Waller
Mabel Delp Waller, age 69, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2000, in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Delp; her second husband, William Jack Waller; her parents, Millard and Vinia Bonham. Also one brother, Lawrence Bonham and one sister, Eva Spencer.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gregory Jackson Waller of the home, Billy and Gloria Delp of Marion, Joe and Teresa Delp of Bristol, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Buddy Shepherd of Troutdale; three brothers, Grover Bonham of Sugar Grove, Ralph Bonham of Sugar Grove, and Bob Bonham of Bel Air, Md.; six sisters, Margie Cox of New Castle, Del., Lucille Testerman of New Castle, Del., Martha Robinson of Sugar Grove, Genelle Blevins of Bristol, Sharon Reedy of Volney and Wanda Sumner of Baywood; one special brother-in-law, Boyd Spencer; a very special second family, the Waller family; four granddaughters, three grandsons, three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Waller will be held (today) Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Marion Pentecostal Church with Rev. Donald Mutter, Rev. Roger Crigger and Rev. Bobby Dunford officiating. Burial will follow in West End Cemetery in Wytheville.
Barnett’s Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements.

Allen
Mary "Sis" Walker Allen, age 79, of Seven Mile Ford, died Monday, May 29, 2000 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Allen was a daughter of the late Daniel R. and Rufus Anna White Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Wesley Allen, and by five brothers, William R. Walker, R.L. Walker, J.S. Walker, U.S. Walker, and Lindsey "Happy" Walker.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Ann Hoffer of Marion; one granddaughter, Rhea H. Peavler of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one grandson, Billy W. Hoffer of Hughesville, Md.; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen C. Walker and Margaret W. Walker, both of Chilhowie.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 30, at 8 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles E. Blevins and the Rev. Robert S. Thornton officiating. Entombment will be held today, May 31, at 10 a.m. in Mount Rose Mausoleum in Glade Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church, c/o Mrs. Frances Shorey, 237 Shawnee Trail, Chilhowie, VA 24319 or to the Chilhowie Rescue Squad.

Forrester
Dennis B. "Bill" Forrester, age 78, of Glade Spring, died Monday, May 29, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Forrester had lived most of his life in Washington County, was a farmer and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Wayne Forrester.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth Dyson Forrester; two daughters, Dot Creasy of Meadowview, and Connie Blevins of Glade Spring; four sons, Dennis B. Forrester Jr., Abingdon, Jack Forrester of Bristol, Tenn., Roger Forrester of Wytheville, and Steve Forrester of Glade Spring; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a long time special friend, James Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted today, May 31, at 3 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Blevins and the Rev. Roger Boyer officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Carson Anderson, 880 St. Clair’s Creek Road, Chilhowie, VA 24319.

Griffitts
The Rev. Dr. Joseph P. Griffitts age 71, died May 5, 2000 in California.
Dr. Griffitts was born March 1, 1929, in Marion, the son of Basil and Ruth Griffitts. He grew up in the boarding house his parents ran. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy where he was a bombardier on a PBY. Upon leaving the service, Dr. Griffitts attended Emory & Henry College where he was a member of the school’s tennis team and spent summers as a lifeguard at Hungry Mother Park.
In 1959, Dr. Griffitts entered Union Theological Seminary. After graduation, he took an Associate minister’s position at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church in Roanoke under Rev. Jim Allision. After spending two years apprenticeship, he led his own congregation at Oakdale Presbyterian Church in Norfolk for 11 years.
In 1983, Dr. Griffitts earned his doctorate in Theology, completing the highest level of education in his field.
Surviving are his wife, Edna E. Griffitts of California, formerly of Chilhowie; two daughters, Roseanna J. Paolini, California, and Ann Fulcher, Richmond; one son, William Griffitts, Maryland; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 3, at 1:30 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. William Wing officiating.

Snider
Mary Snavely Snider, age 88, died Friday, May 26, 2000 at her home in Seven Mile Ford.
Mrs. Snider was the widow of Ernest Venable Snider and a member of Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Snider.
Surviving are one son, Charles E. Snider, Orange Park, Fla.; four grandchildren, James Snider, Dalton, Ga., Kenny Snider, Regina Snider and Michael Snider, all of South Carolina; three great-grandchildren; one nephew, Alfred Minton, Bristol, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 30, at 1 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church.

