Paul was a professional chef for 29 years, last working as an executive training chef for Bob Evans Corporation and traveling throughout the United States.
Paul was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on automobiles and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Born in Pequea, Paul was the son of Betty L. Lungren Althouse Kauffman of Lancaster and the late James Althouse.
Paul was married to Carlene A. Hart Althouse. His first wife was the late Lola Althouse.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two stepsons, Dean L. Schaeffer of Manheim and Eric M., married to Rebecca Schaeffer of Dallastown; a stepdaughter, Rhonda L. Baker of New Providence; a stepgranddaughter; a brother, Robert, married to Billie Marie Althouse of Holtwood; a half brother, Richard, married to Millie Kauffman of Mount Joy; a stepbrother, Donald, married to Linda Kauffman of Pequea; and two stepsisters, Marian, married to Raymond Hertz of New Providence and Joyce Woods of Drumore.
Paul was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Althouse; and a brother, James.

Mrs. Baker worked for Penn-Elm Apparel in Elm, for eight years.
A 35-year member of Grace Brethren Church in Manheim, Ruth was in charge of the nursery department and active in the AWANA group.
Ruth enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and making crafts.
Born in Belleville, Ruth was the daughter of the late John P. and Saloma B. Yoder Yoder.
Ruth was married 43 years on July 12 to Carl W. Baker.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Carl E. of Lititz; a daughter, Barbara A., married to Paul E. Yecker Jr. of Lititz; a granddaughter; five brothers, Emanuel M., married to Marian Yoder of Morgantown, John S., married to Grace Yoder of Belleville, Stephen C., married to Frances Yoder of Lebanon, Raymond D., married to Thelma Yoder of Yellow Jacket, Colorado, and Isaiah J., married to Shirley Yoder of Cedaredge, Colorado; and a sister, Mary B., married to John Byler of Belleville.

Dorothea R. “Dottie” Brubaker, 91, of 291 East Sun Hill Road, Manheim, Pennsylvania died Tuesday evening, January 15, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim after a brief illness.
Dottie attended the Adult Day Care Center at Landis Homes in Lititz.
Dottie worked for the former Raymark Industries in Manheim for more than 25 years, retiring in 1975.
She as a Protestant.
Dottie was a member of Ammon K. Gibble American Legion Post 419 Auxiliary in Manheim and the 25-year Club at Raymark.
Dottie enjoyed flower gardening.
Born in Lancaster, Dottie was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Warner Richardson and the stepdaughter of the late Roy Mowery.
Dottie was married 41 years on December 3 to Samuel W. Brubaker.
In addition to her husband, Dottie is survived by a son, Peter R., married to Donna Schmeck Floyd of Lewes, Delaware; a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Miriam Kimmich of Lancaster.
Dottie was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

CHRISTIANO, JOHN, 72, auto mechanic
John Christiano, 72, of 1963 Cider Press Road, Manheim, died of natural causes Tuesday evening, January 29, 2002 at his home.
John was an auto mechanic for 40 years with Lando Diagnostic, Brooklyn, New York. He also was a security truck driver for Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust in Manhattan, New York.
Prior to retirement, John worked five years in the maintenance department of Sauder Egg Company in Lititz.
John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, John was the son of the late William and Lucy Muro Christiano.
John was married 47 years in February to Anna R. Cuillo Christiano.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, William J., married to Lori Christiano of Bronxville, New York, and John P., with whom he lived; two daughters, Jayne L. Carlucci, with whom he lived, and LuAnn married to Manny Licitra of Staten Island, New York; six grandchildren, two brothers, Angelo, married to Ruth Christiano of Pinellas Park, Florida and William, married to Julie Christiano of Staten Island, New York; and three sisters, Mary Amascotto of Brooklyn, and Lucy, married to John Brocco, and Helen DeMaio, both of Long Island, New York.
John was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Nicholas; and a sister, Rose Christiano.

