Mary Jane (Middleton) Curtis
Mary Jane (Middleton) Curtis, born May 25, 1919, died peacefully at home on Jan. 1, 2002.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband Dale. They had been married for over 50 years. They had called Wenatchee their home for many years.
Mary Jane had first come to Wenatchee to visit her grandparents at Middleton Orchards in the 30s. Dale and Mary Jane maintained homes in Tuscon, AZ and Wenatchee after retiring from United States Agency for International Development, serving in Afghanistan, Brazil and Panama.
Mary Jane was an officer in the Navy during W.W. II. She enjoyed international travel and in her later years, traveled extensively in the United States, always meeting and making new friends.
She is survived by her sister, Mae Lerane Carlson of Sioux City, IA; her four sons, Glenn Earl Curtis of Los Angeles, CA, Robert Dale Curtis, Thomas Alva Curtis, Timothy Paul Curtis, all of Wenatchee.
Mary Jane spent a loving Christmas with her family and saw her great-grandchild who was born on Dec. 22, 2001.
There will be a viewing on Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 at Betts Funeral Home in Wenatchee and the funeral will be held in Cherokee, IA where the burial will be at the Curtis Family Plot.
Ken Hokanson
Pasco
Ken Hokanson, died Jan. 1, 2002, at the family home in Pasco with his loving family.
Ken was born June 22, 1927 in Fort Yates, ND on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. He was born to Goodwin and Delia (Bickford) Hokanson, in a family of 13 children.
He graduated from Fort Yates High School in 1947 and moved to Pasco to join his sister Mildred, already there.
He married Mary Davis on Jan. 27, 1951 and their first son David was born in 1953. Ken served two years with the Army, stationed in Anchorage, AK, where their second son Duane was born in 1956.
Ken and Mary celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last January. Always unable to pass up a day of hunting or fishing, he also enjoyed bicycling. He was a voracious reader, reading several books a week.
He is survived by his wife Mary at home; sons, David and Yong Ae of Lacy, Duane and Linda of East Wenatchee; sisters, Mildred and Marlene; bothers, Bob and Ole; grandchildren, Jennifer, Eric, Troy, Kristy and Caitlin; sister-in-law, Helen Sapp and family and many friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen, Murielle, Donnie and Lucille, brothers Harold, Guy, Wendell and Bill.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002 at First Christian Church, North 16th and W. Marie, Pasco, with Pastor Steve Lafarge officiating.
Edgar Coe Metcalf
Wenatchee
Edgar Coe Metcalf was born March 17, 1906 in Royalton, NY to William Coe Metcalf and Lemoria (Stumpf) Metcalf. He grew up on a farm, attended a one-room school through sixth grade, getting to school by horse and buggy. He attended Rose High School and graduated from Clyde High School in 1924. He graduated from Bucknell University in Electrical Engineering in 1930.
Ed worked for GE testing products then moved to New York City to work on the power supplying the subway system, where he met his "one true love" Bernice Smith. They married Feb. 12, 1935 in Cambridge, NY. They moved to Upper Darby, PA in 1937, where he was inspector for the Hartford Steam Boiler Co.
In 1941, he moved to Columbus, NE to inspect power plants in the Midwest for Fidelity and Casualty Insurance. In 1947, he was sent by RW Beck and Associates to Wenatchee as engineer consultant and joined the Chelan County PUD when it started in 1948, as project engineer. He became project manager for six additional generators at Rock Island Dam, then chief engineer through the building of Rocky Reach Dam till his retirement in 1972. He kept busy with additional consulting, designing and building a hybrid electric car and doing ranch chores. He was an articulate and gentle man who paid attention to details and people.
Edgar was active in the Presbyterian Church, IEEE, Past President of Washington State Society of Professional Engineers, life member of Appleatchee Riders.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice on May 23, 1989 and sister Marion.
He is survived by two daughters, Suzanne and Betsy of Wenatchee.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Jones & Jones Colonial Chapel in Wenatchee with Pastor Paul Pankey officiating. An interment
service will follow at the Wenatchee City Cemetery.
For those friends who wish, memorials may be made in Edgar's name to the Children's Hospital or to Spurs and Spokes.

Donovan T. Mooney
Wenatchee
Donovan T. Mooney, 86, passed away on Jan. 2, 2002, in Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
He was born in Cando, ND on Jan. 16, 1915, the son of Flossie and Arthur Mooney. He grew up there and graduated from Cando High School and later married Mildred A. Murray on Oct. 2, 1939. In 1940, they moved to Wenatchee, making their home on Pioneer Drive, where they had resided since 1947.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and sang in the choir for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and the Wenatchee Eagles Aerie No. 204.
He retired in 1979 and pursued his hobbies and activities of golf, fishing and pool as well as woodworking, making novelty toys and lawn furniture. He especially liked scroll work and the making of a variety of wood clocks.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mille of the home; son, Tom Mooney and wife Kathryn of Angwin, CA, their six children and 14 grandchildren; a daughter, Nancy Rongholt and husband Donald of Woodinville, their nine children and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wenatchee.

