Clara R. Zimmerman
MILLERSBURG - Clara R. Zimmerman, 89, formerly of Halifax, died Jan. 6 at The Manor at Susquehanna Village.
She was born Dec. 30, 1918.
She had worked for the former Muskin shoe factory in Millersburg.
She attended St. James Church in Halifax.
She was the widow of Ray N. Zimmerman. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Zeiders.
Surviving are a brother, Elmer Shive of Harrisburg; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 10 at St. James Church. Burial was at St. James Cemetery in Halifax.

Phyllis Anna Artz
HEGINS - Phyllis Anna Artz, 65, of 138 Deer Lane, died Jan. 8 at the Pottsville Hospital.
Born Nov. 14, 1942 in Pine Grove, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Sally Wolfe.
She was a seamstress for Morgan Knitting Mills in Valley View.
Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Marlin E. Artz; a son, Anthony E. Artz of Hegins; a daughter, Norma Jean Wilson of El Paso, Tex.; a brother; three sisters; and two grandsons.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Lillian Mae Bowman
MILLERSBURG - Lillian Mae Bowman, 85, died Jan. 7.
Born April 26, 1922 in Lykens, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Eva Hoffman Kemble.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millersburg.
She was the widow of Marlin Ross Bowman. She also was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a daughter.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Bowman of Harrisburg and Dennis Bowman of Millersburg; two brothers, Norman Kemble of New Cumberland and Don Kemble of Millsboro, Del.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 11 at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home. Burial was at Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill.

Robert J. Schylaske
HALIFAX - Robert J. Schylaske, 75, died Jan. 8 at Stonebridge Health and Rehab in Duncannon.
Born Aug. 28, 1932 in Porter Twp., he was the son of the late Edwin and Viola Unger Schylaske.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a retired inspector for TRW in Harrisburg.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Enterline.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Eugene and Albert Schylaske and Leonard Schaeffer and two sisters, Anna O'Dell and Sarah Thompson.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam R. Reiner Schylaske; a son, Richard A. Schylaske of Halifax; two brothers, Harold Schylaske and Ray Schylaske, both of Tower City; a sister, Betty Reitenbach of Tower City; and two grandsons.
Services were held Jan. 11 at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Homes in Elizabethville. Burial was at Calvary United Methodist Cemetery in Wiconisco.

Mary I. Deibert Hostler
CARLISLE - Mary I. Deibert Hostler, 86, formerly of Harrisburg, died Jan. 8 at Manor Care.
Born Mar. 10, 1921 in Klingerstown RD, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer and Sadie Knorr Deibert.
She was a 1937 graduate of Hubley Twp. High School.
She was a retired state employee.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran "Klinger's" Church in Erdman and the Moose Lodge in Harrisburg.
She was the widower of Nevin A. Deppen and James Hostler. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Deibert and an infant brother.
Surviving are a son, Nevin Deppen of Camp Hill; two sisters, Helen Donmoyer and Eva Daniels, both of Gratz; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 12 at Zion Lutheran "Klinger's" Church. Burial was at Zion Lutheran "Klinger's" Church Cemetery in Erdman.

Virginia E. Smeltz
DALMATIA - Virginia E. Smeltz, 77, died Jan. 9 at Sunbury Community Hospital.
Born Mar. 21, 1930 in Hickory Corners, she was the daughter of the late Garland and Jennie Radel Wynn.
She was a 1948 graduate of Lower Mahanoy High School.
She and her husband founded and operated the former Country Kitchen Restaurant in Herndon RR.
She was a member of Zion Stone Valley United Church of Christ in Hickory Corners, Stone Valley Ladies Aid and Keepers and the Hickory Corners Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Melvin D. Smeltz; a daughter, Debra Leitzel of Dalmatia RR; a son, Rodney Smeltz of Wilkes-Barre; two sisters, Leona Shaffer of Elizabethville and Carol Jean Witmer of Dalmatia RR; a brother, Ivan Wynn of Dalmatia RR; and two grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 12 at Zion Stone Valley Church. Burial was at Zion Stone Valley Cemetery in Dalmatia RR.

Born Mar. 30, 1931 in Joliett, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Katie Scholl Bordner.
She was a graduate of the former Porter Twp. High School.
She was the widow of Charles L. Haubenstine.
Surviving are a son, David L. Haubenstine of Valley View; a brother, Charles Bordner of Elizabethtown; three granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

HEGINS - Arlene Jean Otto, 80, of 55 Orchard Road, died Jan. 10 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June. 6, 1927 in Fountain, she was the daughter of the late Gurney A. and Neva E. Stutzman Coleman.
She was a 1945 graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School.
She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Fountain and the Willing Workers of her church.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Robert and Donald Coleman.
Surviving are two sons, Lynn A. Otto of Tremont and Ricky L. Otto of Valley View; two sisters, Eleanor Miller of Valley View and Nancy Troutman of Herndon; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 14 at Christ United Church of Christ. Burial was at Fountain Community Cemetery.

DALMATIA - Iva M. Adams, 85, of Georgetown Heights, died Jan. 10 at her residence.
Born April 15, 1922 in Herndon, she was the daughter of the late George and Katie Bobb Rebuck.
She was retired from the Seal glove factory in Millersburg.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Millersburg, ladies auxiliary of Lower Mahanoy and Hickory Corners fire companies and active with the Dalmatia Area Ambulance.
She was the widow of Edward S. Adams. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Ralph, George and Mark and a sister, Pearl Hoy.
Surviving are a daughter, Lena Reitz of Triangle, Va.; a son, Kenneth R. Adams of Herndon RD; two brothers, Robert Rebuck of Millersburg and Paul Rebuck of Graceville, Fla.; three sisters, Myrtle Ferster, formerly of Dornsife, Betty Rickert of Herndon and Hannah Long of Dewart; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services were held Jan. 15 at Trinity UCC. Burial was at Northumberland Memorial Park in Stonington.

TOWER CITY - Blair L. Buffington, 75, of Wiconisco Ave., died Jan. 11 at Manor Care in Lebanon.
Born Aug. 23, 1921 in Gratz, he was the son of the late Milton and Maude Klinger Buffington.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He was retired from HB Reese Candy Company.
He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Muir, Ashlar Lodge No. 570 F&AM in Lykens were he served as a tyler, Valley of Harrisburg Consistory as a 32nd degree mason where he served as a sentinel, Tremont Chapter No. 221 in Valley View where he was a former high priest, Prince of Peace Commendary No. 39 in Ashland where he served as knights templer, Regal Council No. 65 in Pottsville, Upper Dauphin Shrine Club where he served as president, Zembo Temple of Harrisburg, Usher Unit and Perry Juniata Club, Past President Club, Cumberland County Shire Club, served as chairman of Schuylkill County Membership Committee, president of the Schuylkill County Scottish Rites Club out of the Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, member of the Schuylkill County Shrine Club, Valley Rajah Temple of Reading and a past Scout master of troop No. 115 of Tower City.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Lynore K. Houtz Buffington; three daughters, Roxanne Jones of Minersville, Cheryl Carl of Lebanon and Lynette "Tiger" Klinger of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes in Tower City. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
