Joyce Parker Devasier Collins
Karen Joyce (Parker) DeVasier-Collins, of Brighton, 65, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. She was a retired nurse, and until recently lived in the Reelfoot Lake-Washout area near Tiptonville.
Visitation was from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home in Covington.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Maley-Yarbrough Chapel, with the Rev. Andy Martin, pastor of Tiptonville First Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Doug Buchanan.
Burial was in Covington Memorial Gardens.
She was born Sept. 7, 1937, in Covington to the late Flora Jane Rice Parker and Booker Benton Parker.
She was a high school graduate, with a year of college.
She was married to Floyd F. Collins of Brighton, who survives.
She leaves her husband, Floyd F. Collins of Brighton; five daughters, Juanita Tinkle and Karen Perkins, both of Tiptonville, Connie Janes of Atoka, Letisha Greenhaw and Tabitha Warren, both of Covington; a brother, Don Parker, of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Marion Daker of Tiptonville, Ann Williams and Nancy Parker, both of Chicago, Ill., Seretha Laessig of Indiana, Annette Keske of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a husband, Floyd DeVasier Sr., a son, Floyd DeVasier Jr., a brother, Connie Parker.

Fred William Tippit Jr.
Fred Willlam Tippit Jr., 54, of Ridgely, died at his home Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003. He was a retired mechanic, and a locksmith.
Visitation was Friday evening at Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date following cremation.
He was born April 19, 1949, in Ridgely, to Juanita Spencer Tippit and Fred William Tippit.
He leaves his mother, Juanita Tippit Graham, formerly of Ridgely, now of Memphis; a son, Ryan Tippit of Ridgely; a daughter, Mendy Davis of Union City; two sisters, Freida Sexton of Olive Branch, Miss., and Lisa Jacobs of Nesbit, Miss., and a half-sister, Penny Tavares of Fayetteville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Makayla Davis and Charles Davis.

Mary Odessa Wright Ramsey
Mardy Odessa Wright Ramsey, 92, died at Wesley at Dyersburg Nursing Center Thursday, Aug. 8, 2003, after a long illness. She was a retired inspector at Henry I. Siegel plant in Tiptonville. She was the widow of Jeff Ramsey.
Visitation was Friday evening at Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dyersburg Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Cavitt, former pastor of Tiptonville First and Crockett Chapel United Methodist Churches, officiating.
Music included "In the Garden", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".
Grandsons and grandsons-in-law were pallbearers.
Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Dyer.
She was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Bradford, to the late Georgia Leona Penny Wright and Egbert Wright.
She married Jefferson "Jeff" Ramsey, who preceded her in death in 1982.
She was a member of Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church since 1934, a faithful active member until her health failed.
She leaves three daughters, Dorothy R. Fletcher of Tampa, Fla., Peggy R. Orr of Chicago, Ill., Sue C. Wilson of Mulberry, Ark.; five sons, Charles Robert Ramsey of Memphis, Billy Wright Ramsey of Atoka, James Wade Ramsey of Tiptonville, Larry Joe Ramsey of Las Vegas, Nev., and Richard Lynn Ramsey of Dyersburg; 20 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Harlen B. Ramsey and David Franklin Ramsey; three brothers, Tansel Wright, Leonard Wright and J.T. Wright; a sister, Katie Lou Kuhlman.
Memorials are suggested to Crockett Chapel Cemetery Fund.

James Ruth Lee
James Ruth Lee, 87, of Troy, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Ridgely Care and Rehab Center in Ridgely, where she had recently been transferred from Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. She was a former employee of Lear Siegler in Union City, and the Obion County Office on Aging in Union City. She was the widow of Sam Alvie "Cap" Lee.
Visitation was Sunday evening at Mt. Zion Church of Christ.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the church, with Barry O'Dell officiating.
Pallbearers were James Edward Naifeh Jr., Timothy Clark Naifeh, Christopher Kevin Naifeh, Charles Patterson Stevens, James Edward Stevens, Danny Goodlett and Jerry Grady.
Burial was in Antioch Cemetery in Hornbeak, with White-Ranson Funeral Home in charge.
She was born Jan. 7, 1916, in Weakley County, Tenn., to the late Mary Mittie Snider Bell and the late James White.
She married Sam Alvie "Cap" Lee in 1941. He preceded her in death July 4, 1969.
She attended Mt. Zion Church of Christ.
She was devoted to her family, an important part of the lives of her grandsons, and later great-grandchildren.
She leaves a daughter, Mary Gwen Naifeh, of Dyersburg; three grandsons, Dr. James Edward Naifeh of Dyersburg, Timothy Clark Naifeh of Tiptonville, and Christopher Kevin Naifeh of Ridgely; great-grandchildren, Timothy Clark Naifeh II, Nicholas Logan Naifeh, Riley Beth Naifeh, all of Tiptonville; Olivia Beth Naifeh and Laurel Christen Naifeh, both of Ridgely; James Edward Naifeh III, Collin Michael Naifeh and Mariana Alise Naifeh, all of Dyersburg.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Stevens, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Naifeh.

Dorothy Campbell Lewis
Dorothy Campbell Lewis, 83, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Ridgely, she had lived in Lake County, managed an apartment building in Memphis, and had returned after retirement. She had been at Ridgely Care and Rehabilitation since 2000.
Services will be at Tiptonville First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004. Visitation will precede the services.

