Dorothy E. Youtz Birch, 82, formerly of Lawn, died Monday afternoon, May 27, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim after a long illness.
Dorothy owned and operated a family farm in Lebanon County with her farm in Lebanon County with her first husband and sold produce at her family store, Peirce's Store in Lawn.
Dorothy attended Colebrook United Christian Church, Palmyra, her entire life and attended a Bible study at the church.
An avid baker, she enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening.
Born in Lebanon County, Dorothy was the daughter of the late T.H. and Nora Seiler Peirce.
Her first husband, John F. Youtz, died in 1967. Her second husband, John W. Birch, died in 1996.
Surviving are a son, Harry E., married to Diane K. Kephart Youtz of Manheim; a stepson, John S., married to Anna Mary Hoffer Youtz of Manheim; three grandchildren; and a sister, June Mull of Hummelstown.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman "Bud" and Floyd "Red" Peirce; and a sister, Mary Helen Peirce.

BOMBERGER, WALTER, L. "LARRY" JR., auction partner
Walter L. "Larry" Bomberger Jr., 69, of 60 South Main Street, Manheim died Tuesday morning, May 28, 2002 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, after a long illness.
Walter was partner and oeprator of Conestoga Auction Company in Manheim form 1962-1995.
Walter was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Watler was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim.
He was a member and former curator of Manheim Historical Society. He helped produce three books about the historic walks of Manheim and in 2000 helped edit the "Manheim Revisited" book.
In 2001, the historical society gave him the Red Rose award for his service to the community.
Walter was a member of Manheim Historic Commission, Marietta Historical Society, Heritage Center of Lancaster, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Winterthur Foundation.
Walter was a former member of the South Main Street civic organization in Manheim.
An avid traveller and skier, Walter was a member and past president of Lancaster Ski Club.
Born in Lancaster, Walter was the son of the late Walter L. and Barbara Brubaker Bomberger.
Surviving are a niece, Sallry A. Bomberger of Mount Gretna; and a nephew, Jeffrey A. married to Cindy Smithson Bomberger of Lancaster.
Walter was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew B. Bomberger.

GARNER, VIOLET "MARIE", 72, payroll clerk
Violet "Marie" Garner, 72, of 215 North Laurel Street, Manheim, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Essa Flory Hospice Center of natural causes following a lengthy illness.
A payroll clerk for 25 years at the former Raymark Industries in Manheim before retiring in 1988, she also worked after retirement as a part-time payroll clerk and administrative assistant at the former Metal-Tech Autobody in Manheim.
Marie was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Manheim since 1962.
Marie enjoyed her dogs, camping at Sandy Cove in Delaware and solving cryptogram puzzles.
Born in Lebanon, Marie was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Miriam M. Obenstein Fisher.
Marie was married to William Garner for nine years on February 5. Her first husband, Robert B. Nelson, died in 1984.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Samuel B. married to Donna L. Enck Nelson of Mount Joy, and Andrew W. married to Vicki G. Schilling Nelson of Manheim; two daughters, Linda K. married to Charles F. Rineer of New Holland and Donna M. married to Michael Gerhard of Manheim; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl F. Wolf of Manheim; a stepson, David W. married to Beth Spangler Garner of Ephrata; two stepdaughters, Jody A. Garner and Susan M. Shue, both of Ephrata; six stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Anna V. Hostetter, 83, of 6340 Main Street, East Petersburg, Pennsylvania died at home Monday night, May 27, 2002 after a long illness.
A homemaker, Anna was previously employed as a seamstress for the former Par-Mat Garment Company in Manheim.
Anna was a member of Ruhl's United Methodist Church, Manheim.
She enjoyed flower gardening and baking.
Born in Schuylkill Haven, Anna was the daughter of the late Charles Daniel and Emma Rebecca Kirst Berger.
Anna was married 62 years in October to Charles H. Hostetter.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Nancy L, married to Howard S. Miller of East Petersburg, and Mary L. Hostetter of Lancaster; a brother, Charles I., married to Eva E. Trout Berger of Manheim; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
Anna was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert M. Berger; and a sister, Helen M. Philips.

