Laura Poston Smith, age 95, of Chesterfield, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996.
Survivors include one son, Jim Smith; five daughters: Jean Shrope, Mel Kessen, Mavis McAffry, Donna Estes, and Yvonne Palmer; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel in Richmond with interment
in Sunset Memorial Park.

Poston
John Henry Poston, age 72, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 at his home in Glade Spring.
He was a member of the Plasterco United Methodist Church and a retired employee of the U.S. Gypsum Co.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine D. Poston; one son, John Timothy "Tim" Poston, Abingdon; three brothers, Melvin Poston, Arkansas, Ervin Poston, Chesapeake, and Billy Poston, Bristol, Tenn.; two sisters Mrs. Warren (Irene) Eastridge, Saltville, and Mrs. Alton (Betty) Hutton, Marion; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Mount Rose Cemetery with the Rev. James Robbins officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Plasterco United Methodist Church.

Shirley McVey Poston, age 56, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996 at her home in Chilhowie. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one son, Howard Kenneth Poston, Chilhowie; two daughters, Deborah Cox, Galax, and Jeanna Poston, Bristol, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jason and Heidi Ring and Kelly Poston.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm. Monday, Dec. 9, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Frank Branson officiating. Interment
followed in the Middlefork Cemetery.

Armbrister
Harold Francis Armbrister, age 68, of Draper, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996 at his home. He was born in Max Meadows on Sept. 17, 1928, the son of the late Robert Wiley Armbrister and Hattie Fisher Armbrister. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Baker Armbrister, and a son, Geoffrey Armbrister.
He was a member and deacon of the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Bluefield College, a member of the Pulaski Rotary Club, the Draper Ruritan Club, and was a retired manager of the United Cities Gas Co., Pulaski.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Connie Armbrister, Marion; two grandchildren, Harold Scott Armbrister and Eric Lynn Armbrister, both of Marion; three sisters, Eva Worrell, Fort Chiswell, Lillian Corvin, Wytheville, and Elizabeth Hurt, Anderson, Ind.; one brother, Paul F. Armbrister, Claytor Lake; three sisters-in-law, Frances B. Dent and Mrs. Russ Crockett, both of Wytheville, and Mrs. William Hannan, Tucson, Ariz.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. in Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Preston O. Sartelle Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 17, at Stevens Funeral Home from 2 to 6 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service Monday, Nov. 18, in the fellowship hall of the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church. Clark
George B. Clark Jr., age 77, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Clark was a native of Smyth County. He was a member of the Walker's Creek Presbyterian Chapel and had retired from Harwood with more than 30 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife, Nannie Elizabeth Colley Clark, Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Sherman Ray and Linda Clark, Dublin; one daughter, Carolyn Ramsey, Marion; two sons-in-law, Bob Ramsey and Everette Powell; three sisters, Virginia Richardson, Rustburg, Ida Evans, Princeton, W.Va., and Maude Luhn, Mt. Airy, Md.; five grandchildren: Tammy Alls, Sandra Dunford, Michelle Powell, Keith Powell, and Robert Ramsey Jr.; five great-grandchildren: Mellissa and Andrew Anderson, Michael and Andrea Dunford, and Rachel Ramsey; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Weston Guthrie and the Rev. Bryan Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Eblen
Sarah Ann Eblen, age 74, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion and was a graduate of Emory & Henry College.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. S.N. and Mae Garst Eblen.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruby E. Hollingsworth of Cambridge, Minn., and Joyce E. Cornett of Marion; one brother, J. Paul Eblen of Lynchburg; one sister-in-law, Thelma B. Eblen of Salem; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Marion with Dr. J.N. Howard officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Marion, 115 S. Church St., Marion, VA 24354.

James
Frank D. James, age 80, of Grant, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
He was born April 8, 1916 at Flatridge, the son of David and Virginia Missouri Slemp James. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a self-employed farmer and carpenter.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Barker James of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Rebecca James, Troutdale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Hazel and Thurman Farmer, Troutdale, and Louise and Steve Jones, Independence; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Harry Delp, Elk Creek, Minnie Cornett, Marion, and Lizzie and Monroe Nelson, Galax; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Tim Boyette, the Rev. Scott Flippin and the Rev. Rex Hall officiating. Interment

