Eva Mae Paul
MILLERSBURG – Eva Mae Paul, 88, a resident of The Manor at Susquehanna Village, died March 4 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1919 in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Blanche Billman Shrawder.
She retired from the former Muskin shoe factory in Millersburg.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and its women's ministry and the Millersburg Senior Center.
She was the widow of Robert Paul. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Malehorn and a granddaughter.
Surviving are three sons, Frank Straub of Harrisburg and Kenneth Straub and Robert Paul, both of Millersburg; three daughters, Lena Messersmith of Elizabethville and Darla Osman and Pat Noblit, both of Millersburg; a brother, Albert Shrawder of Millersburg; three sisters, Beatrice Roadcap of Millersburg and Gloria Yeager and Fayetta Smeltzer, both of Halifax; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 8 at Millersburg Assembly of God Church. Burial was at Enders Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Rose M. Cox
WILLIAMSTOWN – Rose M. Cox, 83, of Fifth Street, died March 5 at her home.
Born Jan. 2, 1924 in Williamstown, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Bessie Pennell Whitcomb.
She was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Samuel Cox.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel J. Cox of Williamstown and Dennis R. Cox of Tower City; a sister, Alma Williams of Virginia; two granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
Services were held March 8 at the Williamstown United Methodist Church, Burial was at Fairview Cemetery.

Charles Ray Green
HEGINS – Charles Ray Green, 69, of 470 South Goodspring Road, died March 5 at York Terrace Nursing Home in Pottsville.
Born Aug. 21, 1937 in Pottsville, he was the son of Alma Mae Lubold Green of Hegins and the late Charles P. Green.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was the widower of Lucille M. Miller Green.
Surviving are a son, Craig A. Green of Gordon; two daughters, Colleen R. Lentz and Audrey C. Spickler, both of Hegins; two brothers, Lamar Green of Mansfield and Scott Green of Hegins; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services were held March 9 at Friedens United Church of Christ.

Arlene S. Wagner
ELIZABETHVILLE – Arlene S. Wagner, 84, died March 3 at the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown.
Born July 2, 1922 in Elizabethville, she was the daughter of the late Frank Smeltzer and the late Minnie Forney.
She worked as a secretary for Regional Lutheran Synod Services.
She was a member of Eastern Star.
She was the widow of Kenneth Wolfe and Robert Wagner. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Claire and Elmer Smeltzer.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held March 6 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elizabethville.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Hoover Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.

Sinforoso B. "Ponching" Nuez
WILLIAMSTOWN – Sinforoso B. "Ponching" Nuez, 92, died March 4 at the Pottsville Hospital.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Williamstown, Philippine American Association of Harrisburg and an army veteran of W.W. II serving with the Filipino Resistance.
Surviving are two daughter, Perla Smith and Yolanda Nuez, both of Williamstown and three grandsons.
Services were held March 9 at his church.

Charles W. "Chal" Schoffstall
WICONISCO – Charles W. "Chal" Schoffstall died March 5 at his home.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Schoffstall; a daughter, Rosemary Klinger of Lykens; a son, Chal Schoffstall of Berrysburg; a brother, Ralph Schoffstall of Wiconisco; a sister, Maude Washburn of Williamstown; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 8 at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home.

Lillian A. Maurer
KLINGERSTOWN – Lillian A. Maurer, 88, died March 5 at The Manor at Susquehanna Village in Millersburg.
Born Aug. 27, 1918 in Pitman, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Mayme Haas Geist.
She was employed at the former Boyer Meats in Klingerstown.
She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Klingerstown.
She was the widow of Marlin J. Maurer. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Kehler and Jennie Wolfgang and a brother, Leon "Bud" Geist.
Surviving are a son, Marlin "Sonny" Maurer of Elizabethville; a daughter, Kay Davis of Gratz; two sisters, Verna Mattern of Klingerstown and Betty Wilson of Phoenixville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Klingerstown.
The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth K. Boyer
MILLERSBURG – Ruth K. Boyer, 87, of the Polk Assisted Living Facility, died March 6 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1920 in Tower City, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Martha Dubbs Shultz.
She was a 1937 graduate of the former Lykens High School.
She worked at the former Tobias 5 & Dime store in Millersburg.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where she was a choir member and a women's guild member.
She was the widow of Russell H. Boyer. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy, an infant daughter, and three brothers, Harry Shultz and John and Lloyd Dubbs.
Surviving are a son, Russell Boyer of Halifax; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 10 at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial was at Calvary United Methodist Church in Wiconisco.

Walter I. Spicher, Jr.
TOWER CITY – Walter I. Spicher, Jr., 89, of 89 Dietrich Avenue, died March 8 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville.
Born Feb. 14, 1918 in Elizabethville, he was the son of the late Walter Sr. and Nora Barge Spicher.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was a retired painter and paper hanger from Harrisburg Decorating and was a self employed painter and paper hanger.
He was a member of Grace E.C. Church in Muir, Ashlar Lodge 570 F&AM where he was a past master, Harrisburg Consistory, Tremont Royal Arch and the Valley View and Tower City American Legions.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, E. Mae Stover Spicher; a son, Lonnie P. Spicher of Muncy; a daughter, Nina M. Markel of Carlisle; two brothers, Jay Spicher of Middletown and Larry Rice of New York; three sisters, Ruby Zeigler of Millersburg and Gloria Rice and Molly Wiest, both of Elizabethville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 13 at the chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes in Tower City. Burial was at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Lloyd E. Hartman
COCOLAMUS - Lloyd E. Hartman, 91, of HCR Box 10, died April 29 at his residence.
Born Sept. 15, 1915 in Lykens Twp., he was the son of the late Allen and Bertha Anna Radel Hartman.
He was of the protestant faith.
He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Mildred I. Shaffer; a daughter, Gladys Keiter of Cocolamus; and four grandchildren.
Services were held May 4 at the James A. Reed Funeral Home. Burial was at County Line in Dalmatia.