Edward Samuel "Ed" Hume
Edward Samuel "Ed" Hume, Fullerton, Calif., 81, manufacturer, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003. He was the husband of Laura Snow Auston Hume from Lake County. He was a World War II veteran.
Funeral arrangements were unavailable to the Banner at press time.
He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Orleans, Mich., to the late Frances Peterson Humenny and Peter Humenny.
During World War II he served as a First Lieutenant in the First Army, 7th Armored Division, European Theater. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze and Silver Stars for heroic achievement and gallantry in action.
He married Laura Snow Auston Feb. 10, 1946, in Ridgely, and she survives.
He graduated in 1947 from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, and in 1947 with an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.
He owned and managed Champion Rubber Co., in Fullerton, a corporation manufacturing custom rubber products for commercial and military use.
He was a Methodist, and furnished adult leadership at the YMCA, for Indian Guides, and Scouting. He had served as a Fullerton City Planning Commissioner, and received PTA Honorary Service Awards for contributions to school and civic activities.
He and his wife are Lake County landowners, and were frequent visitors to Ridgely and the area.
Besides his wife, Laura Snow Auston Hume, he leaves a daughter, Dr. Mary Frances Hume Jolly; four sons, Dr. Edward S. Hume, Jr., Shelton Bradford Hume, Dr. Douglas Peter Hume, and William Snow Hume, and a number of grandchildren and other relatives.

Carrie Neal Hayes Hall
Carrie Neal Hayes Hall, 89, of Martin, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. The widow of Dallas Hall, she was the retired owner and operator of Joyland Daycare, and formerly of Tiptonville.
Visitation was at Murphy Funeral Home Friday evening, Dec. 26.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at East Side Cemetery in Martin, with Bro. Lindell Doty officiating.
Pallbearers were Mark Hall, Dan Hall, Dave Murphy, Darrell Watson, Chris Watson, and Jake Watson.
She was born May 10, 1914, in Hornbeak to the late Fannie Webb Hayes and William Edward Hayes.
She was a high school graduate.
She married Dallas Hall, and they lived a number of years in Tiptonville before moving to Martin.
She was a member of Martin Church of Christ.
She leaves a son, Webb Hall, of Martin, and wife, Ann; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Winnie Kirkland, of Martin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Hall; a son, Bill Hayes Hall; four brothers, Wilson Hayes, John Webb Hayes, Lindsay Hayes and Edward Hayes.

Terry Lynn Glisson
Terry Lynn Glisson, 34, Finley, died Dec. 28, 2003, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. He was an employee of Fowlkes Concrete.
Visitation was Tuesday night at Tiptonville First Baptist Church.
Services are at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the church, with the Rev. Ronnie Turner, and the Rev. Andy Martin, pastor of the Tiptonville First Baptist Church, officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Brooks, Clyde Staggs, Everett Bickers, Billy Hopper, Randy Shelton, Tim Choate, Scotty Johnson and Wade White.
Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery near Ridgely, with Johnson Funeral Home of Newbern in charge.
He was born Jan. 4, 1969, in Lake County to Joann (Boyd) Glisson and the late Finis "Hoghead" Glisson.
He married Jackie Salmon of Tiptonville, who survives.
He was an organ donor.
He leaves his wife, Jackie Salmon Glisson, of Finley; his mother, JoAnn Glisson of Newbern; a daughter, Anna Claire Glisson, of Finley; a sister, Carol Millner, of Newbern; his grandparents, Eathell and Carol Boyd of Newbern.
Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Rebecca Sue (Cochran) Pinion
Rebecca Sue (Cochran) Pinion, 71, Union City, mother of State Representative Phillip Pinion, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. She was a real estate agent with Fuller Partners Real Estate.
Visitation was Sunday evening at White-Ranson Funeral Home in Union City.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Bobby Williams officiating.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Burial was in EastView Cemetery in Union City.
She was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Obion County to the late Mary Ellen Bumpious Cochran and Felix Lester Cochran.
She married David Gene Pinion on June 2, 1951, and he survives.
She was a member of Reelfoot Realtors Association, Tennessee Realtors Associatioon, and attended Troy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was church pianist.
She leaves her husband, David Gene Pinion of Union City; two daughters, Susie Muse and husband, Mike, and Patsy Bailey and husband, Don, all of Union City; two sons, Phillip Pinion and wife, Linda, and Steve Pinion and wife, Regina, all of Union City; five sisters, Jeanette Thurmond of Union City, Lois Sullivan of Troy, Grace Arnn of Sikeston, Mo., Joela Parrott of South Fulton and Ouida Osborne of Murray, Ky.; five brothers, Claude Cochran of Lewisville, Ohio, Marion Cochran of Jackson, Wayne Cochran of Troy, David Cochran and Larry Cochran, both of Union City; eight grandchildren, Chris Bailey, Wendy Bailey, Chip Pinion, Carrie Pinion, Joey Pinion, Scott Muse, and Jesse Muse, all of Union City, Chad Pinion of Troy; a great-grandchild, Thomas Muse of Union City.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Graden Cochran, Gwinn Cochran, Ellis Cochran, and two sisters, Geniece Ragsdale and Grear Owens.
