Gabrielle Aime Andrews Hrock
Gabrielle Aime Andrews Hrock, 82, of Ojai, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Ojai. She was born Aug. 18, 1919, in Pawtucket, R.I., and lived in Ventura County for 28 years, coming from Deerfield, Ohio. She had lived in Ojai for five years.
Mrs. Hrock was a housewife and had been a clerical worker for the County of Ventura.
Her interests included sewing, crocheting and knitting; caring for animals, including many strays and donations to the Humane Society; and gardening.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Phil and Sharon Andrews, and Victor and Nancy Hrock, all of Ojai; two grandchildren in Oak View; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Lea Houle, brother Roger Houle, and husband Bill Hrock.
The family would like to thank all the people who cared for her at The Manor of Ojai, Father Peter and staff at St. Joseph's Health and Retirement Center in Ojai, and Lillian and the people with Assisted Home Hospice of Ventura County.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Health and Retirement Center Chapel in Ojai.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Health and Retirement Center Building Fund, P.O. Box 760, Ojai, CA 93024, or to the Humane Society, 402 Bryant St., Ojai, CA 93023.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Warren Henry Hamilton
Warren Henry Hamilton, 85, of Ojai, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Ojai. He was born April 11, 1916, in Madison, Wis., and lived in Ojai for 60 years, coming from Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Hamilton worked in the warehouse and delivery department at Sears in Ventura for 27 years, retiring in 1971.
He and his wife, Jane, traveled to Europe in 1967, to Hawaii and places around the United States. His interests included gardening and photography.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by his daughter, Barbara Sue Stocker, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sister Shirley Runyon of Lafayette, La.; two grandchildren, Christine Michal Stocker and David Hamilton Stocker; two twin great-grandchildren; and five nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Elnora "Jane" Hamilton.
A memorial service was held Feb. 4 at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai, with Pastor Lewis McClendon officiating. Private interment will be at Westwood Cemetery in Susanville, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home, Ojai.

Beverly Irene Wooley
Beverly Irene Wooley, 81, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tenn., of advanced metastatic breast cancer. She was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Colorado.
Mrs. Wooley spent most of her life in Ojai, where she was a business owner of the Purple Wagon Mall and various other properties, including the ranch she built and lived on for 37 years in the Ojai Valley.
She is survived by her daughter, Chrystie Lynn Burns, son-in-law Robert H. Burns, and five grandchildren, all of Nashville; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Dorothy Torrence of California; and former husband of 23 years, Sheb Wooley, of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosalee and Bev Torrence (adoptive father) and Bill Addington, sisters Iola and Evelyn Addington and brothers Lefty and Burch Addington.
Memorial donations may be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203 or to Breast Cancer Research, c/o Pollota Teamworks, 2709 Media Center Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90065.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at Harpeth Hills Cemetery immediately following the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Crawford Mortuary & Crematory in Nashville.

Jessie May Potts Russell
Jessie May Potts Russell, 88, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Ojai. She was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Polk County, Mo.
In 1932, she married Everett Russell. In the fall of 1936, they moved to California with their two children. In 1937, they moved to Goleta with now three children. In 1941, they moved to the Ojai Valley, where Mrs. Russell lived for 61 years.
She was a homemaker most of her life, and also assisted her husband at Russell's ARCO gas station for many years. In the late '50s and '60s she drove for the Ojai Taxi Company. Her hobbies included sewing and making clothes for her children and their children.
Mrs. Russell attended the Ojai Valley Wesleyan Church for 50-plus years and worked on many projects of the church. She also worked in the tea tent at the Ojai Tennis Tournament from the early 1950s until the '90s when her health forced her to stop.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Peggy Russell, of Santa Paula; daughter Donna Woolwine of Oak View; daughter and son-in-law Charlotte and Reaford Wear of Santa Paula; cousin Joe Potts of Ojai; sisters-in-law Eva Hancock, Fern Potts, Betty Krzyminski, and brother-in-law Grover Spitz, all of Missouri; sister-in-law Grace Russell of California; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Everett Russell, in 1999.
Friends may call at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai Friday, March 22, 2002, from noon to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Ojai Valley Wesleyan Church Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m., with a graveside service following at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo. Pastor Lyn Thomas will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ojai Valley Wesleyan Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Lon Stewart Locey
Lon Stewart Locey, 81, of Oak View, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, after enduring brain surgery to remove a blood clot. He was born July 28, 1920, in Santa Maria, Calif., and moved to Ventura with his family in 1928. He attended Cabrillo Junior High, where he was elected student body president in 1936, Ventura High School, where he was an all-leaague center, and Ventura College, where he also played football.
Later, Mr. Locey served in the Army Air Corps in Alaska during World War II, where he was a mess sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon returning to Ventura, he worked as a bus driver, owned a Richfield service station on Thompson Boulevard in Ventura, worked in the oil fields, and finally retired as a teamster.
The Loceys moved to Oak View in 1968, where he and his wife became horse trainers and accomplished riders. They were both elected president of the Ventura County Saddle Club on several occasions. Mr. Locey was also a fan of the Dodgers, Lakers and Bruins.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Locey; son Bill Locey of Ventura; and sister Patricia Johnson of Las Vegas.
Arrangements were under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Arthur W. Gonzales
Arthur W. Gonzales, 76, of Atascadero, Calif., died March 9, 2001, at the University of California at San Diego Medical Center, due to a heart attack. He was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Santa Barbara, Calif., and lived most of his life in Ojai, graduating from Nordhoff High School in 1942. He was active in football and track.
Mr. Gonzales spent four years in the Navy during World War II. He married Martha Willbur on March 16, 1945, and they had two sons. He and his family spent 15 years in missionary service in Belize, Central America, before returning to the United States due to health problems.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Gonzales, who returned to Belize to continue her missionary service; sons Arthur Jr. and Gary Gonzales; sisters Isabelle Kaye, Virginia Eastin, Helen Fox and Evelyn Ingram; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gonzales was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Lawrence Gonzales, and brother Larry Gonzales.
A memorial service was held March 17, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at Atascadero.