KEENER, CLARENCE, 92, Lifelong Farmer
Clarence L. Keener, 92, formerly of Manheim, died of natural causes Tuesday morning, April 30, 2002 at Brethren Village, where he lived for the past 20 years.
A lifelong farmer, Clarence worked in his father's dairy farm until age 25. After leaving his father's employment, he became a self-employed dairy farmer and grew celery and potatoes until age 57. Clarence also was employed in insurance sales.
In 1961, Clarence won the county 5-acre corn contest with 170.3 bushels an acre. In 1964, Clarence's Holstein herd topped the Red Rose Dairy Herd Improvement Association butterfat average for May.
A U.S. Information Agency agricultural movie, "Wide Open Land," was shot on his farm in 1957.
Since 1940, Clarence was a member of East Fairview Church of the Brethren, Manheim, where he was a Sunday school treasurer and served on the church board, church finance committee and Lord's Acre Project.
Clarence participated with Heifer Project International and served as its regional coordinator for 12 years.
Clarence was a member and past president of Manheim Rotary Club.
Born in Mount Joy, Clarence was the son of the late George D. and Alice Y. Stauffer Keener.
Clarence was married 14 years on April 9 to Thelma G. Haldeman Keener. His first wife, Ruth Arnold Keener, died in 1987.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Clarence A., married to Anna M. Gantz Keener of Lancaster; two daughters, Barbara A., married to C. Fred Longenecker of Manheim, and Nancy L, married to Christian W. Landis of Lancaster; seven grandchidren; and six great-grandchildren.
Clarence was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Keener Stauffer.

LOERCHER, EARL B. "BUD", 84, a Raymark Sales Rep
Earl B. "Bud" Loercher, 84, of 416 Orchard Lane, Manheim, died unexpectedly of natural causes Sunday evening, April 28, 2002 at home.
Bud worked for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim as a sales representative for more than 43 years. He was a member of Raymark Industries 25-Year Club.
Bud was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim.
An avid sportsman, Bud enjoyed baseball, basketball, bowling and golfing. He won the Raybestos golf tournament several times. Bud bowled in the Manheim Merchant League and Asbestos bowling league.
Bud also was an avid hunter, fisherman and bird-watcher.
Born in Manheim, Bud was the son of the late William C. and Fanny Randler Loercher.
Bud was married 63 years on September 9 to Ruth V. "Dolly" Seiders Loercher.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Brad E. of Liverpool and Willliam, married to Patricia Shaeffer Loercher of Manheim; five grandchildren; and a brother, John, married to Viola Loercher of Manheim.
Bud was preceded in death by three brothers, William C. Jr.; Charles H. and Ray E.; and a sister, Arlene Snyder.

LONGENECKER, PAUL G., 90, FARMER
Paul G. Longenecker, age 90, of Hearthstone Retirement Village, Mount Joy, formerly of 761 Strasburg Pike, Strasburg died Thursday evening, May 2, 2002 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness.
Paul was a West Lampeter Township dairy and tobacco farmer until his retirement in 1965. He then worked 13 years as a milk inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1978.
During his farming years, Paul actively showed Holsteins at the Pennsylvania Farm Show. He also donated heifers to Heifer Project International.
He was a former member, director and treasurer of the Pennsylvania Holstein-Friesian Association and served a a delegate to its national conventions.
He was a member for more than 50 years of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge #361, Strasburg, and the Strasburg Sportsman's Association.
Paul served on the West Lampeter Township Community Fair Board, West Lampeter Township Zoning Hearing Board and the Lancaster County Prison Board.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Born in Penn Township he was the son of the late Elam and Bessie Graybill Longenecker.
His wife, Ruth A. Shaubach Longenecker died September 25, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Alice married to William J. Peters of Kennett Square; three sons, Stanley R., married to Carol A. Stehman Longenecker of Mount Joy, Ronald E. of Strasburg, and Dale G. of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother Graybill married to Edith Longenecker of Manheim; a sister, esther Graybill of Lancaster.

A homemaker, Margaret also helped her husband manage and operate the family farm in Penn Township.
Margaret attended Lake View Bible Church, Manheim.
A 1922 graduate of Manheim High School, Margaret enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and knitting.
Born in Philadelphia, Margaret was a daughter of the late Wellington S. and Annie M. Brehm Erdman.
Margaret was married to Roy H. Miller, who died in 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, H. Joan Furlow of Lititz; two sons, Glenn E. married to Phyllis Taylor Miller of Enterpirse, Alabama and Carl E. Miller, with whom she lived; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
