Robert Cortouz "Bud" Bishop
Robert Cortouz "Bud" Bishop, 26, of Ridgely, died Sunday, April 2, 2003, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Ridgely Chapel Baptist Church Education Building, with the Rev. Jackie Johnson officiating, and the Rev. Thomas Sanders, pastor. Bro. Larry Wilson led the processional. Solos were sung by Sister Bonnie Ross, Johnny Higgins, Pastor Bobby Lee, and Bro. Wilson. The eulogy was given by the Rev. Johnson, with remarks by Elder Stanley Montgomery and Pastor Sanders.
Pallbearers were Shondell Hill, Frankie Mays, Corey Biggs, Travis Bradshaw, Kevin Spencer, Johnny Hill, David McCrite and Byron Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Ridgely Baptist Church.
Burial was in Citizens Cemetery at Tiptonville, with Hudson Funeral Home of Dyersburg in charge.
He was born Aug. 18, 1976, in Dyersburg to Mary Easley and Oscar Bishop.
He grew up and spent his life in Lake County, attending Lake County schools. He united with the Ridgely Chapel Baptist Church under the Rev. Clyde Tipton at an early age.
He leaves his parents, Ms. Mary Easley and Oscar Bishop of Ridgely; two sons, Jamal K. Bishop and Javion R. Bishop, both of Tiptonville; four daughters, Jasmine T. Bishop, Janisha T. Bishop, Jada L. Bishop and Jamecia N. Kimble, all of Tiptonville; grandparents, Nancy Avery of Ridgely and Mary Bishop of Union City; nine brothers, Julius Bishop, Frederick Bishop, Oscar Lemont Bishop, Gary Bishop and James Bishop, all of St. Cloud, Minn., Gregory Bishop and James Bishop, both of Ridgely, Gerald Bishop of Chicago, Ill., and Bobby Bishop of Indianapolis, Ind.; six sisters, Genevalyn Ceaser and husband, Charles, of Dyersburg, Tunda Emerson and husband, Lawrence, and Trina Mason, both of Clinton, Ky., Angela Bishop of Union City, Mashanda Bishop of Dyersburg and Phoebe Bishop of Ridgely.
Doris Ann Hart
Doris Ann Hart, 58, of Tiptonville, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at her home.
Services were at St. John #2 Missionary Baptist Church at Tiptonville at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, with the pastor, the Rev. Perry Woods, officiating. Scripture was given by Minister George Bonds, prayer by Minister Daryll McElrath, acknowledgments by Sister Daisy Parks, and the eulogy, “The Blessed Hope” by Elder Stan Montgomery of Emmanuel C.O.G.I.C. Among the choir selections was “Pass Me Not”, and solos were “Your Anchor Holds”, Sister Delois Davis, “I’m Going Home”, Jerry Jones, and “I Don’t Know About Tomorrow”, Rev. Darryl McElrath.
Pallbearers were Julius Holder, Will Jones, Bobby Hart, Larry Jones, Tony Kimble, Cedrick Jones, Joe Michael and Alfred Lee Jones.
Burial was in Citizens Cemetery, with Cosmopolitan Funeral Services of Dyersburg in charge.
She was born March 21, 1947, in Jackson, Tenn., to the late Louise and Lawrence Hart.
She leaves two sons, Jimmy Hart and wife, Stacy, of Ridgely, and Robert David Hart of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Wanda Denise Hart of Tiptonville; three sisters, Rosie Lee Hart and Ellis, and Shirley Hart, all of Paducah, Ky., Debra Ann Hart of Tiptonville; four brothers, Bobby Joe Hart and wife, Twyla, David Lawrence Hart, Robert Lee Hart and James Lee Hart, all of Tiptonville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Marie Hart; a son, Thomas Edward Hart; two sisters, Betty Louise Hart and Billie Jean Hart; two aunts, Emma Lee Jones and Minnie Bell Johnson.
Esther Rozelle Vaughn Buchanan
Esther Rozelle Vaughn Buchanan, 79, of Union City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at her residence. She was the widow of James Buchanan, and a retired cafeteria manager for the Obion County School System.
Visitation was Monday evening at White-Ranson Funeral Home of Union City.
Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at White-Ranson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Eddie Mallonee officiating. Music included Barry Keathley singing, “It Is Well With My Soul” and “Amazing Grace”.
Pallbearers were family members.
Burial was in Obion County Memorial Gardens of Union City.
She was born April 12, 1925, in Lake County, Tenn., to the late Jesse Simmons Vaughn and Herman Gray Vaughn.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Union City.
She leaves three sons, Jerry Gray Buchanan and wife, Wanda, of Union City, James Richard Buchanan and wife, Jeannie, of Tiptonville, Martin Lynn Buchanan and wife, Ramona, of Malden, Mo.; a brother, Herman Earl Vaughn of Gleason; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Buddy” Buchanan, three brothers, and a sister.
Dorothy Nell Hillsman Leeper
Dorothy Nell Hillsman Leeper, 85, of Madie-Keefe Road, Ridgely, died Sunday morning, Jan. 23, 2005, at her residence. She had just recently been released from Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, where she spent three days. She was the widow of George Howe Leeper, and a retired medical stenographer.
Visitation was Monday night at Ridgely Chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Services were at the chapel at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, with the Rev. Tom Pirtle, the Rev. Noel Edwards, and Rev. Houston Northcutt, and the Rev. Frank Bowling officiating. Music was provided by former Lake County music teacher and special friend, Tommy Rowell, of Mobile, Ala.