Jan Wagner Parker
CARLISLE - Jan Wagner Parker, 51, died April 30 at her residence.
Born Aug. 18, 1955 in Sunbury, she was the daughter of the late Floyd W. and Velma Messner Wagner of Herndon.
She was employed by Capital Blue Cross.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Marysville and a life member of Cumberland County Choral Society.
Surviving are her husband of 15 years, Robbie C. Parker; two sisters, Patricia Krommes of Dalmatia and Susan Arbogast of Harrisburg; and two brothers, Keith Wagner of Lewisberry and Reynold Wagner of Hegins.
Services will be held Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church at 450 Sylvan Street in Marysville. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Lloyd W. Horst
LYKENS - Lloyd W. Horst, 53, of 312 Indian Trail Road, died May 1 at his residence.
Born April 6, 1954 in East Earl Twp., he was the son of Annie S. Weaver Horst and the late Adam M. Horst.
He was a produce farmer.
He was a member of deacon of the Hegins Valley Mennonite Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Eunice Burkholder Horst; four sons, Lydon Ray Horst, Calvin Eugene Horst, Leslie David Horst and Eldon Mark Horst, all at home; a daughter, Lucille Nadine Horst, at home; six sisters, Mary Burkholder of Kutztown, Mabel Newswanger of Roaring Springs, Lena Horst of East Earl, Irene Horst of East Earl, Ella Mae Zimmerman of Ephrata and Ruth Horst of Wernersville; and four brothers, Paul Horst of East Earl, Henry Horst of Ephrata, Adam Horst of Mohrsville and James Horst of Stevens.
Services were held May 4 at Hegins Valley Mennonite Church. Burial was at Hegins Valley Mennonite Church Cemetery.
James A. Reed Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Guy A. Smeltz
MECHANICSBURG - Guy A. Smeltz, 82, of 43 Ashburg Drive, died May 1 at the Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born July 28, 1924 in Gratz, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ida Klinger Smeltz.
He worked as a cab driver for West Shore Taxi and Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hoffman and a brother, Dean Smeltz.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Larue A. Crabb Smeltz; three daughters, Donnie Keefauver of Mechanicsburg, Sharon Hauber of Valparaiso, Ind. and Patty Houck of Mechanicsburg; three sons, Ken Smeltz of Highspire, Kim Smeltz of New Cumberland and Dennis Smeltz of Hummelstown; a brother, Robert Smeltz of Pennsburg; a sister, Norma Strohecker of Old Zionsville; 15 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 5 at Hoover Funeral Homes in Elizabethville. Burial was at St. Peter's "Hoffman" Cemetery in Lykens.

Phillip L. Fromm
MILLERSBURG - Phillip L. Fromm, 79, died April 29.
Born Feb. 18, 1928 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Michael and Jeanette Frank Fromm.
He served as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.
He was a doctor of optometry owning is own business.
He provided free vision screening services to young students at Halifax, Line Mountain, Millersburg, Upper Dauphin and Williams Valley school districts, as well as the Amish school and Christian schools in the Millersburg area.
He was 50 year member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and active in the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Loyal Order of Moose, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Masonic Orders.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Robert Wilson Starr, Jr.
ELIZABETHVILLE - Robert Wilson Starr, Jr., 62, formerly of Harrisburg, died April 30 at the Kepler Home.
Born Feb. 23, 1945 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Robert Starr Sr. and the late Dorothy Blamer Starr.
He worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Starr.
Surviving are two daughters, Tina Starr and Karen Starr, both of Harrisburg; three sisters, Shirley Thompson of Millersburg; Gail Allen of Middletown and Sheila Ford of Harrisburg; a brother, Thomas Starr of Harrisburg; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be held at the family's convenience.

Joyce L. Strohecker
MILLERSBURG - Joyce L. Strohecker, 73, of 990 Medical Road, died May 3 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1933 in Mandata, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie M. Dressler Wendt.
She was a member of Reigle's Bible Fellowship Church in Millersburg and the Red Hat Society.
She was the widow of Elwood R. Strohecker.
Surviving are four sons, David Strohecker of Gratz, Roy Strohecker of Killinger, Gary Strohecker of Paxton and Scott Strohecker of Spring Glen; two daughters, Lorraine Howerter of Millersburg and Donna Welker of Spring Glen; a brother, Robert Wendt of Dornsife; 11 grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Services were held May 7 at her church. Burial was at the church's cemetery.

Goldie Inez Crabb Maurer
ELIZABETHVILLE - Goldie Inez Crabb Maurer, 88, died May 4.
Born Sept. 26, 1918 in Lena, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Preston and Cora Shippy Klinger.
She was a self-employed farmer and employed by the Nedrich Shirt factory.
She was affiliated with St. John's Lutheran Church of Berrysburg.
She was the widow of Edward Crabb. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Klinger and a grandson.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Ray Maurer of Elizabethville; two sons, Benjamin Crabb of Elizabethville and Daniel Crabb of Millersburg; two sisters, Laura Rice of Lena, Ill. and Dorothey Smeck of Pasadena, Md.; a brother, Johnathan Klinger of Loyalton; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Halifax.