Larry L. Doyle, Sr., 61, of 21 West Orange Street, Lititz, formerly of Sporting Hill, died of natural causes Saturday, February 2, 2002 at his home.
Larry worked in the heat and air conditioning maintenance department of the former Warner-Lambert Company, Lititz. He retired after 30 years.
A U.S. Army veteran, Larry was a member of Lititz Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1463 and Garden Spot American Legion Post #56, Lititz.
Larry also belonged to Germania Band Club, Manheim; Elstonville Sportsman’s Association; Newmanstown Sportsman’s Club; and Lancaster’s Seventh Ward Club.
Born in Brickerville, Paul was the son of the late Charles and Hilda Vaughn Doyle.
Surviving are three sons, Larry L. Jr., married to Tracey J. Hoyt Doyle of Tucson, Ariz., and Lee Ray and Lyle Scott, both of Manheim, six grandchildren; and three brothers, Clarence R., married to Jean Kilefner Doyle, Lloyd W., married to Dolly Lehman Doyle, and Kenneth E., married to Carol Blyler Doyle of Manheim.
Larry was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Miles and Charles; and a sister, Mary Clark.

A homemaker, Helen was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Landisville, and an active member of the Lancaster General Hospital auxiliary.
Helen enjoyed gardening.
Born in Lancaster, Helen was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Boenke Erb.
Her husband, Charles M. Eby died in 1978.
Surviving are a son, Robert C., married to Lila Isbill Eby of Marysville, Tennessee; three daughters, Judith A., married to John Sumilas of Loudon, Tennessee, Linda L., married to Bruce Shipe of Lititz and Deborah L. Edna K. George, 92, formerly of 327 Ferdinand Street, Manheim, died of natural causes Tuesday evening, January 29, 2002 at Luther Acres in Lititz where she lived since 2000.
Edna was a cook for Manheim Auto Auction from 1953 to 1977.
A member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Manheim, Edna was trustee of the official board, church pianist and Sunday school teacher for primary, junior and senior classes.
Edna volunteered for Meals on Wheels since it began in Manheim in 1979 and was a member of Manheim Historical Society.
Born in Penn Township, Edna was the daughter of the late Adam E. and Mary Kling Showers.
Her husband, Chester H. George, died in 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Ruth G. Hollinger of East Petersburg and twins Betty G., married to Samuel H. Brandt of Palmyra, and Doris G., married to Paul E. Obetz of Lancaster, six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brothers, Charles K., married to Erla Showers of Lititz; and two sisters, Mary Getz and Ruth Smith, both of Lititz.

JEROME “Jerry” L. GRUMBLING, decorated Army vet
Jerome “Jerry” L. Grumbling, 56, of Rumley Road, Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, where he lived for two years, formerly of 103 West Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, January 19, 2002 at the Lewistown Hospital in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania of natural causes.
Born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Jerome was the son of the late Alvin W. and Pearl E. Sweigart Kahley.
Jerome was in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Jerome also received the Good Conduct Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Overseas Bars, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Marksman Badge Rifle Medal. Jerome retired from the military after twenty-five years of service where he worked as a personnel management specialist. He retired with a Sergeant First Class status.
After retiring from the Army in 1985, Jerome worked for Henkels and McCoy Inc., Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.
In his earlier years, Jerome worked for the Highland Tank Manufacturing Co., Manheim where he worked as a welder.
Jerome was a 1963 graduate of the Manheim Central High School.
Jerome was a member of the American Legion Post #40, Maryland, a lifetime member of the Manheim VFW Post 5956, Loyal Order of Moose #596, Elizabethtown and a member of Elstonville Sportsmen Association.
Jerome was an avid Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan, enjoyed hunting and enjoyed his hunting beagles. Jerome also enjoyed bowling.
Surviving are a companion of seven years, Susan Abbott of Lewistown, a daughter, Lisa K. married to Vince Campanalie, Orlando, Florida, three grandchildren, a stepbrother, Rodney Sweigart of Ephrata, two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” A. married to William Cunha of Manheim and Pauline “Polly” M. married to James L. Sweigart of Mastersonville and a stepsister, Sandra Martin.

Anne M. Hess, 85, formerly of Manheim R3, died Wednesday afternoon, January 2, 2002 after a long illness at Brethren Village.
A homemaker, Anne worked for the former Badorf Shoe Company in Lititz in her early years. She also helped her husband on the family farm in Rapho Township.
Anne was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren and Mastersonville Fire Company auxiliary.
Mrs. Hess volunteered in the Brethren Village infirmary.
Anne attended Linden Hall.
Born in Lititz, Anne was the daughter of the late Hiram and Nettie Beck Minnich.
Her husband, Roy G. Hess, died in 1977.
Surviving are a son, James E. Hess of Lititz; a daughter, Margaret A. “Peg”, married to Scott T. Garber of Landisville; and four grandchildren.
Anne was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Dr. Howard Minnich.