Nora S. Taylor, age 91, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
She was the widow of Wilda Taylor and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Chilhowie.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne C. Taylor, Baltimore, Md., and Earl Taylor, Saltville; two daughters, Flossie Gerasco, Clarksburg, W.Va., and Flora Cathleen Smith, Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Ed Stiddoms and Lee Stiddoms, both of Jefferson, N.C.; one sister, Fannie Bowman, Winston-Salem, N.C.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Alice Frances Taylor "Shug" Arnold, age 86, of Glade Spring, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of James S. "Fodder-Shock" Arnold, and was also preceded in death by a son, Garland "Pig" Arnold.
She was a native of Saltville and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include two sons, James S. Arnold, Bristol, and Ernest W. "Lefty" Arnold, Bristol, Tenn.; four daughters, Mildred A. Campbell, Saltville, Patsy A. Bise, Nancy A. Clark and Judy A. Holmes, all of Glade Spring; one sister, Audrey Montgomery, Saltville; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. David Mumpower officiating.

Authenreith
Harold E. "Buddy" Authenreith, age 76, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Authenreith was a graduate of the Marion Junior College and was employed by the Smyth County Community Hospital in the housekeeping department for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked at the old Lincoln Theater for several years. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
Mr. Authenreith was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Howard Authenreith and one brother, Lonnie Authenreith.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Barnett's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lovelight Tree, c/o Smyth County Community Hospital.

Charles William "Bill" Barker, age 63, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996 in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Barker graduated from Independence High School, served with the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1956 and retired from Brunswick Corp. with 37 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Iva Farmer Barker; one daughter, Debbi Y. BeVille, Charlottesville; one son, Rick Barker, Fairfax; two sisters, Mary James, Grant, and Alma Joines, Sparta, N.C.; four half-sisters, Bobbie Jean Taylor, Arlington, Arvinia Hart and Lettie Mae Dean, both of Thomasville, N.C., and Betty Tibbs, Rural Retreat;; four brothers, Garnett Barker, Elkton, Md., Herbert Barker, Troutdale, Ray Barker and Robert Barker, both of Marion; one half-brother, Dexter Barker, Bland; two grandchildren, Alex and Adam BeVille.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Rex Hall officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery where full military services were conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post No. 4667.

Burnop
Fred Eugene Burnop, age 72, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996 at the Mountain Home VA Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
He was a native of Atkins and was the son of the late Henry Richard and Mary Caudle Burnop. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force.
Surviving are one son, the Rev. David Burnop of Plumtree, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Harris of Marion, and Elva Greer of Rock Falls, Ill.; two brothers, Carl Burnop and Lee Burnop, both of Marion; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Greene officiating. Interment

Charles William Cregger Jr., age two months, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996 in Marion.
He is survived by his father and mother, Charles and Darcy Cregger of Ceres; one sister, Reva Cregger of Ceres; his maternal grandparents, Chet and Kathleen Nicholson of Marion; his paternal grandparents, James and Carol Cregger of Ceres; his great-grandparents, William and Reva Barlett of California, Claudine Sechman of Utah, and Bill Nicholson of New Mexico; five aunts, Lisa Cregger and Caela Cregger, both of Marion, Missy Armstrong of Saltville, Erin Christesen of Atlanta, Ga., and Danielle Nicholson of Washington State; four uncles, Joe Cregger and Bucky Cregger, both of Marion, Robert Armstrong of Saltville, and Cary Christesen of Alaska.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marion with President Howard Burton and Mr. Kenny Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Community Cemetery in Nebo. The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.

Hatfield
Laura Margaret "Peg" Horne Hatfield died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 in Hillside Manor, Kingsport, Tenn.
She had lived in Saltville for 54 years before moving to Kingsport four years ago. She was a native of Glade Spring and was the widow of Dr. C.C. Hatfield. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dr. A.F. Horne and Laura Lincoln Horne; four brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Hatfield graduated from Marion College and attended Martha Washington College in Abingdon. She later studied music at the Chicago Musical College and Washington University, St. Louis.
She taught Sunday School and was pianist and organist at the Saltville and Riverview Presbyterian churches for over 50 years. She was a life member of the Presbyterian Women of the church.
She taught piano for more than 60 years and was a life member and past president of the Four Season Garden Club. She was active with the Rich Valley Fair, the Cancer Society and many other civic organizations.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Melinda Hatfield, Kingsport, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Susan Elizabeth Hatfield, Kingsport, Tenn.; one grandson, James Andrew Hatfield Jr., Kingsport, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 20, in Riverview Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Wiley Neal officiating. Burial will be in the Osborne family cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Riverview Presbyterian Church or the Saltville Rescue Squad.
