Hutton
Mary E. Hutton, age 77, of Marion, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Hutton was a lifelong resident of Marion. She worked at Harwood for several years and had retired from the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center in Marion. She was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a son, Richard Allen Hutton.
Survivors include her husband, George S. Hutton; two sons, Roger Hutton and Sherman Eugene Hutton, both of Marion; one sister, Margaret Davidson, Marion; one brother, Oscar Sherill Foster, Roanoke; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Arthur officiating. Interment followed in the Wassum Cemetery.
Barnett's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Keyes
Gerald B. Keyes, age 59, of Sugar Grove, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 in Grayson County.
Mr. Keyes served with the Sugar Grove Fire Department for 20 years and was employed at the Marion Telephone Company for 36 years.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna West Keyes of Sugar Grove; one son and daughter-in-law, Pam and Gary Shirey of Sugar Grove; one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Dawn Keyes of Sugar Grove; four grandsons, Joe Shirey, Jason Shirey, Lee Shirey, and Jonathan Keyes, all of Sugar Grove; one granddaughter, Kayla Keyes of Sugar Grove; his mother, Ethel Keyes of Sugar Grove; three brothers, Sonny Keyes, Larry Keyes, and Danny Keyes, all of Sugar Grove; one sister, Sue Parks of Sugar Grove; one special sister-in-law, Debbie Alexander of Marion; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; two godchildren, Sarah and Whitney Woods.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price and the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Fire Department, c/o Jesse Choate, P.O. Box 108, Sugar Grove, VA 24375. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Funeral Chapel.

Little
Gerdi Heidi Little, age 53, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, Jan Little of Boston, Mass., and Chris Little of El Paso, Texas.
Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 at 2 p.m. in Round Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Schoeneman
Eleanore Smart Schoeneman, age 85, widow of Albert Schoeneman, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996 in the George B. Kegley Manor Nursing Home, Bastian.
She was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Eleanore Hupfer Smart.
Mrs. Schoeneman was a graduate of the New York University in New York City. She wrote "Around Town News" for the Gainesville Sun, Palatka Daily News and the Lake Area Monitor for 15 years. She was a member of the Melrose Women's Club, Melrose Library Board, Melrose Action Committee, Melrose Chapter AARP and served on the Melrose Arts & Crafts Festival Committee.
She was a member of the Melrose United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Melrose United Methodist Women having served as president and currently was a member of the Red Oak United Methodist Women and the Bland County Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one daughter, Gail Strickland of Micanopy, Fla.; one son, Rev. William (Bill) Schoeneman, Ceres; four grandchildren: Dorothy Svoboda of Orlando, Fla.; Stephen Svoboda of Jacksonville, Fla.; James Schoeneman of Warner Robins, Ga.; and Andrew Schoeneman of Ceres; three great-grandchildren; a special friend, Jane Jenkins of Manhasset, New York.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Melrose United Methodist Church in Melrose, Fla., with the Rev. Janie Nell Hickman and the Rev. Al Vaught officiating. Burial will follow in Eliam Cemetery in Melrose, Fla. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Holston United Methodist Home for Children, P.O. Box 188, Greeneville, Tenn. 37744 or to the Melrose United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 576, Melrose, Fla. 32666.

Suits
Girtha Gertrude Tuggle Suits, age 59, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a member of the Freedom Tabernacle Church in Atkins.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Suits, Marion; one son, John Henry Wyatt Jr.; three daughters, Carolyn Roberts, Margann Bridgman and Bessie Hensley, all of Marion; three brothers, Nelson Lee Tuggle, Marion, Edward Tuggle, Saltville, and James Tuggle, Marion; four sisters, Sally Snead, Greeneville, Tenn., Virginia Harris, Rebecca Harris and Katherine Johnson, all of Saltville; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kyle French and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Thomas
Dora Thomas, age 58, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was a native of Washington County.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Chapman and Catherine Widener, both of Glade Spring; one brother, Tommy Widener, Chilhowie; one sister, Mabel Dempsey; five grandchildren: Johnny Widener, April Widener, Charlie Widener, Jonathan Chapman and Allen Chapman; one great-grandchild, Tommy Warner.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with the Rev. Mahlon Wyatt officiating.
Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.

Atkins
William E. "Epp" Atkins, age 86, of Meadowview, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and was a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth "Polly" Atkins; one son, Johnny Wayne Atkins of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Vivian) Freeman, Marion, Mrs. Robert (Bea) Rosenbaum, Mrs. Scott (Peggy) Whitehead, both of Abingdon, and Mrs. Chris (Joyce) Hayden, Glade Spring; two brothers, Ake Atkins, Abingdon, and John L. Atkins, Marion; two sisters, Pearl Shortt and Hannah Orfield, both of Abingdon; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Troy Allen and Billy Jones officiating. Burial was in Green Spring Presbyterian Cemetery.