Allen Clem Robertson
Wenatchee
Allen Clem Robertson, 71, a 25-year Chelan County resident, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2002, following an extended illness.
He was born in Pomeroy on Feb. 26, 1930, to Samuel and Vernie (Clem) Robertson.
He graduated in 1949, from North Central High School in Spokane. He enlisted in the Army in May of 1951 and served his country until February of 1953, being stationed in Japan during the Korean War.
He married Phyllis M. Guffey of Chelan on Oct. 3, 1953. They resided in Spokane, later moving to Berkley, CA, where he earned a B.A. Degree in Business.
He was a former member of the Lyons and Elks clubs and a member of the A.I.B. Pilot Car Association from 1991 to 1997.
Allen loved the outdoors -- he hunted, fished and camped until he no longer could. Also an avid race fan, he loved to attend Wenatchee Valley Speedway to watch his brother-in-law and friends race.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Marie of the home; one son, Chuck Robertson of Cashmere; one daughter, Marsha Hamilton and husband Rick of Glacier; and two grandsons, Karl Nichols and Robin Foster, both of Glacier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Vernie and two sisters, Bonnie Robertson and Marian McKeirnan.
Memorials may be sent to Central Washington Home Care and Hospice, 903 Red Apple Road, Wenatchee, WA 98801.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Central Christian Church.

Lois B. Brady
Lois B. Brady, 87, of Tonasket, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at the North Valley Hospital in Tonasket.
She was born in Chelan and grew up in Entiat and the Yakima area. She moved to Seattle, where she worked as a switchboard operator at the Olympic Hotel, and for the Liquor Control Board. She and her husband had owned and operated a mattress factory and ran a second-hand store in Marysville. She moved to Tonasket in the late 1980s.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bergh Chapel in Oroville, Pastor Claude Roberts officiating. Interment
will follow at the Tonasket Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Bergh Funeral Service, Oroville.
Donald E. 'Don' Garvik
Donald E. "Don" Garvik, 80, of East Wenatchee, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002.
He had lived in East Wenatchee for five years and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 38 years.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Garvik of East Wenatchee; two daughters, Suzanne Parsley of Chelan and Janet Culp of East Wenatchee; and a brother, William Garvik of West Linn, Ore.
At the family's request, there will be no services.

Isaac Jack Sr.
Isaac Jack Sr., 82, of Nespelem, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Coulee Community Hospital.
He was born in Nespelem. He had worked on Grand Coulee Dam and other construction sites.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Jack of Nespelem and Isaac Jack Jr. of Fife; three daughters, Juliann Saulque and Francine Piatote of Nespelem, and Virginia Jack of Inchelium; and a sister, Martha Holliday of Olympia.
Funeral services were held Dec. 31, at the Nespelem Tribal Longhouse. Interment
followed at the Little Nespelem Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Strate Funeral Home, Grand Coulee.
Elmer E. McGinnis
Elmer E. McGinnis, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, in Yakima.
He was born in Armstrong Meadows near Nespelem. He worked as a game warden for the Colville Tribe and as a security guard for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation at Grand Coulee Dam.
Survivors include a son, Patrick Hoffman of Walla Walla; four daughters, Frances McGinnis Neal, Lila McGinnis and Elsie Womer, all of Keller, and Laura Clinkenbeard of La Grande, Ore.; and a sister, Leona Miller of Bremerton.
Graveside services were held Jan. 3 at the Nespelem Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Strate Funeral Home, Grand Coulee.
Adeline B. Menzia
Adeline B. Menzia, 77, of Ephrata, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Columbia Basin Hospital.
She had lived in Ephrata for 49 years.
Survivors include a son, Frederick Menzia of Mountlake Terrace; three daughters, Marian Pedersen of Kennewick, Nancy Smith of Yakima and Geralyn Fritchman of Orofino, Idaho; and a sister, Winifred Schuman of Hollywood, Fla.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited at noon Saturday at the church.

Donovan T. Mooney
Donovan T. Mooney, 86, of Wenatchee, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002.
He had lived in Wenatchee for 62 years and had been a sales manager for the Industrial Gas Co.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Mooney of Wenatchee; a son, Tom Mooney of Angwin, Calif.; and a daughter, Nancy Rongholt of Woodinville.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wenatchee. Visitation will be 1 to 6 p.m. today and Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Paul Naber
Paul Naber, 73, of Moses Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002.
He had lived in Moses Lake for 46 years and had been a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Naber; four sisters, Wilma Naber, Margaret Hanson, Violet Naber and Ruby Naber, all of Willmar, Minn.; and a brother, LeRoy Naber of Renton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chief Moses Middle School cafeteria.

Helen Tolbert
Helen Tolbert, 74, of Wenatchee, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002.
She was a lifelong resident of Wenatchee and had worked in restaurants.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Young and Rose Allen, both of East Wenatchee; and three sons, Ed Tolbert, Kenny Tolbert and Ernie Tolbert, all of Wenatchee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Jones and Jones Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Norman P. Trapp
Norman P. Trapp, 80, of Merritt, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Central Washington Hospital.
He had lived in the Merritt area for 43 years and had been a guide and packer for Trapps Pack Horses and Outfitters.
Survivors include a daughter, Chelan Rose Andrews of Leavenworth; a son, Norman Trapp of Walla Walla; and a stepsister, Lillian Anderson of Granite Falls.
Graveside services will be 11:45 a.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery in Leavenworth.

LaVerta M. Warren
LaVerta M. Warren, 81, of Wenatchee, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Central Washington Hospital.
She was born and grew up in Kansas. She moved to Entiat in 1977 and to Wenatchee two years ago.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Warren of Wenatchee; and a sister, LaVonna Elliott of Wenatchee.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wenatchee City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Stewart W. Bowie
Stewart W. Bowie, 76, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at his home.
He was born and grew up in Chelan. He moved to Southern California, where he lived until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Muffett Bowie of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; three sons, Steve Bowie of Laguna Beach, Calif., Peter Bowie of Newport Beach, Calif., and Kelly Bowie of La Mesa, Calif.; his stepchildren, Jill Martin and Cliff Martin, both of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif; a sister, Alice Ott of Manson; and a brother, Jim Bowie of Fresno, Calif.
His family will bring his ashes to Chelan for inurnment in the spring.