Taylor
Joseph Edward Taylor, age 48, of Saltville, died Sunday, May 28, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Taylor was an employee of the Ball Corp. in Bristol, and a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth G. "Deanie" Taylor; two daughters, Nina Jean Taylor, and Brenda Gail Tuggle, both of Saltville; two sisters, Naomi T. Collins of Marion, and Mary Taylor of Tannersville; two brothers, Arthur George Taylor and James C. Taylor, both of Tannersville; two grandchildren, Rebecca Lee Tuggle and Eric Wayne Barbrow; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 30, at 8 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Surber officiating. Graveside services will be held today, May 31, at 11 a.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring.

Troxell
William "Bill" F. Troxell Jr., age 63, of Gastonia, N.C., died Monday, May 29, 2000 in Rehabilitation & Health Center of Gastonia.
Mr. Troxell was born Sept. 1, 1936 in Smyth County. He was an employee of Lowe’s Home Improvement in Gastonia, N.C., and was former owner of Singer Sewing Center in Charlotte, N.C. He was a veteran of the Air Force and attended West Cramerton Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Sr. and Ora Martin Troxell, and his first wife, Margaret H. Troxell.
Surviving are his wife, Diana Moore Troxell of Gastonia; sons, William F. III and wife Gwen Troxell of Charlotte, N.C., and John Berry Troxell of Charlotte, N.C., and fiancée Lynne Lee of Shelby, N.C.; one sister, Nancy Goodpasture, Marion; nephew and wife, Keith and Tina Goodpasture of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Ben and Josh Troxell of Charlotte, N.C.; one step-grandson, Garrett Lowery of Gastonia, N.C.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 1, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C., with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Greene Funeral Service, Southside Chapel, in Gastonia, N.C. Memorial contributions may be made to West Cramerton Baptist Church, 5006 Wilkinson Blvd., Gastonia, N.C. 28056.

Eller
Jake Harvey Eller Jr., age 66, died Friday, June 2, 2000 at his home in Chilhowie.
He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Poston, Chilhowie, and Cindy-Eller-Vaughn, Bristol; one son, Danny Eller, Chilhowie; three sisters, Beulah Thompson, Glade Spring, Peggy Reeves, Marion, and Margaret Gilbert, Chilhowie; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Doane and the Rev. Pat Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in Middlefork Cemetery.

Gillespie
Neil E. Gillespie, age 65, died Monday, June 5, 2000 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Gillespie served in the United States Air force. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Edward Gillespie.
He is survived by three sons, Mark E. Gillespie, James "Jim" Gillespie and Greg Gillespie, all of York, Penn.; his mother, Marie Long Gillespie of Marion; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Garvey Barrett of Marion,; one brother and sister-in-law, Howard "Johnny" and Dorothy Gillespie of Marion; two grandchildren; one niece; two nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Miller
Louise T. Miller, age 69, of Damascus, died Saturday, June 3, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a member of Zion United Methodist Church, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
She was the widow of Robert Alexander Miller.
Surviving are one son, Randy Miller of Meadowview; two grandsons, Robert Clay Miller and William Darrell Miller; three aunts, Mrs. Hubert Caldwell of Saltville, Mrs. Charles Brown of Damascus, and Mrs. Blair Roberts of Abingdon; one uncle, French Thomas of Laurel Bloomery, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 6, at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel wit h the Rev. David Critcher officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 126 West Valley St, Abingdon, VA 24210 or to the Old Dominion Eye Bank, 191 Johnson St., Abingdon, VA 24210.

Odham
Carol Reedy Odham, age 61, died Monday, June 5, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Odham retired from K-mart with 18 years of service. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Reedy and Robert Earl Reedy, and her parents, Jennie and Claude Reedy.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Doctor Brown Odham of Marion; four daughters and one son-in-law, Carolyn Sue Odham, Cynthia Dawn Odham, Kimberly Ann and Eric Huffman, all of Marion, and Claudette Renai Odham of Rural Retreat; six grandchildren, Michael Todd Odham, Megan Colette Huffman, Dakota Austin Huffman, Sabrina Michaela Huffman and Ariel Hope Huffman, all of Marion, and Morgan Nicole Odham of Rural Retreat; one step-grandchild, Chris Anderson of Flatridge; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ross of Troutdale, Edna Reedy of Marion, Ruby Ore of Lynchburg, and Fannie and Avery Greer of Sugar Grove; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Helen Reedy of Lynchburg, and Roy and Ruth Reedy of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Paul Horton officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Hill Cemetery in Troutdale. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
