Snead
Roy M. Snead, age 81, died Thursday, June 22, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Snead was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Lee Glovier Snead. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mountain Empire Radio Club. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy as Military Police and was retired from the Virginia State Police with 24 years of service.
He is survived by one son, Roy M. Snead III and wife Nancy of Rockport, Texas; one granddaughter, Lisa Snead of Houston, Texas; one grandson, Justin Snead of Rockport, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Catherine Kluge of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Jack B. King and wife Lonette of Bristol, and Tommy N. King and wife Ellaine of Radford; one aunt, Louise B. Gibson of Lexington, S.C.; several nieces and nephews; two special caregivers, Bobby Muncy and Bonnie Greer.
Graveside services will be held today, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Miller and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354.

Buchanan
Shug Buchanan, age 92, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Buchanan was a native of Rich Valley and had made his residence in Marion since 1956.o
Surviving are his wife, Margaret White Buchanan; one son, Ted Buchanan, Chilhowie; three daughters, Lorraine B. Mash, Glade Spring, Dorothy Blevins, Kingsport, Tenn., and Naomia Hutton, Marion; three sisters, Lucille Clear, Dorothy Spencer and Carrie Clear, all of Rich Valley; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at the Ridgedale Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Little officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.

Copenhaver
Joe Kemp Copenhaver, age 58, of Hardy, died Friday, June 23, 2000.
Mr. Copenhaver received his bachelors degree from Emory & Henry College and later his masters degree in education from the University of Virginia. His 31-year career in education included serving as a teacher at Round Hill Elementary School, principal of Garden City Elementary and Crystal Spring Elementary. He retired from Roanoke City Schools as Director of Human Resources.
He was a member of Northview United Methodist Church and Phi Kappa Fraternity.
Surviving are his wife, Delilah C. "Dee" Copenhaver; one brother, Jedd Copenhaver and wife, Linda, Auburn, Ind.; two sisters, Jane C. Rill and husband Joe of Springfield, and Judy Shortridge and husband Mike of Norton; nieces and nephews, Pam Arnsbaugh, Paul Copenhaver, Sarah and Alex Shortridge, Jason Porter, Angie Trotter, Cherie Calhoun, and Michael Rill; special cousin, Matt Balzan.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Northview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Louis M. Strickler officiating. Interment

Lampkins
Eula Harrington Lampkins, age 75, died Sunday, June 25, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of David R. Lampkins.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Chuck Lowe of Warrenton; two grandchildren, Ryan C. Lowe and Stephanie A. Lowe, both of Warrenton; two sisters, Eddith Harrington of Sugar Grove, and Enola Harrington of Bel Air, Md.; one brother, Donald Harrington of Sugar Grove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 27, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Bryant Moxley and Dr. Carlton Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. McConnell
Elizabeth Thomas McConnell, age 90, died Saturday, June 24, 2000 in National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Ark.
Mrs. McConnell was born Oct. 5, 1909, and was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Glen and Elizabeth Katherine Thomas, and her husband Floyd B. McConnell. She and her husband first made their home in Hot Spring in 1945 after traveling with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
A Registered Nurse, Mrs. McConnell served humanity in need of special care for many years, always putting others before herself. She worked at the Norris milk plant, St. Joseph Hospital and finally the Arkansas Rehabilitation Hospital in Hot Springs, from which she retired.
Mrs. McConnell was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Ark.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Thomas Greear of Marion; her brother and sister-in-law, Creed and Margaret Thomas of Norfolk; her nieces, Linda Parron, Debra Wilson, and Elizabeth Jean Greear; her nephews, Stephen Thomas and John Greear, all of Virginia; friends and neighbors, Craig, Jennifer, McKendra and Mary Ann Adams.
Graveside services will be held today, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Grant Cemetery in Grayson County with the Rev. Kenneth Blevins officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs, Ark.

Miller
Ina Lindamood Miller, age 89, of Bland, died Friday, June 23, 2000 at New River Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Miller was born March 18, 1911 at Atkins, the daughter of the late Robert Newton and Arra Rader Lindamood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Vaden Miller, two sisters and one grandchild.
She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also an avid amateur radio operator.
She is survived by three sons, Vaden H. Miller and wife Doris, Larry F. Miller and Charles Douglas Miller, all of Bland; three daughters, Lois M. Webb and husband A.W., New Castle, Barbara Ann Miller and Kathryn M. Vaught, both of Bland; one brother, Luther Lindamood, Prescott, Ark.; three sisters, Rosa Arnold, Rural Retreat, Edna Crigger, Atkins, and Ollie Richardson, Rainsville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 25, at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel at White Gate with the Rev. Homer D. Sawyer officiating. Burial was in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.

Scott
Lawrence E. Scott, age 48, died Friday, June 23, 2000 at his home in Roanoke.
Mr. Scott was born March 5, 1952 in Marion, the son of the late Carl Eugene "Buck" and Margaret EmaLee Richardson Scott. He was an avid outdoorsman and was formerly employed by Excel Mining Company in Tazewell. Prior to his illness, he was employed by Rowe Furniture Co., Salem. He was formerly of Canebrake, W.Va.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Anita Scott; three sons, Gary Scott of Berwind, W.Va., Michael Scott and Joey Scott, both of Roanoke; one daughter, Jessica Scott of Roanoke; three sisters, Pat Bowman and husband David, Ann Anderson and husband Willie, and Becky Scott, all of Marion; one granddaughter, Corkey Scott; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Pastor Ce Ce Haxton officiating. Burial followed at 1:30 p.m. in the Attoway Church Cemetery in Smyth County.

Sweeney
Hubert Wayne Sweeney, age 30, of Chilhowie, died Friday, June 23, 2000 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Sweeney was born in Haysi, the son of Arthur and Melster Wallace Sweeney. He was a 1987 graduate of Haysi High School and a graduate of Concord College in Athens, W.Va.
He was employed with the Smyth County School System and was baseball coach and assistant football coach at Marion Senior High School.
He was a past member of Haysi Kiwanis Club and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Stephanie Rae Ratliff Sweeney; three sisters, Lavada Sweeney of Haysi, Tina Compton and Felecia Abdelfattah; one brother, Matthew Sweeney of Haysi; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arvil and Zella Ratliff of Whitewood; brothers-in-law, David Compton and Elshamly Abdelfattah.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 27, at 2 p.m. in Haysi Funeral Home with the Rev. Buford Smith, the Rev. Claudie Throgmartin and the Rev. Ronnie Parks officiating. Burial followed in J.S. Willis Cemetery in Haysi.

Cox
Ronald F. Cox, age 64, of Chilhowie, died Monday, June 26, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jim Boyd Cox.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Patricia Hawkins Huffman of Tappahannock; two step-grandchildren, Jason T. Fuller of Buena Vista, and Daren T. Fuller of New Bern, N.C.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Miller officiating. Entombment followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. McKee
Robert Vance McKee Sr., age 81, of Glade Spring, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. McKee was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Webb McKee. He was a graduate of VPI, class of 1950, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a retired agent with the Internal Revenue Service and a member of the Byars-Cobb United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Robert V. McKee Jr., Lynchburg; one daughter, Eve McKee Marchant, Bristol Tenn.; one sister, Isabell Rambo, Glade Spring; one grandson, Michael Richard McKee "Mac" DeBusk, Blacksburg; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted today, July 1, at 2 p.m. in Kelly’s Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Graham officiating.