Salvatore Pietro
Salvatore Pietro, 89, of Ojai, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 26, 1912, in New York, and was an Ojai resident for 15 years, coming from Los Angeles.
A sculptor, Mr. Pietro was the son of a family of eminent Italian sculptors and studied at Beaux Arts in New York City and at the School of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy. He did commissions for private collections in addition to establishing Pietro Studios in Van Nuys and Los Angeles, where he produced interior and exterior architectural designs.
He was a past president of the Santa Barbara Art Association.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Johnson Pietro, of Ojai; stepson George Appel, of San Diego; sons Daniel Coverdale, of Pasadena, and Brian Pietro, of Malibu; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Velma Reynolds
Former Ojai resident Velma Reynolds, 84, died Friday, March 15, 2002. She was born July 30, 1917, in Oklahoma, and lived in Ventura County for 70 years.
Mrs. Reynolds worked for the Ojai Valley Packing House and also provided child care. For the past five years she lived in Fresno with her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Andy Anderson. She died at home with them.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Connie and Andy Anderson of Fresno; daughters Eva Foss of Ventura, and Louise Self of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Reynolds, grandson Ronnie Anderson, son-in-law Ray Foss, and son-in-law Tom Self.
Friends may call at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai today from 2 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

Ada L. May
Ada L. May, 101, of Ojai, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Ojai after a lengthy illness.She was born March 4, 1901, in Greenwich, England, and lived in Ojai for 45 years, coming from England.
Mrs. May was a nurse's aide. She served in the British Royal Marines during World War II.
She is survived by daughters Vera Philps, of Hampshire, England, and Rosemary James, of Ojai; son and daughter-in-law Monty and Iris James, of Hampshire, England; sister-in-law Phyllis Marsh and family, of Portland, Ore.; and many grandchildren and great-granchildren.
Private burial services will be held at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Frances R. Rains
Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Ojai. Known to many in Ojai as the impeccably dressed lady who had a big smile, kind word and a hug for anyone she met on her daily walks around town.
Honored by the American Red Cross for over 25 years of service, served as a Gray Lady volunteer at Acacias Care Center and St. Joseph's Convalescence Hospital, and countless hours at Help of Ojai delivering Meals on Wheels with her beloved husband, Lynn Rains.
She is survived by her children, Pat Barker of Newport, Ore., Carol Roberts of Ojai, David Barker of Ojai, Hal Barker of Indian Wells, Calif., and Alan Rains of Ojai; grandchildren Ashlee Barker, Daniel Barker, Ryan Rios, Brandi Rios, Jeffrey Rains, Jami Rains, Kristen Rains, Rod Alan Rains, and Rebecca Murry; and nine great-grandchildren.
All of us who knew and loved her will miss her forever.
Services will be held at Clausen Funeral Home, 316 E. Matilija St., Ojai, Calif., on Thursday, March 21, 2002, at noon.
The family asks that any donations be made to Help of Ojai.

Janine Werner-Revoyr
Janine Werner-Revoyr, 61, died February 5, 2002, after a courageous, nearly seven-year battle with cancer. She was a 40-year resident of Manhattan Beach and a part-time resident of Oak View, where she was remodeling her house and doing extensive landscaping of her garden for her hoped-for retirement. She was a loving, compassionate and intelligent woman who never missed "Final Jeopardy." An avid supporter of environmental and animal causes, she enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling, especially to Maui and Lanai.
Ms. Werner, born in Germany, was a graduate of Hollywood High School, a 1964 graduate of UCLA, and continued her studies in accountancy at USC. She managed her investment property.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Revoyr, daughter Amy (Melman) Swindle and son-in-law Scott Swindle of San Diego, stepdaughter Nina Revoyr of Los Angeles, mother Lore Barthelemy of Germany, sister Beatrice Pace and nephew Robert Pace of Shaker Heights, Ohio. She died eight days before the birth of her first grandchild, Jasmine Janine. Also leaving behind her loving dogs, Jason and Pepper, and her "guardian angel" cat, Alex, all rescued animals.
A memorial service was held at Ms. Werner's home on Saturday, February 9, 2002. Donations in her name may be made to the Humane Society of Ventura County in Ojai.

