.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Mortuary in Sierra Vista.

William H. "Bill" Miller
William H. "Bill" Miller, 61, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Acacias Care Center in Ojai. He was born Sept. 17, 1939, to Charlie H. and Nina Miller in Monterey, Calif.
He is survived by his son Todd Miller of Redwood City, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Bonnie Miller of Clemmons, N.C.; and sister Adriana "Addie" Campbell of Paso Robles, Calif.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his mother in 1950, brother Charlie L. Miller in 1989, and his father on April 22, 2001.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, in Santa Rosa. Donations may be made in his memory to The Diabetes Society.

John Earl Osborn
John Earl Osborn, 80, of Oak View, died Saturday, May 5, 2001 in his home. He was born March 9, 1921 in Estacada, Ore., and came to Ventura County in 1930.
He married Maria Speroni in 1942 while serving in the Army Air Corps. In 1945, they came back to Ventura County where they built their home in Live Oak Acres in Oak View, where Maria still resides.
Mr. Osborn worked for Southern California Gas Company for 38 years, retiring in 1983. He was a train collector and had been a member of the Ventura County Racing Pigeon Association.
He is survived by his wife Maria Osborn of Oak View; daughters and sons-in-law Toni and Bill Cox of Angels Camp, Calif., and Jeannette and Ronald Bartlow of Mesa, Ariz.; sister and brother-in-law Jean and Don Heckler of Grants Pass, Ore.; sister-in-law Phyllis Osborn of West Covina; and seven grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited Friday, May 11, at 7 p.m. at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ojai. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 185 St. Thomas Drive, Ojai, CA 93023, or Assisted Home Hospice, 2140 Eastman Ave., Ventura, CA 93003.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main St. in Ventura, where friends may visit from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11.

William J. Slater
William J. Slater, 86, of Oak View, died Thursday, May 10, 2001. He was born Aug. 19, 1914, in New York, N.Y., and had lived in the Ojai Valley since 1996.
Mr. Slater had been an electronics salesman.
He is survived by his son James M. Slater of Santa Barbara.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Matthew Mark Watson
Matthew Mark Watson, 82, of Oak View, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Ojai Valley Community Hospital's Skilled Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Carnegie, Pa., and lived in Oak View for 30 years. He was a 40-year Ventura County resident.
Mr. Watson worked as a derrick man in the oil fields.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2043, Santa Paula. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater with the Army 762th Tank Battalion. He received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart after being wounded on Saipan.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Mary Watson of Oak View; daughters and sons-in-law Joyce and Ron Gardner of Bakersfield, and Judy Anne and Joe Gonzalez of Lompoc; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai Monday, May 21, from noon to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.