HOFFER, DEAN, owned insurance agency
Dean Hoffer, 62, of 1012 Elbow Road, Lititz, died unexpectedly of natural causes Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at Lancaster General Hospital.
A licensed life insurance agent since 1968, Dean owned Hoffer Agency Inc., Lititz.
An active Republican, Dean served on the Warwick Area Republican Committee and was its past chairman. He also served on the state Republican Committee for several years. At the time of death, Dean was treasurer for Representative Jere Strittmatter’s re-election campaign.
Dean was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Lititz, where he served as deacon and was involved in Evangelism Explosion ministry training. Dean also was the secretary of the North Atlantic Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches.
The first county resident elected to a national Future Farmers of America office, Dean was the past regional vice-president of the national FFA and past president of Lancaster County and Pennsylvania FFA and Pennsylvania Young Farmers Association.
Dean received the Rural Youth Award as outstanding future farmer and Chapter Star Farmer of the Manheim Chapter of FFA in 1957. The next year, Dean received the State Star Farmer of Pennsylvania, the highest award given by Pennsylvania FFA. Dean then was honored with the American Farmer degree at the National FFA Convention in 1959.
An avid hunter and golfer, Dean was a member of Elstonville Sportsmen’s Association.
Born in Mount Joy Township, Dean was the son of the late Arthur H. and Edith W. Snyder Hoffer.
Dean was married 41 years on August 21 to Rosene J. Kettering Hoffer.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Karen R., married to James O. Bower Jr. of Harrisburg, Sheri L., married to Mark A. Sell of Lititz; and Trina J., married to Bradley E. Floyd of Lancaster and nine grandchildren.

HOSSLER, VERNA S., 98, of Manheim
Verna S. Hossler, 98, formerly of 309 West High Street, Manheim, died Friday morning, January 18, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, following a brief illness. Verna was a resident at Pleasant View since 1992.
Verna worked for the former Noggles Garment Factory, Manheim for many years in the pressing and inspection departments. She also worked part-time at the Danner Home, Manheim.
Verna was the oldest member, by age, of Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim. She was a dedicated and faithful member. Verna taught Sunday school for many years. At one time Verna was on the missions committee and the visitation team for the Church.
Verna enjoyed quilting, crocheting, vegetable and flower gardening.
Born in Frederickburg, Lebanon County, Verna was the daughter of the late William B. and Nora Binkley Smith.
Her husband, John S. Hossler died in September 1966.
Surviving are a son, John Kenneth married to Nancy E. Nissley Hossler of Manheim, two grandchildren, Jon Eric married to Michelle Hossler and Denise Lyn Hossler and one great-grandson, Jon Phillip Hossler, and one sister, Lucille Heller of Lebanon.
Verna was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Smith, Arthur Smith and Roy Smith and one sister, Florence Reber.

Caleb A. Kreider, 85, of 1167 North Penryn Road, Manheim, died Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a long illness.
Caleb was a Church of the Brethren minister from 1955 until he retired in 1998.
For many years, Caleb owned and operated a farm in Penn Township. He also operated Kreider Manufacturing, a welding company in Manheim, for many years.
Caleb was a member of White Oak Church of the Brethren in Manheim where he was an elder-in-charge for 15 years.
An avid hunter, Caleb also enjoyed woodworking.
Born in South Annville Township in Lebanon County, Caleb as the son of the late Jonas and Susan Kettering Kreider.
Caleb was married 60 years on January 1 to Erma H. Koser Kreider.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Mary, married to Kenneth Ober of Towanda, Ruth, married to Kervin Hoffer of Bainbridge, Jean, married to Clair Mummau of Mount Joy, and Erma, married to Robert Bruckhart, and Elizabeth, married to J. Lester Heistand, both of Manheim; a son, Caleb L., married to Connie Keller Kreider of Manheim; 22 grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth, married to Norman Fahnestock of Lancaster, and Miriam Smith of Palmyra.
Caleb was preceded in death by six brothers, Ralph, Isaac, Simon, Henry, Jonas and David; and two sisters, Mary and Elizabeth Kreider.
