Frederick W. Buck, 84, of 503 West Willow Drive, Manheim, Pennsylvania, formerly of 336 Eagles View Road, Haysville, North Carolina, died of natural causes Monday morning, November 5, 2001 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim.
Frederick was a mechanical engineer for IBM for 25 years. He retired in 1982.
An Army Air Force veteran, Frederick served as a private with the 820th Bombardment Squadron and the 485th Bombardment Group during World War II.
Frederick earned a mechanical engineering degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.
Frederick also attended Julliard School of Music, which he left to compose music. He composed the “New World March”, which was played by the Valley Stream Central High School band, of which he was an alumnus. The band played Buck’s music at the 1939 World’s Fair Parade in New York.
Frederick was a member of First United Methodist Church, Haysville, where he composed music for the church choir and was active as the church pianist.
Born in Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Edward O. and Valeska Yurashek Buck.
Frederick was married to Drusilla W. Wadsworth Buck.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Frederick A., married to Debbie Anderson Buck of McDonough, New York; John William, married to Pamela Buck of Nyack, New York; and David F., married to Lynne Lightowler Buck of Bainbridge, New York; two daughters, Christine M. Sauter of Chatham, New York; and Carolyn R. Buck of San Francisco; and eight grandchildren.

FAHNESTOCK, MONROE, G, 78, DAIRY FARMER
Monroe G. Fahnestock, 78, of 1206 North Strickler Road, Manheim, died Monday morning, November 19, 2001 at Lancaster General Hospital of natural causes following a lengthy illness.
Born in Berks County, Monroe was the son of the late Monroe Gockley and Susanna Ginder Fahnestock.
Monroe was married 57 years on August 19 to Verda Mae Myer Fahnestock.
A lifelong dairy farmer up until 1980, Monroe was a member of White Oak Church of the Brethren in Manheim.
Monroe enjoyed gardening and reading.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Paul married to Fern Krall Fahnestock, Dale married to Doris Witmer Fahnestock, both of Manheim, and J. Marlin married to Carol Zeager Fahnestock of Wales, Maine; two daughters, Nancy Fahnestock of Manheim and Norma married to Stanley Zeager of Bainbridge; 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter; two brothers, Rufus married to Marie Fahnestock of Manheim and Norman married to Ruth Fahnestock of Lancaster; five sisters, Theda married to Raymond Sensenig of Lititz, Mary Loump of Mount Joy, Nettie Krall of Myerstown, Edith Fahnestock and Mabel married to Alvin Diffenderfer both of Manheim.
Monroe was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Allen Fahnestock and a sister, Esther Fahnestock.

Mable W. Gibble, 89, of 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, formerly of 205 North Main Street, Manheim, died unexpectedly of natural causes Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim where she lived since May 1995.
A homemaker, Mabel was a member of the White Oak Church of the Brethren in Manheim and the Lancaster General Hospital Auxilary.
An avid reader, Mabel enjoyed flower gardening.
Born in Rothsville, Mabel was the daughter of the late Andrew and Annie Witters Bollinger.
Her husband, Rufus G. Gibble, died September 28, 1995.
Surviving are three sons, Eugene, married to Janet Shirk Gibble and J. Rodney, married to Sandra Shank Gibble both of Manheim and Robert G., married to Christie Lupton Gibble of Ocean View, New Jersey; a daughter, Shirley G. Canias of Lancaster, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mabel was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Bollinger and John Bollinger, and a sister, Elsie Greenly.

Leonell M. “ Gil” Gilchrist, Sailing Enthusiast
Leonell M. “Gil” Gilchrist, 76, of 1343 Graystone Road, Manheim, Pennsylvania, died Monday morning, November 5, 2001 at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster following a brief illness.
Born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Melvin E. and Dorothy Rupe Gilchrist.
Mr. Gilchrist worked many years as a mechanical engineer for Honeywell Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. Gil was the husband of the late Kathleen Crotzer Gilchrist who died in September of 1989.
Mr. Gilchrist was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.
He received a bachelors of science degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University. He had an active interest in the investment financial stock markets.
A sailing enthusiast, along with his wife spent the past thirty years sailing throughout the world traveling through the Caribbean islands, ports of Spain, and most recently Trinidad, Venezuela.
Surviving are a sister, Jane G. Goshorn of Manheim, two nephews, Richard M. married to Cindy Goshorn, of Brownstown, Steven D. married to Teri Groff Goshorn, Manheim, two grand nephews and two grand nieces also survive.

Alvena Mae Gochnauer, 60, of 122 North Charlotte Street (Rear) in Manheim, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, December 10, 2001 at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a two-year illness.
Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Alvena is the daughter of Alvin S. and Ellen Connelly Gibble of the Mennonite Home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Alvena worked in food service for two years at the Landis Homes Retirement Community until her illness. Previously, she worked in the billing department for Community Hospital of Lancaster.
A member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Manheim, Alvena was a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and a vacation Bible school teacher. She enjoyed flower gardening.
Surviving in addition to her mother and father is two daughters, Hope Lynn, married to Randell S. Neff of Manheim and Lisa A., married to Dean R. Gantz Jr.; of Mountville; two grandchildren and a sister, Debra L., married to Thomas Reese of Manheim.
Alvena was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin “Junior” Gibble and a sister, Darlene Gibble.

