Millie F. Ulsh
ORWIN - Millie F. Ulsh, 85, died July 31 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Aug. 6, 1920 in Orwin, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Behney Paul.
She and her husband were the retired owners and operators of Ulsh's Bakery in Tower City and Dewey Beach, Del.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Porter Tower Lionettes.
She was the widow of Russell Ulsh.
Surviving are three sons, Roger R. and Kerry A., both of Orwin and Jeffrey L. of Muir; three daughters, Barbara L. Taylor and Carol A. Schaeffer, both of Orwin and Sandra K. Jones of Fla.; a brother, John Paul of Camp Hill; two sisters, Gladys Koppenhaver and Mae Minnich, both of Orwin; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Services were held Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home in Tower City. Burial was at the St. Peter's Cemetery in Orwin.

Ruby Jewel Artz
HEGINS - Ruby Jewel Artz, 54, of 487 Goodspring Road, died July 31 at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville.
Born Aug. 16, 1951 in Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James E. and Ruby E. Flannery.
She was employed as a food inspector with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Fredericksburg.
She was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Robert L. Artz, Sr.; two sons, Robert L. Artz Jr. of Selinsgrove and Jonas E. Artz of Spring Glen; a daughter, Teresa M. Schwalm of Hegins; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 3 at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home. Burial was at Friedens Cemetery in Hegins.
Susanna Jane Schwartz
HEGINS - Susanna Jane Schwartz, 73, died July 31 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born March 13, 1933 in Lavelle, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Alice Roselda Felker Smith.
She and her husband owned and operated Schwartz' Roadside Market before retiring.
She was a member of the Fearnot Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by a son, Craig R. Schwartz, a sister, Kay Marlow and a brother, Jack C. Smith.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Richard D. Schwartz; a son, Richard W. Schwartz of Tower City; two daughters, Deborah K. Artz of Valley View and Tracey L. Geist of Hegins; two brothers, Harry L. "Pete" Smith of Hegins and Frank L. Smith of Lavelle; three sisters, Jeanette E. Young of Philadelphia, Lucille A. Miller of Lingelstown and Frieda R. Johnson of Lavelle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 4 at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home. Burial was at Friedens Cemetery in Hegins.

Patricia M. Morgan
HEGINS - Patricia M. Morgan, 63, of 464 Broad St., died Aug. 1 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born Feb. 24, 1943 in Elyria, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Vernon W. and June R. Toward Limbert.
She was employed as a machine operator for the former Penn Fishing Reel Co. of Fountain.
She was a member of Friedens United Church Christ in Hegins.
Surviving are her husband, Leonard E. Morgan; a daughter, Sandra Ney of Hegins; a son, Darryl Morgan of Fredensburg; a brother, Dennis Limbert of Valley View; a sister, Susan Geist of Hegins; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 7 at Friedens United Church of Christ. Burial was at Fountain Community Cemetery.

Rev. Dr. Blaine Leslie Miller, Jr.
DALMATIA - Rev. Dr. Blaine Leslie Miller, Jr., 78, died July 31 at his home.
Born July 1, 1928 in Washington, he was the son of the late Blaine L. Miller, Sr. and Ethel G. Bennett Miller.
He was a graduate of Washington High School, Shippensburg State College, Wesley Theological Seminary and Drew University.
He served in the U.S. Marines Corp during WW II.
He was formerly employed as a journeyman machinist in Chambersburg, worked in labor relations for Mack Trucking in Hagerstown, Md., was a licensed realtor, was ordained into the ministry and served in the United Methodist Church Conferences and the United Church of Christ.
He was a member of the USS Coral Sea Association, was a volunteer ambulance driver, initiated a local community food bank and coordinated the Marysville Bicentennial festivities.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Rundquist and Lillian Friend.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara S. Clendenin Miller; three sons, Steven Blaine Miller of New Cumberland, Robert Dale Miller of Marysville and Jon David Miller of Dillsburg; five sisters, Elaine Freiberger, Lela Davidson, Lila Hufford and Carolyn Blackhurst, all of Washington and Priscilla McGuinness of Taunton, Mass.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. at Himmel's Church in Rebuck. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. A private burial will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