William H. Bowman
William H. Bowman, 85, of Ojai, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at his home. He was born May 21, 1916, in Milwaukee, Wis., and lived in Ojai for nine years, coming from Clearwater, Fla.
Mr. Bowman was an attorney. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Ojai.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Bowman, of Ojai; children William Jr. of Boston, Mass., James of Chicago, Ill., Thomas of Ojai, Susan of Clayton, Calif., John of Santa Monica, Calif., and Joe of Menlo Park, Calif.; and 22 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 26, at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ojai, with Father Patrick Kean, O.S.A., officiating. Interment was at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard following Mass. Visitation was held and rosary recited Monday, March 25, at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
Memorials may be made to Rosemore Foundation, 500 Kelton Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90024.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Bernice W. Atwell
Bernice W. Atwell, 85, of Ojai, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Ojai Valley Community Hospital from natural causes. She was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Nicehe, N.D., to Clifford and Carry Colison. She had been an Ojai resident for 41 years, coming from Culver City, Calif.
Mrs. Atwell and her husband were business owners and spent time traveling.
She is survived by her sons, Jack W. Atwell, of Palm Springs, Calif., and Curtis M. Atwell, Jr., of Simi Valley, Calif.; sister Adele McKnight of Sylmar, Calif.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Curtis M. Atwell, on Dec. 15, 1979.
No formal services were held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Mary M. Gholson
Mary M. Gholson, 89, of Ojai, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Ojai Valley Community Hospital. She was born May 16, 1912, in Benton County, Ark. She lived in Ojai for 68 years.
She and her husband, Joe Gholson, owned the Shell gas station in Meiners Oaks, and she was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Ojai. Her interests included traveling with her sister, sports and watching the Lakers and Dodgers.
Mrs. Gholson is survived by her daughter, Louise Downard; son and daughter-in-law Joseph Lynn and Shirley Gholson; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday, March 26, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai. Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Santa Paula Cemetery, with Dr. Wilber Skeels of the First Baptist Church of Ojai officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ojai.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Winona "Nona" Mackenzie
Winona "Nona" Mackenzie, 86, of Ojai, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Royal Gardens following a lengthy illness. She was born April 18, 1915, in Seattle, Wash., and lived in Ojai for 30 years, coming from the Los Angeles area.
Mrs. Mackenzie was a homemaker.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Timothy Lucum, and nieces Melinda Lucum and Susan Taylor, all of Washington.
Private services will be held.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Mary Nell Mortensen
Mary Nell Mortensen, 74, of Oak View, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at her home following an accidental fire. She was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Clarkesville, Ark., and lived in Oak View for 50 years, coming from Pima, Ariz.
Mrs. Mortensen had been a nurses's aide for Lomita Lodge and prior to that owned and operated Mortensen's Rest Home in Oak View.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wendell and Laura Mortensen, and grandson Justin Mortensen, all of Ojai; brothers Harold and Levi Pitts of Clarkesville, Ark.; sister Verna May Dunagan of Duncan, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Isabelle O'Brien
Isabelle O'Brien, 87, of Ojai, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. She was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Nova Scotia, Canada, and lived in Ojai for 20 years. She was a 25-year Ventura County resident.
Mrs. O'Brien had been a registered nurse.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Fred Bell, of Chatsworth; a brother, Dr. John Feindel, of Canada; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. O'Brien, and son Michael Patrick O'Brien.
Private family services have been held.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

Velma Stroub
Velma Stroub, 98, of Ojai, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Ojai Valley Community Hospital. She was born April 9, 1903, in Los Angeles, Calif., and lived in Ojai for 31 years.
Mrs. Stroub was a homemaker and also worked for the Los Angeles Public Library. She was also a member of the Kenskill Trailer Club.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence R. Stroub, of Duarte, Calif.
A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Ojai Villa Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, with Pastor Jeff Holland officiating. Private interment will be at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Daniel "Danny" Thomas Fraser
Daniel "Danny" Thomas Fraser, 43, of Oak View, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, following injuries from an auto accident. He was born Feb. 13, 1959, in Ventura to Ray and Frances Fraser. He was named for his grandfather, Daniel Thomas Fraser, a pioneer of Ventura County.
He was employed for the past two years by McJunkin Corporation as a warehouse supervisor. He was very active in the Ojai Men's Softball, Ventura Recreation Softball, and the Oxnard Clean and Sober Softball leagues. Throughout the years, he also coached the Oak View Little League and the Ventura Babe Ruth teams, along with the Packer Football League. Mr. Fraser was also active in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, and would stop whatever he was doing to listen and be of help.
He is survived by his mother, Frances Fraser, of Oak View; brother Ray Fraser of Oak View; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Dana Romero of Oak View; uncle Charles Lockett and wife Dorie of Modesto; aunts Dorothy Olmsted and Roberta Buckler and husband Joe, all of Everett, Wash., and Ruth Kirckof and husband Clarence of Brutton, Minn., and Mary Jane Bibb and husband Jack of Newport Beach, Calif.; best friend Cliff Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Fraser.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 29, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
Chapel services will be held Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to his mother, Frances Fraser.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