Dyson
Clint E. "Eddie" Dyson Jr., age 58, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996 at the home of his mother in Marion.
Mr. Dyson was of the Protestant faith, and was a veteran, having served with the United States Army as Staff Sergeant. He had served as the resident golf pro for several golf courses including the Holston Hills Country Club in Marion and had an avid love for golf. He was a graduate of Lees-McRae College.
He is survived by his mother, Edith Wells Dyson of Marion; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Frances and Al Ferguson, and Debbie Dyson, all of Marion, Faye and Oval Chapman of Uniontown, Ohio, and Peggy Stuttaford of Oakland, Calif.; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Betty Dyson of Marion; several nieces, nephews, and three great-nieces.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 22, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Arnold and Dr. William A. Slater officiating. Graveside services will be held today, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. at the New Providence Cemetery in Loudon County, Tenn. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Debbie Rogers, 576 Fowler St., Marion, VA 24354.

Elledge
Verna Allen Elledge, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996 in Richmond.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and J.B. Hobbs; one son and daughter-in-law, Rudolph and Ruth Elledge; three grandchildren: Susan Simmers, Carolyn Fischer, and Barbara Anne Elledge; two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond. The family will receive friends tonight, Nov. 23, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Home, Chippenham Chapel, Hull St. Rd., Richmond.

Floyd
Rev. John Eugene James Grant Floyd Sr., age 89, of Mt. Holly, N.C., died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
Rev. Floyd was born in Caldwell County, N.C., the son of the late John and Eva Barber Floyd. He was the husband of the late Rose Fisher Floyd and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Floyd.
He was a retired Freewill Baptist Minister having pastored at Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church in Marion, First Freewill Baptist Church in Marion, N.C., Sea Level Freewill Baptist Church in Sea Level, N.C., Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Jacksonville, N.C., and Wilmington Freewill Baptist Church, Wilmington, N.C. At the time of his death, he was a member of The Goshen Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Holly, N.C.
Surviving are five sons: Rev. Johnnie Floyd Jr. of Erwin, Tenn., Donald R. Floyd of Mt. Holly, N.C., Roger B. Floyd of Marion, N.C., C. Ray Floyd and Mike Floyd, both of Charlotte, N.C.; four daughters: Audrey E. Dyer of Mt. Holly, N.C., Evelyn L. Wood of Marion, N.C., Betty R. Scott of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Diane Padgett of Jacksonville, N.C.; one half brother, Rev. Roy Rikard of Cramerton, N.C.; 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at The Goshen Freewill Baptist Church in Mt. Holly with the Rev. Harold Blankenship, Rev. Rudolph Outlaw and Rev. Harold O'Dear officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Holly. The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 9 p.m. at Carothers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Goshen Freewill Baptist Church, Family Life Center, 1300 W. Catawba Ava., Ext., Mt. Holly, N.C. 28120.

Gregory
David Roscoe Gregory, age 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1996 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Survivors include his wife, Lottie M. Cardwell Gregory; one son, David Roscoe Gregory Jr., Glade Spring; four daughters: Wanda Kay Gregory Clark and Francis E. Doane, both of Saltville, Marcella Gregory Tignor, Bristol, and Karen M. Crusenberry, Chilhowie; two brothers, Tuck Gregory, Bristol, and Bill Gregory, Abingdon; two sisters, Mrs. James M. Surber, North Carolina, and Althy McNeil, Glade Spring; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Neace officiating. Burial was in the Mount Rose Cemetery.

Mabe
Graham E. "Bee" Mabe, age 68, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1996.
He was a native of Smyth County and lived in Ohio since 1950. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and was retired from General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Surber Mabe; one son, Roger Mabe, Mansfield, Ohio; one daughter, Connie Finnegan, Mansfield, Ohio; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earn Mabe, Saltville, and Ben Mabe, Mansfield, Ohio; two sisters, Mildred Price, Mansfield, Ohio, and Jane Clear, Saltville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today, Nov. 23, in Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Mansfield, Ohio, with the Rev. Brian Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Springmill Cemetery.

Neff
Gladys E. Neff, age 93, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996 in Valley Health Care Center.
Mrs. Neff was a native of Washington County but had lived most of her life in Smyth County. She was retired from the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion as a supervisor over the aids with 42 years of service. She was also a member of the Sister's of Rebecca.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Nov. 23, at Barnett's Funeral Home.

Sexton
Denver Moody "Demp" Sexton, age 60, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Sexton was a native of West Virginia and had lived most of his life in the Currin Valley Community of Marion. He delivered the Roanoke Times for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Louise Sexton, Marion; one daughter, Trina Michelle Quillen, Marion; two sons, Denver Edward Sexton and Nacy Dane Sexton, both of Marion; three sisters, Stella Crowe, Wadsworth, Ohio, Betty Louthen, Marion, and Frances Lifon, Newport; two brothers, Kenneth Sexton, Marion, and James Sexton, Owossi, Mich.; one half sister, Edna Seymour; one granddaughter, Kami Marie Quillen.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery.