Anna R. Gochnauer, 90, formerly of 1996 Edgemont Drive, East Petersburg, died of natural causes Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim where she lived for the past five years.
Anna was employed by the former Ann Witmer Home and the former Consumer Packing, both of Lancaster.
Anna was a member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church and its women’s sewing circle.
Anna enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and playing the pump organ.
For many years, Anna was the caregiver for her mother.
Born in East Hempfield Township, Anna was the daughter of the late John H. and Sadie Baymond Gochnauer.
Surviving are a niece, Linda A. Bailey of Lancaster; and a nephew, John Barry, married to Ruth Ann Gochnauer of Columbia.
Anna was preceded in death by a brother, John B. Gochnauer.

Josephine E. Hevener, 77, of 31 Green Acre Road,, Lititz, died of natural causes Wednesday morning, December 5, 2001 at Lancashire Hall.
Josephine was employed for 11 years by the former Wagaman’s Printing Company in Lititz.
Josephine was a member of St. Richard’s Catholic Church, Manheim, and a 30-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #5956 in Manheim.
In her early years, Josephine was a junior Girl Scout leader in the Lititz area.
An avid traveler, Josephine traveled throughout Europe.
Born in Pittsburgh, Josephine was the daughter of the late William and Josephine Hughes O’Connell.
Josephine was married 50 years in June to William D. Hevener.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Georgia M. Hevener of Manheim and Audrey, married to Benedikt Gleissl of Allentown; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, James O’Connell of Selinsgrove; and a sister, Juanita Hershey of Manheim.
Josephine was preceded in death by three brothers, John “Jack” O’Connell, William O’Connell and Patrick F. O’Connell.

KEENER, HENRY, 88, Feed Business
Henry F. Keener, 88, of Landis Homes Retirement Community, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, formerly of Ephrata, died Saturday morning, October 27, 2001 at the retirement community of natural causes following a brief illness. Mr. Keener lived at Landis Homes for two years.
Born in Rapho Township, Pennsylvania, Henry was the son of the late Samuel D. and Minnie S. Flinchbaugh Keener.
His wife, Elsie G. Miller Keener died on July 11, 1999.
Henry was a salesman and serviceman for a full line of commercial feeds. He worked for John W. Eshelman and Sons in Lancaster for 14 years. Prior to that, he worked for Wenger Feeds in Rheems, PA and Beacon Milling in Kayuga, New York. Mr. Keener was in the feed business for 37 years.
Henry was also a house parent at the Milton Hershey School in the early 1930’s.
Henry was a member of the Brunnerville United Methodist Church, Lititz for 30 years.
An avid hunter and golfer. Henry enjoyed traveling to the West Coast and the New England States. He enjoyed woodworking, flower and vegetable gardening and was the Grand Champion twice at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show for his black walnuts.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy M., married to Robert G. McCafferty, Dorset, Vermont; Janet M. Keener of Costa Mesa, California; and Joyce, married to Thomas H. Cherones Jr., of Florence, Oregon; six grandsons and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Elizabeth “Betty” married to Abner G. Miller, Landis Homes and Esther S., married to Lester Keener of Elizabethtown.
In addition to his wife, Henry was preceded in death by a son, George Arthur Keener who died in 1988.

Alyssa Nicole Keppley, 27 months old, of 439 Woodcrest Avenue, Lititz, died Saturday morning, December 8, 2001 at home of natural causes. Alyssa was born severely premature resulting in a history of physical complications.
Born in Harrisburg, Alyss was the daughter of Eric L. and Anita J. Young Keppley.
She received therapy at home from the Schreiber Pediatrics Rehab Center and the Susquehanna Association for the Blind. Alyssa attended Schreiber Pediatrics water works program where she was in the tadpole class.
In 2001, Alyssa was featured in the Susquehanna Association for the Blind Annual Calendar. Alyssa was “Miss February”.
Alyssa enjoyed swimming, taking walks, playing on the swings with her sister and having her father play “belly monster.”
Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Rebecca Hope Keppley, at home; maternal grandparents, John and Terry Fair Young, Manheim; maternal grandmothers, Janet Fair, Lancaster, and Martha Young, Manheim; paternal grandparents Brian and Alice Schaeffer Keppley, Richland; and paternal great-grandmother Freida Keppley, Lancaster.

KILLHEFFER, DR. HAROLD C., AGE 96, OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Harold C. Killheffer, age 96, of Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, formerly of 163 South Charlotte Street, Manheim died Sunday, November 18, 2001 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness.
Harold was the husband of the late Frances Harriet Wright Killheffer who died in 1973. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John D. and Alice Hackman Killheffer.
An optometrist, Dr Killheffer practiced from his residence in Manheim and in Elizabethtown from 1936 until his retirement in 1986. Before moving to Manheim he practiced optometry in Paterson, NJ and York, PA.
He attended the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ and Caldwell High School, Caldwell, NJ. and graduated from Rutherford High School, Rutherford, NJ. Harold graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Manheim where he played the organ and was a lay reader for many years. He was a vestryman and a Delegate to the Diocesan Convention.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the Manheim Lions Club. He cooked for Meals on Wheels in Manheim until he was 90 years of age.
Dr. Killheffer is survived by two daughters, Mary K. Helt of Neffsville and Joan K. married to Harold M. Shenk of Manheim; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