Pallbearers were Mack Forrester, Aaron Staulcup, Fred Wortman, Jr., Tony Bargery, John Schroeppel and Steve Parks.
Honorary pallbearers were Tony Leake, George Moseley, Melvin Bargery, Hubert Jones, James Watkins, and William Bargery.
Burial was in New Haven Cemetery of Ridgely.
She was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Lake County, Tenn., to the late Frances Naomi Jones Hillsman and John Albert Hillsman.
She attended Ridgely Schools, but completed her high school and two years of college at Blue Mountain College, Blue Mountain, Miss. She married George Howe Leeper of Ridgely, a Vanderbilt engineering graduate, on July 8, 1938. They made their home in Memphis. He preceded her in death in 1969.
She was stricken with polio in 1949, and her son, John, was born while she was in an iron lung. Despite her handicaps, she became a medical stenographer for doctors. In Memphis, she was active in mission work for young women. Her knowledge of the Bible was surpassed by few. After her husband’s death, she returned to Ridgely to live on the family farm, in the home built by her father. She was active in Ridgely First Baptist Church, the Dorcas Sunday School class, and the Ladies’ Prayer Circle, which recently sometimes met in her home.
She was an excellent cook, and shared her dishes with friends for many years. She especially loved serving guests at her home. She was valiant in self-reliance, living alone, until her son returned to live with her several years ago.
She leaves a son, John H. Leeper, of Ridgely; a sister-in-law, Frances Shepard; two grandchildren, Rene Leeper and Rachele Leeper, both of Sevierville.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Leeper Moseley.
Betty Lee Alderman Hansel
Betty Lee Alderman Hansel, 82, of Memphis, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was a retired teacher and a Lake County landowner.
Memorial services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Burial was in Memorial Park.
She was born in Deland, Fla., May 7, 1922, to the late Bessie Lee Harris Alderman and Morgan Alderman.
She was reared in Ridgely. She attended Gulfpark College in Gulfport, Miss., and Southwestern College (now Rhodes) in Memphis.
She lived in Pass Christian, Miss., before moving to Memphis in 1951. She taught at Idlewild and Buntyn Presbyterian Churches, and was preschool education consultant for Memphis Presbytery before retirement after 35 years.
She leaves a daughter, Elizabeth Domingue of Beavercreek, Ohio, and a son, John Domingue of Englewood, Colo.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first son, Chris Domingue.

Mildred Eva Fetzer Blakley
Mildred Eva Fetzer Blakley, 75, of Samburg, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in Samburg. She was employed at Healthcare Facility.
Visitation was Tuesday evening at Samburg Pentecostal Church.
Services will be at the church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, with the Rev. Marvin Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by The Stepps.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Blakley, Earl Bramlett, Richard Coynal, Clyde Blakley, Jeff Boylan and Bobby Rainey.
Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery of Hornbeak, with White-Ranson Funeral Home of Union City in charge.
She was born Sept. 15, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Ada and Joseph Fetzer.
She married Jack Blakley in 1988, and he preceded her in death.
She was a housekeeping worker at Healthcare, and a member of Lakeland Baptist Church of Ridgely.
She leaves two daughters, Rosie Whetsell and Lisa Cliff, both of St. Louis, Mo.; five sons, Steve Weeks, Jerry Weeks, and David Biggs, all of St. Louis, Mo.; Danny Weeks and Butch Wallace, both of Samburg; a sister, Grace Lindsey of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Dan Fetzer and Bob Fetzer, both of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Pitts, six sisters and a brother.
Robert Kirkland Cherry
Robert Kirkland Cherry, 71, of Union City, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. He was a department manager for Wal-Mart, and leader in First United Methodist Church activities.
Visitation was Tuesday evening.
Services are at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Drew Henry and the Rev. John Archer officiating.
Music will include “Here Am I Lord,” “America the Beautiful”, “Surely the Presence” and “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”.
Pallbearers will be Jere Baldridge, Bobby Young, Hugh Wade, Hal Rice, Sonny Frankum, Bill Owens, Jimmy Counce, Skipper White, Jim Harris, Stoney Warren, Dick Strub, Glen Fuller and David Townes.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Character Builders Sunday School Class and the church choir.
Burial will be in East View Cemetery in Union City with White-Ranson Funeral Home in charge.
He was born March 11, 1933, in Obion County, Tenn., to the late Mary Edna Barnes Cherry and Malcolm Robert Cherry.
He was a graduate of Union City High School.
He married Pat Ransom Dec. 27, 1955, and she survives.
A member of First United Methodist Church of Union City, he was a member of the choir and Character Builders Sunday School Class, and was a Team Leader. He was active in Hometown Walk of Hope.
He leaves his wife, Pat Ransom Cherry, of Union City; a daughter, Leslie Prather, and husband, David, of Samburg; a son, Robert Cherry, and wife, Debbie, of Ripley; a sister, Patsy Roney of Union City; a brother, Bill Cherry of Union City; three grandchildren, Emily Taylor Thomas of Samburg, Virginia Anne Cherry and Robert Arden Cherry, both of Ripley; a stepmother, Helen Cherry of Union City; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Neil.
Memorials are suggested to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or First United Methodist Church of Union City.