ELIZABETHVILLE - Arlea J. Bordner, 69, of 44 S. Market St., formerly of First St., Millersburg, died Aug. 3 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born June 10, 1937 in Pillow, she was the daughter of the late Kay and Iva May Schreffler Klinger.
She was a retired voter registration clerk at the Dauphin County Courthouse in Harris-burg.
Surviving are two daughters, Jamie S. Bordner and Pamela J. Arsenault, both of Millersburg and four grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Hoover Funeral Homes in Millersburg. Burial will be private.
Earl A. "Grass" Buffington
WICONISCO - Earl A. "Grass" Buffington, 81, formerly of Lykens, died Aug. 2 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Lykens, he was the son or the late Claude and Elizabeth Stanley Buffington.
He was a 1942 graduate of the former Lykens High School.
He was a Marine veteran of W.W. II, participated with the third Marine division at the Battle of Guam where he as wounded in action and awarded the purple heart.
He was a retired employee of Reiff & Nestor Co. in Lykens.
He was a member of the former Grace Methodist Church in Lykens.
He was a member and former fire chief of Liberty Hose Co. No. 2 in Lykens, co-founder of the former Lykens & Wiconisco Ambulance Assoc., formerly Lykens Borough Council president, former member of the Upper Dauphin Area School Board, appointed forest fire warden by the Department of Forest and Water, active in the Boy Scout organization, member and past president of Dauphin County Volunteer Firemen's Assoc., member of the Ashlar Lodge No. 570 F&AM in Lykens, Gratz V.F.W. Post No. 2385, Lykens Minstrel Assoc., Lykens High School Alumni Association and Disabled American Veterans.
He was the widower of Winifred Lupold Buffington.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Buffington of North Carolina and Rahn Buffington of Honolulu, Hawaii; a brother, James A. Buffington, Sr. of Lykens; and two grandsons.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Burial was at Calvary United Methodist Church in Wiconisco.

OCALA, Fla. - Elsie K. Smeltz, 91, formerly of Hegins, died Oct. 7 at the home of her son in Inverness, Fla.
Born Aug. 21, 1915 in Barry Twp., she was the daughter of the late John B. and Dena E. Koons Ebert.
She was the owner and operator of Elsie's Ceramics and Elsie's Restaurant in Hegins.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Inverness, Fla. and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 372.
She was the widow of Leo Smeltz. She also was preceded in death by a son, Errol Smeltz.
Surviving are two sons, Matthew Paul of Inverness, Fla. and Douglas Paul of Riverview, Fla.; a daughter, Tracy Daley of Mount Holley, N.J.; a brother, Lewis Ebert of Hegins; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 13 at Friedens Lutheran Church in Hegins. Burial was at Friedens Cemetery in Hegins.

John D. Hoch
SUNBURY - John D. "Hochie" Hoch, 71, of 144 Catawissa Avenue, died Oct. 8 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born July 5, 1935 in Rebuck, he was the son of the late Francis L. and Daisy M. Feger Hoch.
He was a 1953 graduate of the former Mahanoy Joint High School in Herndon RR.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a retired brick layer for Hauck Construction Com-pany, Inc. in Harrisburg.
He was a member of Himmel's Church in Rebuck, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft-workers of Harrisburg, the Lower Mahanoy Fire Com-pany in Dalmatia and the Erdman Sportsman's Associa-tion and a life member of the Herndon Fire Company.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Meriam Hoch and June Fellin.
Surviving are his wife, Betty E. Klinger Badman Hoch; a son, Gary Hoch of Manassa, Va.; a daughter, Connie Berryann of Quakertown; two stepsons, Reynold Badman of Los Angeles, Calif. and Clarence Badman of Sunbury ; a stepdaughter, Margaret Sholley of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Virginia Hoch of Dornsife; two brothers, Merlin Hoch of Dornsife RR and William Hoch of Middletown; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and a step-great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home.

Robert C. Shiffer
CARLISLE - Robert C. Shiffer, 55, formerly of Millersburg, died Sept. 29 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1951 in Harrisburg, he was the son of Irvin C. Shiffer of Millersburg and the late Esther Shiffer and the late Robert C. Shiffer, Sr. and Phyllis Gotshall Shiffer.
He graduated from Millersburg High School, received a bachelor of science degree from Susquehanna University and a master's degree from William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va.
He was the director of research and development at Carlisle Syntec.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carlisle, the American Chemical Society, American Society of Testing Materials, the Philadelphia Rubber Group and the North American Hunting Club.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife of 28 years, Marilyn Rose Enswiler Shiffer; a daughter, Kara Lynn Tustin of Harrisburg; and a sister, Judy Harris of Millers-burg.
Services were held Oct. 4 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carlisle. Burial was private.

Born Sept. 12, 1917 in Taneytown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth E. Ohler Stambaugh.
She attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore.
She was a retired food services supervisor for the Upper Dauphin Area School District.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Elizabethville where she was a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, director of junior/youth choir, Luther League advisor and a member of the church council and senior choir and was the organist.
She was the widow of Paul Rummel. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. "Bud" Stambaugh and a great-grandson.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy R. Daniel of Duncansville and Carolyn D. Schade of Dillsburg; three sisters, Lucille Zepp of Littlestown, Verna Wentz of Hanover and Janice Myers of Dover; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 13 at Salem Lutheran Church in Elizabethville. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elizabethville.

She was the widow of Harry Nace. She also was preceded in death by a son, Edward Nace and a daughter, Betty Jane McClure.

He was a retired electrician from U.S. Steel.
He was a social member of Liberty Hose Co. No. 2 in Lykens.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward J. Harrington, Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Marlene D. Harrington; a daughter, Elizabeth Eberhart of Elizabethville; a brother; a sister; and four grandsons.
